Rorschach is the most complex , most interesting character in a graphic novel. One thing i learned from him is to "Never Despair. Never Surrender". Jackie acting is the best.
what i find funny is that jackie earle haley sounded like such a mellow buddhist monk kind of guy in the interview and in the movie he is absolutely demented almost to the point where he could have easily played the joker in that raw intense single vision mode.
you can always tell a GREAT actor from "merely" a good one by how different their speech and mannerisms in-character are from their real life demeanor. Both of these guys, especially jackie earle are incredible actors. Look at Daniel Day Lewis and his character Daniel Plainview from there will be blood, literally could not be a bigger difference.
I paid close attention and they only left out one thing on Rorschach's backstory and that was the reason why he became a Super Hero. What drove into that lifestyle was the death of a fashion model named Kitty Genovese. She was screaming for help and nobody bothered. Some people even watched the attack on her happen. Aside from that, they pretty much got it down and Jackie Earle Haley stole the whole show.
Great interview! Very informative, with solid honest opinions from Jackie and Dean. Both these guys nailed their roles. You could tell they took the work seriously, but it's nice to hear them confirm it so eloquently.
Great interview! And yes, Zack got the cast 100% PERFECT. It seems like too much to hope for to find people who not only LOOK exactly like the characters in the book physically, but who REALLY understand them and play them to perfection (and even *sound* like them to perfect--Jackie-as-Rorschach FTW!!!). So thankful for this movie being made just the way it was~~
After the slew of interviews they did each day for this film, I'd wanna have a drink too. The press junket blitz for Watchmen was brutal and he was globe hopping a lot (Australia, UK, Germany, France) in a very short amount of time. I woulda went fetal before the halfway mark but he and Jackie are troopers!
But I think that does add in to Rorschach's personality - he was clearly an unusually sensitive, and intelligent, child. Scoured by years of abuse from the world toughens him down into becoming Rorschach. I think an underlying sensitivity was essential to bringing Rorschach to life. Haley nailed it.
the first time i seen Jackie Earle Haley and heard he was going to play Rorschach my favourite character in the graphic novel and my favourite comic book character i never thought he can do it but i seen the movie and i was blown away he look exactly like Rorchach in the novel and i couldnt pick a better actor if i tried and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian i thought was a perfect choise he looks exactly like the comedian in my eyes they did a awsome job with the casting of the movie
Lol when i was watching the film i thought rorschach was hot ;] then i googled jackie earle haley and was like oh.. He looks nothing like he does in the film, but none the less, hes an amazing actor, with a lush voice. Comedian and Rorschach was my favorite characters :)
JDM has that winning combo...that smile, those dimples and that voice equals melting of glaciers! One of the only guys out there that looks even hotter with a beard helps too! ;)
I love Rorschach! He is such a philosophical character. This movie was great. Too bad people were expecting a airheaded cliche type superhero movie. BTW, Jackie's Rorschach voice is sick!!!
@BlindReaper22 I know right! u can tell that hes really cool and laid back..gentle even. GREAT actor. I too was like "WAIT WTF THATS Rorschach?!?...wow" I think thats a sign of a great actor-when they are %100 different from their character that it shocks you.
This is a fantastic interview :) I'll forever think of 300 as a "Gay parade that gets out of hand" now, lmao! And Jeffrey's laugh at that part - priceless! haha he's the best... Both Jeffrey and Jackie did SO amazing at bringing their characters to life, it's really cool to hear about all the hard work they obviously put into it. Watchmen was a beautiful film :)
u know after watchin this i cant believe that little bald calm cool dude jackie was a deep voice badass killer detective like rorshaq and hes gonna play the most evil killer in the world Freddy Kruger!!! what a great actor
Naw he said it was the closest you could have gotten as far as writing it for the big screen, (mainly because david hayter had a big part to play in writing it, Solid fucking Snake) alan didn't denounce it he only said he wouldn't go see it
I just realized I was on set of the movie "Taking Woodstock" with the Comedian. He didn't have his beard at the time so I didn't make the connection! GAH!
These two were literally the bread and butter of this film the comedian was just a disgusting and heartless human being. Rorschache was Nolan's Batman with absolutely no rules or mercy and the scenes without his mask on were just as awsome!
i thought Robert Downey Junior was the comedian. Did anyone else realize how much the comedian looked like robert downey junior?? DAMN :D great movie though, roschach owned and so did comedian, especially first fighting scene :D
man, that rorscharch guy is such a great actor! he really nailed the charcter! also jdm as the comedian, great casting, defo the best in the movie, but i did like it when dr manhattan teleports everyone out of the building, best line in the ovie, "I',m not locked up in here with you, you're locked in here with me!"
hahahah who is rorschach? hahah man! thats crazy. i woul never have guessed they would play a guy like that. but from the scenes ive heard of rorschach, im ultra stoked about the guy who plays rorscach though. same with the comedian
ya i totally agree with you, and if you listen to about the first 10 min of the movie it kinda describes itself as R rated, and ya i read the book and saw the movie i loved them both and rorschach is still my fav even if hes a freaking physco
Some of the characters from Watchmen might have been inspired from other comic books of its time. Nite Owl aka the guy that looks like Batman was created by Dave Gibbons when he was just a child. So I can imagine he got some ideas from other DC comics. And really the silver surfer is just a blank man's body, like Dr. Manhattan, except the Dr. is blue and I'm sure you can guess the silver surfer's color. Lol
The Comedian was the best in film, but he wasn't in it long enough for most viewers of the film to understand that, but Rorschach was the second best, next to Ozymandias
Holy Crap, Jackie Earle Haley sounds totally different. What a performance...
Funny, they're two of the meanest people in the movie, yet they're two of the nicest guys on the cast :)
These two guys made the movie. hands down. I hope to see much more of them in future films.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan could be Robert Downey Jr.'s older bro.
Rorschach is the most complex , most interesting character in a graphic novel. One thing i learned from him is to "Never Despair. Never Surrender". Jackie acting is the best.

Have to say Jeffrey Dean Morgan played an excellent role in this movie as well Jackie Haley. Best of luck to the both of them.
If they decide to put Carnage in the Spider-man movies Jackie Earle Haley would be an awesome Carnage.
These are the two best characters in the film
Holy fuck the comedian is John winchester in supernatural.... i just fkin noticed rite now lol....
Rid Z Makes his character even cooler, right!
Lets make 40 thumbs up for Jackie !
Man Jackie is a great actor!!
I didnt expect his voice to sound so normal in real life! I was expecting Rorschach's voice lol!
Jeffrey Dean Morgan sounded like Sylvester Stallone when he first laughed ad spoke.
i cant believe that Rorschach is....is this guy!!! he looks and sounds nothing like him!!
this movie is just fucking epic, fuck the haters...
Fuck I wish I had these two for friends lol. They seems cool as fuck. Don't seem like typical snooty actors. Watchmen is the shit.
I LOVE how the GOOD actors take their characters so Serious, I mean, This Guy and Rorscharc are COMPLETLY Diferent :D
Rorschach is the coolest character ever
These two are amazing actors
I paid close attention and they only left out one thing on Rorschach's backstory and that was the reason why he became a Super Hero. Aside from that, they pretty much got it down and Jackie Earle Haley stole the whole show.
rorschach was the coolest hero by far
Saw the movie today, it was BAD ASS, and these two were the most awesome characters in the whole movie IMO
Great interview! Very informative, with solid honest opinions from Jackie and Dean.
Both these guys nailed their roles. You could tell they took the work seriously, but it's nice to hear them confirm it so eloquently.
Lol compare this Rorschach to the one in the movie :P
Great interview! And yes, Zack got the cast 100% PERFECT. yeah i can't put the Rorschach Voice to the JEH face
But I think that does add in to Rorschach's personality - he was clearly an unusually sensitive, and intelligent, child. Scoured by years of abuse from the world toughens him down into becoming Rorschach.
I think an underlying sensitivity was essential to bringing Rorschach to life. Haley nailed it.
these two here played the best parts in the movie...they were by far the best out of the whole cast
haha rorshak is so different than in the movie. Nice actor
Rorschach is such a bad ass. haha
the first time i seen Jackie Earle Haley and heard he was going to play Rorschach my favourite character in the graphic novel and my favourite comic book character i never thought he can do it but i seen the movie and i was blown away he look exactly like Rorchach in the novel and i couldnt pick a better actor if i tried and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Comedian i thought was a perfect choise he looks exactly like the comedian in my eyes they did a awsome job with the casting of the movie
Yeah, he also plays and voices Chucky in Childs play :)
Jackie sound really young
even though he's 48
Lol when i was watching the film i thought rorschach was hot ;]
then i googled jackie earle haley and was like oh.. He looks nothing like he does in the film, but none the less, hes an amazing actor, with a lush voice.
Comedian and Rorschach was my favorite characters :)
"oceans elleven cast"
thats gonna be my new term for A-list actors
jackie earl haley is adorable. he was so, so good as rorschach.
john winchester is HAWT!
JDM has that winning combo...that smile, those dimples and that voice equals
melting of glaciers!
One of the only guys out there that looks even hotter with a beard helps too!
;)
they both stole the show
I love Rorschach! He is such a philosophical character. This movie was great. Too bad people were expecting a airheaded cliche type superhero movie. BTW, Jackie's Rorschach voice is sick!!!
"This gay parade that gets out of hand" - best synopsis of 300 ever XD
5:20
JDM just has the most fantastic laugh :3
Man Jackie earl haley got fucking rip for this movie
@BlindReaper22 I know right! u can tell that hes really cool and laid back..gentle even. GREAT actor. I too was like "WAIT WTF THATS Rorschach?!?...wow" I think thats a sign of a great actor-when they are %100 different from their character that it shocks you.
I Love Rorschach and The Comedian!!!!! lolXD

Both Jeffrey and Jackie did SO amazing at bringing their characters to life, it's really cool to hear about all the hard work they obviously put into it. Watchmen was a beautiful film :)
he is kind of laid back and meek sounding, considering the character of Rorschach was so intense.
Dude, rorschach is awesome!!!! i love his look!!!
Gah, now I can't stop watching him play with his face fur XD
I love to see the blooper reel of this movie.....I was disappointed when Dark Knight didn't have any on the DVD release.
u know after watchin this i cant believe that little bald calm cool dude jackie was a deep voice badass killer detective like rorshaq and hes gonna play the most evil killer in the world Freddy Kruger!!! what a great actor
JDM is a character all himself.
oh hellz yes! he's a total beast
the gay-parade that get's out of hand! i always have to laugh because of Jeffrey's laugh, it's funny!:)
I love how the questioner doesn't seem to react to either of them cracking up at it! He just keeps going! XD
I couldn't agree more.
God damm! look at Jacki Earle Haley, the guy made the performance of the year.
They were great, but Billy Crudup was also amazing in it as well
it still takes talent to successfully adapt a story liek watchmen to the big screen
Jackie looks so tiny compared to Jeffrey Dean. It's kinda wierd hearing his real voice, you know, I got so used to hear the Rorschach growl.
6:45 Haha Morgans look after ''Smarts''!
interviewer was great, actual questions he seemed to care about the answers not robotic questions
Naw he said it was the closest you could have gotten as far as writing it for the big screen, (mainly because david hayter had a big part to play in writing it, Solid fucking Snake)
alan didn't denounce it he only said he wouldn't go see it
I'm so used to his Rorschach voice, his regular voice is just--odd for some reason..
rorscharc is the best of all the movie!!really good movie. Also de comedian is great, love this two
@KhrysHermary He was talking about 300, which could be, for a lack of a better term, VERY homoerotic.
This movie will become THE evergreen
I just realized I was on set of the movie "Taking Woodstock" with the Comedian. He didn't have his beard at the time so I didn't make the connection! GAH!
These two were literally the bread and butter of this film the comedian was just a disgusting and heartless human being. Rorschache was Nolan's Batman with absolutely no rules or mercy and the scenes without his mask on were just as awsome!

i don't know what it was..but every time i look at the comedian..he makes me want to laugh for no reason...
JDM's giggle!
hahahah who is rorschach? hahah man! thats crazy. i woul never have guessed they would play a guy like that. but from the scenes ive heard of rorschach, im ultra stoked about the guy who plays rorscach though. same with the comedian
He should of played Max Payne
The interviewer sounds Irish :)
BEST MOVIE EVER!!!
JEH is Rorschach
ya i totally agree with you, and if you listen to about the first 10 min of the movie it kinda describes itself as R rated, and ya i read the book and saw the movie i loved them both and rorschach is still my fav even if hes a freaking physco
Jackie Earl Haley looks like a lovechild from Robert Downey Jr. and Javier Bardem...ROFLMFAO!!!!
Nice guys.
Rorschach looks EXACTLY line Gary Moorcroft. Look for a video of Gary Moorcroft on YT, you'll see what I mean...
Some of the characters from Watchmen might have been inspired from other comic books of its time. Nite Owl aka the guy that looks like Batman was created by Dave Gibbons when he was just a child. So I can imagine he got some ideas from other DC comics. The movie was fucking amazing
The Comedian was the best in film, but he wasn't in it long enough for most viewers of the film to understand that, but Rorschach was the second best, next to Ozymandias
I like how they both crack up at the term "gay parade."
I love how he realizes that he's losing all grasp of making sense. It's great.
Lol i said the same thing .
Rorchach looks much better with a hair...
The comedian (Edward Blake) looked alot like Robert Downey Jr. in watchmen
yay john winchester as the comedian!!
couldn't have picked a better actor for the part
Rorschach is that homeless dude in semi pro.
yea..i want that mask!!
I'm pretty sure that's not his real name. It's a character he plays. Welcome to reality-land. Sorry the ride was so bumpy.
Only one hair?
i know right? i was expecting that ame hair do or longer w/ the deep voice, not a jazz band musician look!
Wonder if he made that 'Bad News Bears' comment on purpose.... ^^;
Yeah that's the whole point of the joke.
He knew that Haley was one of the original Bad News Bears.
That's why he said it.
