  • The S&W Model 39-2 9MM pistol was the first of a long line of Smith & Wesson all-metal, double-single action, semi-automatic handguns produced long before polymer pistols entered the scene. Created during the 1950’s in response to the UU.S. Military’s request for a replacement for the 1911, the S&W Model 39 was acknowledged as a revolutionary design. Although the Military discontinued its search, the Model 39 and its variants would go on to become a success with law the enforcement and civilian markets. The Model 39 would eventually evolve into three generations of pistols over a period about fifty years. This review includes the clean-up of used Model 39-2, range activity and a demonstration of disassembly and reassembly.

    Great video !! Thank you. This gun brings back alot of memories of my youth. I recently laid away a near mint condition 39-2 at a pawn shop with 1 extra magazine. Im happy to have run into one in beautiful original shape. I subscribed. 👍

    Picked one of these up today & researched the serial number to find it was an early production (second half of 1971). Nearly mint. Absolutely gorgeous pistols.

    It was the first centerfire pistol I shot in the late-70's. It was very pleasant to shoot and pointed very nice. Slim and aggressive texturing on the grips--I loved it! 40 years later I thought I should own one and now I own several and couple Model 59s. An outstanding design.

    I'm in the process of restoring my dad's old 39-2. I'm glad I saw this video! I didn't realize that the lower was aluminum. I just ordered some B-C aluminum black.

      Is the trigger steel or aluminum?

      I hope you'll have better luck with B-C Aluminum Black than I had. It seems to help on small nicks, etc., but it rubs off easily. It's one of the reasons that I left the frame of my Model 59 in the bright. ruclips.net/video/Kt59ebmpVLU/видео.html

    These older guns are good stuff. I’m not a collector really. Just like looking around for good stuff & try to keep cash tucked away behind my license because I seem to come across them when I least expected it. I’ve been mainly interested in the revolvers & that’s not going to end but I have done enough homework to get my 1st S&W simi auto. Have a few favorites but knowing what you’re looking at is the most important thing,so thx. The used section & pawnshops ect are the only place to shop. I don’t mind patina either. Just as long as it’s all there and not been monkeyed around with at all or by somebody who didn’t know what they were doing. If you are doing something right, it is easy.fighting it..don’t get why some people think you work on stuff, or reassemble a gun ,of all things,with muscle. People.?.lord bless us all. Found some new old stock j frames recently. was pretty tempted ,but I left them for a collection. Looked like the boxes had never been opened .subscribed & all. Takem easy & enjoy.

    Why did the barrel bushing change between the 39 and 39-2? If you know, thanks.

    What is the difference in the silver/nickel colored pistol? My SIL has one but it’s silver or nickel colored.

      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  20 дней назад

      While there are plenty of aftermarket nickel finish S&W Model 39's out there, most are factory nickel guns. If you've got one, know that that factory nickel finish 39's demand a premium nowadays. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Unfortunately, as you know, it's not like a gun that can be reloaded and used again. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on RUclips.

    Just a quick comparison as to how much the price of guns have gone up. I purchased a S&W 39 back in 1978 and the price was $230.00 - NEW!

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  8 месяцев назад

      True, but you need to also calculate for inflation which would equate your $230 to about $1,100 in today's dollars. Still, to your point, think that's interesting. WWII period Browning P35 had a 13 rd. magazine, not 15 until 1he 1980s--90s.

      Quite frankly, given its condition at that time, it was way overpriced. Also, it was there at that price for some weeks without selling. And occasionally persistence can pay off as a buyer.
