Not a bad option, but the Olight battery is an odd voltage - 2.4V nominal. Other 14500 LiIon cells have nominal 3.7V (max voltage of 4.2 when fully charged). Would love to see how the i5t goes with a regular 14500 3.7V cell
Yes, the Olight battery is unique. Others have used 14500s in the i5T/R. The lights are able to handle them but they get extremely hot if left on for extended amounts of time. Also, they become single mode lights (high mode only). The output is really impressive but the heat gets intense fast.
Hi great video, wondering have you tried a pair of i5r batteries in an i5tplus? Any thoughts as could see that a pair of 3.7v batteries could be a bit too big a jump but maybe 2 x 2.4v?
Good idea! I have not tried this since I don’t have the i5T Plus, but I’ve had the same thought. I wonder if the light could handle that voltage. If so, I imagine the output would be incredible but it would probably get hot quickly as well.
Just been looking back over some of your videos and have a question. Have you done a side by side test of the i5t and i5r both using the i5r battery. Is there any noticeable difference in outputs in either low or high modes?
@@PardonMyEnglish👌👍 Thank you, I suspected as much, but wasn't sure as I only have the one i5r battery and it's hard to judge swapping back and forth. The i5t although hugely more powerful, 1200lm as tested by Smothered Chrome, just gets way too hot with a 3.7v 14500.😊 Be interesting to see if a 3.2v lifepo4 battery is better in that regard.
Hi! Question here. Does the i5t retain both low and high modes after using the 2.4V recharg. battery? Wasn't able to find info in the vid. Wanted to get one for my i5T (Camo/Purple ver). Thank you in adavance. 🙂
Good question. I recently made a video about the i5R with 3.7v 14500 combo. Here is the link: Olight i5R with 3.7v 14500 Runtime Test ruclips.net/video/7DAYupb_YgU/видео.html
Appreciate you creating a video about this.
You bet!

Good review. Really enjoy the channel!
Thank you for the kind words and for checking out the video!

Good question, Graham. I’ll check this later today and reply back with what I find 👍
@@PardonMyEnglish 👍Great thanks.
I checked and there is little to no difference in output. Both retain the 2-mode operation. Hope that info helps!

Good question. Yes, the i5T does retain 2-mode operation while using the i5R battery.
@@PardonMyEnglish Super! 🤗
which one cheaper ? i5t + buy 2,4 volt battery or i5r
Good question. If you’re choosing between the two, the i5R might be the more economical choice based on what I’m seeing.
What about the i5R with a 3.7v rechargeable battery?

Thank you. I guess the i3T is the winner. I just got the blue pinwheel i3T. It’s beautiful, so much so that I bought a second one.
if you have i5t why dont you buy just the i5r rechargable battery???
That’s a good idea in my opinion. The i5T basically becomes an i5R using the i5R battery.
Great video, but please no music. It makes hard understanding you for people like me hard of hearing.
Thank you. And yes, I’ll be sure to have either no music or very quiet music moving forward.
