Divinity Original Sin 2 is by far the best RPG of the millennial, in my opinion. It's criminal not enough people have played or even heard about this! A masterwork at least!
Always wanted to get this game but I have to ask: how important is the first divinity to 2’s story? I’d love to play both but I honestly don’t have the time to play both games.
There's some references but nothing major. I believe there's like a few thousand year timeskip between the two, don't remember how long exactly though, been a while since I played them.
This game is true roleplaying! I have trouble playing a lot of RPGs after this game due to the amount of freedom, exploration, and dynamic progression the game offers. It is my favorite game this generation!
One of the few games, I would wipe my memory of, just to play it fresh once again. Those 4 man (all beginner) 12h+ sessions were something else :D The puzzle like structure of each arc, with the need to figure out the correct order of encounters (Driftwoodwas my favorite arc) felt really rewarding and exploring never was more fun. Replaying the game is fun, however once you know what you are doing it becomes rather easy after a few level ups unless one is up for a self-imposed challenge like using elemental magic (there are some balance issues with the different skills: an all physical damage party is always preferable, due to the armor system and their access to some of the best skills even early on).
So much wrong with the game here is 3 from the top of my head. 1) -A archer with farsight can not reach a wizard but next turn that wizard can attack the same archer without moving closer in. 2)- You have 1000 magic armour and get charmed easily but a enemy with 1 magic armor defeats your charm attack. 3) A enemy 3 metres away is out of sight. I can go on and on. Every battle a sea on necrofire that can never be put out.
1) height advantages matter for sight 2)The talent Torturer lets some spells bypass magic armor 3)Only if your character is blinded 4)You can deal with necrofire with a bless spell or just by getting out
I also do not game-master (any game) because I am a perfectionist ; among other reasons. It does take forever if you try to prepare everything in advance, which you sort of have to do if you create a campaign using a video game.
its funny, you say its a flaw that the game can be brutally hard and not as clear on what to do. I find that as a huge bonus and something I was looking forward to
If you're doing a new play through there is a mod called like Joyless Beginnings or something where you skip Fort Joy and just start after the [Redacted Spoilers] at like level 10 or something with a good chunk of change.
Thanks to this review I picked up dos2 for the first time and I'm loving it ! I'm the red prince wizard pyro/Necro. I'm still only in fort joy and to hear you say the game is so much better after you leave fort joy is mind blowing to me. So hyped
Looking to play this game. Should I play on my Xbox one x(where all play all my games) or on my Mac(never played a game). Wasn’t sure if the experience would be too different on a console. Thanks.
I've startd to play this game in november of 2020, with 3 of my friends, with small one hour sessions, and in the beginning of january, we had like 20 hours, barely in the middle of driftwood. A the end of one of our sessions, I coldn't wait any longer, and played a new character for 24 hours straight, and ended up finishing the game in just over 90 (first playthrough, I wanted to find everything, etc.). I'm currently playing a second solo-playthrough. I still find small (and big) things I missed the first time through, and I'm not even worried about being bored out of the game or the story for when I'm playing with my friends! that's how awesome I think this game is!
This game is amazing, this and FE Three Houses are prob the 2 best RPGs in a long time. I played DOS2 on release and I am replaying it now 3 years later with all of the mods/updates and as a second char, the story has a lot of different dialogue. Amazing, absolutely stunning. I can not wait for Baldur's Gate.
Honestly it was one of the best co-op games i've played in years. The story of the characters the mechanics the NPCs the side quests they were all amazing
Easily my all time favourite rpg. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the absolute definition of player choice and freedom. It encourages you think outside the box and experiment in combat with its spells and skills especially during exploration. The interactivity is on a whole new level to any video game I've ever played. Amazing game!!
This. I remember watching a dev diary for the game and they talked about player agency, one of the big things that stood out to me was that they were totally fine with players finding ways to cheese the game. At the end of the day, it's all about fun and if I find a logical way to circumvent obstacles in the game, let me do it. For example theres apart where the party is separated in this underground cave. I already had a couple prisms that allow you to teleport so I basically just made my character the anchor point while I moved the prisms from one party member to the next. I felt like a an absolute god for doing that and IRS one of my most memorable moments from the game.
@@dren5810 Exactly!! For me it was the part with Forktongue and his black ring posse. They wanted to enter the elven stronghold to capture Alexander for the Sallow man but couldn't because of the shriekers, so I teleported them right next to the shriekers for insta-kill and easy experience points lol. It was brilliant and I felt like was actually manipulating the game but that's all part of this amazing experience.
I don’t have a PC however I have all other consoles switch Xbox one x & PS4 pro & switch which of those would you recommend playing it on? Half of me says Xbox one x for graphics other half says switch for portability as I mainly play my switch handheld. Any thoughts?
from a game / gameplay design perspective i feel like Divinity Original Sin 2 is everything i had hoped Dragon Age would have become by now... i remember back before DAO came out how Bioware was likening their new game at the time to a revival of the classic RPG's like Baldur's gate and Icewind dale ...IMO Dragon Age seems so shallow and superficial by comparison.
I made an undead blood witch. In my mind he needs blood to escape death and use his powers. He plays as a good character but his curse is that he needs blood to survive. In hoping I can play the game like this
Just got to act 3 after 70+ hours... need a break. This game has taken over my every thought. Edit - Necro builds are borderline OP mid-late game. Had to turn up difficulty to tactician midway through act 2 because I was one-turning almost everything as LW necro/rouge duo
Yeah, same thing with my Aerotheurge and Hydrosophist combo. Those two complement each other so well, as they are based on making enemies wet with rain. Then it's just crowd control city and only my guys can take their turn.
Just started playing and I hear its a bit more forgiving if you play with a party of 2? Would people agree with this or is it easier with a full party? Also can you do both and and drop party members in and out to play with both options, as in sometimes 2 sometimes 4? :)
I love the game, but the final part was really bad. i also thought when i was 30 hours in the game that it is one of the best games ever, but the final 5 hours were so shit that it dragged it down alot. a good climax is very important.
Weird that you’re doing this now I just had this mailed to me from game fly can’t wait to get into it this just made me more hyped for it my only worry is that I’ve heard it’s really hard and I’m not really good at tactical turn based games
Word of advice for people who are gonna play this game. Don't split your damage between magic and physical. Out of my three friends, I was a warrior/poly build, my second friend was ranger and the third was a battlemage wafare/air and by far he had the worst character. He did like no damage and the only plus was that he could support us with some of his air moves.
I had the first "argh, when did I last save?!" moment today when the magister in Driftwood attacked me, then every single townsperson turned on me too for some reason. 20+ people all on my butt. Definitely didn't make it out of that one, lol.
Hey, I just want you to know the way you do reviews is absolutely amazing. I really appreciate it and it helps me decide what to buy. I’ll be picking up divinity tomorrow.
They also have nice editing tools for mods et.c. Spent last 2 days on making a little mod for myself. A belt that just gives me resistance to elemental damage, because sometimes I like to do a quick save and just clear the game of its population completely. With source vampirism even ghosts are in danger.
i wanna try it out but im not sure if i wanna spends the money to try it out because if i don't like it I've just spent $60 for something i wont play again
i started this game with a group of friends and they didn't get on nearly often enough as i liked to play it. so i started my own and had WAY more fun. i played it all the way through and immediately started it again and my second time through was EVEN BETTER. the story can be so different depending on your choices along the way! definitely the best rpg of the decade. easily.
it's on a steam sale now. How much better is this then the first one? I got bored with the first game about 3 hours or so in. Is it just an updated version or does it feel like its kind of a new game also? I need something a bit different. I got tired of the combat for some reason I get bored with these styles RPGs with the pause combat. Like pilliars of eternity and games like that.
I played Divinity Original Sin, and overall was not a fan. I liked the interesting combat system, the beautiful and atmospheric graphics, and the interestingly created world. Also the main story was okay. There were some UI usability issues. What bored me to death were the tedious, extremely lengthy dialoges, which took pages to convey very little information, which after I while I speed clicked through without reading. What I also did not like was the attempt to be humorous; not only do I not fancy this in a fantasy game, I also simply did not find it funny. Also, there are areas in the game where your party is killed without warning, which I find annyoing - save scumming should not be the only way to get through the game. I wonder, is OS 2 better in these respects? I am looking for a coop game without 3D engine. Thanks for your help.
Would anyone recommend this for the switch? I have the first one for my Xbox (never finished it though) and wanted the second one for my switch as I tend to play that more. Any thoughts?
is it multiplay? or coop? if it is coop, then I have no friends to play with....I hope it is like Diablo auto match system, so when I play multiplay, it just match all 4 people for me. if I have to collect friends and join in the room....I don't know if I can enjoy it.
Frankly? Just use cheats to 'skip' through the combat. I personally play for the stories and to explore the world/lore. And I don't give a damn what anyone else think.
Cool review. For console players there are mods in the form of gift bags that really change up gameplay while a vanilla run is definitely suggested subsequent play throughs dont feel as repetitive with these applied.
i really am interested in this game but idk if i should buy or not. feel like it's a bit expensive for an MMO. i mean i am looking to buy other games like metal gear solid V phantom pain (i know its 5 years old but never played it), devil may cry 5. sid mieser's civillazation VI, red dead redemption 2 (PC), Subvese (best game of 2020) cyberpunk (next year-2020) and probably few others so if you guys think i should prioritize this game over the others or if i should wait with it please tell me

Only thing I didnt like about this game is no new game plus and the fact that when you get your ultimate power you've been searching for all game you never get to use it
Divinity Original Sin 2 is by far the best RPG of the millennial, in my opinion. It's criminal not enough people have played or even heard about this! A masterwork at least!
Always wanted to get this game but I have to ask: how important is the first divinity to 2’s story? I’d love to play both but I honestly don’t have the time to play both games.
Stanners you don’t have to play the first one to enjoy this one. Get this game, there’s a HUGE chance you’ll enjoy it 👍🏾
jendai thanks, I suspect I’ll enjoy divinity 2 a whole lot
There's some references but nothing major. I believe there's like a few thousand year timeskip between the two, don't remember how long exactly though, been a while since I played them.
This game is true roleplaying! I have trouble playing a lot of RPGs after this game due to the amount of freedom, exploration, and dynamic progression the game offers. It is my favorite game this generation!
One of the few games, I would wipe my memory of, just to play it fresh once again. Those 4 man (all beginner) 12h+ sessions were something else :D
The puzzle like structure of each arc, with the need to figure out the correct order of encounters (Driftwoodwas my favorite arc) felt really rewarding and exploring never was more fun.
Since it’s on sale, I will reward myself with this game when I finish fixing my POS Jeep
1) height advantages matter for sight
2)The talent Torturer lets some spells bypass magic armor
3)Only if your character is blinded
4)You can deal with necrofire with a bless spell or just by getting out
I also do not game-master (any game) because I am a perfectionist ; among other reasons.
So hyped
Hey, revisiting older games would be a cool series :)
Is there anything negative about this game? Reading comments and everyone loves it
Looking to play this game. Should I play on my Xbox one x(where all play all my games) or on my Mac(never played a game). Wasn’t sure if the experience would be too different on a console. Thanks.
What is the name of soundtrack in this clip? I love it.
In hoping I can play the game like this
Its also 2 player couch co op right?
Yes
i play the story mode 3 times already...the story were very fun
Just got to act 3 after 70+ hours... need a break. This game has taken over my every thought.
Edit - Necro builds are borderline OP mid-late game. Had to turn up difficulty to tactician midway through act 2 because I was one-turning almost everything as LW necro/rouge duo
Yeah, same thing with my Aerotheurge and Hydrosophist combo. Those two complement each other so well, as they are based on making enemies wet with rain. Then it's just crowd control city and only my guys can take their turn.
Can someone who owns divinity origins 2 play together with someone how has the definitive edition?
Just started playing and I hear its a bit more forgiving if you play with a party of 2?
Would people agree with this or is it easier with a full party?
Also can you do both and and drop party members in and out to play with both options, as in sometimes 2 sometimes 4? :)
Random question is the dialogue voiced or is it all reading?
Bought this game when it came out, am just now playing it.... wow, I have missed out on so much
Ok man. Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time. I’m going to give this a shot.
Don't be afraid to get some mods. I use 'rest-urrect' for example
Sadly unlike dos1. dos2 introduced mag and phis shields and it forces you to play a all phis or all mag team
I’ll be picking up divinity tomorrow.
tbh effortlessly one of the best rpgs ever made
Would love to play this but the camera is too far away from the characters. Bugs me too much 😫
You can zoom the camera in if you want but its zoomed out to give you a better view of the combat terrain.
Can't decide if I should wait for a sale or buy full price...
They also have nice editing tools for mods et.c.
Spent last 2 days on making a little mod for myself. A belt that just gives me resistance to elemental damage, because sometimes I like to do a quick save and just clear the game of its population completely. With source vampirism even ghosts are in danger.
i wanna try it out but im not sure if i wanna spends the money to try it out because if i don't like it I've just spent $60 for something i wont play again
screw it imma try it
everyone claims that DOS2 has cross-save functionality between the Nintendo Switch and PC. I have yet to see any evidence of this at all.
i started this game with a group of friends and they didn't get on nearly often enough as i liked to play it. so i started my own and had WAY more fun. i played it all the way through and immediately started it again and my second time through was EVEN BETTER. the story can be so different depending on your choices along the way! definitely the best rpg of the decade. easily.
it's on a steam sale now.
If you don't like RPGs with turn based combat then Divinity: Original Sin 2 isn't going to do anything to convince you otherwise.
is this more enjoyable in terms of controls on pc or console?
Is there a Necromancer to play?
I'll taketh thy cheese by force Thanks! But I’ve changed my mind about the game since I have no friends to play with !
Have a nice day :)
I'll taketh thy cheese by force Ah nice to know! And yes it is hahahah
What a coincidence. I just bought dos2 two days ago and cant wait to jump in.
So how's it going?
This game is like a book, i like reading books, slow paced game play is my favorite.
is it multiplay? or coop? if it is coop, then I have no friends to play with....I hope it is like Diablo auto match system, so when I play multiplay, it just match all 4 people for me. if I have to collect friends and join in the room....I don't know if I can enjoy it.
Why would you want to shorten a quest? Less exp?
Im scared to buy it because is turn based. But i love rpg-s .What should i do?
Good review, well-communicated and thorough. Thanks.
I've looked everywhere how do I use pickaxes on ore viens
Lag issues.
Even people with 1080ti's and I7 8th generation cannot play it on the lowest settings
This makes the game unplayable.
i really am interested in this game but idk if i should buy or not. feel like it's a bit expensive for an MMO. i mean i am looking to buy other games like metal gear solid V phantom pain (i know its 5 years old but never played it), devil may cry 5. sid mieser's civillazation VI, red dead redemption 2 (PC), Subvese (best game of 2020) cyberpunk (next year-2020) and probably few others so if you guys think i should prioritize this game over the others or if i should wait with it please tell me
It’s not an MMO? You can play the whole game solo.
