- Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline grew up about 30 minutes from Charleston, South Carolina and her family still calls the area home. "When we go shoot Outer Banks, which we shoot in Charleston, I get to see my family. So there's a lot of really special memories wrapped up in that city." See her favorite hometown recommendations on where to eat, shop (and skinny dip!) to get the authentic Charleston local experience.

Yeah we don’t need anymore visitors or business. The downtown and Mt P area is absolutely absurd when it comes to people. Even Folly Beach which used to be a good kept secret is overflowing with people. We need less visitors and businesses.

Growing up in a smaller town is such an experience; especially a small south Caroline town. Throughout your childhood, you want to do nothing but get out but as you grow up and see new places, your love for your hometown expands so much. You appreciate it and the memories more. Charleston is not a "small town" compared to other places in SC, but I really enjoyed hearing Madelyn talk about the unique culture and community of it. Definitely makes me miss my smaller town of Rock Hill, SC and it's quirky aspects!

So great! Only want to share that when she talks about Isle of Palms and the restaurants/frose there, she’s actually referencing Sullivan’s Island which is right next to IOP. The frose place is called the co-op!
But IOP has some good spots to eat as well…The Refuge, Acme, the Coop is there as well with a great burger night.
I thought the same thing. When she listed off Poes Tavern I realized she was mentioning Sullivans

Madelyn is just such a kind soul. She is beautiful inside and out. All these recommendations are amazing. Would love to visit Charleston. The sweet tea will be my first purchase I love sweet iced tea 😂.

The frozé place she couldn't remember the name of, is called the Coop! They have several locations. The isle of palms one is one of them.
Visited Charleston a few years ago on a solo trip, before watching the show and LOVED IT!! it's such a gorgeous city. Wish I had known about some of these food places, I would have gone!

If you want another option for really good oysters, Bowens Island is a really good place too but they only have oysters when they are in season which is months that end in "er" (I think....someone correct me if I'm wrong). OBX shoots a lot there I have personally seen the twinkie there multiple times. It's also right on the marsh and there's rafting tours there too! It's a shack-like hole in the wall but it's totally worth it!
