This dude rocks, like, actually. I'm super interested in this series, and how you are able to face and tackle ever growing challenges with these two cars. I'm cheering from the sidelines all the way!
Very kind, thank you!
Matt just use a signal generator and receiver so you will know where it runs (bundle, etc.) and ends. Then just run a new wire instead of tearing apart the interior!! Just think there may be an easier way!
Came here for the Porsche content, stayed for the squeaky jack noises.
Hahaha, I thought that was why everyone stays?
If it’s squeaky when you jack it, you need to add some lubrication.
Hi Matt
I personally replaced around ten bodyworks of Porsche 996/997 GT3, GT2, and Turbo... I actually first removed all the front and rear mechanics, and then the complete interior to extract the electrical harness with its components and removed the reinforcement support under the dashboard, the steering column and pedal assembly, and reassembly of the harness in the new body, then all the piping, the fuel tank and lastly the mechanics....this methodology was taught to me then. of my training.
Good luck for the future
continue this excellent work, it’s educational and rewarding
Thanks! That may be the route I go then. I really didn't want to do interior yet but might have to!
Removing the interior is the FIRST step you should have done, it gives you access to the rest of the cars wiring and bolts!! Keep up the great work, Im enjoying your builds!!
Eeehhhh I REALLY want to do that last if possible. So many bits and pieces that will be a pain. And I don't really have a place to store it.
Poor baby!!
Yep get that carpet out will make things so much easier
One of the best things about Porsche is the amount of after market parts , due to the serious beating those strut towers look to have taken you can get real nice reenforced caps with a cross bar , I'm sure you know an will have lots of decisions to make on this awesome build . This is a big build for two guys so just you doing it is admirable no doubt.. lol smh that squeaky jack bit was funny as hell...
Hey Matt, great to see the progress on fixing those strut holes. You’re doing so much hard work on this car that you are really going to appreciate it and deserve it when it’s done. Good job!
I have rebodied a Porsche Macan. If this is the same, that wiring is part of the main body harness and you need to strip the entire interior to get it out. Also, good practice to torque every bolt as you go. When you are weeks into the build you will never remember or find all the bolts you 'temporarily' installed and left loose.
Interior will come next ish I think.
Awesome work, Matt. At least that wasn't as bad as the black one to fix. You're going to know so much about Porsche engineering when you're done
Much respect to you and your back making this video. My disc slipped watching you mess with that wire harness.
Just when I think it's time for a cliff launch, Matt not only comes up with a solution but makes it look easy as well. Nice! If I had a neighbor like Matt I'd buy a 993 or 964.
Haha come be my neighbor then!
I would do the wiring harness next. It's one of the first thing to go in when a car is being built. I also believe that floor jacks squeaking is a some sort of requirement.
I felt that curse at about 7 minutes. I think everyone who’s done any type of work on a car knows that feeling all too well.
Cannot believe you are rebuilding a Porsche 911 all by yourself in your own home.. also doing a better job than most mechanics! Keep up the great work!
Thanks!
Absolutely love your perfectionism and your editing isn’t too bad …..keep it up young man I always look forward to your vids
Been watching this guy almost from the beginning of his channel. He absolutely works his butt off and deserves more subscribers. Any problem he always figures out, just great car guy content
Thanks so much! Let’s get those subs rolling in (been asking for years lol)
Consider covering any glass when you're grinding or welding to prevent sparks burning into it.
I already broke the windshield lol
I’m in this series with you until the end Matt, but I think you’re going to regret not taking this car to a frame shop to at least find out a repair cost. Swapping over the harness and all the support systems seems easy until you have to put it all back together. Edit-doesn’t Rennline sell a monoball alignment hat you could use instead of further bastardizing those top hats?
I don't think it will be easy at all lol. But, it's good for RUclips and a good story to tell with the car.
Good luck my friend. I’ve rebuilt a couple wrecked Caymans as race cars (MUCH easier) and I will never do it again. I could definitely never do it on camera as there would be far too much profanity. My advice is to to get access to a PIWS and an actual chassis-specific Porsche shop manual. You’re going to need it.
The camera stuff makes it all take twice as long.
Really nice job welding! I have the exact same welder. It will do in a pinch but not the greatest. Looks great!
It does the job!
I don’t understand how you don’t have a million subs yet. This content is gold
Hahah, I'd settle for 100k!
Yeah, I was gonna say welding would be the only way to fix those holes. You do a good job Matt, keep up the good work.
Thanks 👍
I would have welded in a "coin" patch, but I guess this works well too, and you don't need to go find the same material.
You should just tow the frame to paint, will be cheaper. If all they have to do is spray the work is cut in half.
Great welding work, Matt. Always comes in handy when you gotta fix other people's mistakes.
Yup! If only I had more time to practice and get good at it lol.
@@matt13ross do like me and buy a rusted out one. Then you can practice all day long. 😂
Hhhhheeellll no lol
Not a lot of people out there that are proud to admit they worked on their Porsche with a Chicago electric HF special. 😂
Hell of job man! It ain’t the tools but the mechanic. 👌🏻
Haha you’re probably right!
Dog you're a G for welding them strut mounts! Came out really good too!
Hi Matt. Thanks for another great video. Love the squeaky floor jack and just fitting the suspension and wheels shows good progress. Keep at it.👍
Hey Matt! First off, thanks for your hard work and videos. As someone whose in the middle of restoring a MKIV Supra - I’ve hit some major roadblocks along the way and wanted to throw in the towel. However, after watching your videos they def get me psyched to go and give things another try - so thanks for that. Also, I can’t believe you’re doing this yourself - I was holding my breath when you were swapping some of the parts and hit the jack stands 😮 be safe man. If you ever need extra hands, I’m no master mechanic but am happy to help - I’m near Pittsburgh.
Glad to hear you’ll get back to wrenching! And Pittsburgh is a great city
@@matt13ross Thanks man - ya, I’m back and on to the next issue now 😂 getting there though. Aren’t you in PA or am I making that up?
Yea I’m close to Harrisburg ish
Nothing is easy when it comes to Automobile Wiring,.. As I have said before Jack Daniels was my friend in these kinds of situations. Good Luck, I'll keep watching all your videos.
I ve done this type of a restoration/swap 3 times on Porsches before. Sad to say the wiring harness goes in first. Good luck
That will be next I think
This is super impressive to see a true one man show. Kudos to you and keep up the great work1 Can't wait to continue watching your builds!
Great work! You may it look doable but I know it’s a lot of hard work and frustration.
Still would do a celette table on the first car. But i guess that would cut a lot of content out and I enjoy watching the process.
Too late!
Hi matt I think it would be worth putting your yellow car outside and cover it up and then have your new shell next to your donor car and transfer the bits as you go. When a car first goes down a production line the main body harness is one of the first items to be fitted along with any bungs and patches to the body shell then brake pipes brake booster fuel lines and then the dash glass and interior trim parts. Good luck
You really should think of welding plates in at those strut mounts. They look good, but there are areas that are softer/harder than the material around them. This will create stress concentrations which could result in cracks and eventual failure. Welding plates in to spread the load to the surrounding virgin sheet metal will be much safer.
I’m not too concerned at this point. If they crack, I’ll do some sort of reinforcement.
Great build series! Loved the 996 and stoked for the 997. All in so far on both cars has to be over six figures. Might be a good video idea to share your funding secrets. Us project car wannabe’s could benefit from your knowledge.
Funding is just me saving money, working OT, and making some on the side with RUclips.
Glad to hear you are not raiding your 401K or cashing out equity in your house. Just purchased a 997 t-shirt to help defray some costs. Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks for the support! Hope you love the shirt!
Gosh that’s a daunting task with that wiring😅.. definitely good angles for the welding, my favorite was the butt weld👌🏻😉🤣
Hhahaha
I don’t know if it’s too late but it might be a lot easier to build a transport rack on four casters like how it was delivered that way you could get it sprayed completely then add all wiring and subframe
Nice job dude. I haven't been this excited for a youtube restoration since uh.. well your last one.
Hahah awesome!
How does it feel to have so many positive comments on every video? What a great measure of your content! Another great episode.
Thank you! I do love the positive comments for sure!
My favorite build is back! Keep up the great work Matt, wish you were in Texas so I could come help out!
I'd love more help! lol
Definitely feel like you should paint the car towards the end that way it’s not getting scratched up while working on the car
I agree but not sure yet.
Good for a cliff-hanger reveal, but not really possible if you want to do a first class job with all the jambs, trunks, and engine compartments matching. And with this being a swap-over instead of a custom build, it's not like there should be weld-ins or changes later which would ruin the paint.
I give you all the respect doing it all yourself. Keep up the awesome work!!!
Thank you! Will do!
Another home run of a video! Looking forward for the engine and transmission mounting.
Looking forward to that as well, but not as much as paint!
Impressed by how calm you handle all this (or fake it). I’m overwhelmed just watching
Haha, no faking here
A small person would say "I told you so" about just having the old chassis professionally straightened and repaired.
I am that small person.
LOLOLOL where would the fun be in that??
Your "fun" has barely begun.
Love all the hard work! Have done similar jobs in small garage without car lift! Its a grind 😁
Matt did I say that you are crazy out of your mind......but hey I say that with total respect !!!!
Crazy, yes! Lol
Do you take pics as you go as a means of having a reassembly guide when you put everything back together?
Yup, and video (obviously lol)
There was a point during the grinding & welding that I thought I was watching an 80s movie with a voice-over. 😅
Haha
Great job on both the video/editing and the car(s)!
Thank you! 🤗
Super impressive! I’m a newish (came onboard better than halfway through the yellow turbo) follower, but wow! Good for you for “going for it!” Very inspirational to a shade tree mechanic like myself. Still, on a job this big, better you than me! Lol!!
Thanks for watching! It is a big job for sure lol.
I'm half newish. On my mother's side.
LOL
@plus790 - Hilarious!! Everyone’s a comedian!
I start to love this project now! its going pretty good and faster than i expected
Good to hear!
do future Matt a favor and label connectors on the harness as you take things apart
Yes, planning on it!
That car has a long way to go..but you did a good job..way to keep pushing along man..🔧👍🏽🏁
Thanks 👍
Politeness informative funny really enjoying these vids can’t wait for the next one don’t lose faith keep em coming 👍👍👍🙏
Didn't actually manage to lower the volume of Tv BEFORE the sqeaking jack noises, sooo...my wife woke up, my dog woke up, and also my newborn baby woke up.
WORTH IT!
Hahaha, whoops!
I 've noticed something on the front brakes rotors, i think they are not installed correctly , the ventilated rotors seem reversed, this way they will not cool down properly !
Sry my english btw :D ^^
Hrm, I'll look into that!
Amazing job on the strut tower man
Matt, Are you planning to have the orange chassis painted? Maybe now is the time.
Yes. Sooner rather than later
Its good for the record and the experience after all of this i don't think theres anything that you can't aim and achieve brotha keep it up
That's true, you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it!
great - now I've got arc-eye because you didn't tell me to look away! 🤣
seriously though, great job - it's really starting to come together.
Hahaha
Curious why you didn't simply unbolt and remove the left strut and slide the subframe underneath and re-bolt it back in place rather than struggling to lift the car higher?
I guess I found it easier to move the car up a little rather than remove the strut.
On his wheels, great job matt, and a good video 👍👍
I’ll be completely honest here since I’m a long time viewer.
Imo, I’d liked to see something other than a 996. I really enjoyed the yellow turbo build… but this one seems kind of repetitive, so i find it hard to watch an entire episode on it.
Something air cooled would’ve been super cool to see.
Just something to keep in mind for a next build. Keep it up
This is a 997 though lol
If you can't open the hood all the way because of the garage door, why not just remove it? To make life easier, pull out the 996TT and park the orange car in its spot in the garage. Easier to transfer parts when its side by side
I will but was planning on waiting until it was time for paint.
Guess its good that you didn't spend that $75 at a hardware store to build a dolly to paint the body.
Hi Matt. God that wiring loom looks like hard work lol. That Welding looks Mint. I know your not great at welding but you did a perfect job with fixing those holes bro. 😅. The Car is looking away better with the Front put back together and the Strut tower. At least She's rolling on her own again. Great Progress buddy. Great job. Chat soon 😅😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮
Thanks so much!
@@matt13ross Your so welcome Matt. Your doing a fantastic job mate
From the factory, the front tub is not painted. It is E-primered
Ah. Well someone primed it before me
Starting to think fixing the crashed car's quarter panel and body issues would have been way easier.
Meh. I don’t have the ability to fix the frame or graft on the quarter panel.
Keep it up !! I look forward to your videos. Great build series
okay, since you already had a welder, why didn't you just make a chassis dolly instead of swapping the suspension? Metal tubing is cheap and 4 caster wheels would be too.
The suspension needs to be swapped anyway. BUT, I may still make one.
I didnt expect another video for like a month, not like 2 more in a week.
Surprise! Good though, right?
Magic Matt with a bit of flash dance mixed in 🤣 👍
lol
Why not clip the wires and install a plug between the tank? If you can't fish them.
I didn’t want to snip any wires.
Believe me, you are a special dude, I would have been driven to alcohol long time ago 🥴
Id put some collars on another top hat. Install it in with a jack or stump and weld those in.
Like collar washer for the studs
Why do you suggest that?
Very nice work.
Do you think those welds will hold when you hit some bumps once the suspension is fully loaded and running?
I sure do. The metal is thick there and I got good penetration.
Impressive. Enjoy watching your work.
Great video Matt
You’re the man….super impressed!!!
I didn’t like what you did to the top hats , I would not have confidence in that repair , love your channel though and always look forward to a new chapter
Why not?
Hey Matt really enjoy your videos they are actually quite awesome......BUT you are insane Buddy absolutely insane. Don't take it wrong I say it in the most amazed way.
I know it might seem like missions, but why didn’t you just leave the fuel tank out for now, and just put the front suspension in, then take it out again after the paint to put the fuel tank back inside?
The front subframe and suspension install is not easy. I don't want to have to do it twice.
@@matt13ross makes sense, i was just curious but i get you…
Great channel!! What wheels are these? I really liked them
Not sure, they came with the car on slicks
If you repair the old chassis you end up with two Porches instead of one 😉
Not enough parts to complete both lol
You should have painted the shell and coated the underbody before putting anything back.
Underbody is good to go. It will be painted before it’s back together but needs to roll first
Love this! Keep up the good work. From London!
Mat is getting very handy handling the porsche's big balls 😅😅
Lol
Looking Good Matt Cant wait to see more of this series
I can see him getting a Panamera just for a family car
Nooo don’t like those lol. A GT3 or 4 though yes please!
Great job and great content man, really enjoyable to watch 👌🏼
Appreciate it!
Hope that’s not a good windscreen, hot metal off grinder will kill it
No it’s already broken
Great job dude 👍
Impressive, respect señor.
She's a Roller!
Yup! Now just needs, well, everything else.
Great job
Nice work Matt 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
With you til the end. Great job!🎉🎉🎉
Glad to hear it!
Nice work ❤️ 👍🏼
This is brilliant, loving it 👌
