If you turn off the boiling water and allow the temperature to drop for 10 seconds before you add the tea bags you will find the tea will be less bitter. Tea brews best at 95°C at the start and allow it to steep for 5 minutes without additional heat. From a black tea addicted Brit.
You look like my grandfather, so much actually that it lightens up my mood every time you appear on my front page. Thank you, good sir, and keep doing what you're doing!
I like infusing the zest of the lemon in with the simple syrup. It gives it a much nicer and more lemonier flavour. You can just strain the zest out when you're mixing everything together.
I literally went yey and felt relief when i seen you had uploaded. Your videos are like a big comforting hug...n i cant tell u how much i need that right now. So thanks 😊
Baking Soda!! I never thought to try that 😮 The tea i make at home is quite similar, actually! I typically make 6 cups of hot water, brew the tea, THEN add the sugar and lemon. Thank you for teaching folks to make simple syrup, very useful technique
my grandpee died a few months ago and it really messed with me, every time i think about him i burst into tears but this video made me happy, you remind me of him so thank you
I love making iced tea in the summer! So refreshing. I do this reciepe that steeps fewer tea bags for a couple hours and then adding lemon and sugar. Tea flavour is admittedly strong but I love it
Adding a little baking soda to your tea will clear away any cloudiness left from the mixing process, and it's also thought to cut down on any lingering bitter tastes from the steeping tea bags, leaving your tea clarified and smooth and providing your get-together with one fantastic pitcher of tea.
@@sourgummiez It has nothing to do with neutralizing the acidity from the lemon juice? You can do the same thing with pasta sauce. It’s basic organic chemistry people!
@@thewhyteelephant1900 thank you so much ♥️ I'm watching your videos with my dad and it cheers him up too! Which I'm really thankful for, since we've had a bad time since my mom passed. You're a lovely gentleman and your recipes are dope! Thank you for bringing a smile to our faces :)
This recipe looks pretty simple and definitely refreshing! Not that you're looking for extra work, but have you considered peeling the lemons before juicing them first, adding them to the sugar and letting them extract their oils into the sugar for anywhere between an hour and a day? A pseudo-oleo saccharum, if you will?
Probably to neutralise the acid. It’s important to use Baking soda though and not baking powder since baking powder also contain other ingredients, so they’re not interchangeable
Black tea is also fairly acidic, however acidity is not unhealthy, drinking mixtures that are highly basic can be just as dangerous. For most healthy adults that small amount of lemon juice per serving is completely fine. He and his wife seem elderly and as you age your body can have a more difficult time regulating your bodies natural pH

You’re reading my mind lol! I came to the comments to get this same question answered. lol I was like, “baking soda, what does that do??” 😊
Also, the tea and lemon is acidic so adding baking soda would alkaline it

That looks very good also why did you add baking soda to the sweet lemon ice tea?
Probably to neutralise the acid. It’s important to use Baking soda though and not baking powder since baking powder also contain other ingredients, so they’re not interchangeable
raises the pH since fresh lemon is pretty acidic
probably to make it less acidic

It reduces bitterness and cloudiness. 😀
