  • In this video I install a short shifter from Monkey Wrench Racing. This kit works on the 9th and 10th Gen Corolla from 2003-2013. This will shorten the throws and and make shifting a joy. The kit comes complete with the aluminum base bushings and everything else that is needed.
There are some tricks to installing one of these and I try to show and explain them along the way. This isn't a difficult installation but take your time and take pictures and video if you need to make sure of the orientation of anything before you remove it.
Pease feel free to ask questions and comment below. This is the 4th one of these that I've installed and I currently have one on my 2009 Corolla S Turbo. This 2009 Corolla S is one that my daughter bought so as I go through it and clean it up I'm improving it too.

Great video, nice and thorough. I'm doing this to my '05 XRS so this will help greatly. I like your method to remove the little plastic clip from the shifter using the vice & punch 👍. Others used pliers which I'm sure is fine. I was going to remove the whole assembly out of if the car but maybe I'll try it this way initially.
Maybe you could post a quick final thoughts video now that you've used it for a while?
    Thanks again 👌

Thanks! This was one that I installed on my daughter's Corolla that she had recently bought used. I've had the same type on my 2009 Corolla Turbo S 5MT for well over 14 years now and it's fantastic. My car still shifts like butter with 130k miles on it but her buying this Corolla S has given me the chance to install a lot of things on hers that I did on mine before I had started my RUclips channel. I do highly recommend a short shift like this though on a Corolla. I've also done the same upgrade to several different 9th Gen Corollas like you have and it was an excellent upgrade. The shifter is basically the same between the 9th, 10th, and 11th Gen Corollas.

@@jimsgaragetoys Oh great so I guess you can say you're and expert at this point! Glad to see there are still enthusiasts that take pride in these cars 👍 I'm looking forward to swapping in my Cosmo Racing short throw shifter..looks just like the Monkey Wrench Racing one...and any eBay one for that matter haha. I also ordered some delrin replacement cable bushings for under the hood ( brass ones would have cost twice the price to ship to me in Canada ) I'm hoping this will be a good combo...that and a some fresh transmission fluid.
Last thing! Have you ever undone the shift boot retaining ring and tried to trim or shorten the OEM leather shift boot? It looks like most short throws leave quite a bit of material sunken into the well of the shifter area.

@@ericlindsey1708 I've actually installed 7-8 of these types of short shifters on Corollas for my cars and some friends. I've never once trimmed a shifter boot. I'm still using the OEM boot on my 2009 Corolla S and it does just fine, it's never bugged me.
