Btw. The card backs in HS are only half shown when they are standing on a table. In LoR they are at list laying on a table so you can see the full art and in MTGA you can actually scroll card backs closer and most of them have some effect when you are hovering over them with a mouse. So - yeah :)
A card back was added to Khadgar's hero skin years later in order for blizzard to justify increasing the price from a $5 donation to a $10 payment. If I remember right, the dalaran flame cardback was also available for a short time to people to bought tickets to certain collegiate events.
This reminded me of some content you could create and I think it's the kind of thing you would do. I was using the The Thunder King Shaman Hero and realized I didn't have any "nice" emotes. They were all kind of BM. That got me thinking, which emotes were the more BM? If anyone would do this list, surely it would be you. ;)
I like this idea, even more now with so many new Hero skins coming out. for instance, the new Illidan is supremely BM, his Thanks emote is basically 'yeah, no, I don't want to thank you'.

The great thing about the golden celebration cardback is that when you see it, you know you're playing a pro player. I've seen it once in my years playing the game in an RNG heavy tavern brawl.

I'm still bitter about buying the Jaina skin, I don't even like the art but I liked her unique taunt when I went to go test drive the skin in the adventure. Turns out that emote was only for the antonidas encounter and not actually part of the product I purchased, which feels very much like false advertising. Expect my $20 court case to topple the bajillion dollar supercompany any day now.

I can even tell you that the Power Core and Thrill of Victory card backs weren't just for participating in esports events like HCT (like the one in the Bahamas you mentioned), but were also distributed to spectators who attended in-person (that's how I got them). It's pretty easy to forget just how many promotions Hearthstone has had over the years when you've participated in all of the as they arrive. Sometimes you start to take all of this stuff for granted.
You mised my favourite card back, the galaxy s8 promotion card back wich for some reason this new horrible bad expansion made disapear from my collection.
Something that was overlooked is special packs, which is understandable since that's not a normal thing people collect in this game (opting instead to open them to collect the things inside, because duh). I started collecting them back when wild rotation was removing pack types from the store "forever" and for several years every wild set had unobtainable packs, now those are obviously back but there are still special pack variants that are only obtainable through certain events and promotions that will probably eventually stop being released. Year of the Dragon packs for example will probably never show up again once the year of the dragon goes away, as are things like the set-exclusive golden packs you get with the preorders now. They'll probably keep doing class-exclusive packs in the future but at the moment those are obviously extremely rare and non-renewable as well.
7:49 allow me to correct you, this card back, which is called the dalaran flame I believe, could be obtained in Europe by rather complicated means, if I remember correctly, as you said, it comes down to connecting it to a University Account. Former German Hearthstone Streamer and high Legend Player Hell was famously rocking this bad boy.
You can still purchase the Medivh hero skin off of other players on the internet, ironically I purchased my medivh skin yesterday, just as this video released. There's still codes floating around from the Warcraft movie expansion for the skin, where together with the movie you would get a reedemable code that would grant you the skin + cardback.

Hi Solem! Let me clarify something. The Tespa card back was given to all Tespa Plus members who attend university. You DO NOT have to have a Tespa chapter at your college/university. Just make sure you are a valid student and that's it. However, this has since been unavailable since MyTespa has shut down ("temporary") due to some privacy regulations in California. They were going to rework the website to fix these issues (but never did). Now even more, unfortunately, Tespa as a brand/company is being shut down (primarily because of Activision I think [PURE SPECULATION]). Collegiate leagues will still be a thing for Blizzard/Activision games but no longer will have Tespa along with their chapters. Basically effectively hindering a lot of esports clubs and programs in many colleges.
I used to try my best to keep up. From the beta through them adding hero skins, I was super on top of collecting card backs and exclusive cards. Hero skins getting added at first was really cool, but soon after I realized I didn't want to keep up with all the purchases you have to make to get all skins, and have kinda given up. Then I took a few year break, came back, and seeing the years of things I've missed has broken any dreams of keeping up. I at least still got my beta rewards to flex in wild :')
I got the Thrill of Victory card back 7:41 when I went to the World Championships in Amsterdam 2018 a spectator, all you had to do was participate one of the many fireside tournaments they ran at the event. It's pretty cool to have I must say.
back when i started HS there are some hidden quests like: own every classic Murloc to get old murc eye ... does those hidden quests still exist? its the same for golden murc eye and i dont know if this is possible anymore i started with the release.. and its hard to keep track about something that is well... hidden.... and at this point ..mostly done already for me
The conditions to unlock the esports card backs keep changing, right now I think Power Core is unlocked with a top 8 (?) in a Masters Tour Qualifier and Thrill of Victory is unlocked by competing in a Masters Tour. Golden Celebration is much rarer, requiring a top 8 finish in a Masters Tour. at least that's how I remember unlocking all of them :)
Solem, I hope this comment will reach you. So i started playing duels recently, I love combo decks so i picked rogue. In order to have the Hero power "connections", you are required to collect 10 darkmoon faire epic cards. I desenchanted some of my cards to craft epic cards for rogue and mage (the 2 classes i use most), so therefore i crafted 2 of each, and to my surprise the game doesnt count 2 identical epic cards as 2 cards, but as 1, the same happens if you craft an epic card, and then uncraft it, it removes it from the counter. There is a flaw in the text because it says "Collect darkmoon faire epic cards (10)", it doesnt say "collect 10 unique epic cards or own 10 epic cards". It just f'ed up my game rn because i dont have any dust left and im stuck with some cards that i wont use just to gain more wins in duels.
Technically copies of the Live Action Warcraft Movie come with codes for Medivh, weather or not they still work is up in the air, but he might still be obtainable that way.
I actually have TeSPA card back as well as an European. I remember barely that there was some kind of a loophole on TeSPA's website which allowed you to make an account and register yourself in any random university (had to be a real one) and you could claim the card back that way.
Interesting you talk about clientside skins since they were actually a thing up till uldum or so and got silently patched (only worked in an older directx version that they stopped supporting). There was a way to run a software that swapped any texture for another one of the same size when your gpu rendered the image (no game modifications --> not detectable). I used it back when exodia mage was still playable to give antonidas some pixel sunglasses and make sorc very deepfried but it was mostly used in a mod called nudestone (you can probably guess what that did). Manually editing the pictures and finding what assets to replace was a giant pain in the ass though.
I have all the card backs I want (96), including all of the Heroic ones, Rumble Runner, Candle King, Monster Hunter, Legend, etc... But what I would like is for the random card back option to let me choose which card backs I want to be in the “random card back pool”. I like the random card back option, but I mostly get card backs I don’t like when playing. However, it is fun to open packs with random on for all. It is trivial, I know, but I really would like that possibility.
I recently posted this on Reddit: I recently started playing the game again and i was sad to see that i can't get Kel Thuzad so i figured unlimited skins would be good for this game. Another game i play, Smite, also had limmited time skins but now swapped over to the unlimited model. This would mean that you can purchase the skin after the limited time period but you have to pay the full price of everything else you had to buy to get it. So this for example would make the pre-order portaits available to new players but at the same price of the pre-order bundle, without the packs ofcoarse. Anyone that would want to spend a lot of money on a skin they like would have the option to do so while still giving poeple that were here when the skin released a huge bonus while blizz makes more money so everyone wins. I would probably get the KT skin like that if it was an option.
I'm literally missing only one thing. In the entire game. The Golden Celebration card back. I think one day I'll just get in and grind my way to a good enough standing on the tournament scene to get it. And yeah I've spent way way too much on this game. I got everything because of my completionist mindset but I don't mind if my stuff isn't exclusive. They made old card backs and heroes available again. Sure, go right ahead. I don't care about "exclusive". I just like to know I can choose whatever I want. And currently that is running a Meme deck warrior in Wild that runs both versions of ETC and it's glorious.

1:00 - I hate the exclusivity in pretty much everything. What's the point of having it if everyone can? Style. Sense of self. You can only choose one card back at a time. If everyone had everything, then everyone could pick one that they like the most and have some limited form of self-expression. I hate the idea that people think it's better to have something just because others can't have it. It reeks of selfishness.
You could also get Thrill of Victory from the World Championship of 2018 in Amsterdam. So I guess you could get those by going to the World Championships

FINALLY the nemsy warlock skin from a irl fireside gathering which was later available for logging in due to covid.

I FUCKING hate how preorder skins never return. I lost my 3 year on going job when the Elise bundle came out and by the time they released that expansion I couldn’t preorder. I now will concede every game vs Elise Druid in spite of not being able to buy that skin again

I got the power core card back by holding a playoff tournament back when they let innkeepers run them. (Before masters) All of the players that participated in the fireside event also got it as well. As of now I have no idea how.
I am playing since August of 2014. The game was quite fun(naxrammas was the only special?!), tavern brawls, arenas, climbing sick with decks like Windfury Shaman, Mech Mage, Face Hunter, Zoolock but when the expansions were more and more you were forced to place money to keep up for a free to play game. I did quit for some months and missed some cardbacks and still the game, to play in Standard isnt fun at all. Started playing Beta Battlegrounds but as it seems they force you to purchase the 20€/$ perks. Blizzard see us only as customers and not a community that needs to have fun through a free to play game.
Back when I played (which was from grand tournament up to around witchwood off and on) I only ever used 3-4 card backs in that entire time. Maybe that's just me but on a side note I have no idea why you're not allowed to set a card back for individual decks you make. That never made sense to me

I honestly don’t like the idea of “exclusive items” for either playing the game at a very specific time or purchasing something specific at a very specific time, I didn’t even know this game existed until over a year and a half ago which is when I started playing, all content in the game should be accesible to all players, whether they player 5 years ago, or just started yesterday, locked content that I never had a chance to obtain in the first place simply because I didn’t know the game even existed at no fault of mine is one of those little things that makes me not want to play, I was on deployment when the Aranna skin for DH was available and now I can’t get it unless it’s re-released, yes, I do believe that OG’s like Solem should be rewarded in some way for playing the game for so long with something like an OG card back or something similar, I still think that things like hero bundles being available for only about 1-2 weeks and then never seen again isn’t exactly fair especially since they can’t even be purchased with gold
So my deck will never have a golden coin because I didnt want to pay 50$ for a blizzcon ticket that i cant attend just to have a golden sathrovarr and have a complete golden deck.... And now you can just buy a bunch of the best legendaries in premade decks for $40. They really take a crap on their player base quite often.

You can still purchase the Medivh hero skin off of other players on the internet, ironically I purchased my medivh skin yesterday, just as this video released. There's still codes floating around from the Warcraft movie expansion for the skin, where together with the movie you would get a reedemable code that would grant you the skin + cardback.

Hi Solem! Let me clarify something. The Tespa card back was given to all Tespa Plus members who attend university. You DO NOT have to have a Tespa chapter at your college/university. Just make sure you are a valid student and that's it. However, this has since been unavailable since MyTespa has shut down ("temporary") due to some privacy regulations in California. They were going to rework the website to fix these issues (but never did). Now even more, unfortunately, Tespa as a brand/company is being shut down (primarily because of Activision I think [PURE SPECULATION]). Collegiate leagues will still be a thing for Blizzard/Activision games but no longer will have Tespa along with their chapters. Basically effectively hindering a lot of esports clubs and programs in many colleges.
I used to try my best to keep up. From the beta through them adding hero skins, I was super on top of collecting card backs and exclusive cards.
Hero skins getting added at first was really cool, but soon after I realized I didn't want to keep up with all the purchases you have to make to get all skins, and have kinda given up.
Then I took a few year break, came back, and seeing the years of things I've missed has broken any dreams of keeping up. I at least still got my beta rewards to flex in wild :')
I have to admit that the golden ETC looks fantasitc
I got the Thrill of Victory card back 7:41 when I went to the World Championships in Amsterdam 2018 a spectator, all you had to do was participate one of the many fireside tournaments they ran at the event. It's pretty cool to have I must say.
back when i started HS there are some hidden quests like: own every classic Murloc to get old murc eye ... does those hidden quests still exist? its the same for golden murc eye and i dont know if this is possible anymore
i started with the release.. and its hard to keep track about something that is well... hidden.... and at this point ..mostly done already for me
The conditions to unlock the esports card backs keep changing, right now I think Power Core is unlocked with a top 8 (?) in a Masters Tour Qualifier and Thrill of Victory is unlocked by competing in a Masters Tour.
Golden Celebration is much rarer, requiring a top 8 finish in a Masters Tour.
at least that's how I remember unlocking all of them :)
Solem, I hope this comment will reach you. So i started playing duels recently, I love combo decks so i picked rogue. In order to have the Hero power "connections", you are required to collect 10 darkmoon faire epic cards. I desenchanted some of my cards to craft epic cards for rogue and mage (the 2 classes i use most), so therefore i crafted 2 of each, and to my surprise the game doesnt count 2 identical epic cards as 2 cards, but as 1, the same happens if you craft an epic card, and then uncraft it, it removes it from the counter. There is a flaw in the text because it says "Collect darkmoon faire epic cards (10)", it doesnt say "collect 10 unique epic cards or own 10 epic cards". It just f'ed up my game rn because i dont have any dust left and im stuck with some cards that i wont use just to gain more wins in duels.
Technically copies of the Live Action Warcraft Movie come with codes for Medivh, weather or not they still work is up in the air, but he might still be obtainable that way.

I actually have TeSPA card back as well as an European. I remember barely that there was some kind of a loophole on TeSPA's website which allowed you to make an account and register yourself in any random university (had to be a real one) and you could claim the card back that way.
Interesting you talk about clientside skins since they were actually a thing up till uldum or so and got silently patched (only worked in an older directx version that they stopped supporting). There was a way to run a software that swapped any texture for another one of the same size when your gpu rendered the image (no game modifications --> not detectable). I used it back when exodia mage was still playable to give antonidas some pixel sunglasses and make sorc very deepfried but it was mostly used in a mod called nudestone (you can probably guess what that did). Manually editing the pictures and finding what assets to replace was a giant pain in the ass though.
I have all the card backs I want (96), including all of the Heroic ones, Rumble Runner, Candle King, Monster Hunter, Legend, etc...
But what I would like is for the random card back option to let me choose which card backs I want to be in the “random card back pool”.
I like the random card back option, but I mostly get card backs I don’t like when playing.
However, it is fun to open packs with random on for all.
It is trivial, I know, but I really would like that possibility.

I recently started playing the game again and i was sad to see that i can't get Kel Thuzad so i figured unlimited skins would be good for this game.
Another game i play, Smite, also had limmited time skins but now swapped over to the unlimited model.
This would mean that you can purchase the skin after the limited time period but you have to pay the full price of everything else you had to buy to get it. So this for example would make the pre-order portaits available to new players but at the same price of the pre-order bundle, without the packs ofcoarse.
Anyone that would want to spend a lot of money on a skin they like would have the option to do so while still giving poeple that were here when the skin released a huge bonus while blizz makes more money so everyone wins. I would probably get the KT skin like that if it was an option.

I got everything because of my completionist mindset but I don't mind if my stuff isn't exclusive. They made old card backs and heroes available again. Sure, go right ahead. I don't care about "exclusive". I just like to know I can choose whatever I want.

1:00 - I hate the exclusivity in pretty much everything. What's the point of having it if everyone can? Style. Sense of self. You can only choose one card back at a time. If everyone had everything, then everyone could pick one that they like the most and have some limited form of self-expression.
I hate the idea that people think it's better to have something just because others can't have it. It reeks of selfishness.
You could also get Thrill of Victory from the World Championship of 2018 in Amsterdam. So I guess you could get those by going to the World Championships
It would be good for everyone if some skins from the past come back. I remember the gratification of having the skin cthun again after losing my first account. I would like that everyone who loves skin could do it with money and after a while with game gold.

Tbh they could make the achievement points (yellow ones) used as currency for card backs. Maybe 2000-3000 points for a cardback. I'm pretty sure this is not gonna happen, they will stick to 500 gold just to screw people more.

Wow wod, bfa w3, ow, and sc2 collectors edition card backs. You did acknowledge the Samsung card but there was also the pc login, ios login and the android login card backs as well. It is also worthy to point out that the 2 card backs you get from tavern pass says it will be unavailable next expac. Ie the sideshow and val’kyr card backs. FINALLY the nemsy warlock skin from a irl fireside gathering which was later available for logging in due to covid.

I got the blue e-sports cardback after going to a IRL hearthstone competetion back in 2017. I think it was officially called a fireside, but I still rock that card back ever since doing that. Hope it helps :D
I FUCKING hate how preorder skins never return. I lost my 3 year on going job when the Elise bundle came out and by the time they released that expansion I couldn’t preorder. I now will concede every game vs Elise Druid in spite of not being able to buy that skin again

This has to be the first and last time I've seen the black temple (may 2014/ ranked season 2?) cardback being clicked on in a video. I've used the cardback since getting it and love the exclusivity of the older ranked cardback.

I got the power core card back by holding a playoff tournament back when they let innkeepers run them. (Before masters) All of the players that participated in the fireside event also got it as well. As of now I have no idea how.
I am playing since August of 2014. The game was quite fun(naxrammas was the only special?!), tavern brawls, arenas, climbing sick with decks like Windfury Shaman, Mech Mage, Face Hunter, Zoolock but when the expansions were more and more you were forced to place money to keep up for a free to play game. I did quit for some months and missed some cardbacks and still the game, to play in Standard isnt fun at all. Started playing Beta Battlegrounds but as it seems they force you to purchase the 20€/$ perks. Blizzard see us only as customers and not a community that needs to have fun through a free to play game.
Back when I played (which was from grand tournament up to around witchwood off and on) I only ever used 3-4 card backs in that entire time. Maybe that's just me but on a side note I have no idea why you're not allowed to set a card back for individual decks you make. That never made sense to me

I play a lot of elemental shaman and I really want both the Ungoro card backs. Especially the tar with the fossil in the middle.

I dont see any skin offers in shop (only limited tavern pass that has mage and shaman skins) but if seems i managed to snag tyrande when she was free there ^^

I think you can still get the maiev and lunara if you logged in once they relased I think the quest should be there although it also can be removed becaouse of new quest thing
I've been playing for about 2 years and I want Maiev and MechaJaraxxus so bad. Would gladly pay for them; they are much cooler than any of the other purchasable heroes IMO. Would like to get Rastakhan too.

I honestly don’t like the idea of “exclusive items” for either playing the game at a very specific time or purchasing something specific at a very specific time, I didn’t even know this game existed until over a year and a half ago which is when I started playing, all content in the game should be accesible to all players, whether they player 5 years ago, or just started yesterday, locked content that I never had a chance to obtain in the first place simply because I didn’t know the game even existed at no fault of mine is one of those little things that makes me not want to play, I was on deployment when the Aranna skin for DH was available and now I can’t get it unless it’s re-released, yes, I do believe that OG’s like Solem should be rewarded in some way for playing the game for so long with something like an OG card back or something similar, I still think that things like hero bundles being available for only about 1-2 weeks and then never seen again isn’t exactly fair especially since they can’t even be purchased with gold
A lot of HS is server side, that's why there is essentially no modding in the game as well. That's why you can't do the skin thing

Some of this exclusive product I think is ok but it really starts feeling like too much (even more that there is no way to trade them)
So my deck will never have a golden coin because I didnt want to pay 50$ for a blizzcon ticket that i cant attend just to have a golden sathrovarr and have a complete golden deck.... And now you can just buy a bunch of the best legendaries in premade decks for $40. They really take a crap on their player base quite often.
