Hi Aimee! I’m a roller figure skater and I wanted to say that the last few years, in the roller skating community, solo dance has become HUGE. Like, there still free skate skaters, however, now most of the skaters choose solo dance. People say is because they can achieve to a international level sooner. I don’t know if is actually true, but in my opinion is so beautiful to watch. In Argentina, the top nacional solo dance skater is Delfina Veljanovich. Worldwide there are Rebecca Sasso (Italy) and Erika Alarcon (Paraguay). Honestly, the three of them are majestic to watch.
I hope you like them! Nice videos! 🫶🏼🩷🛼

Solo dance is becoming more common in ice skating too! It's a wonderful option for many skaters!

True! Especially if you don’t like jumps or, like a skater I know said “I started solo dance because I wasn’t good at free skating but I love the sport”. What I love about solo dance is the interpretation and the artistic aspect of it

Skating and its rules have become a lot more complicated than it used to be. However, it is a good idea that a skater learn both the man's and the ladies parts for dance at the onset because it will help them a lot later. With all of these changes, skating has also become a lot more expensive if you are competing, not that it was ever inexpensive.

Can you test solo ice dance like how you can test MITF/ skating skills tests?

    •  3 дня назад +1

Yes! However, unlike MITF/skating skills tests, you test each dance separately and pass the level only once you have passed all the dances for that level.

Skating (organ) music is the best!!!!!! The organ is the original instrument of the roller rink.
Figures are the foundation of dance, and dance is the foundation of freestyle.

Awesome video! Solo ice dance has been difficult for me to navigate as a freestyle skater, but I'm excited to learn. Are there music requirements for solo freedance? Does the music for solo FD have to be a certain bpm, or is that only for pattern dance? Thanks in advance! :)

    •  8 месяцев назад +1

All the requirements for the season are in the Solo Dance Handbook. For free dances, music must have an audible rhythmic beat with the exception of 10 seconds at the beginning of the program.

Does it matter if you are right or left handed?

    •  Год назад +4

For solo dance? That wouldn't make any difference. Everyone skates the same patterns in the same direction. There are no jumps. Twizzles are bilateral. Spins in free dances can be in either direction.

are there age requirements for comp levels? like intermediate being under 18 in singles, juvenile under 14.

    •  2 месяца назад +1

For test qualifications for qualifying competitions, see the National Qualifying Series Athlete Handbook. Test qualifications for nonqualifying SIngles (Free Skate) events must be met by closing date of entries. Age as of the July 1 that immediately precedes the relevant competition:
Juvenile: 12 year of ages or younger for girls; 13 years of age or younger for boys.
Open Juvenile: 13 years of age or older for girls. 14 years of age or older for boys.
Intermediate: Age as of the July 1 that immediately precedes the relevant competition: Under age 18.
      See Rule 6000.

just to clarify l mean in solo ice dance comps not singles. Are age requirements the same for solo ice dance as singles?

    •  2 месяца назад +2

There are age requirements for Ice Dance in the Rule Book. As hard as I look, I cannot seem to find anything in the way of age requirements for Solo Dance. The handbook doesn't have anything that I can find either. Of course, that doesn't mean I haven't missed something or that the age requirements for partnered Ice Dance don't apply to Solo Dance. I encourage you to check the rule book and with your coach.
