- We went to Alton Towers in July 2023 and were pleasantly surprised to see the rides with minimal queuing times throughout the day. In this vlog, Mike talks about the rides he can and can't do, we talk about the ride availability situation, check out the Nemesis retracking project and look for any changes around the park since our last visit in May.

What a great vlog, thanks Mike and Scott 👍👌 Great Nemesis chatter. Feel more able to comment here as I was at Towers for a friend's birthday celebration earlier this year - first visit since 2012. I was only missing Smiler and Wicker Man and i fkin loved them! Tip: Maccy's breakfast on way, doughnuts on park (avoiding the nasty chocolate sauce), service station sit-down Maccy's on way home, thus avoiding the eye-watering cost of pasta in Staffordshire. I hated Duel - stupid interactions with guns added to the fabulous Haunted House - but understand that it was probably a relatively quick and cost-effective revamp and kids would love it. The Curse of I can't be arsed seems to be the Haunted House with the duel element removed and not much else. The actors outside were great though!
Anyway, I shall wrap this up before i start to ramble.

Maccies has been a long time go-to of ours (less so these days, it’s getting bloody expensive for breakfast!) but Scott did go on the way, I’d been to Greggs in Manchester as I was getting my train. Again we have many a time stopped at Uttox Maccies on the way home but on that trip stopped at a recently discovered buffet restart in Stoke
@@Mikeb1001 to be fair, I almost did a Victor Meldrew when the screen politely demanded nearly two-fifty for a hash brown at Sandbach
Just want to say thank you for acknowledging one of the difficulties that disabled people have in theme parks. So few people bother to give us any thought so to hear you make comments in support of our needs is amazing. Thank you! If you could also get BPB to build ramp lifts or something that would be grand also lol those steep climbs kill me! 😂😂

Couldn’t agree more about the group we have coming to events, such a welcoming group and always room for more. People on their own will always be included

On Mike's point about the Nemesis track, I was of the understanding that it was the supports that are the pins holding down the nemesis creature, the track was always meant to be part of the creature itself. That is why the track was done in a bone colour, just like the tentacles, and it's also why the tentacles are made to look like track as well, to create a seamlessness between the track and the creature. The spine of the creature also extends down to the break-run as well so it's all meant to be the monster that has lashed away at the earth with it's tentacles, but got pinned down by steel pins. (Supports). Remember 'We mere irritants now ride it; .. We ride IT, not the steel holding it down but IT, the nemesis itself is what we ride. So the story line hasn't changed, they have just made the track look even more biological which, whether it's better than the original is still open for debate at the moment!

It's good to see Mike back at Towers. I've been to Towers 3 x since Sub Terra reopened and still not managed to get on it due to constant downtime...Closest I've got was getting off the first 'elevator'!!....spent 90 mins in total and queued twice for nowt!

I agree Rita has had its day maybe 5 years left in her.
Not having the sky ride would currently stop me visiting Alton Towers its too much walking without it.
No Sky Ride is a poor show from Towers

Good vlog as always. I don’t know much about restraints and the reasons for them being ‘smaller’ for some people but it’s a shame it doesn’t fit all.
All I will say. The Run Alton Towers 5km and 10km runs are in 4 months time. That’s loadssss of time to try and get to the 5km. I’ll training for it too, there’s the app called couch to 5k it’s good! Maybe the motivation you need!

I’m genuinely shocked I fit on Sub Terra, I was all ready to walk off and abandon my friend but I managed 😂 painful though!
I don't know why Alton doesn't have a railroad going around the park too.
Terrain and grounds
It did have until the 1990's. It's what is now the Haunted Hollow
Yeah the haunted hollow should be an on ground railroad route - it’s so stupid not having the sky ride open but also not openly communicating it is worse
They really need to get the sky ride sorted
Or even a couple of electric powered land train that go around the lake, I’ve been saying that for years ! A train around parts of the park would be awesome
29:05 I feel like Rita with LSMs would make it more of a ‘mid’ coaster than it actually is. Personally I want Rita to be replaced by a stand out coaster that will definitely make it a world class coaster and that is an Intamin Blitz or Mack Multi Launch coaster with spinning cars similar to Enso/Icon at BPPB. With Three launches with a drop track and a heavily themed experience just like Wickerman, having that at Alton Towers would make it one of the best coasters in Europe.
Issue they’ve got is removing the trees around the area, so whilst I think they have more room than people think it’s probably not enough for a triple launch
The other day at towers some guests was like “can’t wait to ride nemesis today” 🤣🤣🤣

The rapids might be hit and miss in the UK now with staffing, since the Drayton tragedy insurers are insisting that there is staff all the way around the course now.
I missed watching your channel but I’ve been busy, and I wish I had a non busy Alton towers day bc when I went smiler and everything was 120-70 minute queues
Need to pick and choose when you go. This was an ideal day as it's the last weekend before the summer holidays (filmed Saturday just gone) so the school trips will have been during the week and the families won't start going until this coming weekend, plus the weather as mentioned in the video was questionable! I recommend out of season days such as Sundays or midweek in September or around May/June

Dark forest is always a odd area for me. The entrances to the rides seem to be slapped in an uninspiring area, its full of expensive fast food stalls, lots of empty spaces and area is still suffering from the dreadful Ug-land era.. Phew thats my rant done.. Need to lie down in a dark room now :D

Ug Land was a strange theme. Colourful and nostalgic for me personally but still strange

It’s not an easy situation
The problem with Rita is the land isn’t great, it’s not a large area with no expansion opportunities & with all of dark forests pathways are underneath it they couldn’t have anything low to the ground there. I can only see them replacing Rita & thirteen together
Think they could easily replace it with creative planning
I want to come to the event but I’ll be on my own first time
Many first timers come alone and make friends during the day

I wouldn't want them to get rid of RITA, I'd say LSMs for RITA, I heard someone mention Stealth should get the same!

All depends on your size and even more, where you carry weight

Mike-bringing my son this month for his first time and I’m a size 28 and worried I won’t be able to ride anything. I’m not bothered about oblivion or smiler but do you think I’ll fit on wicker man and thirteen? Haven’t been in over a decade and petrified I’ll be doing the walk of shame. Please help!
Hi, you might well struggle with both Wickerman and Th13teen - 13 especially has very small seats and the restraints are a nightmare if, like me, you’ve got big thighs. Wickerman does have a test seat opposite the entrance but I don’t think it gives a true reflection. Again thighs are a problem on this at times and again the seat itself isn’t particularly big either

Another great vlog scott i havent been to alton towers for long time since 2009 with college on a reward trip first time going to a theme park back then and like you i miss the old log flume ride was so much fun going through the trees being left in suspense of what was to come next before the massive finale drop ruclips.net/video/TGrPReGHCsk/видео.html&ab_channel=Matthewhowell theres a video of me and my mates on it at that time i was in boat ahead of my mate who was filming crap quality back then compared to now 🤣i rode nemi back then too for first time absolute shat myself on it didnt ride oblivion which am still too but great to see you covering the nemi updates scott and seeing all put into place first time for me seeing a major refurb coaster being done like this and great to watch the vlogs like these for those like me that cant get to towers often as id like to given the location for it as am in manchester so tricky to get too but great to see mike back given hes input in it and loved the failed manc accent attempts being a fellow manc here 🤣and great to see mike is a fellow red supporter too

I want to book the event but I have a pre op for my hip replacement on August 2nd . If my op is after we will definitely hobble round for the event but I can’t commit till 2nd August 😨😨.
Blade ….. I remember riding that very ride when I was 12 back in 1980 when an amazing new coaster had opened called ….. Corkscrew , I was hooked. 😍😍😍🧱🧱👍🏽
