And he was fine after a day or so.

100% agree to that but I also want to financially recover from buying it. So a 2.0 that has the same articulation and innovation from the MGEX SF with only minimal silver plated runners would be enough

I think a fair argument for the injection gold that I believe is that the injection gold will last longer for the joint portions than it would have if it was all plated. At the end of the day, it's also a super easy paint job, but I can see why people would be upset, especially with all the marketing not really giving off that it was injection gold. I for one will be painting it gold when I get around to fully customizing this kit, (I have it pre-ordered from the USA Gundam store,) but I can still fully understand why people would be upset, although I think it'll just be better in the long run. This model otherwise is probably my favorite plastic model Bandai has ever put out, and I will eat this thing up when I get it in my hands.
People need to stop whining about injection gold, it's not that bad and if you're using gold for joints (which the SF pointlessly does) then that's the best option

There's an old MG Infinite Justice... but no old MG Justice. There's an RG Justice, but no RG Infinite Justice. There's a new MG Justice, but no new MG Infinite Justice. There's a HGCE Infinite Justice, but no HGCE Justice. And the old MG Infinite Justice and new MG Justice are not comparable, because the latter is based on the redesigned 2.0 Freedom, so it's a re-interpretation with a different detail level than what the old Infinite Justice was going for. Yeah, there are mobile suits which are even more under-served, but none of them were piloted by the supposed main characters of the show they came from. (Except the G-self. MG G-self when?)

I may be okay on the strike freedom, i will say, this is one very nice kit! The detail is insane and the amount of gold plastic bleeding through the armor really pops, it's very impressive! The armor separation is amazing and along with the articulation, this kit is just simply awesome! Great review!!!
It’s about time the trend reverses of high end MG’s leading to top-of-the-line RG’s. I want to see more top-of-the-line RG’s getting trumped by over-the-top MG’s… extreme or otherwise.
A MGEX Hi-Nu would be awesome, the Ver.Ka looks... bland, even more when compared to the Nu Ver.Ka. But the Ver.Ka can be used with the HWS option... An Exia with leds AND sound effects for the GN drive would be crazy
I absolutely love the building portion of the hobby and this is a masterpiece of engineering to satisfy that. I don't care about the injection molding but I'll probably paint the armor at the very least.
i would love in the future a PG Unleashed Strike Freedom, and have them go all out crazy with the kit all inner frame is different shades of rich shiny gold, have peg connector to the wing to be diecast metal parts, the wing of light, LEDs for the wings of light which, parts to display the dragoons when deployed. have the eyes and wing led to be connected to one switch, also have all weapons to have LEDs including a pair of light up beam sabers light up, beam shields, have a diplay base that really represents the Strike Freedom at its full glory. because to make a proper gunpla for the strike freedom you pretty much have to crazy off the charts in many things when it comes to ideas for the kit. also have actual golden plate fully movable hands that is ACTUALLY better than the original PG Strike Freedom and PGs in general, or just a fully movable version of PG Unleashed RX-78-2.
@@FerrickAnimathe thing is that they can’t just release a proud defender kit and slap it onto the back and call it a day because the main body itself actually has differences. The shoulders and gauntlets got redesigned, the back of the legs have bigger thrusters, pretty much the whole waist unit is different, especially the way the railguns worked. So if they did do a separate proud defender kit, they would also have to include parts to change the main body and the amount of disassembling involved, especially for the back of the legs is giving me headaches.

Stuff like the calf boosters, back skirts and railguns being completely different can’t just be handwaved off as “well this main body is already a redesign anyway”. If I’m paying a massive premium for an MGEX, I’m gonna feel very ripped off if they do a half measure and half ass not even updating the main body. The Strike Freedom’s main body canonically got upgraded with completely new weapons and some new armor, if I’m paying that much for a kit, you bet you ass that I wanna see that reflected onto the kit’s design. They rebuilt the HG from the ground up to reflect the new body, engineering new armor parts and potentially a new inner frame for the waist won’t be too much to ask. Hell, they redesigned the PG strike’s armor for the perfect strike, they even fiddled with the proportions for the MG impulse Blanche, it’s well within reason they’ll update the main body if they do an MGEX MSF. 80% of the main body will literally stay the same anyway so it wouldn’t even be too much of a hassle to redesign
MGEX looks like an entirely different _brand_ of kits... not just a reimagining of the MG line but like an entirely different company is making them. Can't wait to see what else they bring to the table.
2:42 I'm mostly kinda sad about this because 4 parts of the etching stickers was coming off from the knees and the wings they couldn't stick rip, it was kinda frustrating but the inner etching stickers for the legs and the back of the shoulders are sticking well 8:22 my only biggest issue with the mgex is these hands because the fingers comes out easily sometimes
Hmmm... the wings of light and full burst mode effect might not be the only pbandai they could put in this unit. A clear color body armor like the red parts can be added to showcase the gold inside without removing the armor...

I'll build it soon, been looking everywhere for reviews and advices on what to do and not to do with this specific, incredible kit. For almost $200, I don't have room for mistakes
imo, this kit trivializes the PG for me personally. The best feature for the PG SF is the spring-loaded dragoons. However, I find that super finicky and is a total chore to pose with. The MGEX version has much more simplified wing structure, with emphasis relocated to the details of inner frame and an overwhelmingly amount of details made this a much better display out of the box.
I now expect the next MGEX from Cosmic Era to be the Akatsuki. Basically an inversion of the MGEX Strike Freedom but with possibly both striker packs. This seems to be as expensive as a Perfect Grade (Which I still need to get BTW), and I have no use for the gold (likely to paint it, but why would you?). If only it were an actual Strike Freedom 2.0.
regarding the Xiphias Railguns on the side skirts, this was the same mechanism on the OG MG Strike Freedom and is a pain in the ass. I thought that the RG and HGCE implementation was good and hoped that they did this to the MGEX but alas, nope. :/
I missed out on the preorder period...and was pretty bummed but man did it turn out to be the best fate as I bought a MG Strike freedom with the fortune meow Conversion kit, painted and decaled the heck out of it. IMO it looks better than the MGEX but man the amount of effort tho....haha still worth every min of effort :)))

And Bandai themselves admit it's not ace visually by plating the crap out of every piece they can because it's visually more impressive. But I understand a lot of OOB builders with low standards are just fine with this gold because they have no understanding of how crap it looks compared to a finished painted piece. That aside, my point wasn't a complaint about the plastic- it was actually in praise of it's mechanical properties in comparison to the plated sprues.
@@Akemi001 it's only inconsistent in this case but it still doesn't change the fact that if it was plated, then those joints would be far too brittle then you'll be bitching about paying $200+ for a broken model but hey, at least it has plated gold amirite? It's also not objective, at all. I've had both and injection gold isn't that bad and less of an eyesore than plated gold with smudges and shit all over it, especially if you handle kits regularly. It's not low standards, it's not having the time or being perfectly happy with the OOB look. But keep being a gatekeeping asshole, it's making you look so good.

is there a way to enhance the adhesive of the etching stickers without ruining the actual plastic of the kit? will glue stick work? or will CA glue ruins the detail of the plastic behind?
I finally received my MGEX Strike Freedom and now can't wait to build it.... but after watching the review it really does look like it's going to completely out-class all my other MG Seed Destiny kits on my shelf... so now I'm left with making the totally un-reasonable wish to the GUNPLA gods... to give me a MGEX Infinite Justice, (can you imagine the same treatment to the silver inner frame against the magenta outer armor), a MGEX Destiny Gundam too, (making the inner frame multiple shades of grey/ gun metal)... and what the hell... I'll shoot for the moon... how about, even a MGEX Legend Gundam, with the same treatment and detail... I just would beg and plead to not make them P-Bandai, it would just make them way too expensive, especially for us in the West, (which, if this crazy dream came true, they totally would be P-Bandai)... Can't wait to get it sometimes (early) next year. Even though Destiny is a mess and Strike Freedom is kind of overpowered, I still like the design. The original MG was my first MG back then if I remember correctly (or at worst the second). Sadly I only have the standard edition not the full burst one as it was already a bit expensive for my student wallet.
Which of the gold rails need painting, and does anyone have tips for how to paint it? Just recently invested in an airbrush set-up and aim to be painting next summer. I'll probably first paint the gold parts on the MG Strike Freedom before I touch the MGEX (have a few cheap EG/HG to learn on too).

Yeah...you shouldn't need a can of spray paint for a $150+ kit. They priced me out on this one, I'll pick it up if they go on sale or a KO comes out, but that price tag is too high for what you get. It looks great and I would have jumped on it for $100...probably even ~$110ish, but for a kit that already has a pretty decent representation, I can't justify this one.
sadly this goes to waste without custom painting expertise. i was tempted to buy it but didn't go ahead cuz i don't know repainting stuffs. the gold's shitty, blue looks old like bayside blue. if bandai improves both of these colours & give the model a metal build finish instead of a plastic white, it would look superb with all the details.

Where'd you get the idea that RG is anywhere near "phasing out" the HGs? There was one RG release this year, and two last year. And while there was only one "main sequence" HGUC kit this year (the Shenlong Gundam, which would be a HGAC...) that's because there were six kits released for Gundam Breaker Battlogue, three kits for Gundam IBO Urdr Hunt, and eight kits for Witch from Mercury, for a total of seventeen other mass market releases in HG 1/144 scale. Counting the P-bandai stuff there were more than thirty HG releases this year. And basically all of the RG SEED kits have gotten HGCE kits *after* their RG releases, except the Force Impulse where the RG came out afterwards, and the Justice which never gets any love. (They made an *Infinite* Justice HGCE, but no Justice, just like they made an RG Justice but never an RG Infinite Justice. Sometimes there's just *no* justice.)
What the other reply said, plus I will add that MGEX kits would be hella expensive to plan and produce. So no, it's not even financially possible for MGEX to "phase out" normal MGs like you're suggesting.

This is indeed a gorgeous kit, however after seeing it fully realized think I'm going to pass on it, I much prefer it when the finished look isn't as hyper-stylized and is instead more accurate to the original design (for instance, I much prefer the RX-78-2 Ver.2.0 over the 3.0, etc)
i get ya, to me, this is closer to an "what if it was real" design, that is meant to be diferent from the animated version. since the SF has so many releases, its nice that they each have their own look.
Did not mean to hate, but is it just me who doesn't like the MGEX iteration of strike freedom, design-wise? I feel that it's just way too much everywhere it dilutes the MS as a whole. It's too 'extreme' for my taste. I much more prefer the 'acceptable' sleek design level of the metal build one. Even the 2006 kit is still looking good for me personally when painted well. But despite my personal opinion, I'm happy there's an update for strike freedom, and I am hoping the rest of seed destiny suits follow but a 2.0 only will do.

There is no way we aren't going to get a MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom as well. They are going to milk the HECK out of this design!

I missed out on the preorder period...and was pretty bummed but man did it turn out to be the best fate as I bought a MG Strike freedom with the fortune meow Conversion kit, painted and decaled the heck out of it. IMO it looks better than the MGEX but man the amount of effort tho....haha still worth every min of effort :)))

@@557deadpool It's not ace visually, it's inconsistent and that's objective fact. And Bandai themselves admit it's not ace visually by plating the crap out of every piece they can because it's visually more impressive. But I understand a lot of OOB builders with low standards are just fine with this gold because they have no understanding of how crap it looks compared to a finished painted piece. That aside, my point wasn't a complaint about the plastic- it was actually in praise of it's mechanical properties in comparison to the plated sprues.
@@Akemi001 it's only inconsistent in this case but it still doesn't change the fact that if it was plated, then those joints would be far too brittle then you'll be bitching about paying $200+ for a broken model but hey, at least it has plated gold amirite? It's also not objective, at all. I've had both and injection gold isn't that bad and less of an eyesore than plated gold with smudges and shit all over it, especially if you handle kits regularly.
It's not low standards, it's not having the time or being perfectly happy with the OOB look. But keep being a gatekeeping asshole, it's making you look so good.

7:25 i agree with you! This kit supposedly integrates shifting parts from some MG and RG kits, so they could have used moving parts for the elbows too, like those from the RG Sazabi or the RG Strike Freedom

I finally received my MGEX Strike Freedom and now can't wait to build it.... but after watching the review it really does look like it's going to completely out-class all my other MG Seed Destiny kits on my shelf... so now I'm left with making the totally un-reasonable wish to the GUNPLA gods... to give me a MGEX Infinite Justice, (can you imagine the same treatment to the silver inner frame against the magenta outer armor), a MGEX Destiny Gundam too, (making the inner frame multiple shades of grey/ gun metal)... and what the hell... I'll shoot for the moon... how about, even a MGEX Legend Gundam, with the same treatment and detail... I just would beg and plead to not make them P-Bandai, it would just make them way too expensive, especially for us in the West, (which, if this crazy dream came true, they totally would be P-Bandai)... Thanx man, another solid review and have a Happy New Year!!!

Can't wait to get it sometimes (early) next year. Even though Destiny is a mess and Strike Freedom is kind of overpowered, I still like the design. The original MG was my first MG back then if I remember correctly (or at worst the second). Sadly I only have the standard edition not the full burst one as it was already a bit expensive for my student wallet.

Which of the gold rails need painting, and does anyone have tips for how to paint it? Just recently invested in an airbrush set-up and aim to be painting next summer. I'll probably first paint the gold parts on the MG Strike Freedom before I touch the MGEX (have a few cheap EG/HG to learn on too).
In the end, how did you paint it ?

Yeah...you shouldn't need a can of spray paint for a $150+ kit. They priced me out on this one, I'll pick it up if they go on sale or a KO comes out, but that price tag is too high for what you get. It looks great and I would have jumped on it for $100...probably even ~$110ish, but for a kit that already has a pretty decent representation, I can't justify this one.

sadly this goes to waste without custom painting expertise. i was tempted to buy it but didn't go ahead cuz i don't know repainting stuffs. the gold's shitty, blue looks old like bayside blue. if bandai improves both of these colours & give the model a metal build finish instead of a plastic white, it would look superb with all the details.

I see the MGEX line will likely in the future phase out the MG line just like RG line is already phasing out the HGs.
Where'd you get the idea that RG is anywhere near "phasing out" the HGs? There was one RG release this year, and two last year. And while there was only one "main sequence" HGUC kit this year (the Shenlong Gundam, which would be a HGAC...) that's because there were six kits released for Gundam Breaker Battlogue, three kits for Gundam IBO Urdr Hunt, and eight kits for Witch from Mercury, for a total of seventeen other mass market releases in HG 1/144 scale. Counting the P-bandai stuff there were more than thirty HG releases this year.
And basically all of the RG SEED kits have gotten HGCE kits *after* their RG releases, except the Force Impulse where the RG came out afterwards, and the Justice which never gets any love. (They made an *Infinite* Justice HGCE, but no Justice, just like they made an RG Justice but never an RG Infinite Justice. Sometimes there's just *no* justice.)
What the other reply said, plus I will add that MGEX kits would be hella expensive to plan and produce. So no, it's not even financially possible for MGEX to "phase out" normal MGs like you're suggesting.

This is indeed a gorgeous kit, however after seeing it fully realized think I'm going to pass on it, I much prefer it when the finished look isn't as hyper-stylized and is instead more accurate to the original design (for instance, I much prefer the RX-78-2 Ver.2.0 over the 3.0, etc)
i get ya, to me, this is closer to an "what if it was real" design, that is meant to be diferent from the animated version. since the SF has so many releases, its nice that they each have their own look.

Did not mean to hate, but is it just me who doesn't like the MGEX iteration of strike freedom, design-wise?
I feel that it's just way too much everywhere it dilutes the MS as a whole. It's too 'extreme' for my taste.
I much more prefer the 'acceptable' sleek design level of the metal build one. Even the 2006 kit is still looking good for me personally when painted well.
But despite my personal opinion, I'm happy there's an update for strike freedom, and I am hoping the rest of seed destiny suits follow but a 2.0 only will do.
