In 1984 Michael Jackson, along with a number of other leading musicians, made the song We are the World to raise money for Africa. We received a lot of aid from the world and I was one of those who directly benefitted from it. The wheat flour that was distributed to the famine victims was different to the usual cereal we bought at the market. We baked a special bread from it. The purpose of charity behind this was relief for the famine in Africa . All of the singers and extras without solos were all superstars in their own way. Most were mujsicians a nd singers. It is astounding that people don't know, even in USA, who many of these people were, like Paul Simon. They only know Michael Jackson and a few others. Lately I've been watching so many react videos to We Are The World, and I am convinced that my childhood preferences were right. For me, aside from MJ, Cyndi Lauper is the standout in this song. She gives the song so much life and meaning! You can't possibly doubt she means every single word. I find myself literally waiting for the moment she brightens the stage, every single time. That said, as time moves on I grow to love the back and forth between Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder. It's so balanced and perfect when either could have gone diva at any point. But their voices and tones stand out, yet blend beautifully. It's stunning how I still notice new things in this song after so, so many re-listens.
Kenny Rogers, Cindi Lauper and The Boss are all stan-outs to me and always have been. To listen to the majority of Cindi's popular music, you would never know she had such a great voice but if you listen to some of them that didn't quite gain the popularity that others did you know.
Everyone needs to see your reaction to this song, & what the caring & the words mean to you. I think it would make people look beyond themselves, & realize the world is a big place, & that there are people we need to help EVERYWHERE. Thank you.
I know right now there's a lot of turmoil in Africa right now, when it's comes to France and the US. I just want the people of Africa to know, please don't judge us based by our corrupt government. The majority of citizens are with you for your independence. God bless the us and God bless the people of Africa.
When they premiered this fundraiser they also had celebrities answering the phones to take donations. The world came together to help aid the children of Africa who were suffering from famine. I remember this well. These artist span different eras and genres. They were told to leave their egos at the door and they did. I believe Michael and Lionel wrote the song. It was redone to help with the tragedy in Haiti following a natural disaster.
I remember, when this song and "Do they know it's Christmas" came out (which is the UK version of USA for Africa), I was about 12 years old. And for 6 months, all I did was put my allowance towards buying singles of the songs because I wanted to help. I think I must have bought like 5 singles of each song
First, Quincy Jones is a genius. Second, back then there were problems with racism, of course. But we were making good progress. Better than generations before. We were moving forward with coming together. Again, there was much progress to be make, but we were improving. Then. The newer generations came along and trashed that progress. We’ve gone backward. The two newest generations stoked fire and told each group hated the other with a passion. Now there’s more problems than back when this song and video came out. Unfortunately, I don’t see that progress coming back for a long time. It’s going to take generations to move forward again, just to get where we were with Gen X had gotten us.
I have seen many reactions to We are the world, but yours was the only one that made me tear up. I was in high school when it came out and I miss those times, seeing what is going on in the world now.
It was because of the FAMINE that was happening in ETHIOPIA. The people there were starving and the world just watch. So Lionel Ritchie and Quincy Jones got these artist together to produce this song. And ALL the proceeds went to help the Ethiopians. It made billions
This song is a powerful message for all of us, especially during these times. Looking at these artists, we see three very important messages... firstly, there is no such thing as racial, religious or national division... secondly, music is a very powerful force and can unite humanity like nothing else... thirdly, everyone has power changing the world, so if everyone realizes that an individual has the power to change, it will turn out that you are no longer alone in these changes... that the whole world is changing. Unfortunately, we are taught obedience from childhood, so a small group in our minds has great power and this means that we do not try to change anything because this group said that we cannot do so. I would just like to point out that all revolutions, all changes of rulers and governments took place as a result of the unity of ordinary people like me and you. Let's not be afraid to change, let's not be afraid to fight for our neighbors and for peace... but let's not fight for it with ourselves and with those who tell us that our neighbors are the enemy... because they are our enemies, not ourselves.
This is a song the world of today seriously needs to hear again.

I’m with you. Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, James Ingram and Steve Perry had the best parts in this.
Kenny Rogers, Cindi Lauper and The Boss are all stan-outs to me and always have been.
To listen to the majority of Cindi's popular music, you would never know she had such a great voice but if you listen to some of them that didn't quite gain the popularity that others did you know.
Oh, and if you haven't heard her cover of Etta James's "At Last" you really should. She does a phenomenal job ❤
It is still very powerful today.
Beautiful reaction ❤❤❤❤❤
This song unites people of every colour positive vibes and emotions of love for everyone on this great planet
Thanks Ladies. These are some of the Artists I grew up listening to. Seems like just y'day. 😍
Everyone needs to see your reaction to this song, & what the caring & the words mean to you. I think it would make people look beyond themselves, & realize the world is a big place, & that there are people we need to help EVERYWHERE. Thank you.

Now watch " do they know it's Christmas" by band aid
Great reaction, girls.
I remember when they did that. All the money went to help children in Africa.
You two are some beautiful African queens and I loved both of your reactions ❤
I know right now there's a lot of turmoil in Africa right now, when it's comes to France and the US. I just want the people of Africa to know, please don't judge us based by our corrupt government. The majority of citizens are with you for your independence. God bless the us and God bless the people of Africa.
This is so spectacular. I love this song so very much. I love your reactions!
Such a once in a lifetime masterpiece. 🤙
Great reaction ladies ❤️🙏🏻🫶🏻
I still have the record album!❤😊
It is important to spread this throughout the world!🌏
You girls are beautiful. Someone needs to do a reaction of your reaction. Made me smile the whole time 🩵
Beautiful reaction
When they premiered this fundraiser they also had celebrities answering the phones to take donations. The world came together to help aid the children of Africa who were suffering from famine. I remember this well. These artist span different eras and genres. They were told to leave their egos at the door and they did. I believe Michael and Lionel wrote the song. It was redone to help with the tragedy in Haiti following a natural disaster.
Sad to watch the talent that has come and gone in that video. Wish they would make a new version.
CYNDI LAUPER❤❤😊😊 😮wow
Your tears can be felt...great reaction!
Tenkyo t girls lav old music😥😥😢😢😢
I believe that those who shed tears over this masterpiece are truly kind at heart❤
This would never happen today, all these superstars in one room putting their egos aside for someone else...
Greetings. Very nice reaction. It is a song that was made with love to help others and to see that quality of artists together was amazing.
I remember, when this song and "Do they know it's Christmas" came out (which is the UK version of USA for Africa), I was about 12 years old. And for 6 months, all I did was put my allowance towards buying singles of the songs because I wanted to help. I think I must have bought like 5 singles of each song

Thank you! Cheers!
It’s going to take generations to move forward again, just to get where we were with Gen X had gotten us.
it was to feed the children ans families in Africa.
I have seen many reactions to We are the world, but yours was the only one that made me tear up. I was in high school when it came out and I miss those times, seeing what is going on in the world now.
Seems Kenny Rogers and Michael Jackson everyone really perks up and gets super excited. I love it
This song gets me everytime 😢
