Thank you for addressing this and being frank about it too! I see so many candles being made with dried stuff in them. I've pointed it out so many times and even gotten the "mind your business" type of responses too. Needless to say, they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer!! So in light (pun intended) of that, best to warn the buyers of candles too! 🤷♀️
Certainly different ways to make candles so that's why I tried to stay away from blanket statements because there are ways to do things more safely than others. But these are what I stick to personally. :)
Most insurers won't allow dried botanical in candles at all. Trouble is, too many sellers aren't insured to begin with!
💯
We are just starting out with candles and are definitely interested in the insurance aspect for our business. Any insurers that you would recommend?
Thanks 🙂
True and mine wont do lotion candles
@@lisaguzzardi Probably because they would be classed as skin care.
@@timothymartin5793 Liberty Mutual is the name I keep hearing. The quote I got was $500 per year.
Perfect! I couldn't live with myself if I chose pretty/sales over someone's health or home!🔥 SAFETY 1ST!
❤️💯
The intro!! 🤣🤣🤣. Great video❤️
Glad you liked it!!
I have not come across a video of yours that I didn't enjoy Wade. You are in my top 3, and I love your content. Thank you!
Thanks so much
As always great advice. I think I’d err on the safe side. Fire always serves you best when it’s not burning your house down. Just a life lesson I picked up. 😂
Lol yep
Oh my gosh..., that intro is to die for! 😄 I've been trying so hard to be safe with materials to use, with the time I have, and it seems there's just not enough time for testing! Especially when I see some "pretty" ingredients, and I think that "pretty" is such a fire hazard!! I swear every one of your videos are made just for me, and I appreciate every one!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lol. Thank you. :)
I love the intro!!! So funny!!!!
🤣 thanks
That tee is 🔥🔥🔥, Wade!
Thanks man!
I'm now starting to get into candle making now that I have everything I need, and I've been debating on adding herbs/ flowers to some of my candles because I was planning to make candles for a niche part of candle users: pagans/ witches, which the candles I was gonna make were for specific deities and intentions. But now that I've been looking at fragrances, I figured I can just take those fragrances and designate them for species intentions/ deities and then add safe crystals to it.
Thanks for the insights, definitely something that I haven't thought about yet! Just starting my candle making research, and deciding if it's right for me down the road. Appreciate all the help!
Rubber Duckie was not harmed in the making of this video 😂
🤣🤣
Many of the videos on Insta/TT are designed for views (same with those 5-minute hacks/crafting ones), but they are produced so often with such clarity that they can create an "air of authenticity." I wish I could say that I did not see countless videos that were similar to your intro, but they are out there with millions of views.
Worse when my favorite niches combine, like dice in candles. Metal dice? Okay, you may risk it heating up and shattering the glass possibly, but I've seen plastic and resin dice embedded.
Oh yah. I definitely see some crazy candles as well... especially on timtok. Lol
Thank you I'm going to be a candle maker and you help me a lot 😊😊😊😊Dora
You’re welcome 😊
I bought cd wicks right size for candle im happy with them thankyou Wayne yr videos helped me alot
❤️
Thank you so much Wade for this video. I was thinking about this recently. I have been making candles since 2003 and sometimes what you see online today is surprising. 😮
You're welcome!
Very well said as always
Thank you!
Oh my goodness!! That intro is hilarious!!😂
😁🤣
I've seen all-out wars on Facebook over whether or not it's safe or not to add botanicals to candles....I just sit back, read the comments, eat some popcorn, and stay out of it LOL
😁🤣 I mostly do the same
I love watching ur videos I’ve been making candles for about 7 months now I was making soaps but now just started making candles I’ve had a few issues as it’s hot here in Australia but u have gave me some helpful hints thank u from Tina
Thanks Bailey!
Great video as always! I appreciate all of your videos, as we are learning about this new aspect to hopefully add to our small melt business.
Awesome. Thanks sir!
That was so funny. Love it.
❤️ thank you!
Congrats for the tips and thanks for inspiring me.
You bet!
Thank you for sharing and for the great advice 😀
Any time!
Okay Wade, you made my ears perk up! Am I to believe there is really a candle safe Mica?
Yes. Just don't use to much
I'm with you, why, why take risks. I've seen recently, a lot of questionable containers!
❤️
The intro…the entire video, lol. I’m dying…but before my demise, I gotta know: are you SINGLE? Haha. Love ya buddy! 💓
🤣
Did you cover crystals? I advise against this but it seems incredibly popular. Omgn I never thought of that with the sprinkles!! I don't use them but good point they melt into a sugary brown mess. I tested Peppermint EOs and smelled like burning plastic. I only have 2 fully EO candles after lots of testing. It requires way more work to dial in I think. I started putting dried herbs really little amounts far away but then my next batch i quit due to safety precautions. Never any issues but don't want any either! Love your videos Wade, thanks!
Thanks Rachael. I briefly mentioned crystals as there are some candle Safe ones. But I didn't make any sweeping statements about them. It just depends
That was a really cool into LOL!!
Do you sell that T-shirt? I like it.
Great and informative video thank you for the tips 😁👍🏽
I am thinking of adding some designs soon, yes. I make new stuff all the time for my shirts, hats, mugs, and wall prints. Lol
@@BlackTieBarn Awesome! please let me know, I want that shirt 🧐☺
Rubber ducky😂! I love your T-shirt
I do have a question: how about adding eco-glitter on the top the candle?
Yah that way mentioned as well. It's like color and Micah. It's fine if it's candle safe and you don't use too much.
Could you do a video on the Ultra Core wick??
Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊
Q - I've seen some retailers offer some tealights with TONS of dried botanicals and I'm wondering, is it proper to reach out and explain to them briefly these are a safety hazard and hint hint I'd be happy to help you find a replacement? It scares me what I see sometimes!
You can if you want but tread lightly. You don't want them to think you are just trying to dismiss others work in order to get their business. Nor do you want them to think you are insulting them. It can be tricky to navigate that.
I ❤❤❤❤ the mario music when he dies
With a 9oz straight side jar and IGI6006, is a Premier 730 a good place to start testing? Decided to give the wicks you supply a try to see how they perform.
I think you will need larger. I'd test the ranges of 745 through 765
hello, thank you for explaining :)
I was thinking about this question for a while, how can I make my own soy wax sprinkles?
I didn't find molds for them and the ones that is available online to buy are either expensive or would take to long to receive them.
Its easier to make them myself, but I can't figure out how to make them to look nice. I tried making them by using piping bag by drawing lines and then cut them or split them ( making some space "like this - - - - " ) but I didn't like how they looks like. can you recommend for us a better way or the best technique
I don't really do them myself much but check out my video on dessert candles with AJ. I think he talks about them a bit. I'll add it to my list though. :)
question for a future video. if i was wanting to try mix say 464 soy and igi 1230 paraffin to get a custom wax blend, would that be safe to do, or do you think that may be unpredictable with different batches? also how would you determine the FO percentage with the difference. i assume just find the average between the 2. thanks in advance.
What about botanicals in wax melts? No flame, so…
I would think generally speaking is fine but friend on how hot the Melter gets I suppose
What about cinnamon sprinkled on top?
To me its similar to fire beans or springs in that fact that it's usually just fine. By it can potentially affect the wick and cause a burning smell. Just test. :)
Witches brew..😂😂 I see this all the time! Sometimes, I just shake my head. Not hating on anyone who uses a bunch of extra crap in their candles, but not for me.
❤️
What about difuser oils ?
Most diffuser oils are essential oils so it would follow the same discussion. Depends. :) i supposed it would really depend on the specific diffuser oils
I remember the one time I put small flowers in my candles because it looked Pretty (lol) I would never do that again the flame was getting close to the flowers and I blew the out right away. It’s nice looking but very dangerous!!!!🔥🔥Fire hazard
❤️
How about crystals? I know some people put crystals on the edge of their candles.
Hey Melissa. Yep, those are mentioned in the video. Usually fine
@@BlackTieBarn that's what I get for listening to your videos while making candles instead of watching them like I usually do🤦♀️
Haha. I do it all the time! Besides.... I won't be mad if you watch them all twice. 🤣
@@BlackTieBarn I do watch some of your videos multiple times because there either entertaining or informing.
People are just trying to get too fancy or be too trendy. Why do we need any of this? I'm not going to purchase one candle over another because of the extra unnecessary add ins that don't enhance the scent or function. Just give me a nice simple pleasant candle!!
👍
