For real. That and the episode Winners and Losers, where they show a montage of the losers. That really hit it home for me. Launched it into one of the greatest sports anime of all time.
The thing I love about Sports Anime is that it inspires people to try out Sports they never involved themselves in because of the sheer motivation they felt after watching a Sports Anime. Their realism are sometimes inconsistent but they make a good job to still make it "feel" real. The over-exaggeration on some moves in order to emphasize things are also well-done most of the time. I fully agree with you. I can tell how unrealistic it can be at times. I was never really interested in sports itself and neither was I good at sports but sports anime and sometimes anime in general really inspires and motivates me in all sorts of ways. even in sports which I don't really like. I love that feeling of getting inspired and motivated by something so powerful and that I like as well. I would never skip a scene in haikyuu even if it's about a match which I have probably watched 1000×, it just never gets boring.
I think I started watching Prince of tennis 🎾 freshman year high and starting playing tennis because it looked like so much fun. I could never play on the team I’m not that good. I enjoy casually playing now when I have days off work it gives me something to look forward too

1:45 is the real answer. It's not about how real the sport is but about how real the human drama is. The lack of fantasy in most sports anime isn't so much their strength as it is the thing that forces them to play up the real, human moments that build up to, surround and permeate all of their action. And, if you enjoy shounen fights for their dramatic clashes of ideals, sports anime are ALL that. More grounded, perhaps, but also full of wannabe winners testing their metal against eachother with so much weight given to all of it.
Not gonna lie, from someone who personally has no interest in any sports, I have never been so inspired by and bonded so much with my friends over Kuroko No Basketball and Haikyuu!!! We literally binged the 4th season of Haikyuu and were screaming and cheering like we were in the crowd but actually we were in a dormitory. The characters got hurt, we felt that pain. We felt the joy when they won as well. Even watching the KNB movie was a thrill to watch with one of my bffs. The sheer amount of energy and hype you get from these animes is on par with any shounen anime you can think of. Don't even get me started on the OPs! Favorite character will always be my shield, my boi, Tsukishima Kei. Thanks for another great video!
God, I love Haikyu so much. My favorite sports anime, even though there are soo many amazing sports anime out there. PS. As someone who played sports all his life and loves sports anime, I can 100% understand how much passion was put in this video. Amazing job.
It actually is impossible. In volleyball, sets have little to no spin. The fantasy part of haikyuu is the leeway of "double touches". Kageyama's special dropping set would immediately be called as a double. All the sets would be, but that makes sense from an animation perspective because the spinning ball is far more cinematic than a static ball moving
It is extremely rare for someone to achieve such skill and technique to be able to make such sets like him but the only part that doesn't really happen is the part where the set starts to spin. It's pretty much impossible for that to happen since you can not hold the ball but only 'push' it in a certian direction and a spin ball can not be achieved without holding it even the slightest. But it is still possible to aim a ball to a certain area, you just need to be very talented and calculative to get it done.

Thank you Get in the Robot. This is my favorite sports anime. I love underdog stories. The Character development of Kageyama, Tsukki, Hinata, Nishinoya and the whole team of Karasuno is off the charts. The comedy is also fire. When they found out they were gonna have BBQ after their last game, they were dancing awkwardly was genius motivation at funny af. Plus they also feature their opponents vastly. That block shook me.
I loved this video so much for so many reasons ;-;-;-; I love that you used Haikyuu as the main showcase because I don’t think it gets the respect it deserves. It really captures the emotion and stakes so well. And I love how genuine these experiences were for you, because it’s the exact way so many of us feel when watching. This was just so wholesome aaaaaahhhhhh. I fucking love Haikyuu and this channel so thank you for this wonderful food
I CANNOT tell you how much I LOVE Haikyuu and that clip you showed at the beginning? TSUKKI is MVP I LOVE HIM that scene when time almost stopped! I cry almost everytime!!!!
I’ve been playing volleyball for more than half my life. Finding Haikyuu is what got me into anime. As someone who knows a lot about volleyball, it’s fun both from the shared experience angle and the fact that so many points are easy to pick apart. For example, the fact that it takes them to the end of season three to realise that the blockers and the defenders should coordinate to limit attack options. Still, I love Haikyuu so much.
I played volleyball in middle school and high school and I’m like short af so it felt so relatable to see Hinata and Nishinoya and to cheer them on🤗 I miss the old animation of Haikyu though😢
U forgot to talk about how sports anime is inspirational because I saw haikyuu and Me and My friends were like we have to start playing volleyball and no we are training to play I want to be like Nishinoya a libero
Great video! I've never really watched sports anime before (I'm much more of a fantasy/sci-fi person tbh), but I do like sports (just...weird ones, like trick riding and gymnastics and mounted archery and stuff). I used to wrestle in middle school, and what you said about feeling like an anime protagonist training really hit home. I was dummy obsessed with the Legend of Zelda series back then, so when we were doing our warmup laps, I liked to pretend I was Link going exploring or a Gerudo guard training to become a warrior or something. And while I wasn't good at wrestling (I lost literally all of my matches lmao), it made me feel really cool. Also, with more individual sports like wrestling, the sense of failure or glory when you lose or win is SO MUCH MORE INTENSE!!! Before wrestling, I had done a little bit of cheerleading and played some soccer, so all my experience was with team sports. But in wrestling, while you have your coach and your team behind you to back you up, the actual outcome of your match rests upon you and your abilities, and those of your opponent. It really taught me how to lose with grace and dignity (as much as you can have with your face mooshed into the floor while you're wearing a singlet in front of a stadium of people). Pretty much the only other places I've found the level of fellowship I found in sports was in music and the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms), but the whole "I feel like a protagonist" thing is definitely pretty unique to sports. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna get my out of shape ass out of bed, do some pushups, and then check out that tank girl anime.
@Venus and Bluebells With a story like yours... that you've just told, I would not be surprised if someone would one day decide to make a theatrical film / documentary about your life... or if that's not possible, someone could create an entire story (be it in comic form or in live-action / animated form) around a character based on you.
@@KevinKess OMG THANK YOU! Also you just inspired me to go yeet and write something about myself lol...I usually write fantasy stuff and it never occurred to me that I could also write about cool stuff I do sometimes
I watched the whole haikyu season 5 times in 2016 2018 2019 and now 2020 and know to see that it is blowing up love and hate that at the same time because people thought that i was weird that i liked a sports anime and especially a volleyball one thanks for making this video.
Hey Kurt! Loved this video. I'm a huge fan of sports anime too, especially where the effort and emotions involved are so real. I liked how how you accurately captured so many aspects of why we love sports anime. One aspect I would have liked to hear about though, is the music in sports anime. For instance, in that scene that starts off depicted as Ushiwaka holding down Hinata and Tsukishima, but finally results in them getting free thanks to the help of their sempais, and where the Karasuno team finally beats Ushiwaka's spike, leading to the point that wins the game - I think moments like that wouldn't be as moving without the violin ost playing in the background :) I guess what I'm trying to say is - one of the reason's I love sports anime, is because they also get the music so f#*&ing right!
Yall seen Prince of Stride Alternative. Made me realize that i didnt need a solid court, or a ball to be active. I could just run, its free and you can do it anywhere. Havnt stopped since. Im not as explosive, as fast and distance sub par. I cant stop, it feels good, its a stress relief and i im not trying to beat anyone. Im just doing it for me. Find what you like, keep at it and have fun. Its not always about the competition. Its about the experience, make it worth your while. ✌
Hey man just wanted to thank you for making this video. I’m super into sports anime for exactly the reasons you said, and your video is a great way of explaining to my non-sports friends why sports anime(and sports!) are the hypest thing.
Bro this is by far one of my favorite videos. Thank you for giving my welcome to the ballroom some love. Also after watching the whole video I really loved high jump as well and I'm currently trying to get into volleyball but I also love anime. Ty for the video
Your are my new hero! You just resume most of the reasons why I love sports anime. I love the human/real/emotional part of this shows. Thank you so much for this video and definitely 👍
I love sports anime and my goal is it to watch every sports anime that is listed on anilist :D (there 621 titles so far) My favorite anime of all time so far is "Haikyuu!!" :) and all Seasons of "Major" are close behind :)
Oh wow, thanks for this video, Curt. I've never watched or had any interest in watching any before. But after you talking so funnily and eagerly, and sharing so much of your own self in the video, I'm convinced to check some out finally. Thanks man
Haikyuu is the only sports anime ive watched that made me feel bad that our team beat them, i love my man Oikawa cause he reminded me of myself I wasn't gifted with raw natural talent in baseball but I honed my skills to be the best i could be and Shiratorizawa is the best "villain" team that the anime has covered (no spoilers for people who haven't read the manga)
Loved this video. I could really sense your passion! I also noticed that the baseball anime Oofuri wasn't mentioned, so I'd like to recommend it! It makes me WEEP lmao
@@sheepherd2210 Just finished season 2 on Netflix! It is amazing!! I started the dub so I'll force myself to wait for the next dubbed release ... Also, thanks again for this introduction to sports anime vid Get in the Robot!
Sports anime can also make you a better spectator because of the attention paid to realism in training, plays and strategies. My knowledge of basketball, tennis, and baseball were greatly improved by series like Kuroko’s Basketball, Baby Steps, and Ace of Diamond. I have way more fun enjoying games with my family without having to ask what’s going on all the time, and I retain the information better because of likable characters and situations. I am currently yelling at episodes of Ace of Diamond like I yell at my sons games 😅 ...just warming up for the season. This was THE best Get In the Robot video. Thanks 😊
I have watched the entire Haikyu series over 6 times. I'm totally in love with it and the genre in general. It put me on to other shows as well. No regrets. I'm in deep, man. Every time Hinata flies my heart soars too.
You explained everything so well!! I love Haikyuu so much because it shows the path of passionate people trying to get to their dreams by just WORKING HARD. I love the sportsmenship between all the characters. There is no single character I dislike! It moves me so much. I will rewatch Haikyuu I guess.
I have the same height as Hiinata but without the hops u know... but I really loved sports and I kind of struggled looking for one back then, until 5th grade when I discovered that in volleyball they have these defense specialists called "liberos" and yeah I trained for that specific position and is now playing for my senior high team. It really feels good when you find a purpose and a place in sports, it's like having a home you can always go back to. Watching Haikyuu give spotlight to liberos like nishinoya and just the position in general just makes me happy because we don't always get that recognition.
Besides the mispronunciations, I loved hearing Curt pour his heart and soul into this video. Sports anime can always be distilled into hardwork and determination. However, Haikyu!! is about constantly pushing yourself and others around you to be better. We get to see Hinata appreciate every aspect of the sport and it helps the viewer understand the intricacies of an athlete’s craft.

Curt you're an inspiration. Notice me senpai. I love Haikyuu with all of my heart and soul. I love crow motifs and homoerotic volleyball montages. 1000% would recommend
no... spiking is like actually the least important aspect of volleyball. passing is. by far. you can run a whole match without spiking a single ball and still win. If you serve hard, block well and be smart you might not need to spike. you can tip, roll and wipe for a whole match... and win. I've done it before. This season in the championship match of my league we won in 3 straight sets. I scored 10 points. I did not hit the ball once. 3 from aces and the other 7 from smart plays.

Ohmygosh the timing of this video. I just started this show about a week and a half ago and finished it this morning.
I flipping love Sports animes, like it seriously takes me back to how I felt when I was in track!
I CANNOT tell you how much I LOVE Haikyuu and that clip you showed at the beginning? TSUKKI is MVP I LOVE HIM that scene when time almost stopped! I cry almost everytime!!!!
Hey, a good half of Haikyuu's characters are twenty-three in the current day, you're gucci dude
I played volleyball in middle school and high school and I’m like short af so it felt so relatable to see Hinata and Nishinoya and to cheer them on🤗 I miss the old animation of Haikyu though😢
i honestly almost yelled when you showed the Ace of Diamond clip, such a great anime!!!!!!!
@Venus and Bluebells
With a story like yours... that you've just told, I would not be surprised if someone would one day decide to make a theatrical film / documentary about your life... or if that's not possible, someone could create an entire story (be it in comic form or in live-action / animated form) around a character based on you.
@@KevinKess OMG THANK YOU! Also you just inspired me to go yeet and write something about myself lol...I usually write fantasy stuff and it never occurred to me that I could also write about cool stuff I do sometimes
Omg I'm so glad you mentioned Welcome to the Ballroom ✨✨✨
I watched the whole haikyu season 5 times in 2016 2018 2019 and now 2020 and know to see that it is blowing up love and hate that at the same time because people thought that i was weird that i liked a sports anime and especially a volleyball one thanks for making this video.
When you don't hear/see Captain Tsubasa in the video:
*Cries in Portuguese*
Just wanna give credits to All Out!! for portraying the faculty advisor (teacher) for once in a Sports Anime and that made me cry a lot
I just wanna say THANK YOU for including welcome to the ballroom, it needs more attention
When is Adrian gonna get his own episode?
he might be too afraid to talk in front of a camera
Bro this is by far one of my favorite videos. Thank you for giving my welcome to the ballroom some love. Also after watching the whole video I really loved high jump as well and I'm currently trying to get into volleyball but I also love anime. Ty for the video
I like sports...I like sports anime...I approve this video
Your are my new hero! You just resume most of the reasons why I love sports anime. I love the human/real/emotional part of this shows. Thank you so much for this video and definitely 👍
I love sports anime and my goal is it to watch every sports anime that is listed on anilist :D (there 621 titles so far)
My favorite anime of all time so far is "Haikyuu!!" :) and all Seasons of "Major" are close behind :)
Bro, its cool. Haikyuu!! Has me in tears like every two episodes. Sometimes tears of joy, sometimes the other kind.
PLEASE EVERYONE, just watch Kaze ga tsuyoku fuiteru (Run with the wind) you won't be disappointed, i promise
I had goosebumps every time you showed a Clip of Haikyuu
I love coming here early and watching the comments roll in
Loved this video. I could really sense your passion! I also noticed that the baseball anime Oofuri wasn't mentioned, so I'd like to recommend it! It makes me WEEP lmao
Looks like I'm going to have to watch Haikyu... Never have watched a sports anime...but now I'm willing to try...
It's so good. Watched it because it has been on my list for like 2 years lol
@@sheepherd2210 Just finished season 2 on Netflix! It is amazing!! I started the dub so I'll force myself to wait for the next dubbed release ... Also, thanks again for this introduction to sports anime vid Get in the Robot!
Also... Season 2 episode one... was the bomb
@@theshocktart the dub is actually hilarious, it's like the meme version 🤣 but the sub is definitely what I would recommend
Thanks 😊
Diamond no ace is so underrated. Amazing show
It's ok to cry my man.
I have watched the entire Haikyu series over 6 times. I'm totally in love with it and the genre in general. It put me on to other shows as well. No regrets. I'm in deep, man. Every time Hinata flies my heart soars too.
Never been more proud to be from Ohio or an OSU student than while i was watching this video
Omg he mentioned Yowamushi pedal!I almost hear no one talk about yowapedal!subsribed!
What’s your high jump pr and how tall are you, I’m new to high jump but my coach says I have potential, also this video is really good
You explained everything so well!! I love Haikyuu so much because it shows the path of passionate people trying to get to their dreams by just WORKING HARD. I love the sportsmenship between all the characters. There is no single character I dislike! It moves me so much. I will rewatch Haikyuu I guess.
Do us a solid please. List the names of shows mentioned in a pinned comment or in the description. Would be super good times.
They do have the names above each clip
The best example of the feeling of a Sports anime that makes me love something i have no clue about is Chihayafuru A competitive poem card game
Best sports moment in anime is in Hunter x Hunter when they played nen-volleyball against MMO-video game moderators
Nen dodgeball*
Yeah that's not volleyball
Bruh, I absolutely love the absurd amount of love that sports anime have gotten the past couple of years.
RUN WITH THE WIND!
I’m not screaming over you guys FINALLY doing a video on Haikyuu
No one:
Curtis: *Bolly-Ball* 2:41
I have the same height as Hiinata but without the hops u know... but I really loved sports and I kind of struggled looking for one back then, until 5th grade when I discovered that in volleyball they have these defense specialists called "liberos" and yeah I trained for that specific position and is now playing for my senior high team. It really feels good when you find a purpose and a place in sports, it's like having a home you can always go back to. Watching Haikyuu give spotlight to liberos like nishinoya and just the position in general just makes me happy because we don't always get that recognition.
Love the Ohio sports references in this
Much love for the Yowamushi Pedal shoutout, that anime changed my life and made me a better road cyclist.
Cleveland is anything but saved haha
Its a great video..would have loves some hajime no ippo in it which is my other favourite sports anime alongside HAikyuu!! LOVE HAIKYUU!!
No cap. I found Haikyu! in the last 5 months and it has become one of my favorite Animes. I cant get enough.
Hello GITR, love you all :D

Curt you're an inspiration. Notice me senpai. I love Haikyuu with all of my heart and soul. I love crow motifs and homoerotic volleyball montages. 1000% would recommend
Rules of volleyball:
Hit balls
no... spiking is like actually the least important aspect of volleyball. passing is. by far. you can run a whole match without spiking a single ball and still win.
14:52 That's Coach Anzai. Akagi is the captain :)
Awesome video 😎👍
