@@blacksciencechocolate8984 I’m french and you are utterly wrong. The béchamel goes on the exterior of BOTH slices and is then baked without ore frying in butter. This is a terrible recreation of a french classic that will likely give you a heart attack. It’d certainly give my french granny one

Non, la béchamel va bel et bien uniquement à l'intérieur du croque-monsieur (la version la plus traditionnelle est même sans béchamel) et les tartines sont beurrées à l'extérieur (et aussi à l'intérieur si c'est la version sans béchamel). En plus, normalement un croque-monsieur ça se cuit dans un fer, pas à la poêle.

I'll trust the world renowned chef over the youtube nobody, sorry. It takes 2 seconds to clean the pan if you do it quickly after you used it and don't let the milk dry off and form a crust like a lazy cow.
