    I had the exact same python for dual core/laser mining a few weeks ago. I loved it as it opens up all of the medium pads for landing and as you rightly said, it only takes me 1.5 hours to fill, then sell. But I got sick of trying to dodge the npc pirates so I moved up to a mining laser only mineaconda (no core hunting tools) and filled the rest of the hard points and untlities with weapons and shield boosters. Bring it on pirates! When I'm done mining, I swap over to my LTD python seller ship which is parked in the system next door and let the money roll in. I never used to be into mining that much but now I love it. And the money you can make is amazing. Thanks for sharing your build D2ea and take care matey.

    My most recent trip to Borann I ran across three core asteroids just doing a regular laser mining trip. The best piñata was the core asteroid that also contained 18.62% LTDs for surface mining and a couple of surface deposits even before blowing it open ... It didn't hurt that the current best sell price was 1.6 Mcr/ton. :)

    I was using the Phantom for mining and just recently got a Python and outfitted it for mining. The Phantom will be my exploration build. The Python I like the internals better for mining. On another note I finally got the Guardian Frame Shift Drive. Now perhaps my Corvette can go places :) Cheers!

    I've got something similar, but instead of using a 4A scoop i used a 3A collector. When i'm done mining i go to the nearest outpost and swap out all the collector limpets for a class 5 FSD booster, 5A scoop and class 4 fuel tank. Saves time in the long run since you need waaay less jumps and refueling is really fast (plus with the extra tank you can do ~350ly without refueling).

    • @JohnEwan
      @JohnEwan 4 года назад +2

      Adding to that, I've left a bunch of collector controllers in a nearby system so I can mine with no scoop, shields, or FSD booster. I can easily run 10 collector limpets and fill up fast! Swap the stored modules back in when I'm done and I can sell my haul anywhere in the bubble.

    Good build, i am using the same for some time now, way more pleasant than flying a Cutter or other Big Bro. I highly recommend putting a point defense on the back for the rares cases of npc spawning the middle of nowhere and using hatch breaker. I personally use 1 shield boost, 1 chaff, and 1 point defense along the pulse wave analyzer "just in case" and it save a bit of weight.

    I definitely have to agree with you on this. I was on the fence whether to go back to my mining Python from my Cutter and this has convinced me. I get bored mining for longer than an hour and the worst part about the Cutter is it's manoeuvrability when you are setting seismic charges, not to mention the hard point placement. Oh my god, those are horrible for mining. That's fully engineered dirty drives too. There is more module freedom with a Cutter but that and slightly more speed is the only thing going for it over a core mining Python. For anyone saving for a Cutter to go mining with: don't do it unless you play to just stick to laser mining and don't mind committing hours to the job.

    Nice build. My Python for tritium mining is as follow: large center - mining laser, large left and right - two subsurface launchers, medium left - abrasion blaster, medium right - seismic charges. Because in tritium hotspots is many subsurface deposits I use two launchers - one active at time. 192 ton cargo capacity and standard mining optionals. About 2 hours for full cargo, occasionally core LTD, VO or alexandrite. Obviously is not targeted for core mining.

    I have changed out one of your lasers for a Sub-Surface Displacement Missile. I find that they are pretty easy to use as long the 'roid is not spinning fast and you can pull upwards of 12 LTDs per rock with them too. Laser / Core / Vein mining all in one.

  • @mikeashman7665

    I've tried laser mining in a python but i like the cutter better, for some reason it feels better. I got really really lucky sunday morning when I woke up and found a station only 50 ly from borann. This was my first time mining LTDs and had to ignore some stuff but WOW, 1.57 mil per ton, I sucked it up and went dangerous with my build. The demand never went below 11,000 in a station with a large pad.
    Borann to cpd-51 3323 50 ly.
    My build on the cutter was,
    A detail scanner, 3a prospectors, 2a refinery, hull reinforcements, 12- 5a limps, 512 tons cargo, 3- 2d lasers, 1- heatsink, all core mods were combat engineered, but I did replace my 8a to a 5a power plant overcharged that was in my storage. My first hall took 3 hrs, but I made 810 million, from 518 tons of LTDS. After one run in python and 2 runs in cutter the demand never went down.

      Or you could just use your brain and build around it. Who cares if you're not engineered, it's the same setup with less jump range. For me, I copied everything but my parts aren't engineered. When I realized my jump range was only ~13ly I decided to drop a cargo rack and add a guardian booster so now I get ~23ly with 128T of cargo. More than enough.

    About the only thing I'd change is hold off on the g5 overcharge, and only go as high as the build *needs* for sufficient power. G2 or 3 should be adequate, and it improves heat efficiency. As far as I'm aware having the overhead doesn't really gain you anything.
    Also, me being me, I'd have to squeeze in an FSD booster in there, but I can see why you left it out. Solid build, man. Been running about the same one for a while now, and I love it.

    While 2 mining lasers appear to deplete a roid marginally faster than just one. I've run up to four at once without seeing any real improvement over just two.
    I suggest swapping one of those three lasers for a subsurface missile launcher (best case being the center mount for ease of aiming.
    A single subsurface deposit is usually good for 5 or 6 tons of material. But every now and then you hit the jackpot and get more tonnage from a single subsurface deposit than you could hope for from blasting out a core.
    My personal record is right at 50 tons of LTD's from a single roid. The prospector showed it to have an LTD core plus 3 subsurface LTD deposits. I expect it will be a very long time indeed before I ever get close to seeing something like that again.

    i've been using a python for this for a while but i've never managed to fill the 192 ton hold in the short time he's talking about. i've been adjusting the build here lately to get closer to what he's doing, like ditching at least one mining function- in this case he's not using that drilling torpedo thing, so just laser and core mining, which makes sense, and i always go to double ice diamond locations of course. what i still haven't tried is loading up that higher functioning prospect limpet controller and just shooting more rocks with them, and i guess that's where he's saving so much time. i always feel like i have to conserve those dumb limpets so i don't run out before the hold fills up, but obviously he's managing that ok. this guy is just methodical as hell.

    I dropped the fuel scoop for an additional class 3 collector. Also dropped the shield boosters as I do not mine in open and this lets you fit a 5A PP instead (overcharged G3 + thermal spread). The total laden range is 178 ly, which is enough to reach most stations. In the rare case it is not enough to reach the selling location I have a 5A fuel scoop and a class 5 fsd booster lying around at a nearby system only ls away from the arrival star. It takes at most 5 mins extra to drop into that system and slap them on instead of the class 5 collectors (which on long journeys might even save time due to the additional 10 ly range from the fsd booster).
    At the time of writing this, Bond Dock gives 1.7M per ton of LTDs so it does not seem *that* uncommon. I indeed clocked in at about 265 M/hr.
    My cutter is also stationed close to Borann at the same station, just in case. I run 4 class 2 mining lasers that just eat the rock. Putting them in the large hardpoints removes the problem of the range of the wing hardpoints. I would still say that this build's maneuverablility makes up for having one less laser in terms of mining speed.

    • @blemat
      @blemat 4 года назад

      Update: I switched out one of the class 5 collectors for a class 5 prospector and put a class 3 collector in the slot for the old prospector. This allows faster prospecting with four limpets, which I felt was the major bottleneck, while only reducing the collectors to 7 from 8. You can be more picky about the asteroids you mine and also often have a new asteroid prospected when you’re done with the last. The initial test was promising: I spent 53 minutes from jumping into Borann to jumping out with a full cargo hold where I usually average somewhere in the range 60-70 minutes depending on luck. Too bad it only sold for 1.15 Mcr/ton ...

    Made 230 million a couple of days ago, from one trip in a Python like this but with only 128t cargo (plus 6 in the refinery). LTDs were selling for 1.7something million.

    Man, I wish I had started playing ED before the patch. Granted, I have $500M after 2.5 weeks of playing. But now that I have my Python, the absolute best I usually get for LTD is close to $1M. That is SUPER rare. If I use fleet carriers for convenience, it's more like $500K. I switched to Painite and I now get a consistent $800K per ton. So I get between $120-140M out of 150ish tons of painite. If I had mined this much before, I would have doubled that from what it sounds like. Oh well...back to the grind!

    I put a fat shield in the 6 slot, refinery in the 4 slot, fuel scoop in a 3 slot, and a docking computer in the 2 slot (because I'm lazy, not because I can't go without it) which leaves me with only 128 cargo space. also, nowhere near being able to engineer shit (my most engineered item, not even on this ship, is a rank 3 FSD range boosted FSD drive), so I have a full size power plant (also the size 6 shield really sucks power)... but, basically, a similar loadout to what you've gone with.
    it current has only 2 mining lasers, and 3 weapons rather than the core mining gear, but that's only because in Borann (you said you mine there too) there's just this really sweet low-temp diamond mining spot where every 3rd random rock is worth mining... makes the extra effort to find and mine a core rock a bit pointless.

    Hawkes has been using the python for a while now. Biggest reason is the supply and demand. A higher cargo turn in cuts into your profits. So smaller more frequent loads give you more money in the long run.
    This is almost the same build as hawkes uses but obviously a fully engineered version. In this video he shows how to get one right out the door and within 4 hours of starting the game as a fresh commander.

    Why do u say that a pulse wave analyzer isn't needed for laser mining? I use it to find better rocks rather than throwing a bunch of random prospectors out. Am I missing something?

    • @DowntoEarthAstronomy
      @DowntoEarthAstronomy  2 года назад

      Yes. The PWA only helps you find rocks with cores in them. It has no effect on laser mining.

    Is this ship any good without engineering? I'm trying to unlock Selene Jean.
    Has something happened with LTD. I'm only seeing prices around 500k. Are they still easy to find?
    I've just started mining in my Asp x and thinking of moving up. I have around 320m credits.

    I can't fly without all the fancy docking computers and guidance systems. I don't even know how I got to owning an Anaconda and now a cutter, still need to A rate them out but engineering is beyond me. That Python is a credit making machine though. I came back because of all this FC talk but forgot how to mine.

      Fuel costs next to nothing. One rock and you have enough to pay for weeks of mining

      Longevity in the asteroid field. It's. It's not going to reduce range that much to have a shield, and saves you splattering yourself against a big chunk of LTD and Lithium Hydroxide! Plus, the current best LTD location is only a couple of jumps from Shin Dez.

    When you do these tutorials, you really should use the "standard" equipment/non-engineered. Most people watching are new to the game and engineering, does not have a high priority at the start.
    Edit. Oh, right. ;)

    Although I have been playing this game from day one, I am still fairly new to mining. Is this build common? I cannot wrap my mind around being defenseless. Again, new to mining, so can someone explain why or how this build is used in the wild?

    • @Spartacus88
      @Spartacus88 4 года назад

      Usually you mine in solo to avoid getting ganked. When its just the AI the python is fast enough to FSD away from a hotspot and go back after you escape. Most of the time I get scanned i just enter supercruise to leave the ring then turn around and go back and the AI are gone. Also its maneuverable enough to avoid interdiction.

      Replace the mining lazers with pulse lasers and add 2 chaff launchers. This way you are not a sitting duck at least. I never use mining lasers when I'm deep core mining?

    • @Serxne_
      @Serxne_ 4 года назад

      When you mine in hotspots, you drop in, get scanned with a cargo full of limpets, then boost away before the NPCs wake out. The game will read the instance as "Occupied" so it won't spawn anymore NPCs in to gank you further down the mining trip. It's pretty mindless, but you'll get a ton of money. I highly recommend getting an audiobook or two while mining.

      You fire prospectors when laser mining, looking for something that has between 20-60% of the resource you want. The pulse wave analyzer is for core mining with the missiles.

    Also, I notice that you don't run a docking comp in any of your builds...
    I mean, I can thread the cutter though the slot at boost (9/10 times lol), but I'm just too lazy to run without one!
