I made an automated PSD file which is for sale on the website for $4 if you don't want to go through the tutorial. You can basically just type in your text and the effect will apply itself. www.madebymighty.space/downloads/ I hope this helps, cheers! :)
Few tutorials of photoshop just are good until you are watching them. Once you start doing your own work, it will be proven not less than a nightmare. By the way, good job, sir!
Great tutorial! Would be super helpful if you sometimes explained what the different choices you make does. For example: "Then you change blend mode to screen because this enables...." and so on. Either way, awesome job!
I absolutely agree, looking back I wish I explained the reasoning in greater details. This is something I am keeping in mind for the upcoming videos. Thank you for your feedback! Cheers mate! :)
Solberg Music If you don't know what the screen mode is for may be you should watch tutorials for beginners? Other peope just don't like too long tutorials where every step is explained.
Agree with Solberg. This is definitely more of a "follow along with me" tutorial than a "let me teach you something" tutorial. I personally prefer to learn the "why" 'cause it helps with memory and is better for customizing a technique for my own work. This just feels like copying someone else's work. For instance, why -145 degrees? Why not just change the global light instead of unchecking? Why is Satin set to 45 and not -145? What happens if I need to change the lighting direction to match a composited photograph and how does that relate to the Satin angle? Why duplicate all these shadow layers instead of playing with the Bevel effect's opacity? But this is a really cool technique so thanks to the artist for sharing his process! I'll have to try this for myself soon and see if I can figure out the "whys" on my own.
Navy Sisomphou for the global light if you dont uncheck it you'll have the same source of light for all your layers resulting for a uniform shadow and the image will be flat. He wants different light source/shadow for the text to pop out to make that paper effect.
looks really good. I think it would be even better if you explain your thinking process with all the light work (which in my opinion would be the main things making the magic!), and how overlay or soft light could have a different looks. Just my two cents. Your video is great no matter what, clear picture and just the right pace for me to follow. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your feedback, it's really appreciated! I totally agree with you btw and looking back I wish I would have been deeper in the reasoning of every step. I will definitely keep this in mind for the upcoming tutorials. Cheers!
Me at 16:11 - "hmm this doesn't really look like a paper cutout..." Me at 16:13 - "WOW that was incredible, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen!!"
I think it's a great idea to do it the real tangible way but I don't know if it's quicker. Between outlining the letter shapes on the paper, cutting all the letters, shooting, photoshop post production.. it can be a bit time consuming, but really fun :) It's worth giving it a shot to see how long it takes and I kinda want to try it now :P
For those of you confused at 12:06 regarding adding the inner shadow, you need to first select the Move arrow option in the left selection panel (looks like a cross with arrow heads on the end of each line) and then press the alt/cmd key and then the down arrow to nudge it down, alt/cmd key and then the left arrow to nudge it left. If you just press the down arrow and the left arrow it will do nothing.
That nudge thing doesn't work in cc 2019 so that whole step I wasn't able to do. As a result my logo didn't come out like yours at all. Can you do an update?
To be honest, I'm stuck at the same part - yes you can nudge it but CC 2019 doesn't seem to like keeping the blending modes going once it hits the masked layer mode. o_Oa Any idea how to change this?
If youre still wondering, I ended up just doing an inner bevel, 100% depth, 2 px for size, 8 for soften, 45 degree angle, 30 degree altitude and a multiply highlight at 70% I'm working with a darker under color, so my opacity is at 70%, adjust for what looks good, and i put the shadow at 0%
This is a CS6 tutorial, if you have CC they have changed a few things that can cause some differences between the tutorial and our updated versions of CC. I’m looking into if there’s an updated version or if there’s a couple work arounds in some steps (trying this tonight)
i didn't know what happen, so i watched 12:17 again again again. finally i got it. press ALT and click upper layer's 'below border line'! i'm not good at english, but i hope to be help.
Yeah 3D is definitely another good way to go about it. But to be honest I'm not sure how I would achieve the "curved edges" effect in the paper cutout using the Photoshop 3D features or even C4D. Then again I'm not the biggest 3D guy out there so if you do know how to replicate this with 3D definitely share it man I would love to know. Cheers!
Just finished it right now. Tagged you on instagram. At first I was so disappointed because I did every step you did and it didn't look like it's changing. But I kept going thinking it would turn out good. It didn't. Until I realized I turned off some of the effect layers. And when I turned them back on it was even more magical. Thanks a lot!
I'm lost. I don't have a text that's been created via Illustrator so I created a text using one of the fonts on photoshop. Whenever I try to do the Bevel and Emboss nothing is effecting the font. It doesn't add shadows or anything
Hi! I was having the same problem and tried what you said but it keeps giving an error and saying the text layer is using a false bold style. I don't know what that means, and I tried various different fonts and it give giving the same message :/
I managed to solve this! If you click on the character tab (it looks like 'A|' ) with your text layer selected, the bold T might be selected automatically! If you deselect it you should be able to convert the text to shape fine!
im at around 15:43 and i cant seem to bring up the fill menu. I pressed the shift + delete but it says "could not complete the cut command because the selected area is empty." what do i do?
Make sure you use the fill on the new layer you created and not on the "Lettering" one which is a smart object. Also if the Shift + delete shortcut doesn't work try going to Edit (in the top menu) and select "Fill". Let me know if this works for you. Cheers!

Haha I hear you, I have an editable PSD for sale for $4 on the website. You can basically just type in whatever you want and the effect will automatically apply itself to the text. I hope this helps 😊
but can you help saving those $4 :P actually i am from india, i don't have international debit or credit card. i followed the tutorial and got the results.. but i am still confused how to make it a template.. please help

I love how open to feedback you are! I'm super new to photoshop so I'm looking forward to videos where you explain the 'why' a little more. thanks for making these!
Hey guys, the editable PSD file is available for purchase for $7 on the website for those who don't feel like going through the tutorial: www.madebymighty.space/downloads/ (This is NOT required to complete the tutorial, it's simply an alternative for those who would rather buy the product to save time or effort.) Cheers everyone! :)
Seconding what Vanessa said. Can you please leave steps on how to edit the text? The text is in the form of a smart object, so I'm not sure how to apply it to new text without just going through all the steps again.
I came across your channel accidentally n find it very interesting. Excellent idea to create paper cut out text but I find it very legthy n time consuming process. Thanks with warm regards,
New sub. Absolutely will recommend this video to a friend working with Photoshop. I did work with Photoshop before, but I'm not practicing enough. Great video!
I'm a novice and have been trying to fiddle around with photo shop to challenge my skill set. Can I just say, I was following along, but my finished product came out a little differently because my application had different presets on the shadows. Thusly, when I layered a few (many) times the final product slightly resembles an antiquated barbie commercial with very harsh white shadows (this is also contributed by me not using a robust enough font) haha! It looks really silly and I honestly wish I could share it with you all because it truly is something of a remarkable failure hahaha. I'll need to start over, but I just thought I should share my journey while attempting to follow along. Thank you for making this video, I appreciate the guidance. It was fun!
Hahah thank you for sharing this 😊 To be fair, it's not the simplest tutorial to follow I tried to be as concise as possible but there are so many values to put in, I get why it might be a bit overwhelming. Keep at it, if you need help with specific parts let me know, I'll be glad to help. Cheers!
wow.... I did it! It works perfectly and the result is super adorable. This tutorial is so powerful! You are the MIGHTY of photoshop text effects!! Thank you! I have problems finding other color combinations on my own, though
Awesome! Make sure to tag me if you share your work on Instagram :) For color combinations you can check out sites like coolors.co/ for inspiration. Cheers!
Wow, like magic happening right before my eyes!
Haha thanks for your comment! Cheers!
well said @laceincission88
laceincision88 Right this is magic

GOD OF BLENDING MODE !
Hahaha thanks for your comment! :D
TRU
A lot of work into something so simple. People should appreciate this more damn.
Great tutorial! Would be super helpful if you sometimes explained what the different choices you make does.

he does it so you cannot edit/make shit yourself. If you could do it yourself people wouldnt buy is $5 PSD files. its intentional.
Agree with Solberg. This is definitely more of a "follow along with me" tutorial than a "let me teach you something" tutorial. Same here
As a seasoned PS user.... holy moley you are the God of layer effects, had no idea you could do the stuff in this tutorial
Hahaha thank you! :) There a lot of messing around and trial and error involved :P Thank you for your comment! Cheers!
took long enough for yt to recommend this to me. I WON'T FORGET
I was being skeptical that you were gonna get it right until the very last effect you applied. Great job!
Thanks man! I'm glad you stuck around till the end :) Cheers!
so much god dam work... I felt mentally tired after watching this process. Gud work dud!
Yeah I hear you :/ I know it can get a bit tedious but I hope it was worth it :P Cheers mate!
Have no idea what I'm watching, but the result amazes!
Hahaha thanks man! :P Are you familiar with Photoshop even a little ?
Result is clean and beautiful. Thank you)
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!
the tone and control of ur voice says "I know my sNice tutorialt!". Good stuff buddy.
Me at 16:11 - "hmm this doesn't really look like a paper cutout..."
Me at 16:13 - "WOW that was incredible, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen!!"
Hahaha awesome I'm glad you're satisfied with the end result :) Cheers!
Until the moment he said "And thats it guys" i thought it was going to look terrible.
Such a cool effect. I will have to watch this a few more times before I get it just right.
Thank you for the comment! Can't wait to see the result! :) Cheers!
awesome tuts man! thanks
I'm glad you like it man, thanks for the comment!
that last layer changed the whole perspective..awesome man
Hahah yeah that last step really makes the whole thing pop :P Cheers man!
I don't even have photoshop and I'm watching this.
Hahah thank you for watching! :D
바보하기마 same 😹
next level dunno what to do lol
have you ever heard DIY anything; your not the only one...you never know when you need to design a complex but extraordinary paper cut "effect"
I dont have Photoshop either, but i want it
This is design magic, you sir are a wizard!
Hahah thank you so much for your comment! :)
Wouldn't it be easier and quicker to actually cut out paper letters, take a photo of it and then maybe put in photoshop?
I think it's a great idea to do it the real tangible way but I don't know if it's quicker. Between outlining the letter shapes on the paper, cutting all the letters, shooting, photoshop post production.. it can be a bit time consuming, but really fun :) It's worth giving it a shot to see how long it takes and I kinda want to try it now :P
Definetly not! And the result wouldn't be so clean.
ain't nobody got time for that! and cleaner lines. lol
No easier, but certainly more hipster. Which is good, or bad depending on your attitude to hipsters.
This is a really great tutorial! Not too fast nor slow. And you take the time to show what you're doing! Thank you!
Thank you for the feedback it's super appreciated! :) Cheers!
Thanks!
Thanks
Crystal clear explanation one more time.thanks man....
amazing!
Thank you!
Thank you so much. I practice this video 5 times.
Fantastic video in all aspects. Great job.
Thank you! :)
Woah - great narration and the effect is beautiful!
Thanks man I appreciate the feedback! :)
That nudge thing doesn't work in cc 2019 so that whole step I wasn't able to do. As a result my logo didn't come out like yours at all. Can you do an update?
nudge is just moving the whole layer using the arrow keys. Make sure that you click on the move tool to do so.
To be honest, I'm stuck at the same part - yes you can nudge it but CC 2019 doesn't seem to like keeping the blending modes going once it hits the masked layer mode. o_Oa Any idea how to change this?
@@LapresOfficial Did anyone made it? I'm having the same problem

Thank you very much. It was such a pleasure go along with it! I'm lookin forward to your videos
15:40 Shift + Delete wasn't working for me so I checked on Google and the fill menu shortcut in my computer is Shift + F5. Thanks for the video :))
Thank you sooo much!
Thank you so much. You saved my life.
Just blown me away like nothing before in Photoshop tutorials

Some of the tedious works I have ever watched. Thanks man !!!
Thank you for your comment man, I appreciate it! Cheers!!
very nice! but I'm a lazy cheat and do this in 3d with lights ;)
Cheers!
you are right, it requires true modeling and/or some intricate mapping
Yeah this goes way beyond my skill level when it comes to 3D haha!
#Thuglife ......lol
urbanrunoff show me how this was to hard to long
Just finished it right now. Tagged you on instagram. At first I was so disappointed because I did every step you did and it didn't look like it's changing. @MeTheUnicorn yeah right on, this is something I should have mentioned in the video. Cheers to the both of you! :)

Really Impressed Made By Mighty team. It's looks like magic... It was easy to do with your instructions... Thanks MADE BY MIGHTY
Thank you, it's quite appreciated! :)
Helpful tips, thanks for sharing ^_^.
It'll be much better if the bg music was toned down a bit so I can hear your voice much clearer.
I'll keep that in mind for future videos, thanks for your input man. Cheers!

How appropriate :P

Thanks a lot man! :)
OF COURSEE!!! ITS THE TRUTH!! 🙌😇😄
I got lost on min 12:08 . Is there another way to do that part?
Hi Anastasia, another way to do it select the top layer > right click on it > Select "Create Clipping Mask". I hope this helps. Cheers!
thank you so much!
I love your vids!
Anytime! Thanks for your comment!
that is also my problem, when i tried to right click the upper layer, the clipping mask is not highlighted.. pls help me sir mighty..
i got lost at the same part. so happy someone asked and you responded!
This works. Recommended to try this out. Thanks a lot for your help
having a hard time doing the clipping mask from the upper layer to underneath layer..from the time interval between 12:14 onward, i click and hold on the alt button but the arrow sign wont appear. im using cs6. i tried the clipping mask manually but it not highlighted..
Ok instead try selecting the top layer, then go to “Layer” (in the menu bar) and select "Create Clipping Mask". Let me know if this works. Cheers!
Sir i also tried that but the 'clipping mask' is not highlighted also.. i really wanted to finish this project hehe..
Ur paper cut effect is perfect compare to other edits i found in youtube.. dont understand why the clipping mask is not working, i follow each and every step in ur tuts..
Hi, can you send me a screenshot of your workspace including your layer palette so I can try and figure it out? mighty.lettering@gmail.com Cheers!
Sir i already sent you thru email my screenshots regarding the clipping mask problem, ty you accommodating our concerns..
It´s amazing all this beautiful work. You made this seem so easy but its actually a very precise and patient work. Admirable ! will try it out definetly
I'm too lazy for this. Can you make this a template?
Haha I hear you, I have an editable PSD for sale for $4 on the website. You can basically just type in whatever you want and the effect will automatically apply itself to the text. I hope this helps 😊
but can you help saving those $4 :P actually i am from india, i don't have international debit or credit card. i followed the tutorial and got the results.. but i am still confused how to make it a template.. please help
I can't give away the PSD file but if you send me an e-mail I try and explain how to make it a template. My e-mail is in the video description. Cheers!
really enjoyed doing this one. thanks so much!
"The pattern file is bad or corrupted."
you have great observation and deliberately brought it into photoshop with blending mod. coooool. thanks for this amazing tutorial
i tried following but i got lost on the way
Yeah it can get a bit confusing :/ Let me know if you need help with a specific part, cheers!
I´m so impress! and I really appreciate what u are teaching us but I have to admit that I was almost asleep because of the music and your voice.
Even that, THANK U so much!
Yeah I agree, my voice tends to naturally sound a bit monotone which I have to work on. I also need to figure out a better balance between the music and my voice. Thank you for your feedback, I appreciate it! Cheers!
It is not the effect that people love. Its the combi of colors. Love pink and ice blue.
I love how open to feedback you are! I'm super new to photoshop so I'm looking forward to videos where you explain the 'why' a little more. thanks for making these!
why does the down and left arrow doesn't work on mine?
You need to be in the Move Tool! :) (black arrow)
You're the best Teresa!
@@Teresa-tx7uw Yes ! Double thank you very much ☺🙏
I had to blink so many times at the end as it transformed from digital to paper-cut out. That is impressive!
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Thanks for dropping a comment!
Tooo lenghty process i just did it by using drop shadow and inner stroke 😆😆😂😂
Hey guys, the editable PSD file is available for purchase for $7 on the website for those who don't feel like going through the tutorial: www.madebymighty.space/downloads/
(This is NOT required to complete the tutorial, it's simply an alternative for those who would rather buy the product to save time or effort.)
Cheers everyone! :)
DO YOU MIND LEAVING THE STEPS ON HOW TO EDIT THE TEXT ONCE WE DOWNLOAD THE FILE
Great business model. I'm happy to pay to have this done, though I should learn it. Thanks so much!
Seconding what Vanessa said. Can you please leave steps on how to edit the text? The text is in the form of a smart object, so I'm not sure how to apply it to new text without just going through all the steps again.
Double click on the smart object layer. A new tab will open and you can edit it. Save and close, and it will update in the original file.
If I follow the steps and make this will i get copyrighted if i post this on Facebook??
I feel 10x more confident in soft soft, thanks!
