We have a bad habit of dropping the ball with backpacker disappearances, even after Milat. I think there is something up with Tobias and Katrin. His denial to return in 2007 and Katrin running away all seem to point that they know something. I think it was an argument that got out of hand combined with drugs, alcohol, and aggression made Simone get killed accidentally. Hiding the body is something someone who doesn't want to face jail would do because they're not thinking straight. Just my two cents.

Hi Adrian, thank you so much for covering this case! I sent through this suggestion so long ago, I honestly thought you didn’t think it was interesting enough to cover.
It’s such a sad case & hopefully it’s put to rest soon as it’s been a long time & her family need closure. I’m glad you used the news footage that you did, as it clearly shows the many inconsistencies in the media reporting, both back when it happened, & still to this day.
Also, in regards to Lismore’s floods - the town was hit by a record breaking 14m flood in Feb 2022, then another almost as big exactly 1 month later. The town still looks like a war zone, with many traumatised people still living in tents & caravans in their yards - so many houses are completely unliveable. The Gollan pub mentioned in your video was decimated & is unlikely to reopen, along with so many other businesses & buildings in the CBD

True, however I know that I tend to always at least wear thongs when walking around in the bush or foresty areas, since sharp rocks, small twigs and, depending on the area, those pain-in-the-ass needle leaves are everywhere. In my opinion, stepping on those bs needle leaves is worse than stepping on legos.

It is outrageous the authorities did not bother to search for three days. If they had searched sooner, there would surely have been more opportunity to gather evidence. And even if someone is just lost, finding them sooner will help their chances of survival. Australia is looking a lot less inviting as a travel destination.
Tobias clearly did lie to investigators and should have been held to account for that much earlier. But as for who did away with Simone, the evidence is very thin (due to the authorities neglecting her disappearance for days). My feeling is that, sadly, this case will never be resolved unless someone decides to talk. If they go to trial with nothing for evidence except sketchy behavior and a hair (which any attorney could easily explain), I can't imagine a jury convicting.

The aussie authorities are almost completely useless when it comes to missing persons. When my parents listed my older brother as missing, the police told them they had to wait at least 48hrs before they would start to search for him. A few days later, his body was found in his car, parked next to a rest stop. In the 48hrs the cops had told my parents to wait, he'd committed suicide. To this day, I believe there's a strong chance that he would still be alive if the cops had started searching for him straight away.

But I was drawn back by his consistency and commitment and I have felt great respect for the victims in all eps I've watched lately. Also Adrian has either got a good editor, or has learnt to cut excess words to create a nice, tight script that doesn't repeat itself or use unnecessary words. Another extremely well presented case. I absolutely love the way you narrate and provide all the facts.
The problem with the case itself is, if all they have is a strand of hair, it doesn’t prove anything. They were a couple and a hair can go on her easily. I want to think the boyfriend did it but there is absolutely no proof whatsoever. Also sometimes innocent people don’t want to say they argued as they know they are already police’s number one suspect. But then his behaviour after her disappearance was so odd. I really don’t know what to think. Simone and her family deserve justice and closure and I hope they do get it.

This is a difficult case because he was probably aware that if he said yes, they did have an argument that people would have accused him of murdering his girlfriend (so it could be a reason why he lied). Also, they were living in close proximity so it is possible that she had a hair on her from him anyway. The thing I find most suspicious is that he left so soon after she went missing. If someone I loved went missing I would be distraught and first do everything I could to find them, I would only go home when I really had to.

I feel the need to share my own experience because it may help you understand how difficult it is to judge such things. I experienced something traumatic and, when asked to come in to "talk about it," was shocked to find that they did not believe I was a victim, but was actually the suspect, and I was taken to a small room and interrogated. I was shocked, angry, desperate, and any other emotion you can imagine. Believe me, my response was aggressive. They told me that I would be sent away for a very long time, I would never work in my field again (I taught at a university and would never be able to work in that field, and many others, as a felon- imagine trying to find any job after prison), my minor child would be taken away from me and I would not see them for a very long time, my name would be all over the front page for a long time (I lived in a small city where such things are front-page news), especially during the trial, and on and on. Everything I'd ever worked for - my family, my house, my reputation, my career, my sanity - would be gone. My life would be ruined. For almost a year, I fought back and got a lawyer, but felt like I was shouting into the void. The police would not believe me. They used faulty science that they felt pointed to me, and would not listen to reason, nor would they consider that I'd never been in trouble in any way, so there was no pattern, so to speak. I went into a tailspin, feeling broken, unheard and alone, crying myself to sleep every night, and was suicidal. I was going to kill myself. In the end, their contact with me became less frequent until I stopped hearing from them. But, I was told that the statute of limitations was 17 years, so, even though I try not to think about it, I still haven't been able to breathe a sigh of relief. There are still 8 years left. Before all of this happened to me, I had many beliefs that I no longer carry: the police can spot lying (they can't), they use good up-to-date science and, when a suspect commits suicide, it's because they were guilty and couldn't face the punishment. I wish I'd never gone through what I went through, as it has completely changed me and has also tainted my view of police. Sorry for this long comment. I do hope it contains some value for you and/or others. As for whether or not Tobias is guilty, I honestly don't know, but answering aggressively could indicate guilt or innocence. I reacted the same way when I was asked if it did it (I wasn't accused of murder, but it was a very serious accusation that could potentially carry a term of 10-20 years or more). Thank you for reading this far, if you did!

What evidence do investigators really have? Her bf’s hair on her body is circumstantial. He was in close proximity with her as they were intimate. I am not 100% convinced he killed her.

Love listening to you talk. It’s heartwarming. But my heart goes out to those affected by these tragic stories.

It seems it was obviously the boyfriend but without concrete evidence he goes free. I really don’t know how people can live with such a guilt hanging over one’s head.

They can live with it because they DONT feel the guilt. So it’s easy to go on about their lives.

If it is a full blown narcissist, they can kill. No consciousness and no remorse. Look at this imperialistic system...buy and SELL..advertisements EVERYWHERE, Slavery income(poor) media FEEDING people with FEAR...so they(governments)can use and abuse the SLAVES(we common people)😊
They care for their slaves just to obey... so be quite and work your way to FREEDOM 😅😂😂
You see how cunning they are? 😉
The only way out is KNOWING and UNION
