A easy trick I have found for doing any metallic look is to use a Krylon Metallic Brilliant Silver as a base coat on parts. Do not put primer under it it will darken the silver to much. Then shoot in this case a clear yellow on top which will give the effect of a metallic or chrome gold. Might be something to try on future kits.
recently got this kit after loosing patience waiting for a 2.0 strike freedom (havent finished it yet) but that gold marker was by far the best recommendation you can give for this kit, am gooing way overkill as i'm not certain what will show and what wont but so far it's been worth it ^^ only issue i've run in to is parts beeing either more delicate then expected or perhaps a little brittle. had the grey part for the face split in 2 and wile trying to get the shoulders/pouldrons in the right place i snapped the O part of the shoulder peg. some superglue seems to have fixed it but was unexpected.
i honestly love this kit. mybe im biased because it was my first ever gundam kit but still, i had a total blast with this kit^^ the dull gold pieces may be a disappointment because thats one extra part that you pay for but its not THAT bad in my opinion. the shiny gold parts are in very prominent places so you dont really notice it. and the rods can be fixed if you cut off about 2cm off of them and adjust the angles. worked like a charm for me and it looks AWESOME! anywho, nice review again!
So, if i get the regular mg strike freedom, Could i just spray paint the inner frame gold or should i use a gold gundam marker for painting and then spray it with a second coat?
So if I were to do the same and fill in the gold parts with a gold pen. How would I get a hold of a Gundam gold pen? Would a gold sharpie or artist's pen work just the same? I'm thinking of a Faber-Castell gold pen in case I can't get a hold of a gold Gundam gold pen.
truly the best thing about the MG Strike Freedom was the engineering on both poseability and proportions. Along with the MG F91, this was during the time when master grades are getting massive upgrades. worst thing about this was special edition bonus parts being useless in the long run and the weakness of the plastic used in the frame of the wings. the part that connects both wings to each other on my model has somewhat chipped off already.
I had that exact same problem with the wing joints that connect them together. I may be forced to super glue them into a open position. It was a real letdown with this model. Still looks good but those wing joints were a real issue.
also the plastic tubes to hold up the funnels are fine, bent them like PETG/Acrylic tubing for liquid cooling in a pc but with a candle instead of a heatgun (think the heatgun would have destroyed it in seconds as they did feel quite soft) some i did have to bend about 5-10 degree's less to compensate for the weight of the funnels
I realize that I am asking this 8 years after the fact but, by chance did you try warming the actionbase rods up in warm water before bending them and then allowing them to cool? that should add at least a little bit of strength to the bends.
oh! i want to add something about the stand. because there is so much stress on it because of the weight issues causes by the giant backpack the connector between the base and my strike freedom actually broke and i had to glue it back together. so a stand like the destiny has it really would have been the better way to go.
Depends on the look I want, Painters brand paint markers have a decent metallic gold. But often I use clear yellow on top of a metallic silver to give a metallic gold look. Its a easy trick, Works with most metallic looks, just use a high gloss clear coat on top to give it a nice extra shine. Krylon X-Metals, are clear paints ment for chromed parts and works well with this kind of work. If your using a airbrush Mr. Color clear paints is the best way to go though.
I got this kit prebuilt for free, i watched the guy improperly build the entire thing years ago so now i'm in for a world of corrections and paint stripping
i'm not a pro or anything, just some teenager wanting to get my hands on a MG strike freedom. So i guess a normal MG strike freedom will be enough? Or should i get the full burst one?
Well thanks for the tip Any Ideas where I can get one of those Lacus Clyne mega house 12 Inch dol?l I am looking at Amazon selling It for $146.01 It use to be $111 I think
I have my MG strike freedom normal mode, been thinking of getting the FBM at first, but at the end of the day, I changed my mind on staying with the normal sf.... I realized that those effect parts are not that necessary... you can just pose those dragoons to the ends of sf's wings, just stick them in to make the wings look more broader and give it an impression as if those dragoons are gonna fly off the wings.... if you want a reference of the pose, just respond to my comment....
Hi thx for ur review i ill get this kit for sure. i have big question here very need help from u. There are extra wing part kit out there The kitCalled "Robot Damashii (Side MS) Strike Freedom" will it capable with this full burst mode? it look very very cool when they put with strike freedom!! anyone who have this kit should check it out. There are many seller on ebay and amazon but they didn't describe enough on their product. some of them do but it in Japanese. Can you please check it for me
i am disassembling my strike freedom to repaint it gold and working on a clear plastic wings of light and bought the regular display stand and custom parts for my dragoon. as few touch up and my standard mg will be better than the full burst yay~
hey robert!!!can you help me!!!im planning to buy the strike freedom!!!! but im a little bit short on my budget!!!can u tell me the diff. between the full burst mode and the ordinary strike f gundam!!!wish you could help decide!!!??
I have the extra finish version and to be honest the gold is nice, but just like this one, Bandai didn't plate alot of parts. I ended up spraying this entire inner frame that was visible with Tamiya gold spray. Oh, if you do that you need to mask off all the posts and inside the holes for the moving parts. I've broken several parts and have been forced to send for replacements. It does look cool if you can get the poses right.
"Justice and faith! *Ignorance and escapism!* They never learn! They never listen! We have reached the end of that path! There is no way to prevent it now! Mankind vanquished, at last! Just as they deserve!" ~Rau Le Creuset, from Gundam Seed
i would buy the regular one but im not sure if I can get the gold too really shine like that.. and maybe I could take a crack at making the dragoon display work, i heard really stupid ideas lyk melting it, and interesting ones like freezing it so idk lol
when i buy this kit im gonna get the regular ver. because all i gotta do is use a coat of gold spray paint and then a top coat of gold chrome. the dragoon thing is pointless so it can suck it.
Great review altogether but you missed the thrusters on thigs. No big deal really though. I went for normal MG and I'm quite content with it. It has its issues, and also I can overcome most of FBM gimmicks with the help of HI-V's poles and white action base :]. In any case, you can always contact me to share some thoughts on this model and some others.
y dont u restrait them and just let the weight handle the effect parts?? also i just bought this model and its shippin in this weds and i cant wait to get it!!!!!!!
when i buy this kit im gonna get the regular ver. because all i gotta do is use a coat of gold spray paint and then a top coat of gold chrome. the dragoon thing is pointless so it can suck it. oh yeah i personally think that the gundam f91 and strike freedom are the best mg's of 2006
This definitely isn't a kit for everyone. It really depends on your own personal preferences. I got the Full Burst along with the Extreme Blast, and while the puke gold was a disappointment, it wasn't something you couldn't remedy yourself. As for the extra gimmicks such as the AB and effect parts, I think they were nice additions. I liked the color of the AB and I had no problems with the plastic tubes. They weren't perfect, but they were manageable. But again, this is my own opinion.
just get the regular one and a gold gundam marker (gm04) OR gold spray paint from a local store like lowes or home depot. If you REALLY want the stand, and effect parts for the dragoons and the clear sticks to mount them... then FBM. I got FBM and am still painting the regular gold parts because I like the extra stand and effect parts.
Allow me to answer myself. MS stands for Mobile Suit, the proper name for the mecha found in the Gundam metaseries. All Gundam are MS, but not all MS are Gundams. But you already know that, don't you Kira-kun?
Non-grades are very cheap and don't have very much detail they usually come in 1/100 scale. High Grades are a little bit better but very similar to non-grades. Real Grades are usually 1/144 scale but highly details and alot of decals. Master Grades are Bandai's most popular models. they are always 1/100 scales with great details and decals. they use higher quality plastics. Perfect grades are always 1/60 scale however they are usually greater in price. amazing details and decals. I highly recommend Master Grades for their great details and not too harsh on a budget.
Ya totally agree that the effect parts extensions suck big time. I'd rather they gave us a normal opaque plastic that can hold the weight, than clear ones than has no resilience at all. Frankly, they remind me of leaves on the side of a flower. Haha
@aeminence They really aren't. Gunpla, compared to the rest of plamo, is definitely one of the cheaper varieties. Try looking at what Kotobukiya charge for their kits, and you'll see what I mean.
Some of my friend have the same problem about the Dragoon's effect but some are not. But everyone have the same problem with the gold, why Bandai just don't make it ALL gold instead of separate some parts to do a gold appearance, even it may be higher price I think it may be worth more than this. Well.... Maybe I just have to try it myself. That's mean I still gotta get this one. And if you have a chance, please make a review for Destiny Gundam Extreme Blast mode too, rrobbert184.
@09sparda90 yea i was just thinking that, we dont care if we cant bend them how we wanna if it means thatll they'll bend and KEEP ON bending till it scraps the floor
i have the original strikefreedom, i dont find the gold that bad though, maybe my expectation isnt that high. or maybe because there is no other gold to compare to, that made the gold in the normal one not so bad
i think it released it too early, many new master grade features were on destiny and infinite justice, which leaves the strike freedom look outdated compared to those 2. also, i recommend buying just the normal version, its just not worth it to buy this, unless they included the wing's of light we saw in the end of gundam seed destiny. at least when u buy the normal version, u can paint the gold part with dat gold marker and would look flush.
If this had had Wings of Light instead of those DRAGOON effect parts this might had been worth considering to me if I liked Strike Freedom. But I don't so I have no reason to get this.
I bought the regular one and painted the inner frame gold...it looks amazing xD
You're always doing a great job with your reviews, thanks
now I wish Bandai would just release an MG Legend so I can finally complete my SEED final four collection!!
A easy trick I have found for doing any metallic look is to use a Krylon Metallic Brilliant Silver as a base coat on parts. Do not put primer under it it will darken the silver to much. Hey Rob, think you'll review the Destiny any time soon?
Simple: Wings of the Skies effects, matching with the Destiny's Wings of Light. It's been 18 years, and they still won't give that to us.
i honestly love this kit. mybe im biased because it was my first ever gundam kit but still, i had a total blast with this kit^^
the dull gold pieces may be a disappointment because thats one extra part that you pay for but its not THAT bad in my opinion. the shiny gold parts are in very prominent places so you dont really notice it.
and the rods can be fixed if you cut off about 2cm off of them and adjust the angles. worked like a charm for me and it looks AWESOME!
anywho, nice review again!
how do you paint the wings gold? im using a gundam gold marker but I couldn't reach the narrow parts. Thanks.
for mine, the bottom of the feet pop of a lot and the rail guns also pop off if i mess with them too much and i have no trouble with the Dragoons
what if you tie fishing lines to the dragoons and tie the line to the stand? wouldnt that pull it back up?
So, if i get the regular mg strike freedom, Could i just spray paint the inner frame gold or should i use a gold gundam marker for painting and then spray it with a second coat?
So if I were to do the same and fill in the gold parts with a gold pen. How would I get a hold of a Gundam gold pen? Would a gold sharpie or artist's pen work just the same? I'm thinking of a Faber-Castell gold pen in case I can't get a hold of a gold Gundam gold pen.
i had alot of those i loved putting them together!
Massive rainbow colored beam effect part for the torso cannon. I had no idea it was a weapon until I had gone over Seed Destiny a second time.
truly the best thing about the MG Strike Freedom was the engineering on both poseability and proportions. Along with the MG F91, this was during the time when master grades are getting massive upgrades.

does the normal strike freedom (the one without full burst) have the same problem with the gold joints or do those look better?
dear robert. so can you tell me which is a more worth buy? SFFB of destiny EB?
I realize that I am asking this 8 years after the fact but, by chance did you try warming the actionbase rods up in warm water before bending them and then allowing them to cool? that should add at least a little bit of strength to the bends.
why does the website link end up bringing me back to youtube??
I want to buy my first gundam kit. I don't know whether to buy this or the Shin Musha MKII, any sugestions?
@RonathonCharlie Plenty of stores to purchase from online!
oh! i want to add something about the stand.
because there is so much stress on it because of the weight issues causes by the giant backpack the connector between the base and my strike freedom actually broke and i had to glue it back together.
so a stand like the destiny has it really would have been the better way to go.
does anyone know how tall the strike freedom is with the stand? Thanks!
I'm planning to buy gundams but which one shall I buy? The Destiny extreme burst or this??

My only disappointment is that the left hand on my strike freedom could not hold the rifle idk if its the peg on the hand or what
So rrobbert184 I got ask, how does Destiny's Inner Frame stack up to Strike Freedom's?
did u trying heating then bending the clear effect parts because some other reviewers have had no problems with it
Hey Robert, you have any idea in which the MG wings of light 1/100 which was made for the normal strike freedom is compatible with the FBM one?
couldn't you reduce the length of those rods and only bend them slightly? wouldn't that solve their issues?
for the gold do you use a marker or spray paint?
i'm not a pro or anything, just some teenager wanting to get my hands on a MG strike freedom. So i guess a normal MG strike freedom will be enough? Or should i get the full burst one?
is the strike freedom lightning version almost the same as the PG strike freedom?
how do you bend the clear rods for the dragoons?
Well thanks for the tip Any Ideas where I can get one of those Lacus Clyne mega house 12 Inch dol?l I am looking at Amazon selling It for $146.01 It use to be $111 I think

Hi thx for ur review i ill get this kit for sure. i have big question here very need help from u. hey robert can you review the destiny gundam ebm for me??
don't know what happened I bended the clear parts as the manual says and don't have the same weight issues
Which parts do you use to connect the gundam to the action base?
hey robert!!!can you help me!!!im planning to buy the strike freedom!!!!
but im a little bit short on my budget!!!can u tell me the diff. between the full burst mode and the ordinary strike f gundam!!!wish you could help decide!!!??
MG SF or freedom? Which ones wings are less fragile?
Does anyone know what kind of markets he used? I just built my own strike freedom( really want that awesome gold!)
I have the extra finish version and to be honest the gold is nice, but just like this one, Bandai didn't plate alot of parts. @ShinigamixXXx Wait, in Texas?
the energy wings...

so happy i went w/ the regular version...now i just need gold paint D;
one more question MS isn't master grade right? what does it stand for
My only gripe with the MG Strike Freedom was the lack of an attachment slot in the middle of the "Darth Maul" mode beam sabers.
i would buy the regular one but im not sure if I can get the gold too really shine like that.. and maybe I could take a crack at making the dragoon display work, i heard really stupid ideas lyk melting it, and interesting ones like freezing it so idk lol
this kit is very nice... i didn't have any problem with the dragoons deployed... those stick stand pretty well... the dragoons are not facing down...
has he finish the PG of this gundam ?
So which one do you reconmend? Strike freedom or Hi-Nu?
Will you get the Robot Damashii?
when i buy this kit im gonna get the regular ver. because all i gotta do is use a coat of gold spray paint and then a top coat of gold chrome. the dragoon thing is pointless so it can suck it.

i panel lined the blue attachment/dragoons with gold and it turned out great
how to make it better: Throw in a 1/100 meteor unit for the sf or ij? :D
y dont u restrait them and just let the weight handle the effect parts?? also i just bought this model and its shippin in this weds and i cant wait to get it!!!!!!!
there is no MG legend yet right?
when i buy this kit im gonna get the regular ver. because all i gotta do is use a coat of gold spray paint and then a top coat of gold chrome. the dragoon thing is pointless so it can suck it. oh yeah i personally think that the gundam f91 and strike freedom are the best mg's of 2006
Shoul I just get the REGULAR version of the MG or the FULL BURST MODE?
try covering the effect clear road with thin layer of super glue
to make it a little bit more harder
only my suggestion, I never tried it before :p
Strike Freedom's Wing's of Light woulda been cool to add
This definitely isn't a kit for everyone. It really depends on your own personal preferences. PG when?
In all of my gundams Strike Freedom and Zero Wing Custom are my favourites
@PetForestWalker both regular and full burst do
@GundamLegacyExtreme yeah like the robot damashi strike freedom comes with NICE wings
just get the regular one and a gold gundam marker (gm04) OR gold spray paint from a local store like lowes or home depot. you know, instead of flimsy plastic stands for the dragoons, couldn't have bandai provided solid, plastic stands instead
don't use the connection piece provided by the kit. just use 9mm piece from a regular action base, and it will hold
the dragoons came nice with me.. it bended nicely.
Try looking at what Kotobukiya charge for their kits, and you'll see what I mean.
do you have to cook those rods to bend them cause i was just wondering how
Is the stand for the Gunpla and for the Dragoons included?(I don't have time to watch your previous vid of this gundam
I wish there was a place to buy stuff like this in America... Or rather at Texas...
@Mastodon704 this is not a toy its a model kit =.="
i got all the effect parts to work quiet nicely. but maybe i was just lucky
@francpala that depends francpala, i wuld try this model cuz itll b the 1st 1 i build as well :D
Some of my friend have the same problem about the Dragoon's effect but some are not. But everyone have the same problem with the gold, why Bandai just don't make it ALL gold instead of separate some parts to do a gold appearance, even it may be higher price I think it may be worth more than this.

@09sparda90 yea i was just thinking that, we dont care if we cant bend them how we wanna if it means thatll they'll bend and KEEP ON bending till it scraps the floor
ok that validates... im just gonna go for the cheaper one
i have the original strikefreedom, i dont find the gold that bad though, maybe my expectation isnt that high. or maybe because there is no other gold to compare to, that made the gold in the normal one not so bad

buy the regular strike freedom, me i just buy the regular one coz fbm or not, i need to repaint it's gold inner frame,
@MargaretsLight thats only the Freedom Gundam
I wish bandai release a RG strike freedom and destiny with gold and silver parts and with effect parts the really work
