Thank you for addressing this and being frank about it too! I see so many candles being made with dried stuff in them. I've pointed it out so many times and even gotten the "mind your business" type of responses too. Needless to say, they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer!! So in light (pun intended) of that, best to warn the buyers of candles too! 🤷‍♀️

Certainly different ways to make candles so that's why I tried to stay away from blanket statements because there are ways to do things more safely than others. But these are what I stick to personally. :)

I'm now starting to get into candle making now that I have everything I need, and I've been debating on adding herbs/ flowers to some of my candles because I was planning to make candles for a niche part of candle users: pagans/ witches, which the candles I was gonna make were for specific deities and intentions. But now that I've been looking at fragrances, I figured I can just take those fragrances and designate them for species intentions/ deities and then add safe crystals to it.

Many of the videos on Insta/TT are designed for views (same with those 5-minute hacks/crafting ones), but they are produced so often with such clarity that they can create an "air of authenticity." I wish I could say that I did not see countless videos that were similar to your intro, but they are out there with millions of views.
Worse when my favorite niches combine, like dice in candles. Metal dice? Okay, you may risk it heating up and shattering the glass possibly, but I've seen plastic and resin dice embedded.

Did you cover crystals? I advise against this but it seems incredibly popular. Omgn I never thought of that with the sprinkles!! I don't use them but good point they melt into a sugary brown mess. I tested Peppermint EOs and smelled like burning plastic. I only have 2 fully EO candles after lots of testing. It requires way more work to dial in I think. I started putting dried herbs really little amounts far away but then my next batch i quit due to safety precautions. Never any issues but don't want any either! Love your videos Wade, thanks!

Q - I've seen some retailers offer some tealights with TONS of dried botanicals and I'm wondering, is it proper to reach out and explain to them briefly these are a safety hazard and hint hint I'd be happy to help you find a replacement? It scares me what I see sometimes!

    • @BlackTieBarn

You can if you want but tread lightly. You don't want them to think you are just trying to dismiss others work in order to get their business. Nor do you want them to think you are insulting them. It can be tricky to navigate that.

hello, thank you for explaining :)
I was thinking about this question for a while, how can I make my own soy wax sprinkles?
I didn't find molds for them and the ones that is available online to buy are either expensive or would take to long to receive them.
Its easier to make them myself, but I can't figure out how to make them to look nice. I tried making them by using piping bag by drawing lines and then cut them or split them ( making some space "like this - - - - " ) but I didn't like how they looks like. can you recommend for us a better way or the best technique

question for a future video. if i was wanting to try mix say 464 soy and igi 1230 paraffin to get a custom wax blend, would that be safe to do, or do you think that may be unpredictable with different batches? also how would you determine the FO percentage with the difference. i assume just find the average between the 2. thanks in advance.
