Oh man I remember my grandma gifting this for me after I passed my exams over a decade ago. I still love this kit despite certain flaws here and there so it’s always nostalgic to me plus it’s fun to pose him with the dragoons launched.
There will always be a reason to buy the original MG when the MG-EX is over 100 euros
Indeed.
Wait only 100 euros? The unicorn was 250 or something
@@zgmfx-09a It was just for the sake of the statement. You can fully expect the MG-EX strike to also be at least 200 euro's
*cough* xunxin model *cough*
Omg finally, you always flaunt those strike freedom/the box on the background when doing gundam news...
It's interesting how the verdict for this kit seems to have changed after the MGEX actually launched and it was revealed that it was also only partially coated and didn't come with dragoon stands. I think both are pretty equally satisfactory kits for their priceranges, I guess it mostly depends on which aesthetic you like more.
This was my 1st mg about 3 years ago and the attraction for this design is what kept me going. Great idea for the rods. It can take up even more room now!
I built this as my first MG when I was stationed at Ft Stewart, first Christmas away from home.
HATED the backpack so much
Why?
@@androyus the two halves of the wings would constantly fall off each other. I'm a much better builder now than I was over 10 years ago, but I don't think I can save it
@@konos-p8842 How did it happen? Did you miss some steps in the instruction? Mine & Kakarot's work just fine.
Yeah the same thing happened to mine, I wonder what went wrong with em. But I don't care too much cause I don't really like the look of the wings anyway
I had this thing when it came out eons ago and loved it. It's wings do not hold up even after painting the inner parts gold. Still looks nice though. Might go back and add detail/damage and top coat it one day. The Extreme one may be a little out of my price range. As long as it's not over $200 but I have a feeling it's going to rub up against that price on the wrong end.
5:18 I just love the combination of Yoohoo scared face and that ost from DeSu used here, really show how horrible the situation is 🤣
I know what you mean about the inner frame. But I had to use metallic gold tamiya and gloss coat just to make it shiny like the box art...
For the rods, I use a little fire to make the rods bend...
This was one of my earlier kits, found it discounted because the box was damaged. Rest of the kit was perfectly fine lol it looks pretty good up on the shelf with Build Strike Full Package, Nu Gundam and RX-78-2
I adore the seed destiny MGs like this and the extreme blast mode destiny, which were clearly meant to be a pair. The proportions are perfect and that old MG style manual is great
I’m very interesting of the new MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam!! 😊
I've wanted this monster babe since its first release. I HAVE to buy it before I get the Extreme version.
Good old times. The times when Bandai release special versions like Unicorn+hangar, Zeta HD color, etc. As regular release not P-Bandai.
They're still releasing non P-Bandai of special edition, but the last time they did that was last year. HGUC Xi Gundam VS Penelope: funnel missile effect part
I don't have the MG, but i have the NG 1/100. Boy oh boy, it's still solid until this day (but i broke the antenna)
Glue...
My NG 1/100 Chaos Gundam is also still solid even after 10+ years.
@@androyus i thougt that was 2017. been eyeing one since i got the HG.
I finished building a HG ms-07 b-3 gouf custom but the arm joints keep falling off any ideas on how to tightly the arm joints? Awesome videos keep up the good work
I have the non plated version and the ankles on mine are tight like a tiger. I really love this kit. The rub transfers make up for the ugly gold to me
Here I thought at first that "Kira, Sono Kokoro no Mama Ni" is just playing on my mind while I'm watching this video, but after pausing the video several times... LOL
I screwed up with the wings. When I was opening them the mechanism pieces just broke so easily. Had to superglue them in place but I hate that it has to look like that. Been thinking of getting a new one, the one that isn’t full burst and maybe see if there’s some better mechanisms for the wings.
I hope Strike Freedom comes out in version 2.0 :)
...yeah, this is pretty much why I just built the regular MG Strike Freedom (in addition to not exactly being a fan of it anyway - I just wanted the main 3 Gundams on my shelf). got high hopes for the upcoming MGEX tho!
I have the regular version with only the inner frame built, once I'm done with my lower grade projects I'll resume my work on it.
Personally can't wait for the next What If vid. Would love to see a What If where Zeon never became evil and actually was the good guy in Gundam. How would that work? Maybe the Republic of Zeon never fell, maybe the Zabis weren't evil (most of them, anyway) and maybe the reason people went to space in the first place was not because of overpopulation (which in this what if would be the Feddy Propaganda and not truth) but because they hoped that by going to space they could avoid the totalitarian state they were living under on Earth.
Basically a "What if Zeon was Good and the Feddies Were Bad" instead of the normal timeline where everyone is either bad or just somewhat neutral or darker with no one being a truly Good Guy.
And no, I' not asking for that just because I love the Zeon suits and hate the cartoonishly evil things they did (though that is a part of it).
Seeing White Base crew decide to swap sides after they realize how terrible the Feddies are would be interesting, especially for a Young and Somewhat Naive Bright Noah. And Amuro could finally be buddy-buddy with Char and Lalah in a timeline where the Zabis never killed Char's family and instead tried to salvage a Feddie Attempted Coup as best as they could.
It just wouldn't work. Zeon was purposely designed to be the bad guy, their leaders, their crimes, even the asthetics, they're the baddies. The Dinosaur Empire from Getter Robo has more redeeming qualities than the principality of Zeon.
@@arx3516 Getter Robo fan?
@@arx3516 In normal Canon? Certainly wouldn't work. But What Ifs don't need to follow the normal canon. The easy part would be to swap morality, or make one side the clear baddies and the other side the clear goodies, but the hard part would be to make a story out of it that would be entertaining.
What Ifs are not based in the main canon, and are an exercise in fan fiction that does not need to ground itself in the original vision of the original creator, and can, at times, be adopted BY that creator and used for their own ends.
Pretty sure Dragon Ball Super's Multiversal Tournaments were based ff of the Fan Comic, so that's a point for fans being able to change things later down the line.
Yeah I would recommend fixing the gold with a metallic gold Gundam marker or if you'd rather be able to adjust how gold it is use a silver and a orange Gundam marker metallic pour type, mixing the two different types of ink will allow you to adjust the color values to get the type of gold you wish to use.
stunned. thank you.
going to have to paint the frame
The regular version is still on my wishlist!
I know MGEX is coming, but that’ll cost an arm and a leg 🤣
Nah, you don't understand bandai strategy. The more popular the suit is, the less effort bandai put into. There're many examples like SDCS Freedom, you get beam toothpick, poor color separation while the Sisquiede get a proper clear beams. And not to forget the HGCE Destiny includes a WOL in the box. Destiny gundam always gets a better treatment than Strike Freedom, and we all know why....
No matter how good or bad the kit is, the popular suits always sell like a hot cake.
Oh you have no idea
why does destinty gets better treatment?
wdym the HG SF Revive is a great kit, what's wrong with it
@@MacHineJXD A lot of people don't like Shin...
@@MacHineJXD MG Destiny's crotch mechanism is shit though.
yooo gup BGM
In my school vr game goalius left eye scar story was where it was created after the perfect strike freedom full burst gundam fired everything it got and missed goalius who at the time was a member of the murder bots family corporation
I still think that the Kunio Okawara Exhibition Strike Freedom Master Grade is the best version of the MG to date.
It remains one of the best Master Grades I've ever put together.
Edit: the joint of the backpack to extend the dragoons is made of plastic and if not put in the right way will break like mine did the first time I tried but for at least when I got them there are metal replacement parts for them on eBay for 15 bucks and fix's the problem for good
I'm glad I finally got this kit and the destiny to go with as I've wanted them since they came out but I'm until bluefin brands came around they where so pricy and I like more kits for the same price but I used my stimulus money and got them even though something told me not to get the strike but I did it anyways. They where both fun builds especially while rewatching destiny and I have them proudly displayed in my room fighting but I still kinda regret the strike purchase after the announcement bandai made but for it but for a kit as old as it is I still think it holds up really well
just went to add some touches to my SF and i noticed the bottom of my Calidus muzzle is silver... so its a yellow or orange over silver plating. now i know why i couldn't fing a gold i liked.
I remember the old Wing Zero and the new Wing Zero ver ka using that same beam saber style, I don't know if the TV wing or the Proto Zero has them or not
Yes we might need to buy this as we dont want to go bankrupt
Full plated inner frame is a brittle inner frame. So bandai’s decision to mix both plated and non plated gold for the inner frame is understandable
it can be done right. Daban has a chinese knockoff plastic model version of the Metal Build Strike Freedom, it has a fully plated inner frame and it's very solid.
Yes. Looks great! Buy a gold gundam marker at the same time.
Is the non full burst pretty much the same minus the plating and base?
As i already wrote in another video is, how the hell where you able to get in hand this kit that i was looking for since November 2021 and still out of stock. When did you ordered yours can you tell me please?
I hear that Girls und Panzer music, Kakarot... and I salute you for it
The MG tallgeese EW comes with curved blades too
I have a Full Burst at home. I'll check if there is anything different about it. I'll also check if i got it fron HLJ or US ship/bluefin
#Kakarot197 just checked , it's a bluefin release and it's exactly the same. if you want pics, i can send them to an email on post on facebook.
But that beautiful lettering on the Strike Freedom name in the marking seals... I have a feeling it is a Lacus original design. She considers Kira on that high of a pedestal after all since he's her boyfriend by personal choice.
The mgex is 250 cdn where im from…so yes theres a reason to buy this kit
Hmm... They should re-release the boost effects hopefully with the Wings of the Sky and beams, cross-compatible with both the original and the EX.
Is that GBM playing on the background?
I got myself a 1/100 ng strike freedom and destiny for my birthday wich it is in april 16
both you and mecha putting up good points for buying this instead.
"Will there still be a reason to buy this th-" yes
Yes there will
I just realized...where you get the Gundam Breaker Mobile OST?
I have the kit... and by have, I mean I still have it unbuilt. May see myself either selling or trade it.
I hope the next MG EX is a GM or a Ball.
I'd rather wait on the MG Extreme version, I hope they will have the Wings of Light effects too, P-Bandai or not.
How did you attach the dragoons to the backpack? Mine are sagging a lot and it would probably help having them in the back.
Extending the wingtips creates a hole that's perfect for the rods and the ones on the back are jammed between the wings and their arms.
@@kakarot197 thanks, I’ll have to try that out. Because I’m using 3rd part wings of sky effect parts, it might not work, but it’s worth a shot.
In case you think it gets better with the MG Phenex - It doesn't. Despite that kit being entirely gold plated (meaning no injection mold gold), so much of it isn't undergated that the whole thing is chock full of white spots. That's not to mention the overambitious (meaning poor) mechanics, bad fits/tolerances and useless lock features (for the spine and back skirt).
You can fix the bare plastic spots and it'll look fine (though it's missing its shield tails), but Bandai doesn't have the best luck with gold plated kits (or lack thereof).
100%, the ankles are a problem with this kit. I even bought the non-full burst version to see if it was any better and it doesn’t hold itself up. Speaking of the non-full burst version, I don’t have the runners for my full burst, but the original has the exact same V-Fin gating as yours
Depending on the price of the Extreme. Yeah probably still worth.
Even though its a new runner- no its not, this is the strike freedom * ba dum tss *
Strike Freedom is a very well designed suit, but has issues esp. with the RG.
Hopefully the MG EX is going to address this.
Yeah except it’s gonna cost a fortune.
What's the issue on rg btw?
@@vorlun2594 The parts are flimsy as hell. Broke the wait rail gun connector on the first one. Then broke the hand with the second one.
Luckily I got the spare hand from the first one. But really the parts are quite delicate.
@@zacharyradford5552 Sadly yeah. Might get it while waiting for MG Seravee + Seraphim. ;)
Can someone tell me how hobby link Japan works? I have seen some of the mg and hg I want but I am not sure if it works for American or if it will ship to me. Any help would be helpful, thank you.
They ship internationally. You can choose the shipping method (faster but more pricey, or the opposite).
@@Ictiuso thank you so very much.
Question of the Week
What are some of the most powerful non Gundam MS in both the UC and the AUs???
in UC: the Aqua GM
in all of the AUs: the Leo
In Gundam 00 Graham Aker's Susanowo definitely. It went up against the 00 and did some serious damage to it.
Serpent from Gundam Wing Endless Waltz.
Is this a limited run version of the MG?
It was a standard release back then. Just more expensive than the regular one for obvious reasons.
I would say its 99.9% for safety nubs on the V fin.
Kinda funny how this kit, like the Strike Freedom itself (for me at least) is a mixed bag.
I love the design, but I despise it's pilot and how OP it is.
A design that beautiful deserves to be in a better anime than SEED Destiny.
You are reviewing a kit that was designed in 2006, so the softwares and hardwares were not as good as now. Uncertainties about the markets, limited resources for productions. The design experience may not be enough. I think that it is amazing how well it is designed back in the days.
It honestly baffles me that in comparison to the destiny extreme blast mode you get a fraction of the effect parts, you don't even get wings when the HG did, although it might be for the better as the mg gundam seed destiny designers wanted to make their large flat beam effects as flat as possible, look at any of the beam sheilds or the destiny's wings, it may not have been wholly accurate but I'd be perfectly willing to give up flimsy edges for more solid effect parts Like those on the HG seed and HGCE kits
I rather get this because it gonna be a lot cheaper then the MGEX version. I would definitely get the MGEX version if it was a little bit cheaper.
Well, the waist railguns entending mechanism isn't MG exclusive, RG also has that to say the least, not to mention PG :)
The MG, RG, and PG Strike Freedom are the unholy trinity of SF kits because of the manuals, and how they describe how the SF works.
I think he was talking about the mechanism for THAT TIME, because back then when this kit released, there are no RG and PG
@@yanjirujan193 yeah maybe but now is not that time tho
12:00
Why do I hear *Girls und Panzer* theme there, Kakarot? 🤔
Watching this i thing hgce strike freedom is enough for me. Painting might be hell but i can make it for display. Or may be a 3rd party metal build from aliexpress might be better
That poster is hilarious when you realize it makes no sense. Look closely at who is featured. Then look at which mobile suits are featured. Think about the timeline.
The head of the mg is definitely my most favorite version compared to any other figure of the sf
I have the original one, its one of first MG I've built back to 2012 (very poorly btw, with a bad nipper which left some bad nubs and stress marks). Definitely, this one don't worth the money.
Love your review broh, the first vid youtube recommend me is shit, been looking for this because imo mgex strike freedom proportion is too edgy overkill and not allign with the freedom 2.0 that i have, will do buy this one soon
One of those times I simply cannot see any difference between colors, so the plated and unplated parts look the same to me.
Hahaha you win!
Yea... bandai and kotobukiya tend to be cheapstakes on the coated parts. I still get mad when I see my Dukemon amplified and all the gold details missing. Now that I got the metalic gold marker I can do something about future build though.
I own this kit, and it has been a whirlwind of disappointment for me - much of which stems from the fact that I opted for it over the standard version. I mean, if you're gonna build a Strike Freedom, you gotta go with the one with the plated gold parts, right? Only to then discover that my assumption that ALL the visible inner frame would be gold-plated was faulty. So, to finish the look, I went out and bought myself a can of gold spray paint... only to then discover once I'd finished applying it that I vastly preferred the look of the parts I painted myself over the plated ones. So, my main reason for getting this more expensive kit turned out to be completely pointless. I then tried to take solace in the fact that, at least it came with some decent effect parts... only for Bandai to then drop the announcement of the MGEX version just a few weeks after I'd started the build.
My salt levels were quite palpable.
still can only get the dragoon thrust display here. even if you can buy the rods separately.
Mustard Freedom.
man,all this mustard yellow/gold just makes this kit look as cheap as a mustard bottle
Yes there's a Reason, I don't have one
oh god... that ugly puke gold plastic is a major deal breaker for me, or it would've been if I was looking to buy one, lucky for me I was able to get a "pre-owned" metal build strike freedom a couple years back for half the price, it was missing the box but that was fine. though personally I prefer the proportions of this one over the metal build's.
I prefer destiny extreme blast over this one.
This kit doesn't aged very well especially the "gold" inner frame.
Good Lord does the Strike Freedom have a dark reputation hidden underneath all of its popularity
Questionable MS Design, retconning, and extreme bias from Bandai, both in terms of the gunpla, and the anime.
Even the Unicorn, Bandai's number 1 gunpla cash cow, was not given this much special treatment and favoritism.
There will always be a place for the regular MG Strike Freedom because the MGEX will no doubt cost way more than the MGEX Unicorn.
and it looks different. I just watched kk's gm 79 reviews in 1/100 and 1.0 and they both still have appeal even vs 2.0
4:35 and a bunch of information that reveals dark secrets of the Strike Freedom.
Some examples are as follows
- The Voiture Lumiere system of both the SF and Destiny is a direct retcon from the Stargazer with a half assed explanation as to how it works.
- The Wings of light can't function at full power when the dragoons are attached
- Only Kira Yamato is capable of piloting this God mode Mary sue Gundam properly
- The inner frame has a special set of phase shift armor that gives it the golden color
The instructions of the PG and RG Strike Freedom also have some dark secrets
First view apparently
Like the destiny. It sucks. Regards from Malaysian utuber
Hurts to hear you call it the flagship Gundam of GSD but as much as it hurts you are unfortunately right.
6:41 Some days I can't help but wonder about how spoiled we might sound to modling fans of other genres.
"Oh no, the color separation isn't perfect!" **Stares at entirely flat grey tank/plane/warhammer model kit**
Really though, for all the shit we give Bandai for being money grubbing bastards... At least we can be thankful that they're _productive_ money grubbing bastards.
Still miney grubbing bastards though.
This boxart radiates sexual energy. Get it cuz Kira gets laid on screen haha
fr tho, I'm personally not too fond of the MGEX's overall aesthetic. It's eye candy for sure, but not my cup of tea
Kaka
Y’know…. I still want an alternate universe where Stella survive and become Shinn’s romance target instead of Lunamaria. Luna is ok…. But I really feel that Stella fits better with Shinn. Shinn shows some clear growth when he’s with Stella rather than with everyone else
This kit typifies exactly what worries me about the Gundam Metaverse--They get so close to absolute perfection but then skimp on the quality control leaving little details that bring down the whole thing worse than if they had just not bothered. If you're going to go the extra kilometer, don't stop at 999 meters.
Not UC, pass.
