Hey Fondupot, you are the only one that I have seen upgrade from a basic work truck wheel to something else. I just bought the exact same wheel you installed in this video. You did not have the radio controls on the back of your old wheel did you? I was really hoping to gain the radio controls on the steering wheel so I do not have to reach over and use the touch screen radio. My truck is a 2017 GMC Sierra WT. My radio is a full touchscreen also. EDIT: I stopped the video right at the end before you mentioned that the radio controls do not work for your install. Do you know what you have to do?
The WT radio will not work with radio controls. If you want them you need to add some custom wiring. I think HarnessDR.com sells a kit. But that also requires you to upgrade the radio.
I know you didn't disconnect the volume control connector but im trying to take mine out and I can't figure out how to get that tiny connector to release. Do you happen to know how. I can't find an answer online. Thanks!
I was wondering if the light in the buttons would turn on? I have the same steering wheel and the cluster that you have and I want to make the upgrade. What did you do for the cluster to work with the Work Truck?
I noticed after i made the video that the lights on the steering wheel cruise control buttons do not light up, but they function just fine. I didn't do anything with the cluster, all I did was swap the steering wheel.
Thanks for the reply, if it comes up that I need to do a repair, I'll make a video, otherwise I cant justify doing unneeded maintenance. Good luck with your truck!
Can you put the wheel back on without the arrows lining up? I’ve gotten 3 alignments and my wheel is still slightly crooked when driving straight and drives me crazy lol. Wondering if I could just take the nut off and then move it over 1 spline or 2 to make it straight?
You’ll need to upgrade the wheel and add some wiring, dash cluster and radio module to get radio controls to work. It’s not easy that’s why I just swapped the plastic wheel for the leather one and removed the DIC controls on the right side.
Great video. I am really nervous about the airbag removal, but I can do it. The hard thing is trying to figure out which steering wheel part number I need.
Look up a video by Phil Gamboa. He has better resources for the full-size trucks. I think he makes a harness too that makes it super easy to hook up. I think his site is harnessDr.com
@@fondupot cool I'll check that out. Just got off the phone with a dealer who told me there's "no way that's possible because the wiring won't be compatible" or something.
@@Ryan-zc1tz So I was just re-reading your reply, and I realized I misread. I thought you wanted to add a heated wheel to your truck. Thats why I referred you to Phil Gamboa. But if all you want to do is swap in a leather wheel, then just find a leather wheel on eBay from the same year truck, and then swap it in, exactly like I did. Now if you wanted to add a heated wheel, then I think you could, and Phil Gamboa has a harness for that. Does your WT have the same driver info screen as my truck? or does it have the upgraded one with the arrow pad on the steering wheel?
So if I want the cruise control light to work would I need to take the harness out of my old steering wheel and add it to the new leather wrap steering wheel ?
Thanks for watching. It needs a different clockspring, extra wiring added on top of that, then the up level gauge cluster, then a compatible 8" radio and HMI module. Gets expensive really fast.
Hope someone could help me out if I have a 2014 wt and want to install a ltz wheel with all the buttons what would I need for all of it to work? Including the heated steering and the front bomber sensor, etc
In order to get the volume buttons to work there’s a bunch of other stuff that needs to be done. Including the dash module being replaced and the radio module. Along with some custom wiring. I looked into and decided not worth the money or effort just to have the volume/seek buttons work. So mine are currently useless.
@@fondupot hi, thanks for posting this video. I came here because I wanted to add volume controls. Does the dash module need to be replaced if we are going to use an aftermarket radio? I'm trying to figure out if I can swap the steering wheel, add an aftermarket radio, and integrate the Maestro ADS-MSW Universal Analog Steering Wheel Interface. Any information would be appreciated. Honestly I am not sure. I think you’d still have to add the wires to make the volume work even with an aftermarket radio. Because there is no connection from the wheel to the radio.

Brother,
I gotta say, you did an EXCELLENT job of making this video. Very clear instructions. Thank you!
Cheers Joe. Thanks for watching. Glad it helped.
Man from all the videos I watched. Ur the only one make things clear and correct of how to reach that spring to remove the airbags.
Thank you
Thanks very much. Glad to help.
Thank you I used your video as well to install my new steering wheel. You did a great job of covering all the steps.
Great! Glad to hear! Thanks for watching.
Just changed mine out after watching your video...15 minutes tops! Thanks so much.
Cheers. Thanks for watching.
Good deal was looking to change my radio/info pad and you showed exactly what needs to be done ✔️
Cheers. Thanks for watching.
This is one of the most helpful video on utube. Thank u!
Thanks for that!
Thanks. Easy to fallow. I also got the brown wheel. I thought it was black. LoL.
Glad it helped! Glad you didn’t get the brown one too. Lol. Thanks for watching.
Can you just leave the controls in on the right side just for show and it still be ok?
Yea the buttons just won’t work.
Would I have to remove airbag if I’m just going to swap out old cruise control pad for new ones plus also the other side as well
I think so. Because part of the switch goes under the airbag.
Does the cruise control buttons work?
Yes

It probably has a locking tab that needs to be opened up and then you release it like any other connector by pushing the tab in and pulling it apart.

Any chance you can do a tutorial of how to swap a steering column on this truck? This video gets me about 1/2 way there! Thanks for sharing.

I don’t think you can move it over one spline or two. Cuz there is a larger groove where the arrows are that needs to line up with the wheel.
I have the same work truck. Can you upgrade to this steering wheel but keep the right hand control buttons and get it to control the radio?
