Drove by there today and thought, looks like where a mall once was.
And sure enough here I am. Thanks for posting.

I remember walking to the Mall from Myrtle Shores on 19th street. Year was 1975. Last time for a visit was 1999. The following year they tore down our motel and built a high-rise.

They do use the empty parking lot for things sometimes during the year, like that huge classical car show, and the circus too I believe. Nice video man. I used to work across the street at McDs on 22nd Ave North and go to Myrtle Square Mall after work to kick it with friends in the late 1990s. That video brought back some good memories. Thanks Mr. Myrtle

Great job, Mr. Myrtle! It has to be difficult doing a video on a mall that's not there anymore, but you did very well! I always thought that mall was the best, I hated it when they tore it down. Such good memories there and the best stores. The new mall is just not the same. Thanks for doing this video!

thanks! I agree that Coastal Grand isn't the same. It's pretty and all, but lacks the character and charm of the classic 70's and 80's malls.

I worked here part time at Things Remembered underneath the clock. We had a custom built kiosk for our size. I remember the train that ran along the clock as well. I just noticed at 6:29 mark it shows the kiosk for Things Remembered right under the number 4 on the clock.

5 years later on a nostalgia tear, I'd like to say that back in the mid to late 90s I went to that Things Remembered shop all the time! It was my go to for personalized gifts for family and friends, which back then was a big deal. ETA: I'd forgotten that store was even there!

I was transferred to Myrtle Beach in 1975, about the time this mall was built. Spent many an hour there with family and company. The shopping, the food court, the cafeteria and of course, the clock in the center rotunda... watched it go round & round for hours, I think... Mr. Myrtle, thanks for all your 'memories'. I worked in the Palace Theatre for nearly 20 years and enjoyed your clip a lot. Oh, worked in the Pavilion Amusement Park a couple of summers way back when too! Keep the memories coming, OK?

Thank you so much for solving the mystery of what used to be in that big empty green field. I visit MB a lot over the years from NC and my brother told me that used to be a mall there but I didn't remember it. Watching your abandoned buildings videos makes me have a lot of different feelings: sadness that the buildings are gone & nothing replaced some of them, a bit of fear that there is a lot bigger homeless problem/crime situation in the city than I ever imagined. I am fascinated by the history of the buildings and what made them become abandoned. I am so glad I found your channel.

I'll never forget My Wife and I [girlfriend at the time] Walked from our hotel on 3rd Ave. north to Myrtle Square Mall. We started around 8:30 that morning. By the time we left the Mall it was 12 noon and very hot. I'm talking near 100 degrees. Our Ice Cream melted almost instantly. Could find a Taxi or Cab. We waited at the Bus/Tolley Stop. But none ever came. So we just walked back slowly and cool off in near by store till we made it back. Even though we were Avid Hikers, We never tried that again.

I used to love it 😭 I actually know where several of the horses are, like the one in front of the little museum by the Springmaid. I never made the connection that they were these horses, wow. I remember the Eckerd as well. It makes me sad that there are so few photos of this mall (at least, publicly available), because this was the one I grew up going to. My father was stationed at the Air Force base twice, 65-67, and again in 1975. We got here in October 75 when I was 10. The clock in the mall was so fascinating. It originally had 60 lights, and they would go around and light up for each second. The arcade was pretty cool too. I came to the mall every time I visited after we moved. My last visit was in 90. I currently live in NMB, and have been here for 5 years since I retired from the Air Force myself. I still love it here, but it's not the same. I'm sure older folks feel the same about the area. I believe there was a horse track there before the mall, but that was way before my time. Great video, keep them coming.

Just wondering if the Italian place is still open at the beach. Also you might want to try to contact the current Chick-fil-a owners in MB. I think their Dad was the one opened that one in the mall. Mr. Myrtle Ya know I came across something interesting about the old Myrtle Square Mall Sign at the entrance that they took down, I was checking out Google maps & noticed that the Crown Reef Resort has the exact same sign lol. I mean, if the resort didn't buy the sign to use & change the name from the mall's to theirs of course, then they atleast had to have used the same company that made the mall sign. Check it out if that should interest ya at all. I was just on Google maps & wanted to see what the resort looked like now & when I saw that sign, it resonated with me.

Remarkably similar but not the same- the MBS Mall sign has the teal square extruding from the top and bottom of the purple square-- but on the Crown Reef sign, the teal square extrudes from 3 sides. Funny though that this motiff is one that somehow really resonated with Myrtle Beach sign creators...

Condo towers seem to be the thing by developers. How many people can actually afford to vacation in a condo?I'd venture to say most can't and that's why hotels are the best alternative. You know that the developers and others feel that if you build condos, you'll cut down on the riff raff. You have many working class families who can only afford hotels and motels.Big money doesn't necessarily mean nicer facilities. If they lose the working class vacationer,do you think they really care?Nope. They're putting all their eggs in one basket and that will eventually bite them in the ass.I'd venture to see that since the Pavillion demolition, vacationing has declined to MB,plus, take a look at the news sites and look at how many people are arrested daily.

What does that mean? Why do so many places there go out of business, or are abandoned, or razed? But at the same time new places open up like the wax museum, and there's Broadway at the Beach, etc. I was never there but I always wanted to visit the Pavilion and ride the haunted ride but never did and it closed and was torn down. I've been to other beaches like Wildwood, NJ and Ocean City, MD that also have amusement parks with haunted rides. I live north of Philly, PA. Wildwood, NJ also had a demolition problem, in fact about 10-15 years ago over 100 motels were razed for condos. The owners were pressured to sell by developers. Most took the money and ran, and retired to Florida. Well, I hope a big fat hurricane destroys their houses in Florida to bite them back in the a** for selling their motels in Wildwood and allowing developers to raze them for cheaply built condos.
