This was my first model... A red and grey Matchbox that my brother gave to me as a gift in my birthday number five. 45 years later I have a room devoted to this wonderful hobby... Greetings from Chile🇨🇱
I serviced hundreds of piston and jet powered aircraft when I was a USAF fueler back in the '70s. Not one of them looked like it just rolled off the assembly line. I've also done some modeling in my time but none of it would compare with what this young man does. It all depends on the desire for realism.
@@npc6817 In this case, it's completely appropriate for the model to look immaculate; the 1930s RAF took great pride in the condition of it's biplane fighters which were always maintained in near factory fresh finish.
Dear Sir Doesn't matter how many times I watch this video I am mesmerised by the way the appearant sheer simplicity of the build masks such a high level of skill and ability. In truth there is no simplicity at all just raw talent carries all before it. It is such a joy to watch a true master at work Yours faithfully MrD53
I have very fond memories of this kit in its original form, it came in a plastic bag. I built this in 1965 or 1966, and was one of my first plastic kits. It's good to see it again, and built so well.
I made this model as a kid (before you were born!) and it looked like a kid had made it too! I don't even build model aircraft any more but always look forward to your videos. Superb work as always.
David, I love watching your videos. You sir are a talent. I would love to see you build a Top Fuel Dragster. the detail work you could put into the motor would be awesome. Keep bringing us great videos and models!!!!!
Hey David, could you explain (or maybe make a video) the difference between different glues and cements? Revell, Mr Cement, etc. You seem to use several in each model you make...
This was very helpful. Right now I am working on a P-47 Thunderbolt and I needed an example of how to weather Silver because my plane is mostly painted silver. Thanks for the video.
Christian Howarth wow thats quite a gap i used to listen to rammstein too i still do from time to time. Do you use the youtube copyright free songs for the videos?
The only person I've seen confident enough to mask and cut the canopy frames after putting the upper wing on. I hated doing that small canopy without it on.
Hi!! What surface do you tint with oil? Glossy or matt or semi-matte? Could you make a separate guide to aviation toning (including modern)? Its so missing on youtube ... good luck with other, your models is wery well!
Hey David! You have been keeping many of your tips and skills from us HA HA. Love the iron for the rigging! Kraznia ! I would love to try those ABL paints, they did a great job with panel lines and the weathering the wings. Thank you.
The gloster gladiator with those markings is currently on display at the shuttleworth collection in Bedfordshire in the uk its a great museum housing some of the rarest and most interesting aircraft in the world 5 stars from me
Very nice! I just finished building the Mk.II boxing of this in the Finnish colours. I haven't' seen that method for the wing ribs before, it looks great!
Amazing job and superb finish, specially on the rigging process. I'm surprised I didn't see any coat of sealer after painting or before washes. How you did it without damaging the paint job? Wow 👍
Hi David, you have excellent hands and patience, yesterday I bought this model, Durafly (PNF) Gloster Gladiator Mk1 Biplane Fighter EPO 1100 mm (43 ") is identical to yours, I wait for Christmas to try it out, I'm in love with this plane, greetings from Granada, Spain 🛩
I like that you said you don't reckommend this model for beginners. Many people will judge difficulty based on the complexity of the kit or the instructions, but some basic things like two wings can also add to the difficulty. I have been doing modelling for over 10 years (Might not sound much, but I'm 19) and I still haven't found a non painful way to do the two wings without messing up
One thing that would have really added to the overall looks of the airplane..... would have been if you took your airbrush and made exhaust streaks on the bottom side of the bottom wing from the engines exhaust pipes, just like it would be on the real plane. That would have brought it all together. You spent so much time on the wash, that one little touch would have just been beautiful.
I bought a four pack of 1/72 Airfix aircraft (A6M2b, Curtiss Hawk H-81A-2, Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a, and Bf109E-3)(four different dioramas with 1/350 & 1/200 B25’s, being attacked or escorted). I had initially bought & intended to use PE interiors, but then I realized that with the canopy closed & pilot seated, you’ll never see the cockpit detail through the crappy, wavy “glass”. Then I finally decided, since I’m shooting for a gold medal in dioramas, I started to go to town on the Zero. So, I’m sanding and polishing the canopies so you can actually see inside and I’m going to go ahead and execute an exercise in futility. I’m detailing the crap out of the cockpits (since the canopies are going to be crystal clear), removing and positioning the control surfaces, painting the insignia & markings, blurring the props, and chipping & weathering them all. Also the Zero will probably be just starting to explode in mid-air and the 109 will will have battle damage & smoking. Both are being shot at by B25’s hiding between the cloud layers. Anyway, at 1/72 I don’t blame you for just doing the bare minimum in the cockpit. I just hope I don’t regret putting in the effort to only just catch a minuscule glimpse of the interior. But hay, if I’m going to ask $400-$600 for the dioramas after the, hopefully gold medal, model show appearance/win, I need to pour my heart and soul into it. As expected, you produced yet another great build. And that’s a pretty cool trick with the soldering iron to tighten up the “cables”. I’ll have to remember that one when I get around to building the WWI dogfight diorama that I’d like to do some day. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips. 👍👍
how do you get super glue to work that good? I see people making videos doing rigging on painted surfaces and they just touch the rigging wire and boom! it holds! yeah that does not work like that for me.
Beautiful work as always, I like the voice-over in this one explaining what you're doing. What did you use to seal the decals before the enamel wash? or did you not seal them?
Thanks. I used old Mr. Mark Softer, but it doesn't matter because Gladiator has no panel lines. (old Mr. Mark Softer I mean without the NEO. The new one is useless)
Jako funguje, ale jen na některé obtisky. Už to není to co bývalo. Raději doporučuji levnější vodičky od agamy. Tensol nebo v krajní nouzi hypersol. Ten hypersol rozežere i podkladový lak :-D
plasmo please tell me - what glue do you use to avoid frosting on the clear parts! I have been using humbrol cleafix for years, but to be honest it is really thick and hard to work with, and not very strong in my experiences! - BTW amazing model
I've seen this actual aircraft up close. You have done a nice model of it but the ring around the engine is not as dark on the actual aircraft. Where did you source the rigging thread? I have not rigged the kit I made.
Hi David. Really nice model, even if in the biginning of the video it looked like a "fast build model" the way it turned out is cool af. Also I want to ask you a question - what do you think about "Zvezda" models? I can't remember if you ever did a video with one of their models, will look up for it after finishing comment :) So, what do you think about "Zvezda" and have you seen these models in your local model stores?

Realistic weathering is nice and all but sometimes you want some fresh off the factory feeling too.
Remember to especially in wartime aircraft were turned FAST! Little care was given adide from making the aircraft airworthy .

Amazing use of the soldering iron to tension the rigging. What a beautiful build you did here, well done!
What a stunning result you achieved on your Gladiator! Thank you for the great video showing every step of your build process. I enjoyed it immensely.
I have very fond memories of this kit in its original form, it came in a plastic bag. I built this in 1965 or 1966, and was one of my first plastic kits.
It's good to see it again, and built so well.
Peter Evens
This is a new tooled kit, not the original
Good to see airfix getting some recognition
10:11 when the super glue is dried up, i use black magic to adjust the wire length
I was really impressed with the wing wires and making them taught with heat. Your a Pro. Thanks for the video tips.
Awesome build as usual. The trick with the soldering iron on the rigging amazed me, I nearly fell off my chair.
Plasmo , я всегда поражаюсь твоей дотошности, как миниатюрные детали собираешь и клеишь на ногте. Very good ! ! !
Андрей,этот Плазмо судя по акценту не англичанин...Наверное,чех-у них качество работы явно выше западноевропейцев.
Very cool.... the matchbox comparison at he end was great. I often forget how small 1:72 really is! Thanks for posting
a great quick build . loved the way you did the rigging and panel lines
As always David, a fantastic build and video, thanks for sharing.
You make it look easy. I wish I had your skill. Really fun to watch an artist!
As always David, great project and video, thanks for sharing.
I made this model as a kid (before you were born!) and it looked like a kid had made it too! I don't even build model aircraft any more but always look forward to your videos. Superb work as always.
always a joy to watch your work
This is pure art! So addicting!!!!
Superb model and I really enjoyed your video putting it together. I cannot understand the 22 people that didn't like it.
Great music choice - better than the heavy metal, classical or eurodisco stuff you usually get on modelling videos
Very beautiful results. Wonderful craftsmanship. Bravo!
David, I love watching your videos. You sir are a talent. I would love to see you build a Top Fuel Dragster. the detail work you could put into the motor would be awesome.
Keep bringing us great videos and models!!!!!
Fantastic David - so the soldering iron shrinks the ringing - I've never seen that before - wonderful
I love the way you casually do stuff that I would slave hours over. You are a Maestro!
Really liked this build, particularly on your approach to rigging, it makes me more confident to tackle biplanes in the future using these techniques!
im enjoying the jazz... its a nice change from all the techno all model makers play
That's art work right there, beautiful job.
Terrific quick build. Beautiful.
Brilliant build of a beautiful little fighter. Very well done!
Always a top quality video. The detail is amazing. I even like the music.
Hey David, could you explain (or maybe make a video) the difference between different glues and cements? Revell, Mr Cement, etc. You seem to use several in each model you make...
really a work of art, well done.
I love your vids, I have been modeling for a few years now and I am learning alot from you. Please Keep up the good work.
As usual; just wonderful! I always enjoy your videos.
As always another excellent video 👍🏻
hello david. its one of my favorite of your videos just because of the music. damn thats relaxing to watch. love your stuff
Superb, as usual. You're the man plasmo!
I like the jazz, makes the video very classy
Excellent build for such a small model. Nice work!
This was very helpful. Right now I am working on a P-47 Thunderbolt and I needed an example of how to weather Silver because my plane is mostly painted silver. Thanks for the video.
Great music. Fantastic build.
Thanks. Music is almost random. I do not know what people like. I personally listen to Rammstein or classical music.
Christian Howarth wow thats quite a gap i used to listen to rammstein too i still do from time to time. Do you use the youtube copyright free songs for the videos?
No anymore. I pay every month for music from the Epidemic sound. It is not much, and they are offering thousands great tracks for youtube videos.
Excellent work. Beautiful model.
Wow, you do such a good job. I thought I was being clever as a kid by heating a pin and making bullet holes in the fuselage
Wow that's a great way to tighten the rigging wires never seen that before
Добрый вечер. Давно ждал от Вас видео, очень порадовали. Отличная модель, хорошая сборка. Поздравляю с удачным проектом.
The only person I've seen confident enough to mask and cut the canopy frames after putting the upper wing on. I hated doing that small canopy without it on.
Plasmo, you add weathering to everything
I swear if you make a dog you'll add weathering to it
actually, my full name is: David Weathering Damek :-D
You didn't weather the propeller and wheels this time :-/
lol you are a legend
i dont mind the heavier weathering. everyone's personal preference tho
Hi!! What surface do you tint with oil? Glossy or matt or semi-matte? Could you make a separate guide to aviation toning (including modern)? Its so missing on youtube ...

Brilliant work, another piece of art!
very well made video as well!
keep up the good work!
thanks

trusted Glad looks awesome, makes me want to take it for a fly-out in Warthunder :-) great background music as usual, kudos!
Looks great, as always!
Another great video....beautiful work good buddy....and excellent music too! 👍👌👏
Yet again you have amazed me
Maravilloso trabajo!!
Very nice! I just finished building the Mk.II boxing of this in the Finnish colours. I haven't' seen that method for the wing ribs before, it looks great!
The soldering iron for the wires was a good tip that I have never heard before, I will use it.
Yes, that was excellent!
how does it tension them. im confused, just putting heat on the wires shrinks them?
@@ooDirtyMickoo Correct, they shrink due to the localised heat.
Nicely done Plasmo
Koukam ted na tohle video a za ty dva roky jsi udelal neuveritelny pokrok jak v modelarine tak v anglictine . Well done!
Superb model - superb video.
Amazing job and superb finish, specially on the rigging process. I'm surprised I didn't see any coat of sealer after painting or before washes. How you did it without damaging the paint job? Wow 👍
Excellent detail!
Have you ever made the Red Barons Fokker Dr.1? And I haven't watched far into it but I already know it will be a quality video. keep it up.
No, but I ordered yesterday Albatros D.III 1/48.

Wow. Airfix really went to town on the re-tool.
great build, but why didn't you mask the canopy before you attached it? would have been easier?
beautifully done !
cool that you do more standard kits that is not only for super professional people. want it more. #like
Me too.
True artist!
the man has skills! nice job.
very nice work
Hallo. Did you put oil weathering directly on the acrylic painted surface without any clear varnish over it?
It's very beautiful, David!

Stunning!
when you mixed your Mr surface 1000, what was your mixing ratio with thinner? Whit did you use for thinner?
