I am using Lori's Sew Simple Shapes for Prairie Meadow to finish a Grandmother's Garden quilt I have been working on for several years. I love these flowers she's created, so I am incorporating them in to my Grandmother's Garden quilt, which has fabric scraps from my mother's blouses. My mother passed away about 18 years ago. I want this to be a keepsake for my son and his family after I enjoy it for more years to come - if the Lord says the same. I am so excited to spice up my quilt with these beautiful flowers. I have been collecting beautiful calico fabrics that I have found at a shop in my state that sells for $2.99 per yard. This is quilt fabric! I am so excited to get started!

I am pretty new at all this and do tend to get frustrated when I mess up but this should be fun and not absolutely perfect. I have enough fabric to quilt for the rest of my life. (I'm 68.) So I'm thinking, I just need these Prairie shapes, and I can go from there. So I ordered the templates. Then I ordered a 16.5 square ruler. Then I ordered the packet of 42 Prairie fat quarter fabrics!! What is wrong with me? I can't even applique! So I got out some scraps, and some interfacing, followed the instructions, and made a little sample circle, and sewed it onto a leftover QAYG sandwich. I showed it to my hubby. He wanted to know how I got it so flat. :-) Maybe I can do this..... Like I needed to start a new project.....not! But this quilt is sooooo pretty!!

Hi Lori - I love your fabric and all your creations. One of the first quilts I made was your Sweetie Pie quilt ❤. For pieced quilts I usually starch. I believe it’s probably best not to starch for your appliqué method because it may be better to keep the fabric more flexible (without starch) for turning. I would love to hear your thoughts/advice. My box arrived yesterday and I’m excited to get started! - Jacinda (this is my husband’s RUclips profile 😊)

I’m hoping when I go this weekend they have some of the fabric to go with the Scrappiness is Happiness quilt along, I can’t wait to for the prairie quilt kit to arrive so I can start sewing. Later in this year I’m hoping to do the Bee Happy quit and the tutorials hopefully will still be available. • @LoriHolt
      @LoriHolt  2 года назад +1

Hi Michelle, I treat my applique quilts just like I do my pieced quilts that are used on beds or lap quilts to snuggle and have never had any problems.
I machine wash on gentle cycle...and usually dry them in the dryer.
For my applique quilts that are for wall hanging only I usually do not need to launder them but sometimes I'll put them in the dryer for a "refresh"
Of course you could choose to dry clean if you would like.
      Hope this helps! 🥰

  • @cathywilson3551

confused about the clapper as they are normally used when steam ironed. "A tailor's clapper is a flat block of hardwood, often rounded on the ends with routed grooves along the sides for finger holds. It works by absorbing the steam applied to a seam, and locking in the heat. As you press down on the seam with the clapper, the pressure sets the seam flat as the fabric cools."

Hi Linda...I have been collecting featherweights for many years.
I change my machines out every 4-6 weeks....as they are changed out my hubby oils and cleans them for me so it's very convenient to do it that way to keep them maintained on a regular basis.🥰

    Love this video
But can the creators please fix it. When I watch it on the tv it keeps fading out and fading to black.
    Thank you

Lori, do you cut out the extra fabric & interfacing from the back of the block after you've stitched it? I've had several long-arm quilters request that.

Hi Sheila, Thanks so much for watching. I do not cut any out of the back. I don't consider it extra as it stabilized the quilt and adds dimension to the block. My grandma used to cut hers out because all quilts were hand quilted then and it was necessary so that she could needle through less layers. I've been making my applique quilts for years and have had many many long armers and none of them have ever requested that I cut out excess on the back and all have done gorgeous quilting for me and I've been very pleased with their work. With all of that being said...you are the boss of your own quilt and of course you could trim if you choose.
I hope this helps to answer your question! 🥰

Ok I purchased the prairie meadow quilt kit, the simple shapes and I watched the first video. Where are the rest of the video sew a longs for the remainder of the blocks? I’m struggling with the measurements for the appliqué placements. HELP!

No worries! Just as I’ve said in this video the sew along tutorials for each block takes place on my blog…not here on my RUclips channel. My blog is called Bee in my Bonnet. All of the links for this sew along are in this video description so please click the video description until it opens up so you can read it all and click on the links that you need.
