Dear Julia. At 51 I'm preparing for my first competition ever on the ice. I find your video to be so inspiring. I hope you are okey with me using some of your steps in my program. I will be sure to send you my moment of glory at the end of January 2023. I hope that it will inspire more adults to try this amazing sport. Not necessarily to compete but to enjoy in their own way. It's never too late. Love from Sweden./Jenny
I love how you make a simple program look so lovely. I am an older adult skater. I watched your program over and over and then tried it on the ice. Thank you! I feel inspired.
Thank you SO much for this!!!!! I have been searching for a tutorial for a skating program for so long. So happy someone finally made one. Can't wait to try it!
i love this! can you perhaps make a tutorial video of how to skate in inline skates maybe turns or spins or crossovers? Because for some reason I cant really do it when I could do it on the ice
Coach Julia I hope you know how amazing you are. I can’t believe the work you put into all of your videos. You never cease to amaze me. As a former dance teacher and a beginner skater I can truly appreciate all of your hard work. Much ❤ and admiration to you from Kentucky.
Thank you so much for this video! It's amazing! I hope you will do such kind of videos more. And it would be great if you could do a video with step sequence for beginners ☺️
😊Wow julia, your figure skating dress is beautiful and your program is really good! And julia, I wish I can have the same figure skating dress as yours!😊
You've been giving me a goal--to be able to do that program. The classes I'm taking use the Learn to Skate USA "Adult" sequence. I'm currently nearing completion of Adult 5 (Need to tighten up my Forward Outside 3-turn, and get a bit more consistent with the two-foot spin) so I'm still not ready to do a number of those techniques yet and the "Adult" sequence doesn't cover jumps at all. My instructors are aware of my desire to continue with Free Skating once I complete the Adult program and so they've been working a bit with stuff that isn't covered in the adult curriculum and have been working with me on some of the things not covered: Forward Inside Mohawks, and Forward Spirals being two at the moment. As always, it's always great to see your videos both as a reminder of what my own instructors have told me (I can't keep all of it in my head) and also for a somewhat different perspective to some things which can help if I'm just not "getting" what they're telling me. So, once again, thank you. And I'll probably keep thanking you until you get sick of hearing it. ;)
I hope you have great success with learning this program! I am always surprised and a little saddened when I hear of adult programs that treat adult skaters as an afterthought. So it makes me happy to know that your instructors are giving you some extra skills and challenges.
Such a delightful little program. My beginner skill levels are nowhere close to being able to do this but it was lovely to watch you. All your videos have been so helpful. Thank you for sharing and teaching your ⛸ knowledge. Have a merry, blessed Xmas🎄☃️ Good health n success to you.
Wonderful work as ever Julia, fantastic video, clear, simple, well explained. 👏👏 🙌. I thought it was a really nice touch also with the showcase routine that you threw in at the end, which was great for showing that visual transformation from the training environment to performance environment. A great illustration of what people should be working towards with that final product. Well done 🙌
Thank you so much, Yeah, I find teaching in small chunks, with lots of repetition helps when I am teaching beginner students their programs. When I have more advanced students I expect that they don't need as much repetition, but I still like to teach choreography in small pieces.
@@CoachJulia Agreed! I also always start from beginning when learning a new choreography with beginners, with more advanced students I divide program in few segments, usually 3. Once they learn every segment, then we practice the whole program from beginning but often I mix the segments, just to be sure they know them good, for example 2, 1, 3... I also encourage them to start from a different place, for example if the program starts from the centre, little to the right when facing judges, I sometimes ask them them to start from centre to the right but facing the audience on the other side... That often knows to confuse them but it's great for developing a good orientation and also great for learning to jump in other places, anywhere in the ice rink, it builds their confidence.
Thank you for this video!❤ I just started skating (not on ice, but inline skating is kinda similar) and for now my goal is to nail this program. I hope you will post more such tutorials 😊
Oh I love that you are doing it on inlines! I know not everyone has ice where they are, or even prefers Ice over wheels. I would love to see your program once you get the moves down!
Just coming back to skate again after a 2-year hiatus. I love your video. This is great!! I will use my aging brain to memorize your simple but beautiful choreography to practice. You made my day! Thank you
I love this! Please do more mini programs! I found you googling beginner skating choreography and I am subscribing now 😊 I love that it’s customizable to skill level. Trying this out and I look forward to your next program- you’re a good teacher!
Could you make a video on backwards skiis/wiggles? I see so many coaches do it in videos but I cant find a tutorial on it, I don't know the proper term for it but it looks so graceful!
Great idea this choreo! I wish I could make my version and post it but our rink is closed again, till at least December 15th :( Miss the ice, my training and my students...
Oh what a bummer that your rinks are closed. Maybe if things go well you will have a few days where you could get a program together in time. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. 😁
I love the idea of getting us all do a program for the festival, especially in this year that the majority of us didn’t get much lessons physically.❤️I’ll see if I can try this program and participate the event, though I’m probably only able to do the bare minimum elements😋Happy holidays! Thank you for all the nice tutorials, I have been using the exercises you recommended on the three turns and they are getting better.
Thank you! I’m going to be in my first competition soon and this routine is very petty but a little harder than what I can do at the moment. Do you have any advice for first time competing?
I'm a little too late for your Christmas show collaboration. But I do have my very first competition coming up in the fall. I could REALLY use some tips and pointers on how to do well. I'm extremely nervous and stressed out. I've never really done any physical competitions before. (Just vocal competitions because I'm also a singer.) Anyway my biggest issue with my program is that I have trouble moving from one side of the rink to the other in just a very short amount of time. Do you have any tips on how I could try to speed up that process a little bit more? I'd really appreciate your help.
Absolutely!!! Definitely customize this program to your own skating abilities. I am so looking forward to seeing what creative moves you come up with!!
Loooooove mini programs helping us connect skills together!
So glad you like the idea!
