Great video. I’m considering buying this guitar kit and your video was extremely helpful. Thank you.

Glad to help. I really like it. If you've searched around on my channel at all, you can see this guitar has been to Rock n Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame, and Buddy Holly's Birthplace. It get used a lot. Good luck on the build.

Interesting! I haven't tried any CB Gitty kits yet. Of course, doing mods really makes it your own. Well done!

I've done 4 CB Gitty kits now and they're all really well thought out. The Gittylele is probably my favorite kit, but this one is my favorite one to play.

I fixing to build this kit, like you I am putting a humbucker in. Question did you glue the top? I wondered, thinking if anything failed I will not be able to access it, without destroying the kit.

I did glue the top in place and I had the same thought as you. That's precisely why I didn't include volume/tone pots. Less to break in the future. If I did have to remove the pickup jack, it can be done in one piece. Thankfully I didn't get any hum so I didn't have to add a ground wire (I tested that before gluing everything in place). Good luck.

Nicely Done-But..you have pickups (that look like baby humbuckers to me) on that! Would have been nice to hear that little monster amplified and with a slide!

It's funny you say that. Shortly after I posted the build video, I posted this clip. ruclips.net/video/V8-yGwh19iE/видео.html

I just ordered the 3 string version of this kit on CB Gitty's Black Friday sale. I'm very excited to put it together.
A quick question for you. I am planning on leaving it acoustic for now but want to leave the option open to add a pickup later. Did you glue the top down or did you just screw it down? I was hoping to screw it down so I could get inside it easier to add a pickup later. Thanks Kale!

Great question Drew and I'm sure you'll like the Mountain Tenor. I glued mine in place and clamped it, so it would be a hassle to change pickups at this point. However, I think it would be really easy to just drill/countersink a few holes on each side and screw it down instead. I don't see any issues with that approach.

@@musicalmiscellany Thanks! Once I start putting it together hopefully it will become obvious if I can do this. I'll let you know.

I’m very tempted to make one of these after seeing this one, it sounds great. I’m curious though, what is the pole spacing on that pickup? I’ve seen it listed as 12mm but recently saw some conflicting information saying it was 10mm. Any info you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks for watching the video and it is indeed a really nice kit. The pole spacing on this pickup seems to be about 12mm-12.5mm. The string spacing is closer to 9.5mm-10mm. Honestly... it doesn't seem to affect the sound... the pickup sounds fantastic! It just looks a little weird when the poles don't line up with the strings.

@@musicalmiscellany You’ve sold me, I’ve just ordered a pair for a mandolin I’m making. Thanks so much for the info.

How did you do the contrasting staining on the corners and through pieces on the bottom? Very nice.

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  3 года назад

Excellent question. CB Gitty uses a laser cutter to cut the pieces. This leaves a bit of char on the edges of the pieces. If you do a light sand, it comes right off. However, I chose to seal it in so it would become part of the finish.

Is it a bolt on neck or does it glue to other piece

    • @musicalmiscellany

The neck/fretboard attaches to a tenon extending from the body (it runs thru the body and attaches to the tailpiece). The instructions tell you to glue the neck to it, which I did, but I also added a small screw.
