This was a room full of legends coming together for the children in Africa. Quincy Jones told them to leave their egos at the door and they did most came from the award ceremony and others flew in and recorded this all in one night for charity to help Africa. This will probably be the only time this many legends hit one stage together and make such a great song. We were Blessed to have this many great singers and legends back then. Loved your reaction.

I work as a counselor an addiction in the 1980s and 90s and when this song came out and we would go to the dances at the AA clubs they had for everyone to enjoy on the weekends but good music and dancing but not in a bar. We would get up to a hundred or so people and it would be some good times. When this song would come on everybody in the room with their arms around one another and sing this song together as one! It made me cry every time because they were saving their lives as well. The gratitude in the AA and NA rooms was amazing! Beautiful Beautiful song that represents overcoming almost impossible odds, together as one😂❤
All equipment and studio time was donated, and all the artists did it completely free. They started coming in around 8PM with some coming straight from the American Music Awards and worked on this all night until about 8 or 9 the next morning. There was no autotune used with this, one because none of this talent needed autotune and two autotune didn't exist until 1998 when Cher used it in her single Believe.
