- Featuring Tony Hart, Margot Wilson, and Colin Bennett as The Caretaker.
Part 1: • Hartbeat - Print (1 of 3)
Part 2: • Hartbeat - Print (2 of 3)
Part 3: • Hartbeat - Print (3 of 3)
Tony uses ink to print his fingerprints onto some paper, and then uses a pen to turn them into doodles of a rabbit and a cat. He applies poster paint to various household objects, and uses them to print a picture of a face.
Tony and Margot use paint and foam rubber blocks to print a picture of a building on a large sheet of paper on the studio floor.
Margot experiments with some simple designs using her initials, MW. She looks at different materials for making printing stamps, including rubber erasers, and rubber heels and soles. She then makes various stamps, including her initials, a sailing boat, a footprint, and the word "PRINT".
Tony plays some animated computer graphics, which were created using MacPaint on an Apple Macintosh 128K computer.
Finally, Tony uses a roller to put a very thin film of printing ink onto a sheet of glass. He places a blank sheet of paper over it, and uses a hard pencil to trace a photograph on top, so that the paper picks up the ink. (Notice that he doesn't trace the woman's mouth - this must have been edited out of the programme!) He also traces a quick doodle of a woman's face, using a pointed stick.

Mr Bennett always reminded me of Mr McGee out of The Incredible Hulk; always there, always turning up when least expected, always causing bother. I wonder if Tony Hart ever got pissed off with him when the cameras stopped filming; 'don't make me angry, Mr Bennett, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry'.
RIP Colin.
Awww I loved Mr Bennett. RIP
LOOOOOLLLL! Tony's drawing @3:31 just looks so wrong!
OMG... don't ruin my childhood lol
I was just about to say the same thing!!!!!!!! I was thinking it could also be "flipping the birdie" or lady bits when he adds the middle circles.
It was a drawing of Nosey Bonk or a hairy cock and balls.
I can't get enough of that theme tune. Got to be honest
yeah ..it's like rave / drum n bass for old fart codgers.
If that makes me an old fart codger then I'm very pleased!
Thomas Cleary
yes - u should be, now go get you're fuckin' pension... u old phart!
So memorable for us in the 1980s era of our childhoods
I notice the first picture on the Gallery is by one 'Andrew Hart'. Is that nepotism? I never got my picture up there, and I'd almost got over it until I saw this.
Re-watching this as a 40 year old man, and still as rapt as I was as a child!
True legend
Loved Margot Wilson. Mr Bennett was something else
I'm ready for the flack but Hartbeat pisses all over Art Attack
I used to be terrified of Mr. Bennett when I was a kid! No idea why!
@petergray1974, It's a penis, couldn't stop laughing when I saw him making it, lol!
this is my childhood era, the 1980s
Mr Bennett was the Scrappy Doo of Hartbeat
WE LOVE YOU HART BEAT now we have Frankie Goes To Hollywood @ 7:21!
I remember the antics of Colin the Caretaker in Take Hart and I believe Tony had to keep him in order.
@killwill83 Colin Bennett was an actor and director I think
I loved Tony Hart in the 70s and 80s when I was a kid
Mr Bennett........a great comic character!!!
Love the incidental music on the first few segments - anyone know what any of it is? Is it by David Owen Smith like the theme?
PS wearing white slacks to kneel over fresh black ink - few could get away with this but Tony Hart seems to! I wonder how many trousers and carpets were ruined by children re-enacting this episode.
Hated Mr Bennett
Tony always had such very nice shirts didn't he. And never got 'em mucky..
I was always very impressed that Tony Hart hosted this wonderfull show from his studio flat. The show was also very hi-tech with the inclusion of computers (in an era when PCs were only starting to gain popularity in the home)Though in this episode he manages to sneak some rather crude humour into the show when at 3:31 he draws a huge 'Hairy Canary'which got past the BBC sensors! This aside, Tony's presenation style was very relaxed, upbeat and just right for his audience.(even if some of his ideas were better suited for an adult audience!)
Sancho O'Dell sorry to lower the tone lol but he has a bigger one downstairs. I nearly fell of my chair lool.
When Tony Hart starts talking to Mr Bennet at the start, I felt that I was a fly on the wall in a mental home.
God, that's exactly the vibe. Weird.
A piece of paper. Some ink. Welcome to Tony Hart's world. Irriplacable..
Btw in part 3 the Caretaker's poem: Hartbeat... it's not smutty or dirty...... no? HAHAHA XD
3.33.....erm...Tony...
