Haikyuu is the best sports anime! The sense of friendship and camaraderie between the characters is so refreshing. Sage is exactly right. The emotions are conveyed so well in this anime as the story progresses through the highs and lows
As i watched haikyuu, there were moments where i got goosebumps. Scenes where characters enter the flow. Through belief in oneself, through belief in your teammates, through hard times and through practice you can become one with the moment and you can dominate in anything really. Haikyuu really represents what it takes to achieve such a state. Its a story of triumph and failure and its shown how we should grow from both.
yes it's a sport anime but then i dont want to just box it in as the best in that category, it is imo one of the best anime. the way it treats its characters is simply beautiful
I remember having to take breaks while bingeing Haikyu!! because of the emotions it pulled out from HS football & wrestling. Both times my senior year I ended in failure. Well, defeat. It crushed me, after so much work, so much pain, & turning strangers & friends into teammates - teammates that 30 yrs later I would pull up if they fell. Losing the 2nd year in a row in the finals in football. Blown out worse than I, & we, ever had since first playing ball at 8 yrs old. Having helped turn around a wrestling program that did more than bottom out, rising to captain, & the team beating the dominant league champs for the first time in about 8 yrs, only for me to lose 2 straight times on the second day at state quarterfinals. Even worse was seeing a guy I had handily beaten a month prior advancing in a lower weight class. I never pushed my kids away from sports but I never encouraged them. Watching Haikyu!! with them, explaining the teamwork & drive needed, the hurt the players were going through, as I remembered it, made me think I should have pushed them a little bit into sports. This anime was both a joy & a ... ripped scab that I thought had long healed. I can look at my HS sports without regret now, & I know I did right for my kids. This sports anime helped me in an area I didn't know I needed help in.
I though I had gotten over the feeling and thrill of playing Football, but half through the first game, I realized the passion I had to give up on because of injuries. Truly a classic in my eyes; if not for story telling, then most definitely for the feelings and memories it brought back to me. Edit: I freaking love this channel. You capture and speak to things that open my eyes to new and exciting concepts every video.
Haikyuu is one my favorites Slice-of-life & Sports anime! 🧡🖤🧡🖤 All the characters, both main and secondary have their own moments to shine. Shows relatable moments. You root for all teams, either rival or Karasuno. There's no enemy, nor antagonist. Everyone here are playing the game they love. A simple sport convey friendship, teamwork, sadness and there isn't wrong of being passionete about something. Thanks for the vid, Sage!
I started following the NBA post season after seeing that 7th game buzzer beater... And as a volleyball player myself I can't express how perfectly Haikyuu nails the feeling of family that being on a volleyball team (or hopefully any team) brings with it... Thanks for the wonderful video which reminded me of why I loved Haikyuu and why I still play volleyball. Can't wait for the next upload ❤️.
I just want to say I watch this analysis the same day I read the last chapter of the manga. I will always miss Haikyuu. I never been in a sports team but doesn't matter with the show. It gives you emotions not just for volleyball but something you can relate to, as long as you experience being on the team. As long as you experience failure you can relate. But what I love the most with Haikyuu is it make you inspired to catch your dreams. Even if the odds are against you or even if you it will probably useless in the future, just continue to work hard. Plus Haikyuu animation is A+. Also the manga is the best. Chapters makes me stand for excitement every time.
I never really understood why people get so excited when it comes to playing against really strong teams in sports. For me when I played Rugby and now when I play basketball I always get really nervous before every game. A lot of the time I don't even think nervous, my body just does it on its own. Recently though, that thought of playing in front of huge crowds, big bright lights hitting my eyes, on a brand new court with fresh finish gets my heart pumping. It makes me want to practice a lot more so I can join my school's top basketball team so that I get to experience that. Though when I get there I want to be good enough to be a starter, someone who's teammates can rely upon and can give the ball in clutch time when we need buckets. The feelings of nervousness and pure bliss playing sports have given me is something I'll always be thankful for. P.S Sage what's your favorite sport. You seem like a basketball man to me.
Man, I cried watching this video, I myself play in a volleyball team at my school, and this year we ended up on the second place of the league, the thing is this year was most of my teammates' last year at our school and it truly breaks my heart knowing that I won't be able to play with them as a team anymore. Changing of subject I haven't watched many of your videos but I really like them, the way yo analyze these animes is just amazing, keep up the good work!
Thanks sage's rain. I watched one of your video and came into he world of anime. Only because of you I had now watched naruto and ATLA and now watching haikyu. Thanks a lot.
Haikyuu got the best character writing in thr history of sports manga, and i have read quite a lot thank you for the video, it really sums up the essence of what this series is all about
Hey Sage Can you a video Reveling The Story Of Rock Lee, he has had a tough childhood and ends up beings one off my most motivation characters. His determination and Perseverance Is just amazing to watch❤️🔥
I found this video through your ATLA episodes, and I have to say, this is my favorite video of yours. I love the way you make this anime seem so much more than it already is and I'm amazed at how you are able to make all of the underlying tones of the show come out and show their colors. I love volleyball and have been playing since I was a child, so when I saw this video, it brought back so many amazing memories from my childhood and middle school. You're absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see if you'll cover the upcoming season and manga.
Thank you so much for this!! Finally, someone is able to put it in words! Haikyuu is truly an amazing and inspiring anime I'm glad it's getting the credit it deserves
I remember when I played Basketball I thought I was never cut out until I played the sport, I was so desperate to be like my sister and brother who were into stuff like this while I wasn't. During my short run of sports it was fun but it made me feel like I had to live up to everyone's expectations but both my strengths weren't up to par so I turned to writing which is where I'm strongest at
Run with the wind is another sports anime with great story highlighting the meaning of athletic pursue, If haikyuu is the core fire of competitive sports then run with the wind is the flowing soul of sport imo. I'd love to watch your take on the anime.
This video was done beautifully! You hit on so many points that explain why I love Haikyuu. What I love about Haikyuu, other than the characters and story, is how realistic and relatable it is. I play competitive Volleyball and the emotions and experiences the characters go through in this anime are those I experienced myself. Edit: And I also like how there's focus on many other characters too and not just Hinata and Kageyama. Even players from other teams.
Another awesome work from Sage's rain. As an athlete that has invested more than a decade of my life to a sport, Haikyuu is one of my favorite animes cause I appreciate how it depicts sports. The selfishness of every athlete and the pride each of them has is the very essence of an athlete. The feeling of accomplishment over something that may seem trivial such as improving a bit is presented very well in Haikyuu. Simple things like the burden you put on yourself, the expectations that lead to either disappointment or satisfaction, and the pressure of having people watching you. Haikyuu is very realistic in that sense and I really appreciate it
this philosophy helped me greatly in such a timely way, jus lost my tournament final in soccer but now im finna get back stronger and better!!! Thanks Rainy Sage (I hope that nickname sticks)
Bro your video essays are insanely good AND consistent. You seem like such a grounded and empathic person and that's what sets your videos from the rest! Nice work!
This just dawned on me, but Hinata's emphasis on staying on the court is really similar to Shinsuke Kita's emphasis on "process". They both have a "the result is simply a by-product" mindset, but Hinata's mindset is something like "the result extends the process (being able to play/"stay on the court")"
this video gave me goosebumps so many times as i recalled moments from the show and some from my life damn. this is a beautiful video, thank you for making this.
What I love about "Haikyu" is the way in which the members of opposing teams are portrayed. Unlike many sports dramas, which are just proxies for nationalistic/societal/cultural prejudices, and in which opposing players are portrayed as "the enemy" to be not merely overcome but destroyed, the competition in "Haikyu" is portrayed in all its brutal realism, without dehumanising the opposing players or attributing "evil" intentions to them. They are as vulnerable and as strong as Shoyo, Tobio, and their teammates. And, indeed, from their POV, Karasuno are not a team of scrappy underdogs but a formidable powerhouse rival. Thus we are able to empathise with them even as we cheer on Karasuno. "Haikyu's" great strength is its refusal to simplistically divide the world into "us" and "them".
I don't want to say you're wrong but the other two sports animes I've seen are Hajime no Ippo and Ping Pong the Animation, and both do not have any true "villains" either, only rivals with their own struggles that our heroes must compete against.
Damn this hits close to home after my sophomore year in highschool in which I trained my ass off for 2 years prior only to lose again and again, I ended up hitting a road block when I just couldn't get passed my failures next thing I knew it was my junior year and I quit. I made excuses that were bullshit and yet I still felt that I need to finish what I had started now it's my senior coming up and I just want to go there and be the best that can be.
I loved this video having played 3 sports and still continuing, and about to start a new sport i could honestly really connect with this video, and idc I'll wait as long for takes for a durarara video, awesome video:)
Thank you, Sage. Every time I watch your videos, you always serve to inspire me to pursue new interests and to consider new endeavours to explore. The art style and animation alone is enough to amaze me, but your analysis of this anime only heightens the emotional turmoil that so many people impose upon themselves, while striving for perfection.
mhm. i find this channel zen and relaxing, how you could find deep meaning in small things, keep up the good work! Also, plz make some more naruto content...
mabye the line "To truly enjoy sports, you must be strong." is true. my parents forced me to go to a soccer club because they wanted me to be more active. but tbh, i dont really like soccer, and im not really good at it too. thats one of the reasons why i didnt want to go. mabye if i just get better at the game, i can enjoy it. mabye bokuto was right.
This is my favorite channel. You should watch attack on titan, I'm sure if you did, that you would find tons of content for your channel I see so many possible areas of discussion and nobody talking about them.
Hi, let me first say that i love your videos, i watched pains philosophy and i was amazed, i want to ask you: If you have watched Bleach can you cover 1 character by your liking? Theres a lot of material in Ulquiorra or starrk, the speech kurotsuchi gave when he fought the espada.
