  • Why buy a lift? THIS IS WHY!
    Some folks think the rappelling incident was staged. I assure you, that happened. Some of the video footage was recreated, but I presented it exactly as it happened. I really did get stranded, I really was alone, and I really did have a rope with me, and it really was the first time I had brought a rope with me.
    Why did I need to be up in the lift to get drone footage? I should have explained better. Of course I can get drone footage standing on the ground. I wanted footage of me up high in the lift. Mainly I was looking to get a cool thumbnail.

    Welcome to my redneck amusement park! I hope you liked the video! Some folks think the rappelling incident was staged. I assure you, it was not. I should have explained better. Of course I can get drone footage standing on the ground. I wanted footage of me up high in the lift. Mainly I was looking to get a cool thumbnail. Oh, and the pond is 12-13 feet deep in the area where we were jumping. I estimate the highest I jumped was about 35', 10.5 meters. Have an awesome weekend everybody!

      Well, now we know the REAL reason for the purchase LOL
      Imagine driving one of those through a shopping mall with 3"of clearance on each side between a kiosk with $70k worth of hand blown glass on one side and a glass plate storefront on the other. At 3am. Hopped up on caffeine. And getting paid to do it. For two weeks a year. I've had a weird life.

    I was in a very similar situation doing tree work in a rented unit, up 50’, the little old lady I was working for had to use the override on the ground, me hollering down to her instructions on what to do, in the end I bought myself a F800 Derrick digger that has a bucket, winch, grapple, and can lift 11,000 lbs..but I will not go up in it alone!, it will quit on occasion and no way down from that unit…

    There is something different about that first step off of a structure vs. a step off of a rock face. Even if the rock face has an abrupt edge, it is less nerve racking to go off than it is go out a window and on to the rope. And as you mentioned, being on a less stable structure adds a little more excitement for your brain to think about.

    I got a JLG scanner on newer models they have ECM after 2000+-.
    Check boom wiring where it is in tray .
    Also where it plugs into plugs and pins get corroded.
    JLG are the best. Free repair parts manuals online.
    John L.Grove (JLG) invented first hydraulic cranes .
    There is a museum in Shady Grove PA.
    I had many Grove and JLG the best.
    We used to set lightweight trusses with this lift .
    Be careful driving on uneven ground I almost got tossed out of basket going off a curb . Pot hole curbs not good when driving with boom up.

I know you're trying new things to grab a bigger audience, I just hope that this is not a permanent format change (i.e. pure short teen entertainment and not learning or make anything) as not alienate your current audience. It kind of reminded me of a TikTok video. I'm not saying this is a terrible video either, just a massive change from what you currently do which is ok every now and again which you have done in the past, you got to have fun too. Your production quality is going through the roof too, very polished and well put together. I know you're trying to grow your channel and I dont really understand why its not bigger as I see you in the same category as Andrew Camartra (although not as good these days), Diesel Creek etc, . i.e. fun and easy to watch and learn something too, so I thought I would give more constructive opinion than typically, your awesome, love the video. Just my opinion too, it's your channel, and you have been doing pretty awesome so far. lol, John, your dam has a lot of seals in it. need to be careful your johnson doesn't hit and get stuck in one of them. How does one know what the lift is capable to "hang out" without tipping? When jumping into the pond it looked like it was on a slope as well? Where you not afraid that it might tip over into the water? Please excuse me if this is a stupid quest. 😅

    • @FarmCraft101
      @FarmCraft101  Год назад +1

      Good question. It can lift 1000 pounds in most positions. 500 pounds or less it can do in any position. It has a tilt sensor that tells you if it’s tilted too much. We never did more than 500 pounds over the pond, and we didn’t even have the boom extended very far. We were well within its capacity. And yes, I did think that through before we started jumping.

    I worked in a mill and working with manlift was mandatory in the crane repair department which I worked in. They required a ground person just in case of malfunctions and to direct people away from the area. They also were there to call the manlift people if it broke.

    I never repelled from it, but I was generally using it for tree work, so it normally had rope in the bucket.

    That is a fantastic video and that is one heck of a boom for height. What a great way to enjoy the pond on a hot day ... I was volunteer Ski Patrol for seven years out in BC Canada and one of the largest things I had to pack was rope , but I can't tell you how many times it was used to haul people out who didn't didn't know how to read ; " Out of Bounds or Avalanche Area ".... Sure everyone loves new powder but very few know how to ski on it ! ! !

    I am sure you know this...but why not clean the terminals (and leads, or just tell us that you did, or maybe show us) and put a light coating of dielectric grease on the terminals when you change out the battery? The posts had that corroded light gray look about them, maybe they weren't shot in the best light for me to see them better, who knows. I love the video's keep 'em coming, also I am glad you're still able to grab a rope and descend when your options are minimal!

    The “fall” appeared to be, let’s just say, somewhat rehearsed, although it was entertaining nonetheless. But to have repelling gear conveniently available after multiple equipment failures on a boom 50’ feet in the air while home alone and a drone ready to record everything? That’s a big ask. I guess I’m just getting skeptical in my old age.

    • @FarmCraft101
      @FarmCraft101  Год назад

      You aren't alone, many are skeptical though it did happen. One, I'd be stupid not to have a contingency plan in a lift that is 26 years old, hence the rappelling gear. Two, I'm a youtuber and I have cameras rolling all the time. Three, I'm making videos about the lift, so I almost always have at least 1 camera on when I'm using it. I guess I should have explained that better in the vid.

  • @rectorsquid
    @rectorsquid Год назад +1

    As a rock climber, I might have some suggestions. For instance, don't let go of the rope below the rappel device while stepping out/off the platform. Either keep it in your hand or wrap it around your leg a few times. You don't want to weight that figure-8 and not be holding onto the rope or it will be a quick trip down. There are better ways to coil a rope for climbing too, but that probably doesn't matter since this is for emergencies. Mostly, rock climbers need to be able to feed out a rope to a climber and not have it be twisted.
