Now that's EXACTLY the way to present a PS tutorial. Many others who make such videos, please take note! Precise, concise and easy to follow at a sensible pace! Thank you!
Hey guys, the editable PSD file is available for purchase for $7 on the website for those who don't feel like going through the tutorial: www.madebymighty.space/downloads/ (This is NOT required to complete the tutorial, it's simply an alternative for those who would rather buy the product to save time or effort.) Cheers everyone! :)
Hi Joseph, unfortunately the logo is custom lettering so it's not a font. However, there are some fonts that are in the same style out there. The ones I use I had to purchase but I'm sure you can find free fonts in a similar style. I hope this helps. Cheers!
Thank you! :) Yeah so you can use different colours instead of the variations of grey for sure. Just keep in mind that your shadows and highlights should be coloured as well and not just black / white. For instance, If you have an orange background make sure your shadows have a bit of dark orange maybe some red in them and that your highlights have some light orange and maybe a bit of yellow in them. This will make for a more realistic look. The is the dosage of colours try and experiment a bit with them. I hope this helps! Cheers!
Made by Mighty Hey, I have a question about the drop shadow. I'm interested in your file but I'd like to try it myself first, so the text should be nudged up to make one angle, and every time the guassian blur should be changed and then a new text should be added until there are 20 separate layers?
Yeah, for the shadow I would nudge it down and left keeping the same angle every time (if your light source is coming from the top right like in the video). And then gradually increase the blur value and reduce the opacity. It's a bit hard to explain in a comment but I hope you get the idea :) Let me know if you need better explanations. Cheers!
This was a great video, except when you got to the actual technique you used to create the shadowing effect, you said it would be boring to see how to do it. Boring or not, your technique makes the font look realistic. I would have preferred to be shown a tedious technique to get an amazing effect, instead of just a file to make the shadow technique for me. What I don't know is: what angles did you use? What Gaussian settings did you use? How many layers does it take to make the effect? You handed me a fish instead of teaching me to fish. I'm not ungrateful for the fish, but the knowledge of how to catch it myself was what I was seeking.
@@joshaceves122 I actually used this as my time to practice feeling it out for myself. I have a set color for my font, so I changed the shadow to be the same color but much much darker(almost black). I then added the Gaussian blur(the same blur for each layer) and self-moved each layer into place. It's good to have tutorials like this, but you also want to be able to teach yourself how to catch a fish even if you haven't seen it done before. Might not be perfect the first time, but it gets better with practice '' '
This video is absolutely fantastic. Seriously. There's not a lot of people doing nice, very well explained Photoshop tutorials like this. Complete 10/10 And also, Thank you.
I have followed your tutorial and it resulted almost great. There was just an imperfection that I cannot figure out the reason. Wish there was a way to show it.
Though i am not professional like you but i try this and after few attempts finally done it. ( i used it as my channel banner :) ) Thanks a lot this is awesome tutorial. Very well explained with all details.
@@iztinabrrafi4954 I guess you want cast-shadow file used by the uploader , whats your mail. If you need my project .psd file where i used this technique let me know that too. As my project file is quiet large to sent over mail ( i have to upload somewhere else, i will mail the link)
I realize this is an older tutorial, but for the background why didn’t you? Layer>Create Gradient Layer [dither on] Checking dither should remove the banding. This seems like somewhat extra steps to achieve a gradient without banding.
Hey mighty! This is the 2nd tutorial from you that I have watched and their easy to follow and great edit techniques to use. I did have the same question for this and another. For some reason my holding SHIFT and pressing down and left doesn't allow me to 'nudge' and I am working on a PC, any thoughts on this?
Thank you for your feedback! 😊 If you just move your layer by pressing the arrow keys (without holding Shift) does that work? It will move 1px at a time so it won't too obvious but if you press it a few times, does it move? I'll try and figure out why it's not working. Cheers!
For all the people that say the file wont open up in Photoshop, just unzip it, place the file on your desktop, and then go back to photoshop - File - Open - and open the cast shadow file.
ok, I tied to use it but when I double click on it, it say some text layers contain fonts that are missing. these layers will need to have the missing fonts replaced before they can be used for the vector-based output .... any ideas
Thanks for a great tutorial, although I never managed to quite reach the same effect. Is there a way to achieve a similar result but with the shadow inside so it looks like 3d text cut into the layer background colour, maybe showing another layer below?
Hey I know this is an old video so I don’t know if you will respond but what font is this?? It’s so clean I would love to use it. Thanks! Your video really helped me a lot.
Hi! I saw your tutorial and you don't know how much you save my life! I have a question: can you suggest a similar font from your logo? That ispired me so much for a school work but I don't know where to look. Thanks! Ps sorry for my bad english but I'm italian and I'm studying this language. Thank you so much for your tutorials!
Thank you for your comment man! I'm trying to follow along and I've gotten to the point where we are doing the custom text. You say to double click on it and when I do I get an error that says "Some text layers contain fonts that are missing. These layers will need to have the missing fonts replaced before they can be used for vector based output." So do you happen to know what fonts those would be. After it says that it brings up the "cas shadow" but won't let me drag my other screen onto it at all. So I'm kind of stuck at this point at the cast shadow part.
Your unselfish illustration is truly appreciated ... Unfortunately some movements (what you did next, or where you positioned the cursor) were not perfectly clearn ??? ... For whatever unknown reason, your tutorial has an echo affect (I'm in a cave and getting reverberations; which is too bad but the logo, without a doubt, is fantastic !!!
So I followed this exactly, but the issue I'm having is that my gausian blur on the text copy layer is not adding white highlights, but rather black ones making it look like outlined text. Anyone know why this may be? Thanks in advanced
Awesome tutorial! I just built out my own file and it looks great. Is there a simple way to inverse this look? I'd love it to be black (dark grey) background and type with the effect looking like light hitting it instead of shadow. Make sense? Thanks again!
Hi! So there's a super quick way to do it. Basically, once your piece is done, save a .jpg. Then open that .jpg in photoshop and press Cmd+I (or Ctrl+I on PC) This will invert the colors and make the whole piece black / charcoal. However, you might have some levels adjustments and you might see some screen banding in the gradient. Another way, is to just make your starting BG color a dark charcoal color and same with your base text color. You'll have to adjust the shadow and lighting intensity to fit with the darker environment. I hope this helps, cheers!
idk literally lost you after the rectangular tool because I never get a new layer when the rectangular toll is used. I still on have the original locked layer visible, so for me this didn't work for me. Maybe your over videos may help. than you

Amazing tutorial
Can someone tell me the name of the font used in this tutorial PLEASE?
it looks hand lettered to me, almost no logos use a standard font
beyond the mountains font
@@EvatheDiva00 A lot of logos use standard fonts (often modifying them). There are countless examples of Helvetica logos out there.
Use the MOTION BLUR to fix that gradient problem with color strips (with the motion perpendicular to the strips).
I'll check that out, thanks ;)
