    hey i think despite and although maybe is synonyms

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  3 месяца назад +1

      "Despite" and "although" are related but not direct synonyms, and they cannot be used interchangeably in the same sentences without changing the sentence structure. Here's the difference:
      1. "Despite" is a preposition and must be followed by a noun, pronoun, or gerund.
      Example: "Despite the rain, we went for a walk."
      You cannot say: "Despite it was raining, we went for a walk."
      2. "Although" is a conjunction and is used to introduce a subordinate clause (with a subject and verb).
      Example: "Although it was raining, we went for a walk."
      You cannot say: "Although the rain, we went for a walk."
      In short, both words express contrast, but they are used differently in sentences.

    You are a great teacher ! I ask you , will we pronounce the preposition 'of' same despite of different alphabets of nouns before it ? e.g. The tail of cow is small. or The tail of elephant is small. Pliz help me know it if you had well knowledge of it. Thanks.

    • @englishspeaking360

      Hello! Thanks for the visit. As for your question, the pronunciation of "of" is often "uhv" regardless of whether the following word begins with a consonant or a vowel. However, the pronunciation of "of" is often reduced to "uh" as in a bottle of Coke. "Uh bottle uh Coke." "A cup uh tea."
      Does that help?

    Hi, the sentence "when I am tired, I go to bed early." is equal to "when being tired,...." and "Being tired,..."?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  10 месяцев назад +1

      Good morning! The sentences do have slightly different nuances:
      "When I'm tired I go to bed." - This sentence implies a habitual or regular action. It suggests that whenever the speaker feels tired, they go to bed.
      "When being tired, I go to bed." - This sentence sounds a bit awkward and less common in natural language use. It could be interpreted as emphasizing the condition of being tired as a trigger for going to bed, but it's less clear and less idiomatic than the first sentence.
      "Being tired, I go to bed." - This construction puts more emphasis on the state of being tired itself rather than the action of going to bed.

    I'm not good at English, but I think "The road is clear, so we could arrive early" is fine. (levelB1,2 Question 4/15)
    Am I wrong?

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  11 месяцев назад +4

      Hello, unfortunately, the answer is "should". If the sentence had been at the past tense, you would be right. "The road was clear, so we could arrive early." However, the example uses a present tense "The road is clear now" and a guess about the future "so we should be able to arrive early."
      I hope this helps.
      Have a great day!

    • @englishspeaking360
      @englishspeaking360  9 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry for the late reply. Here's the answer to your question.
      Level B1-B2, Question 6
      He _____ visited Paris before he moved to France.
      a) might be able to visit
      b) might have visited
      c) might visit
      The correct answer is: b) might have visited
      Explanation:
      This sentence is talking about something that possibly happened in the past. The phrase "might have visited" suggests that there is a possibility that he visited Paris before he moved to France. It means that it's possible he went to Paris at some point before moving to France, but we are not sure if he did or not. So, option b) "might have visited" is the right choice.
      Why not A or C?
      Let's break down each option:
      a) "might be able to visit":
      This option suggests a possibility of visiting Paris in the future, not in the past. The sentence is discussing something that happened before he moved to France, so it wouldn't make sense to talk about visiting Paris in the future tense here.
      c) "might visit":
      This option also refers to a possibility of visiting Paris in the future, not in the past. Similar to option a), it doesn't fit the context of the sentence, which is about something that may have happened before he moved to France, not something that might happen after.
      Therefore, neither option a) nor c) is the correct choice because they both refer to future events, while the sentence is discussing a past event. Option b) "might have visited" correctly expresses the possibility that he visited Paris before moving to France.

    • @englishspeaking360

      Level B1-B2, Question 9
      He _____ his neighbor a cup of sugar yesterday.
      a) borrowed
      b) lent
      c) borrowed from
      The correct answer is "b) lent."
      "Lent" is the right word because it means to give something to someone temporarily, expecting it to be returned later. In this context, the sentence implies that "he" gave his neighbor a cup of sugar, indicating that he provided something to the neighbor, not the other way around.

      Good work! Levels C1 and C2 are quite difficult to reach so intermediate is a great level!

      @@englishspeaking360 Thank you for your answer. It was really challenging to achieve this level. I started learning English three years ago. I always knew that hard work is the key to success. Today I'm going to learn some vocabulary (adj. , verbs, nouns) related to this level.

    A1-A2 = 14/15
    B1-B2= 13/15
    Ci-C2=14/15
    But my English is far away from excellent in my opinion

      That's almost perfect! Good job! I know what you mean... Mastering grammatical concepts and actually speaking English are quite different and that may explain why some people get perfect TOEIC scores but can barely speak English. Don't worry though... Being aware of the grammar rules will eventually help you speak better. Keep up the good work!

      That's a good point. This test focuses on grammar. Your grammar skills may be very different from your listening and speaking skills. Focus on improving your listening skills and your English will really improve. Try watching more TV in English with the subtitles on. 🤩👍

      Those are often the most difficult because of all the idiomatic expressions we use.
      Don't give up though!
