I remember making the Jiffy Lemon Pudding Cakes. The cake batter was poured into the pan. Then the pudding mix in the POWDER form. Just plain hot water was then poured over it and then it was baked. As it baked, the cake rose to the top putting the pudding on the bottom. THAT’s the recipe I am looking for.
I love that you follow a recipe even when you are hesitant about it. I almost always follow a recipe the first time and then go on and tweak it at a later try. I'm going to try this lemon pudding cake!
Same here. I love to tweak recipes, but I usually go by the recipe first, to see what the intention of the original recipe is. Then I start tweaking. 😂. This lemon pudding cake is so good! Let me know how it turns out!!
A very similar recipe dating back to the Great Depression was made in Quebec Canada called Pouding Chomeur which translates from French to English as pudding of the unemployed man or poor man's pudding. Luckily as ingredients were scarce during these hard times few ingredients were needed for this recipe they were flour, brown sugar, baking powder, milk and eggs. This recipe is still made today and enjoyed in Quebec and other provinces of Canada However, we Canadians love our maple syrup so you will find altered versions of this recipe with maple syrup as well. RUclips has a couple of very good original recipes for this pudding cake if anyone wants to give it a try. 🙂
The maple syrup pudding cake is on my to do list!! There are so many wonderful versions of this cake. And it is similar to Pouding Chomeur!! Thank you so much for sharing.
I made it and it was terrific, so thank you! Easier than a version I had where I had to separate the eggs and beat them, etc. I subscribed hoping you might publish a butterscotch or strawberry version some day. 😊👍
I just read your history! I didn't know you put your page together from just Jan.10, 2023? My goodness! You will easily get a million subs! In just a short while! I never even thought as you? Being a NEW RUclips cooking show! I just love your channel even more now! ❤️ LaStoneGal ❤
I'm 64 and my mother would make this for me on my Birthday! Or Chocolate! I loved them both! It always made me feel special my mother would make a cake just for me, with those three other sisters always tagging around her too:)!
Just did it because it was the simpliest & essiest lemon Cake recipe I've seen. Wasn't expecting much. Got suprised😮. It's delicious! Made 12 squares, already ate 5. Have to hide it
This should be very good. I used to make this and also the chocolate one and the butterscotch one. All very good. Thumbs up. Grandma Sue in central Indiana
My mom made this at least once a week when I was young only she made it in a much larger pan enough to feed about 20 at a time an it is just a good without the nuts❤
I always found it easier to put the pan on the oven shelf and then pour the water onto the cake - less likely to spill while carrying the pan. (I think I must have learned to make this when I was very little). :)
My Mom would add a pudding mix to Dunkin Hines mix, it was all the rage in the 70s. Her cupcakes always sold out at tge Boy Scout bake sales! I will have to try this as a glutem free version, I love that it has no chemicals.
Gotta try this one also! TFS Renee, love your channel. Keep giving yourself those cardboard plaques for each subscriber milestone! You went from 100 to 1.93 thousand in a very short time!😊
Thank you for the kind words!! I'm having so much fun! I LOVE this lemon pudding cake. It is so well balanced and the taste is amazing!! Thank you for sharing!
Can you make an orange pudding cake. I know the orange flavor isn’t as strong as the lemon. Maybe use orange extract or double the zest. What do you think? Thank you.
Hi, I'm new here. Happenstanced to come across the Chocolate Pudding cake 1st. Was determined to make that...until, You mentioned a Lemon 🍋 One 🍋😋LOVE 🍋!!! Waiting on it to bake right Now 😊. You only baked it 30 mins, but to me it looked a 'little' burnt. So, just to be on the safe side, I did a Lil less. We shall see !!! Glad to find yr channel Am from NY . .State, Not City.
You are sooo funny! I saw you sweating and I could see that you were petrified when someone told you to put all that juice in there! Phew! It came out! Tooo funny! I love your channel! ❤ LaStoneGal ❤
@Kitchen in the Shire Julia Childs turned over a huge bottle of Sherry or Brandy? She was identical to you! She said," Oh? There goes the bottle? And oh? That was kind of expensive? " That was so funny! I have insomnia and I watch RUclips cooking channels like at 3:00 AM! Then I saw shows that had 1 million to over 3 million! And I found the formula on these! And from one gal who started out with a very tight shirt on with a major boob-job, and she's a fake! After a short time? She uses women's hands in cooking a few things? Then she tells all these men as, " MY loves! I am away preparing something of a surprise to you! But love you all!" 😍 And she's getting away with this! Ha! 1.58 million subs she has!
I'm not much of a cook but I gave it a try anyway. It came out great. I had to leave it in an hour for the top to brown up. It's definitely lemony and not too sweet. This recipe will go into my file. Thanks.
Thank you! I have several family members who are vegan, and I am always trying to figure out how to make any recipe that I am using into a vegan version. I find it easier than looking for vegan recipes. 😂 Thank you for the comments!
Hello, I'm a new subscriber, I'm from Switzerland, I have a question, could we change to another fruit, I would really appreciate it if you answered me❤❤❤
I'll bet you could come up with a good recipe with a pineapple upside down cake cake flavor. Use a butterscotch recipe, crushed pineapple, pecans and maraschino cherries! Grandma Sue in central Indiana

@@kitchenintheshire Thank you so much. I've printed out three pudding cake recipes and fully intend to try them. Your directions are easy to follow. Much appreciated!
I thought the same thing as I was pouring it in, but in my case, the pudding had the perfect consistency. I was actually shocked. Thank you for sharing.
Oh dear. I don't know if you've watched my video called "the pie crust that broke me", but I failed miserably in that one, so I completely understand how you feel. Thank you for sharing. I hope you try it again.

It is sooo good. I love the balance of the sugar and lemon in this recipe! Very zingy tasting. YUM!!!

I used parts of this recipe and made a peach pecan cake.....OMG!!!
Such a nice kitchen! I feel right at home.
The chocolate one was amazing, can't wait to try this one too

Thank you for these kind words. I love the laughter comment. Laughing is the best!
I do love making less self saucing puddings! My favourite is butterscotch, made using golden syrup. I make mine in a round casserole dish.
Oh I like the golden syrup idea! I almost made this in a round pan, but then went with the square. Next time!! Thank you for sharing!!
Will you put the recipe for the butterscotch one here, please? I love butterscotch and would love to try it!! :)
In New Zealand we call that pudding a Lemon Delicious

Yay!! I’m so glad you made it. It’s annoying that oven temperatures vary so wildly. Was the pudding still pudding after an hour?

Love this recipe but if you double it move to 9x13 pan!!! First time everyone loved it and was looking for more.
Did you use regular flour or cake flour?
Regular flour. I use King Arthur. I am not financially tied to them at all, but it is seriously the best flour around, Imho.
