- After over 200 days of work, I stopped working on what I thought was my dream game, but why? I explain in this devlog. My new game, Project Myth, is an roguelike inspired by hollow knight and risk of rain 2, and in this video, I'm covering the first 50 days of development, ending with a brand new bossfight with Ares!

Neat I wanna play it. The feedback when hitting enemies looks especially satisfying.
ur in the game
ayyy devlog 2! We kinda started the same time so its cool to see you make progress along side me. Especially since we have a similar game loop with the waves!
Suggestion for a boss is the Nemean Lion, a golden furred lion that's impervious to attack, and was killed by Hercules via choking it to death.
Movement looks clean 🔥🔥🔥! Idea for mythical creature: In Brazilian folclore we have the Headless Mule, which is a black or brown mule with no head, its neck is constantly spewing fire like the ghost rider and it screams imitating a crying woman.
I love Ares being the weakest boss bc in most Greek Myths despite being a war god he's pretty weak
Yeah, most Greeks didn’t really like the god of bloodshed and stuff, so he got done pretty dirty
Well he is just an immortal dude with a sword. Next to gods who can throw lightnings and control the realm of death etc. who are also immortal he IS weak
Absolutely loving it! You were one of my main inspirations to start a devlog series. The only thing I'd change is the Daitengu's sword, it's really small while it's moving and then the attack is quite big, so it may feel a bit unfair
The Tarasque from France would be pretty neat as a tanky but slow enemy
Fenrir is a giant wolf and a god so I think that would be a good suggestion Fenrir is from Norse mythology
Dream games are usually tricky, very prompt to scope creep.
I'm also building a game that is not my dream game, and creating devlog shorts for it.
I wish you the best of luck.
Fantastic video to watch while procrastinating my own game
In the Indian mythology, there are many creatures that can be used as monsters, however most of them are "vahanas" or rides that the gods use.. I would like some mechanic like that so that you can tame/ride specific creatures that are actually rides of the Indian gods that you subdue
I was thinking about changing the bar below where the items are to the pause menu or below the combo multiplier and use the bar below as an inventory with 3 to 5 slots for things like flasks, one use objects or abilities or even to use active abilities that some items might give you.
This could be great for item variety and cuz i think the items being there dont add much
Really well made video!! Keep it up 😊
Jormangandur or Oroborous would be insanely cool to add if possible
Your the best!
Wow! Thank you for the money
@@ButWhyLevin No problem! I enjoyed watching all of you couch combat devlogs, and this new game is looking good!
9:41 RIP Placeholder Joe 😞😞😞. He was a pretty nice guy, actually.
I think the Flatwoods Monster from West Virginia Myth would be pretty cool
Babaroga from balkan forklor could be a ranegd enemy whit different spells, and azdaja cloud be a miniboss or a stronger enemy(i now my English sucks)
In Flanders, Ossaert is the name of a water ghost known to strangle people. But that’s just one guy and he generally didn’t kill people. In Frisia, there’s a similar story. Unlike the Belgian one, this spirit doesn’t have a personal name but is known as the Grypkagrauw, which means the Grab-you-Grizzle. It’s an invisible forest spirit that comes out at night. It grabs victims by the head and turns it 180 degrees. The myth has it that many people were found like that on early mornings. It is sometimes said to be invincible and has incredible strength but it only attacks from behind.
Looks really cool!
you could add a golem, floating leviathan and behemoths.
the Loaghtan from the Isle of Man is very cool
Put antartican mythology in the game
Love the art style! You should try adding some layered backgrounds, i think that would look sick
Yeah, the background is something I need to improve soon
Some ideas for enemys (most of them i dont know much about apart from the short sum that apears when you search them)
Nuckelavee (Scottish Mythology):
Horrifying sea creatures with the torso of a man fused to a horse, spreading disease and decay.
Draugr (Norse Mythology):
Undead warriors that rise from their graves, becoming very strong but slow.
Jotunn (Norse Mythology):
Giants with immense strength, often wielding massive weapons like clubs or hammers.
Harpies (Greek Mythology):
Winged spirits known for stealing food and souls, attacking in swarms and using their claws.
Rakshasas (Hindu Mythology):
Shape-shifting demons with the ability to cast illusions and powerful magic.
Thats all my ideas for normal monsters then heres some boss/minibosses
Susanoo (Japanese Mythology):
The storm god wielding a powerful sword, able to call upon devastating storms and lightning strikes.
Tiamat (Mesopotamian Mythology):
A primordial sea goddess who can summon sea monsters and use water-based attacks, transforming the arena into a deadly oceanic battlefield.
Yamata no Orochi (Japanese Mythology):
An eight-headed dragon that can attack with multiple elements simultaneously, creating a chaotic combat environment.
Thats all my ideas i hope ya use some
For mythical monsters there the ifrit, a fire spirit
add a shop keeper, and make it before the final boss in the shop, he starts attacking you becoming a boss. after defeating him he drop 5 free random chests
love this
Love the vid! As I am a huge fan of myths and legends (favourite author of all time was Rick Riordan), I would love to play this game. I have only one suggestion for this game which is adding something like the enemies of the gods, for example the Titans in Greek mythology, helping the main character. For example, you can add something like Hyperion's blessing (the titan of light/brightness), which will apply a dazzling status that stuns the enemy for a few seconds, Would be a very cool idea.
Yeah I love Percy Jackson, and I do have some plans for a similar system, but I’ll get to it in a future video, as I’m not entirely sure how it should go yet
What if theres a item that refrences achiles where if you hit the enemies in the lower section of the hitbox it does extra damage?
I would love to see some characters from Chinese myth, like the qilin or Sun Wukong (the Monkey King).
Finally a game whith yokia😊
List of legendary creatures on Wikipedia can give you heaps of enemy ideas
You could have the behemoth and leviathan as bosses or a duel boss were they switch
I really think you should look into mythological creatures from Greenland. They have a lot of zombies and stuff.
Really cool game! Keep going!
this new game is much better keep it up dud
You could add a Kappa from Japanese mythology, or a "Polednice" from Slavic mythology.
my country has a cool myth : de vliegende hollander Translated : The flying dutchman
I think adding some Australian Aboriginal gods like the rainbow serpent and bungle the eagle would be cool. But I’m not sure if it would be insensitive or not
i think u should use only enemie related to the boss of the zone
hard
How did I not know that the swordsmith in demon slayer is based on real stuff
Wendigo are really cool
Here is one from my country :Grootslang.
Make a Jersey Devil! I love the myth.
There are plenty of mythical monsters and folklore creatures you can take from, theoi is pretty great, and Wikipedia have a lot of list pages
may personal advice about the item situation is to look at other roguelike for inspiration, if you want to found a roguelike with a lot of item try
skul the hero slayer
A unicorn because the character is a Man the unicorn is super agressive with him
A good god might be skadi and her wolf
You should check out the Shin Megami Tensei wiki! You'll find multiple interpretations of hundreds of different creatures and gods from a huge range of mythologies
ngl your current games art looks soooo good and your old games art looks inconsistent.
so I would change your old games art style
MUSIC FROM NEON WHITE! WHY?
I LIKE THE MUSIC! THATS WHY!
Very basic but Jötnar/giants could be fun.
Or a swarm of hustomtar (Gnomes).
when next devlog?
It’ll be awhile, been busy lately
Ceyclops, hydras
But why Levin, why did you switch!
The Parthenon doesn't have any bricks and the pillars are white, and also usually the greek gods dont fight just assist the people that they want to win or take descises to hide their true identity. You can just not go by the rules but personally would not recommend 👎 but ok I guess that you want to go with a not correct version. Just make sure that the details that don't effect gameplay are accurate. (Also some details on the sky would help)
You should add a harpy
Make shakchunni
Its a ghoat monster like being in bangla mythology and attack with hair
for a second i thought you stopped working on this game
biblically accurate angel enemy?
spending way too much time reading Mistborn is very understandable
CHUPACABRA
I have but one question... can you parry?... :D
Do baba roga and baba yaga
bro put a terraria enemy and thougt we woudn't see x)
"and spending way to much time reading mistborn"
haha as if, theres no such thing as to much mistborn. especially when you get to age 2 and meet wayne.
I just finished the first era, excited to see what happens next
What about a Weeping Angel? It's not really mythology, but it'd add a unique enemy to the game and I'd think it'd be fun to come up with attacks for!
Hello
why so few views?
I know it is generic, but why not have zombies, I'm pretty sure they originate from Haitian folklore
Yeah, zombies are a must, but I’ll probably pick one of the less traditional versions to mix it up
create the nephilim from the bible.
No one really knows what they are though
Bronze Bulls from Greek mythology, tanky creatures that breathe fire
Poloz from Ukrainian mythology, an evil spirit who takes form of a giant snake
Popobawa from Zanzibar mythology, a cyclops bat that harasses people
Alicorns European/Asian mythology, often believed to be evil creatures
Valac from goetic manuscript, a two headed dragon-like creature, with an angel riding it
Cockatrice from European mythology, a rooster dragon hybrid that breathes venom and temporarily turns people into stone
Buraq from Islam, a horse with human face that was as fast as lightning
Uchchaihshravas from Hinduism, flying horse with seven heads
Typhon from greek mythology, a monster god, father of all monsters, had upon 100 serpents for each of his limbs, and could breathe fire. He also had multiple different wings on his body
Ahuizotl from Aztec mythology, aquatic dog like creature that had a hand for its tail to drown people
Manticore from persian mythology, a lion with human face, wings, and scopion tail. Believed to be an ambushed predator who ate men
Roc from middle eastern mythology, a large bird that was believed to be jinn's master
i don't think it's very nice labeling someone's beliefs as myths 😅
be nice and have some manners 😅
Seems like indie gamedevs always make the same game over and over. I don't see many other genres represented other than platform roguelike metroidvania
