Thank you for always making to the point and very consumer friendly videos. You talk about things that would matter to home baristas and you cut through alot of the noise and shenanigans. I decided to go for a Barista Pro, and i am very happy with my choice now after watching this video and not paying an extra 370 USD for the touch model.
Comprehensive, well thought out, and easy to understand review! Helped me make my decision given that my wife will prefer lattes. Thank you! Great to learn about volume vs timing. Why would Breville not use volume on the Touch as well? A bit puzzling. I assume their highest end machines use volume At this time you can get the Touch for $800 and the Pro for $680 so the price difference has become less of a factor. Thanks again!
$800 for a Touch is cheap. I bet they chose timing over volume, because timing is easier to understand and program on a touch screen. They switched it back to volume on the newer Touch Impress.
@@craftcoffeespot Thanks for your response! I saw your comment about the Touch Impress version under this video. What would you go with between the Barista Touch Impress and the Delonghi Dinamica Plus? I don't mind the learning curve with the assisted tamping but my wife may prefer the convenience of the Delonghi. Appreciate your expertise! I'll be sure to use your link.
@@carlosmartindelcampo1365 Touch Impress for sure. My wife didn’t like tamping, but she got the hang of an Impress quickly. The coffee and lattes will taste way better than a super automatic like DeLonghi Dinamica. Last, the Dinamica Plus milk container is annoying to clean, so you’ll like the Touch wand more (and easier control) if you’re into lattes. If you’re interested, here’s the link to Touch Impress: amzn.to/4eGmXSS (this affiliate link supports us, so I appreciate it).
its been a while since you posted this comment. I'm curious which machine you like more? is the Touch worth the extra investment over the Barista Express?
@@jmproductions7041 I sold the Touch on FB Marketplace and went back to the Express. The delay in heating up with the Express is no big deal since it is about the same time it takes to grind... I don't use milk products (and prefer frothing myself), etc...
That’s a good point, but it’s a broader debate: no grinder or with grinder. You can find a better standalone grinder (DF64 on budget or Eureka is better). But the integrated grinder sure is convenient.
I’m new to Breville Pro espresso machines and find this video helpful. I had no idea making a good cappuccino was so nuanced. It does seem to me that an aftermarket grind funnel would be a helpful tool if you don’t want coffee grounds all over your counter top. We opted for the stainless version and after reading comments here about the color versions chipping paint I’m pleased we went that route.
Thanks for the video. A quick question - is the Espresso quality on these machines the same as the bambino plus? In other words would a bambino plus + separate grinder combo be equal to say, the barista pro?
Yes, the espresso quality of the machines is comparable, but it really depends on the grinder. Watch the video I made on seperate grinders, as it’s valid for the Pro and Touch vs Bambino Plus: ruclips.net/video/8PdlSD9zMXM/видео.htmlsi=uQ-cJbYw27gnVQQ1
People are saying that the coloured ones tend to chip easily. But I imagine those are plastic, while there is a another black stainless steel option. Surely that wouldn't chip, would it?
If your weighing your output on a scale what would be the benefit of volumetric output? I’m pretty sure professional baristas use timed output and weigh everything on a scale….
@@craftcoffeespot Interesting... honestly the noise level is the only thing that makes me want to upgrade to something else. I actually do prefer not having a screen and a list of beverages since 95% of the time I only pull espresso shots.
@@RevitExperiments how much of the noise problem is the grinder vs espresso brewing? Because if it’s the grinder (which is my noise complaint) you can get a separate grinder that will be better and quieter easily. Then, get a Breville Bambino - better heating system, no screen, much cheaper.
@@craftcoffeespot Both are loud. Booting the machine is also loud. I had a small DeLonghi Dedica before getting the Barista Express, and it was very silent. With the Barista - when it is brewing or grinding I can't hear what anyone next to me is saying. It is that loud. And it is a second one (they changed it after another problem with the first) so I hoped that the noise levels would be better, but it is the same.
I really wonder how long all those machines will last. And especially machines with touch screen. It just seems to me touch screen might break, and then you'll get no use out of it
The touchscreens have proven sturdy for close to 2 years. Never heard complaints about that component on either of them. External color chipping, O-rings, yes. Never the touch screen.
No. You need to run a blank shot through the portafilter to pre heat. I’ve talked about this with thermojet machines on other videos. 1-2 preheats makes a difference.
Don't buy a Pro that has color. It chips HORRIBLY and they won't do anything about it because that is not covered in the warranty. $800 to put a chipped to heck and back appliance on my counters.

Very accurate review. Is there a mode to use the touch model steam milk as a regular mil steaming without having to keep the milk jar on the machine ?
You can froth manually by lifting up the wand and steaming in that position. It’s tricky though because you can’t rotate the wand at all.
Insightful, not sure if the grinder is best positioned on top of the machine rather than being independent

Unclear. The comments here are the first time I’ve heard of chipping. I briefly owned a black truffle Pro, and it wasn’t stainless steel.
I have a black one, it does not chip.

No difference with a scale. Just pointing out volumetric is better for those who want a “set it and forget it” mode.

True, all the coloured ones tend to chip out badly, especially, it seems, the black truffle one. Steer away from the coloured ones!
