    Hello again Marco, what does the solenoid valve do on one machine that doesn't do on the other please?

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 2 дня назад

      @@louisv7795 it allows the pressure to release at the end of the brew. So, when you finish brewing on Bambino Plus, it stops instantly, and solenoid valve allows water to release into drip tray. On Bambino, it keeps dripping after the shot as pressure can only release through basket. This means Bambino can be more easily damaged if you accidentally grind coffee too fine and clog basket. However, I have been using both for years and have no issues on Bambino, despite clogging it many times. So, I really think it’s less relevant.

    I have the bambino plus (purchased 6 months from amazon) with a Baratza Encore Grinder, scale and all the bells and whistles, equipment. I also have a crema 54 mm bottomless porta filter/basket. My issue is I keep getting coffee spitting out of the bottom of porta filter all over the back of the machine and countertop when brewing single and/or double shot expresso. I tried the original porta filter that came with the machine as well, different grind size, same results. Any recommendations?

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 3 дня назад

      @@domesdomes2231 first, are you using a WDT? That’ll help a lot. Also, grind finer. Keeping going finer until it clogs. Then go back a step. Also, full up the basket a little more - 18-19g. I suspect the Baratza Encore doesn’t have enough nuance on settings so you’re stuck between too coarse (spray) and too fine (clog). WDT and Dose manipulation - using less coffee on finer setting, or more coffee on coarser setting - can tip it. Also, some beans tend to spray. I find lighter roasts (which includes many “craft” roasters) almost always spray because light roasts have more moisture and water runs through rather than absorb in the puck. Last, spray doesn’t mean bad. I get spraying, but the espresso still tastes great!

      @craftcoffeespot 5 дней назад

    But why is the Bambino easier to use when brewing espresso?..... what is it specifically in the brewing process that is easier than on the Gaggia?

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 20 дней назад

      Several: 1) pre-set volume button on Bambino, so you get the same amount of water per shot. 2) pre-infusion on Bambino, this saturate coffee before full pressure and makes shots more consistent, and 3) heating/PID on Bambino, which regulates temperature more. Gaggia gets to boiling temp if you leave it on too long, and too cold if you don't wait, so need to eyeball right temp, and 4) design: the Gaggia has very little space between spout and cup, which makes it annoying to use. Pro for Gaggia is bigger portafilter and heating system is great if you learn it well. If you get everything right (manual button press, and perfect grind) it will taste better.

    • @craftcoffeespot

    I just picked up a Pro at HomeGoods for $500. Total steal. However, I’m at 6200 ft elevation and have heard issues with the Pro (and other Thermojet models) having pressure inconsistencies at high elevation. Makes me a little nervous.

      @@hyruleworrier3021 I know coffee roasts differently at higher elevations (roasts faster) but never heard anything with espresso. Let me know - curious.

    I find that once I have the grind dialled in I can run dose and then, without withdrawing the portafilter, very lightly tamp the pile. This enables you to remove the portafilter without making a mess, and you can then distribute the grinds as you see fit. However, after multiple tests I find the auto tamper manages to do the job without customisation as I'm not getting channelling and the dose is reliable. Having said that, I'm probably not as fussy as some coffee aficionados and in many ways this machine suits my coffee style and the price is great.

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 21 день назад

      Agree. A light shake of the portafilter usually settles the pile enough to remove. But, 95% of viewers will not need to worry about any of this. It's a solid machine, where the lower pressure and, I think, an improved burr alignment make WDT/distribution less important.

    Comprehensive, well thought out, and easy to understand review! Helped me make my decision given that my wife will prefer lattes. Thank you! Great to learn about volume vs timing. Why would Breville not use volume on the Touch as well? A bit puzzling. I assume their highest end machines use volume At this time you can get the Touch for $800 and the Pro for $680 so the price difference has become less of a factor. Thanks again!

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 26 дней назад

      $800 for a Touch is cheap. I bet they chose timing over volume, because timing is easier to understand and program on a touch screen. They switched it back to volume on the newer Touch Impress.

      @@craftcoffeespot Thanks for your response! I saw your comment about the Touch Impress version under this video. What would you go with between the Barista Touch Impress and the Delonghi Dinamica Plus? I don't mind the learning curve with the assisted tamping but my wife may prefer the convenience of the Delonghi. Appreciate your expertise! I'll be sure to use your link.

      @@carlosmartindelcampo1365 Touch Impress for sure. My wife didn’t like tamping, but she got the hang of an Impress quickly. The coffee and lattes will taste way better than a super automatic like DeLonghi Dinamica. Last, the Dinamica Plus milk container is annoying to clean, so you’ll like the Touch wand more (and easier control) if you’re into lattes. If you’re interested, here’s the link to Touch Impress: amzn.to/4eGmXSS (this affiliate link supports us, so I appreciate it).

    Some users of the foil seal type reusable kit had serious problems when the seal broke. This may not happen often, but you'd be in serious trouble if you get unlucky. Sure, it seems expensive for that little bit of coffee in a capsule, but what you buy is convenience. Even drip coffee requires more work than this. Other brewing methods, if one really cares about their coffee, would be even more elaborate and involved. I like the "ritual" of making my espressos, pour over or Moka pot, but there are times that I just want to have a fairly decent cup of coffee without all the work, and I don't really mind the $1+ for the pod.

    Fantastic video! Finally some clarity =) One question: While watching the video you had me sold on Vertuo (body, acidity, etc). However, you mentioned toward the end that the OL has specialty roasters producing coffee-pods. Do you notice substantially higher quality coffee from these specialty roaster pods? Are there comparable tasting varieties available in the Vertuo (I.e., lighter roasts, more sweet-acidic, not stale, etc). I hope you see this!

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 27 дней назад

      I think the Vertuo pods taste better than Nespresso original. While other roasters make OL pods, they tend to be mainstream brands like Starbucks...haven't found any specialty roasters I'd recommend there.

    Convinced me to upgrade to the Aerochino4, even though the 3 is on sale for $50. That said, this will be the most unrelated question you might ever get. What microphone are you using to shoot? It sounds like you're 2" away from a high quality studio mic, but you're clearly not - and there's no telltale 'under the shirt' bulge of a lavalier microphone. I'm stumped. How are you get that completely amazing audio?

    • @craftcoffeespot
      @craftcoffeespot 27 дней назад

      That would be a question for my director. I used a local studio to shoot and used all of his equipment, so I don't know the brand. I know it was a premium mic and he also cleaned up audio gaps in post-production. He is fantastic and all credit goes to him for the excellent audio.

    I've had 4 Barista Pro's and each one broke within days. Also the grinder is not fit for purpose. You only have to look on RUclips to see all the clips saying they can't get an expresso fine grind. Personally I'd swerve any Sage/Breville products after my experience with them. The customer service is dreadful.

    Nespresso machines have high extraction -23-25%. The crema on a nespresso shot is not a crema it’s just aerated coffee which is horrible and bitter and can’t be compared to proper crema.
