Jim, my Citadel '85 classmate and brother! You are a gentleman and wonderful story teller. What an entertaining education you share! My lovely wife and I are coming to town next Saturday March 6th thru Thursday the 11th. We would be grateful and honored if we can join one of your walking tours... my mother actually grew up on Queen Street behind the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist downtown (also where Linda and I were married)! I actually grew up in Mt. Pleasant. We've never done one of these tours. How should I best connect with you? Looking forward to connecting. Billy & Linda Gay '85

Hi Jim ! I was born and raised in Charleston , South Carolina ! This is a great video ! Thank you for sharing this video with me and the history about my home state of Charleston , South Carolina ! Keep up with the good work !
Iam 2 hours away now going for a visit. I hope this racist stuff isn't true 😕 iam not black, but I would hate to encounter that behavior . I love history and just want to see and enjoy all of Charleston 😊
He sounds to me like the Central Florida travel videographer Chad Gallivanter. They both have cultivated that specific type of radio/ narrators commentator voice.
@@Bulldogtours that's sound awesome - I will be on an 8 week usa-trip next year and will be in Charleston from (round about) 06. March til 08. March. How I can reach you, when I know the exact date?
Interesting observation from this video: Charleston, was the largest US slave port historically. However I didn't see one Black person (passersby) present in the video or any Black history discussed in the presentation. Interesting indeed. So it's city that basically accommodates white normative culture and interests?
African slavery was introduced into the new world by the Spanish, French and English. The subject is discussed in literature and historical markers all over the city. It is also discussed in guided tours, but it is only one facet of colonial and United States history. There are other historical events and cultural phenomenon besides African slavery in particular. You can enjoy the Great Pyramids, The Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, Rome and countless other historical features without dwelling on the darker aspects of them. New York city, Boston and Philadelphia were heavily involved in the trade of human chattels, Harvard University was founded by a slave trader but it is rarely discussed or even known of by most inhabitants of those cities even today. Charleston discusses the darker aspects of history more than any city in America that I know of.
Born and raised in Charleston and I never new all this stuff. Love my 🌃
There is also some nice hidden restaurants in some alleys most only known by the locals. Been here since the late 80’s.

It is a disgustingly RACIST place. I wonder how many black people you treated like garbage, I lived in that RACIST s***-hole for 2yrs.

Great video! I need to go track down Bedons Alley! Jim referenced the Ford Model A as a 1912 but Model A's were first produced in December, 1927.
What a fantastic video of this truly extraordinary city!!
Great footage and video Travel + Lesiure.
5:53 correction: inventor of marine chronometer is John Harrison, not William Hamilton.
Love books! This is an incredible way of showing them!
Charleston looks so cool. Feels very European even!
That’s because IT IS very European, with Spanish, English, and French styles and quarters!
My grandparents lived at #7 Lamboll Street for many years from the 1930s to the 1960s.
I like that tour guide!!!!!
Very well done! Thank you so much 😊
4/14/22 Viewing; loved it!
The person who designed the chronometer that solved the longitude problem was William Harrison, not Hamilton.
Hey Neighbor !!! Good job on this video!
Thanks for sharing 💗
if you like to read grab the mystery books about Theodosia Browing all take place in Charleston
Traveling to Charleston for the weekend. Looked up the series and starting now!
HARRISON created the clock that figured out longitude, NOT Hamilton. There are 4 of the clocks in the Greenwich Maritime Observatory in London.
Love city
It was John Harrison who invented the Maritime chronometer, not William Hamilton
Where have I heard this guys voice before? Its driving me nuts
