IMPORTANT: If you get an error message that states "the path is too complex", this is not uncommon. I've read that it could be related to memory or your video card. Adobe has stated that this especially a common problem with MacBook Air and Mac Pro.
* 3D works only in CS5(6) EXTENDED and later.
* Windows XP does not support 3D.
* Video card must be capable of driving 3D.
* Graphics processor needs to be enabled.
* Go to Image, Mode, RGB Color, 8Bits/Channel

I got stuck on setting up the 3D….but I knew my Mac was perfect for the job. Opened the file before making the proper 3D setting. In case others are stuck

Hi Marty, I really enjoyed doing this one. Is there a chance you could do a tutorial featuring 3D text coming out of a cliff on an angle. Think Monty Python Holy Grail type text but just coming out of a rockface.

I've done many. Go to my RUclips channel & click on the magnifying glass icon (next to “About”). In the “Search Channel” field, type in, “3D”.
Very clear and informative. After slogging through 5-6 of these it was refreshing to find one that left nothing to chance.

Yes.
Let's say I want to create several of these, and only want to change what the text says. Is there a way to do that, or do I need to start from scratch each time?
Yes. By converting your text into a Smart Object, you'll be able to replace the text without having to redo the effects.

Hi Martin, I have trial version 2015, Image/Mode is in RGB color and 8 bits but in the View/show the options of 3d are not available. Could you helpl me please thanks?

Hi. Your tutorials are great but I'm using laptop and I got stuck in coordinates measurement. Your using inches and I don't know what measurement I am using cause the results is different from yours.

I just checked the link in the video's description. It downloads the Photoshop template perfectly. The metal texture is a layer in the template.
Hello Sir, I am using Photoshop cs6 and I was learning from your tutorial when I got stuck already in the part where we have to select 3D from preferences but I cannot find the 3D option. Is there something wrong with the file or my version of Photoshop.
CS6 must be the EXTENDED version to have 3D. Please read the info in my video's description.

What the saving the layer as a JPEG does? I never knew you can do that.
If you want to save the final image, saving it as jpg uses a fraction of its PSD document size.
The texture on the sides of the Text looks too "stretchy". Too much detail get lost in my opinion.
I agree with you. Hopefully, Adobe will correct that in a future version.
Hi Marty, for CS6 text disappeared right after merge 3D layers and how to change the units of the settings to inches. Thank you.
Your text layer is there, but it's behind the background in 3D space.
It seems impossible for me to move/align the text by adjusting Coordinate... by moving to the left and right...it is just not moving...

I'm using PS CC 2018 (19.1.6 release), an HP 750-150, with a NVIDA GeForceGTX 960 video card, Windows 10 latest updates. When I go to View>Show my top four 3D options are greyed out. Any suggestions? Look like a great project.
Go to Image > Mode > RGB color, 8 bits/Channel.
Thanks for reply. Image mode already had those setting, BUT for whatever reason, I was able to complete this great tutorial with those option greyed out and not checked. Go figure.
Same thing happened to me. Image mode also had those settings already too. I just moved on to the next step and after creating the 3D layer they appeared all ticked when I checked. Didn't notice too much difference to the final outcome...
at 2:51, you say to go to View, Show and click on the 3D elements. I have CS6 Extended and mine are ghosted. Do you have any idea why that might be? Right now I'm dead in the water unless I can find a way to make the 3D elements work.

I'm dead in the water @ 6:14, when trying to Merge my 3D Text with Background because the "Merge 3D layers is Grayed out

@@BLTV_Photoshop Same issue here and the "Merge 3D Layers" is still grayed out after the Mode was checked (it was BGB/8). I've saved the file and reopened it to no avail.
@@BLTV_Photoshop AH! Found the mistake. Make sure the background layer is a 3D layer: 3D > New Mesh From Layer > Postcard
