Dude, seriously... Not sure if it was quite my first, but it was absolutely one of the first I remember, so it had to be one of the first few. Even today, I'm impressed how good they made this game look! I get there's a lot of tricks going on to do that, sort of like how Donkey Kong used high quality renders as a static background image I think... But man, it's really something.
The fact that this game still looks decent, and playable, on a modern 1080p display, using the Gameboy Player with an HDMI/GC Video Gamecube shows how talented these guys are. How they managed this on the Gameboy Advance I have no idea. The DS should be struggling with these graphics. I swear it almost looks like a 3DS game. I've seen 3DS games that don't look as good as this. And this was a GBA launch title.
The trick is there no real-time 3D effects. All the moving objects in the game are pre-rendered sprites, and the backgrounds are short looping pre-rendered animations.
@@mypkamax Yes and no...some of the members of Abyss are there, but it's not like the demoscene group just changed its name. Fun fact: Shin'en is Japanese for Abyss, a reference to their demoscene origins.
The cool thing is how Shin'en pushes all of Nintendo's other systems as well. Their other shumps like Nanostray on the DS has plentiful real-time 3D at 60fps and Nano Assault on the 3DS makes a lot of bump/normal mapping use which was very uncommon on the system.
This game was a gem of its time!, I remember spending countless hours trying to beat this game as a kid. Can’t belie how well it still looks compared to newer genre titles. It’s aged very well compared to most. The soundtrack was great too!.
I was gifted this game on Christmas Day I think in 03 or 04! I was was 7 or 8. It was gifted also with the gameboy advance. The older Christmas’ were the best, imagine my nostalgia!!!
My mother got me the Gameboy Advance the day it came out, and this game, F-Zero: Maximum Velocity and Super Mario 2 were the first 3 games she got with it. But my father smashed my copy of Iridion. Out of all the games I had on GBA I wanted to see the ending of this game so badly, my 7 year old brain wasn't able to handle it the Iridion Prime stage. Thank you, for putting a 20 year old curiosity of mine to rest. I thought I would never see the day. This video is priceless to me.
I had this game way back in my early middle school years. Love this more than the sequel. It's like Space Harrier but modernized with a kickin soundtrack and fluid gameplay. GBA is one of the greatest platforms of all time.
If anyone’s interested, they made a few successors to this game and BY FAR the best one is Nano Assault EX on the 3DS’s eShop. They carried on their tradition of stunning graphics, and Nano Assault EX has Xbox360-level graphics, despite running on a 2011 handheld. Very beautiful game.
Shin'en's Iridion 3D started life as a Game Boy Color project before turning into a GBA game. Same situations go for Crawfish's Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2 and Pocket's Lego Racers 2.
This game brings back weird feelings in me... I remember playing it a lot, but I don't think it was because I liked it. I think I felt compelled to play it as one of my only GBA games. So weird, I have a really uneasy feeling watching it again.
This game looks amazing (but I prefer gameplay wise on Iridion 2). Shinen are democoder gamedevs and they made later games on other Nintendo consoles, all very technically impressive.
This looks like a StarFox! Imagine this with StarFox Characters. It would be a Beast Game for GBA. So sad nintendo never came up with that idea! So, so sad!
The perspective didn't really work because you would block your own visibility, Aiming was tough because you're looking down a giant funnel, And power ups were extremely rare and stingy. But at least it looked nice I guess
Nintendo should have made a Star Fox game like this, it would have been perfect. There are so many games that seem like a no-brainer that were never made. Nintendo has always made weird decisions/non-decisions alongside great ones.
Be sure to check my full review of the game over on my blog: al82retro.blogspot.com/2018/01/game-review-iridion-3d-game-boy-advance.html
I played this game, 16 years at the age of 6 years old. Every time I played this I quit and cut it off.
I cant explain the levels of nostlgia Im having right now.
This was my first GBA game...
I'm so jealous, I wish I played this as a kid! I learned about it for the first time just recently, and I'm totally amazed by it

Was also my first and still own it haha
Também foi meu primeiro jogo no GBA. Bons tempos.
This was my second GBA game 😎

None of this is rendered in real time with polygons, its the same thing as the Super Scaler arcade games of the 90’s, just with a smaller sprite limit
Shin'en are actually Abyss, a demoscene group.

This game is stunning, shows the sprite scaling capabilities of the GBA love it.

it's kind of a stretch to say it looks better than newer titles but it is very well made for its time

Me too back in 04 when I had GBA.

Why did your father smash it

Must have rage because the game was too hard for him 😂

This game was part of my Charter childhood this was my first Game Boy Advance game and I still love it to this day the music is so great
Feelsbadman i just saw the ending cutscene for the first time

Yeah, the DS successor is Nanostray and 3DS is Nano Assault
Holy hell.
I'm more impressed by the fact that it's at 60 fps.
NOT ONLY THAT, IT'S A 2001 GAME.
ON A GAMEBOY ADVANCE
The. Music. From. The. First. Level. Holy. Shit.
Dude I loved this game so much. I played it constantly. So much nostalgia

OH MY GOD! this looks amazing why didn't i have this as kid?
Trust me it was the best game boy game I’ve ever played in my life

This game came out on my birthday whattt
I never made it past Moon Assault ;_;
Thank you for this!
You're welcome 🙂
I had a gba magazine that had the passwords for all the levels, this was the only way I ever saw that fire planet, lol
This was my very first gameboy game I ever had
Shin’en, no wonder the name sounded familiar to me. They’re the company behind Fast RMX. My dad had this for his GBA.
Also, Nanostray and Nano Assault
Great company.
Holy shit, this takes me back ;-;
I loved this game, I find it kinda hard , but I didn’t care, I just loved flying around shooting at enemies !
Still looks impressive to this day
Bush would love this game.
@ 27:09 - the best music on the GBA ever...
13:03
At 1:22 the intro foreshadows 9/11 despite this game being a GBA launch title, released on June 11 2001, 3 months prior.
This game looks amazing (but I prefer gameplay wise on Iridion 2). Shinen are democoder gamedevs and they made later games on other Nintendo consoles, all very technically impressive.
I liked the 1st games feel a lot more
OH MY GOD I COULD NOT FIND THE NAME OF THIS GAME FOR THE LIFE OF ME. I used to have a cartridge, but it was lost a long time ago :(
Glad you found out what it was :)
This was made by the same guys that are best known today for Fast RMX on the Switch.
maquina do tempo. ooooh meu deus. Obrigado nintendo.
This was my first GBA game ❤
Stage 4 gives me some legit Star Fox vibes. It's like Area 6 in 32-bit!
Surely this can't be 16-bit!!!! It looks/sounds too good!!!!
Very nice video I love it
Holy f The stage where you get to shoot mini spirit bombs
Awesome stuff!
I had a lot of fun with this game
My nostalgia it hurts
In the words of vegeta
Hate you hate ya both
I remember having trouble with the Lunar Guard
Then you up and blow it away in about 10 seconds flat
Best looking gba game
Pure nostalgia!
Amazing to play on a gba to snes for tv and controller action
0:13 Shin’en
Still have it at 33
Still haven't beaten it at 33
😒😥

This Game was Great & Hard But The Sequel is 5 times Better!
i want to know how you made the game to look this good
0:32
Funny, why does this resemble New York City?
今作はセガのギャラクシーフォース
続編はコナミのアクスレイ
The perspective didn't really work because you would block your own visibility, Aiming was tough because you're looking down a giant funnel, And power ups were extremely rare and stingy. But at least it looked nice I guess
Probably part of the reason why the perspective was changed in the sequel.
Nintendo should have made a Star Fox game like this, it would have been perfect. There are so many games that seem like a no-brainer that were never made.
Nintendo has always made weird decisions/non-decisions alongside great ones.
Kickass playthru! How did you capture the footage? An emulator? a GBA Consolizer? GameCube with GB Player and HDMI out?
Good job
We need some Coding secrets behind this.
Apparently the used FMV for some of the backgrounds, the level of detail is just too high to be real
Visually impressive, but lacking in depth, as is the case with a lot of launch titles
i'm a Iridion Legend
Good game
Upscaling is not kind to games like this lol
For real ☠️☠️☠️
Where did you find this game make a video on how to download it pleaseeee 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
