Id love a MGEX of the Lupus Rex focused on articulation and posability. A very strudy yet flexible build where you can pose the figure in very dynamic and unique poses that cannot be archived in most MGs. I believe the design on the Lupus Rex, that looks kinda animalistic and wild would pair perfectly with this premise.
@@aggelosaggelos5696 Still not MGEX, anf Lupus Rex has a very different, much more "agile" look. Im not seeing the regular Barbatos being the most flexible and possable Gundam. Of course, its my take on it.
@@aggelosaggelos5696 I wonder if it's a popularity related issue. Everyone in the west seems to want more of barbatos, more mg ibo kits and such, but I have a feeling that this might not be the case in Japan. Maybe they have their own numbers and such and don't find it a priority to focus on more barbatos kits, probably since in these last few years they've been putting out more 00 kits they've found people more interested in those as well. Who knows really what they're doing, but what do you guys think, could that be a reason? I know they milk the unicorn and this strike freedom like they're friesian cows since both of those are well loved there in Japan.
I think one of the best things about the kit is the option between fixed and posable hands 😅 that should really be staple of master grades and all higher grades like mgex and pg from now on
@@ranamores4919 I love the posable hands! I get that a lot of people prefer fixed pose hands for stability, but my Sazabi and Hi-Nu are more alive than all my other kits purely due to the hands.
Judging from the current pattern, it feels like MGEXs are reserved for the final suit of each MC. I would love to see the next one being 00 Qant, or even better, the ELS Qant, because we never get a kit of it. Extreme point can probably be its effect parts.
Funnily enough one of the complaints raised resolves an issue I had - I was really upset with the shoulder mold line parts, because I figured I wouldn't want to fix and paint them due to color consistency concerns... but hearing that the inner frame molded gold is also visible at the end solve the problem - now I can paint all those parts the same color, it should look fine! :D
I built a PG strike freedom over the holidays. It looks great, but I can't wait to get my MGEX. The gold in the video looked so good, and the level of detail blew me away. I really love to see the armor shifting when I bend joints after building a part, so it should be really satisfying to play around with it
The MGEX Strike Freedom absolutely blows away the PG Strike Freedom. The spring loaded wings and the cheap stickers of the PG pale in comparison to the layered MGEX. The wings of the MGEX and some of the connective joins on the MGEX seem to be more prone to breaking though. I just wish they came with a stand for the Dragoons or the Wings of Light
I have the same opinion with regards to including this kit in the MGEX line just because of the different shades of gold. They should have included a proper base and accessories for the dragoons and effect parts for the wings of light and full burst mode to justify it being a MGEX kit.
the torso, arm connectors and the sub-arms for the binders would probably be metal. plastic wouldn't handle the stress from all that weight. (or give it a locking mechanism)
Wow, there's so much going on with this kit! Detail-wise, MGEX is definitely a must-have however, I'm a bit worried on how the joints will last. Much better if there's also a metallic part included of its frame for added stability.
I panel lined the gold plates, worst mistake I've done. Because the gold was electroplated the gold has degraded to chrome color on some parts after cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. 😅
I know it won't happen, but an MGEX Infinite Justice would make my day, even if most of the EX points would be the same as this one, same for an MGEX Destiny. The Kshatriya would be great for this line as the EX point could be metal parts to reinforce areas of it that would be way too heavy for an MG kit.
I don't think that would be enough for a Kshatriya. Those metal support pieces are normal on a lot of PGs. Plus the PG Unicorns even used harder plastic for reinforced joints, so metal might not even be necessary. They seem to be really focusing on various gimmicks for these MGEX as well as the more popular stuff. The Unicorn was the transformation and LED strip. The Strike Freedom was about its various special coatings. I don't think we'll see a Destiny either for that same reason. A Justice might be possible due to its backpack/hover thing, but it lacks the popularity of the Strike Freedom. The Wing Zero is also unlikely due to the recent Ver Ka release and the same goes for the announced Zeta. As much as I want to see a Build Burning, the RG God Gundam as well as the fact that you cannot combine anything with blue to get your orange means that a color changing Build Burning is not likely either. I think the next one most likely to get it is some form of 00 that allows you to transition between its various forms.
I was honestly skeptical about this one, but after seeing it in person at the Gundam Base Tokyo, it definitely looks extremely premium, even moreso than MGEX Unicorn. Sadly, it's not really in my price range but I'm pretty content with my MG Freedom 2.0.
I've mentioned this before but it does feel a bit like Bandai is moving to make the MGEX line a 1/100 scale Perfect Grade, kind of like they've made the RG line into 1/144 scale Master Grades, that is based on the last couple of years releases of RG kits. The MGEX Unicorn was compared to the PG Unicorn with it's detail and lighting and with the MGEX Strike Freedom inner frame detail and opening armor being compared to the PG Unleashed RX-78, unfortunately while I've built many RGs and MGs I have very limited experience when it comes to the PG line... so I wondering what other builders/ collectors felt. BTW, I really do love this version of the Strike Freedom from both the design and the build, and it sure would be great to see this done to the Infinite Justice too... another great review.
Absolutely! With the Unicorn, the one thing the PG seriously lacks is the ability to pose in dynamic poses due to the weight- something that was fixed by making the MGEX. Just like how this is better than the PG as well, just smaller scale 🤷♂️ Good point!
I never watched anything from cosmic era, but MG Strike Freedom was always one of the most visually impressive when I saw Gundam display models in stores as a kid. Seeing how well the gold is executed makes me really want a MG Gold Frame Amatsu Mina/Hana. For the next MGEX my hope would be the Aerial with the gimmick being tons of bits and effect pieces with a custom base to hold them. Plus Aerial seems like it (she?) is power scaling like exia/00/qant so I expect the final form to have either a ton of bits or a super flashy combined effect on the level of moonlight butterfly. From my limited knowledge, G-Witch seems to be popular and selling a lot of kits so it could happen.
And to the end-video question (apologies for the spam of comments!): It would be very unlikely *_but very interesting_* to see how Bandai tackle a MGEX Ground Gundam. I don't see it having a lot of the same obvious "EX"-ifying features as the previous two kits - lighting (Unicorn), plating (Strike Freedom). What would they emphasize? Articulation, maybe, like how the original MG Ground Gundam emphasized being able to kneel? A truly excessive amount of mechanical detail, perhaps? Perhaps they could go full hog and implement true-to-"life" mechanical features, like how they recreated the VF-1 Valkyrie's canon on-screen-and-in-concept-artwork-engine-nacelle-transfer-arm-transformation mechanism? It would certainly be a sight to behold, a 1/100 scale pneumatic arm extending and retracting to close the cockpit canopy, and a 1/100-scale pulley arm next to it with working cable wire. Ooh, now that I think about it, the next obvious EX feature MUST be automated movement! Be it something as simple as a gatling gun's rotating barrels, or something complex like a full-on walking cycle. Imagine a 1/100 Ground Gundam with removable chest armor that reveals its chest vulcan complete with ammo feed, and turn on the juice and the belt automatically feeds and the gun "fires." That would legitimately be sick AF to build and see.
Thanks for the review! Im hoping to see more work in progress vids from you this year. I know on stream you were debating on painting this and I think you should it would be good for content and a nice challenge
@@JimC1984 to me it just doesn’t make sense, Bandai has the inner frame to make a new Exia but they haven’t. Bandai’s going to do what Bandai does and force people’s hands into buying an overpriced mgex by making it into a kit they know that people want and they will exploit that.
Best looking kit they've ever made imo. Just worried about the wing weight since my normal MG strike freedom wings didnt hold up over the years. I honestly have no idea what people think extreme means by just being gold. The amount of engineering I'm this thing is insanity. Unicorn just had LEDs which honestly don't feel extreme at all. Also, transformations wouldn't necessarily make anything extreme imo. You want gimmicks, gimmicks, gimmicks. And this has a lot going for it. No MG has ever looked this good or had this much going for it.
I think that unicorn was withehld from having added gimmicks because of the katoki branding but imo that was good in itself compared to this which I think was overly detailed.
there was some electrical engineering in the unicorn, a more complicated kind of engineering than just putting a couple layers of plastic on each other
Im a bit late here, but my choice for the next MGEX would be the G-Self, with maybe the extreme point being a large amount of some new super-high quality effect parts for the perfect pack.
Based on my observation on the next MGEX and the release of MG kits recently, Exia or Astray Red Frame are probably next in the line given how they are one of the more popular Gundams and their respective MG versions are kind of outdated nowadays
I suspect the included runner stand is intended for all the metallic runners, to prevent them from scratching on other things. In the same way I don't like guitars with too much fancy inlays, this kit is not really my thing though I do really admire the engineering
Bandai could and should totally do an MGEX Atlas and have the "globe joints" as its gimmick or something. Idk, I've just been wanting more than just a High Grade of that ms lol
Now that would be a great choice for an MGEX, extreme point being the most articulated MG ever. But me personally, I would love to see an MGEX ELS Qant, simply cuz we never had a kit for it.
bandai should really start including adapters for backpack mounts esp for back heavy kits. sometimes i just want simple standing pose but with standard stands they get propped up too high that doesnt fit with other kits and also takes more space.
This just really gets my hopes up for a PG Freedom down the line. Never cared too much for the strike freedom, but the Regular freedom just speaks to me.
Another kit I wouldn't mind building, just way out of my price range. Next MGEX? I have no idea. Maybe a focus on articulation with something like the Exia or God Gundam? Or something downright silly like: MGEX Wing Gundam Zero Custom! Most EXTREME wings on a Gundam evar! Made with actual feathers!
Bandai needs to grow a pair, take a risk, and go for something big but different. I know and they know we all love lead suits, but lately that's basically all they do. Seeing how this probably ate up most, if not damn near all their MG development budget, it would have been cool to see something different like a Hummingbird, larger UC suit or anything else at this point. But of course the reality is they want the biggest sales, so low risk/high reward is their go to. At least we got p-bandai for the unique (putting that lightly) designs. :/ Great video and great review!
They did it right. I feel the price is right, too. Mgex Astray. I know they may have gone overboard on Astray models, but a great kit for frame exposure and articulation.
I would imagine the injected gold was used to reduce wear and tear on the plates parts. It’s used in all the parts that get rubbed on a lot, swivel, etc. How pissed would you be to just see you metallic plating shearing away after so many poses?
Gods Zaku that kit is glorious, this is one of those I wish trav and I where in better health and financial positions to he able to afford lol. Thanks for thw video showcasing it.
Kinda hoping they make the next MGEX the Exia 2.0, because the season 1 MGs have been hands above the original MG Exia. They could enhance its articulation, since it's a melee suit, and even pack in some extras to be able to make it the R1 or R2.
I'll say it to anyone who listens, but a MGEX Sinanju, focused on the glossy & shiny armour, or something more niche like effect parts. The Sinanju has been kinda cheated on good kits over the years. Everyone knows about the RG's myriad issues, the HG is fine enough but it's just an old HG, & while I love the MG it relies on stickers & waterslides for the sleeves markings & the level of detail, articulation, & gimmicks just isn't up to today's standards & it deserves a revamp. BUT it's not a main Gundam so it's never going to get another kit ever again! :)
The reason why some of the kit isn't plated is because it's a lot weaker and more brittle than the injected gold and would make those areas easy to break
Feels very weird to me that the MGEX version of this MS doesn't include a base that lets you show off the dragoons detached, especially when the old MG kit that's been on my shelf for the past decade DOES have exactly that.
I would definitely be happy with a Core Gundam MGEX with all of the armor included because it's going to be pricey regardless. Maybe. Unsure honestly, I just know that an MG Core Gundam would be really lovely to have.
As someone who built the regular MG Strike Freedom within the last year, this still makes me ALMOST wanna do it again lol love all the changes to the kit Would be nice to see the next MGEX be from G Gundam, maybe the RG God Gundam launch was a way to test the waters on how well it’d sell 🤷♂️
many articulations points were injected gold, I feel that's ok cuz the plated gold is somewhat brittle and easy to break, but yeah, I feel disappointed when they include injected gold on other places too, might had to paint them over again.
It's definitely a premium feel when you pick up the box, I unboxed a case of them at the store I worked at and it felt luxurious and yes the moment I cut opened the shipping box the first one sold lol. Now as for it being an MGEX it's 50/50 I get what they are trying to market it as but to me it's a further glorified version of like the special coating kits etc we just got the silver coating Gundam base one in stock and it reminded me of the MGEX questioning why they didn't just say ultra p bandai special coating or molding colour (one of the Gundam base kits that came in said on box molded special colour) so could have gone that route...your not the only one who was thinking about it being named MGEX a 2.0 special coating that ended up being extreme enough I guess is what they went with rather then a p Bandai limited edition thing (well I guess it's good for us customers who want to get hands on it at least it's not Gundam base exclusive type deal harder to come by) Now all that detail is hiding under the kit like a high end diecast model race car with an engine hiding under it but you never see it as there is no hood. Why not give us ap Bandai armature stand for the armour to be shown off like it was on a ghost of the Gundam and have the gold to be shown off on its own? I agree maybe a cheaper kit where only the needed special gold parts that show off through armour is required. Then for those who want a p Bandai exclusive version of it can get the full gold that's another route (it's not just the price it's also how limited this kit will be due to manufacturing etc) we had 6-8 in our small shop and sold out same day in store and online and haven't got any back in stock since then lol
Have you already painted this model? Just curious of your color scheme and what molded gold parts to airbrush… the only one that might be exposed significantly… tks
How is the molded gold on this kit? It makes me think of the RG Strike Freedom I built years ago. I would up having to repaint the ENTIRE frame save for the plated parts for the Dragoons…
I'd love to see the GP-01[fb] as the next mgex with a focus on detail parts since the original MG has a ton of glue on detail parts; and maybe be sort of like the pg with the hangar parts and the options for either ground or full burnern. I'm not going to stop crying for a 2.0 until it happens, 🤣🤣🤣
I know there have been plenty of Nu Guindams, but an MGEX that has funnels that are actually drones you can fly around would be pretty sweet. Even better if you can control them with your mind.
My prediction the next MGEX is OO raiser and the extreme point of that ms is focusing in the Twin drive system. And also full inner frame same as like mgex strike freedom.
I am kina on the edge with this one. It is cool, however it doesn't offer that much more when compared to the standard MG kits yet its price is significantly higher.
On the talk about runner stands, I too got into the habit early on of lining up the runners in alphabetical order in the box. If a runner is plated or otherwise delicate, I tend to reuse the plastic bags they come packaged in to cover it and keep it separate from the other runners. A bit nonessential, honestly, but if I were spending $150 on a kit like this where the plating is the big selling point, well... I'd be interested if anyone knows, is the plating on this kit any more difficult to remove than it historically has been? ie via Purple Power. It could be both a positive and a negative if they've made the plating more resilient, maybe by spraying a sealant on or something. (I suppose if they did, though, they'd market that point...)
My only gripe with the kit is the metal stickers they don’t stay on the green goop is annoying to get off. I’m not a big fan of water slides. I have a monkey brain and I love the simplicity of normal stickers and wish we got normal version of water slides

Can't wait for MGEX RX-78-2 and MGEX Exia, my favorite Gundam designs.
Hopefully we get an mg scale atlas, thunderbolts my favourite media theyve put out in a while but idk whats happenin with the 3rd season
bandai should really start including adapters for backpack mounts esp for back heavy kits. sometimes i just want simple standing pose but with standard stands they get propped up too high that doesnt fit with other kits and also takes more space.
This just really gets my hopes up for a PG Freedom down the line. Never cared too much for the strike freedom, but the Regular freedom just speaks to me.
How about Turn A for next MGEX?
Awesome build and review. Can't wait to build.
an MGEX 00 kit that sprays green glitter everywhere would be hilarious XD
It looks amazing even without paint but I’m waiting to see if there is a sale in the near future.
Another kit I wouldn't mind building, just way out of my price range.
Next MGEX? I have no idea. Maybe a focus on articulation with something like the Exia or God Gundam?
Or something downright silly like:
MGEX Wing Gundam Zero Custom! Most EXTREME wings on a Gundam evar! Made with actual feathers!
Normally, I would panel-line my kits but this looks fantastic without inking it up.
Great video and great review!
I ordered mine from USA Gundam store and it still hasn’t come! I guess I’ll have to wait some more while watching this
They did it right.
Nice kit I’m actually going to get me one tomorrow along with two other kit the
00 qaunta full saber and 00 raiser
I can't find it anywhere in Tokyo outside of 1-2 mom and pop stores that have it massively marked up.
Good timing! I got mine today °v°
i think they had to since there has already been a full burst edition of the strike freedom in mg form, even though it was strike freedom 1.0
GP02. The extreme point would be having extremely sturdy hands that could hold the giant shield
That’s a little too extreme even for Bandai! 😂
I wish they used the same hands they had with the PG Strike Freedom. You had to assemble them but they were sturdy and awesome
Wow!!! This kit is super cool!! 😯😯😯😯😯
I would definitely be happy with a Core Gundam MGEX with all of the armor included because it's going to be pricey regardless. Maybe. Unsure honestly, I just know that an MG Core Gundam would be really lovely to have.
Wow this kit is AMAZING
I really wish I could afford it, unfortunately I can't spend too much on the hobby in one time...
Is it possible to pre build this kit before painting ? Or would you recommend painting before building
As someone who built the regular MG Strike Freedom within the last year, this still makes me ALMOST wanna do it again lol love all the changes to the kit
Would be nice to see the next MGEX be from G Gundam, maybe the RG God Gundam launch was a way to test the waters on how well it’d sell 🤷♂️
I now understand the joke MGEX stands for MGEXpensive. ;)
Beautiful kit. Great review.
Thanks! 👍
many articulations points were injected gold, I feel that's ok cuz the plated gold is somewhat brittle and easy to break, but yeah, I feel disappointed when they include injected gold on other places too, might had to paint them over again.
i love it! my only complaint is that there is no fix pose hands to hold the beam saber.
an MGEX GP01, 02, and 03 would be perfect. Bandai needs to make new MG's for those three Prototypes.
Yea this kit looks so good , deff on my kit list
Very cool, I have 2 units available and I wanted to resell the other one. ☺️
Yo bro how much was this model for the strike freedom cuz i really want it also do u do give aways?
Best MGEX years
For me a mgex exia that does something with trans am would be incredible.
Great Review Thank you
Beautiful kit but I might respray the vents gunmetal. Think it would look better, I feel they are gold for the sake of more gold.
Just paint all the gold parts with shinny gold paint as I did with my mg kit if you don't like the gold color they gave.
This is going to be weird to ask but will it fit in my hyte y70 pc case?😅
The next MGex kit should be turn A gundam with the mustache being the Extreme part.
If it only had the effect parts for the back and fins the this kit from the Full Burst Mode the
it would be truly complete
Id prefer if they focused on older PG kit such as the pg strike or pg wing zero custom. This kit actually feels like the mb ver.
That thing is beautiful out of the box 🤤👍
It sure is!
just wish that they would release a dull gold version so that it is easier to paint or something.
ZZ extreme or master gundam extreme! lets go!
You heard Barbatos will be entering the PG line-up.
Please let me know if a beginner can build this
I have yet to build mine. I’m excited tho!
My only gripe with the kit is the metal stickers they don’t stay on the green goop is annoying to get off. I’m not a big fan of water slides. I have a monkey brain and I love the simplicity of normal stickers and wish we got normal version of water slides
