I love how far back they think technology was in 2000 lol. It wasnt the 80s man. We had flip phones, we had monitors that werent cctv looking😆

Yeah I mean, I did notice the flip phones were weird but they weren't so anachronistic that I caught on that it was the year 2000 until the very end when they were on flight 180.
It's amazing to me that some people act like the internet was invented like...10 years ago.

Knowing the twist at the end, it's hard for me to understand how I missed that the technology was of the late 90s on first watch lol bravo to the directors for averting your attention to the characters not the background worldbuilding

  • @tmm4195
    @tmm4195 3 месяца назад +56

There were definitely some hints throughout the movie that gave away that this took place in the late 90's to early 00's. Some were more obvious like the cars and flips phones. Issac especially was using an out-of-date phone. Some were more subtle like comparing Olivia to Lisa Loeb (an 80's singer), the music Molly is listening to in her car, the banners in the gymnastic hall date and overall, pretty much everything technology wise in the film wasn't updated. I think the biggest clue was the lack of reference to flight 180 which obviously makes a lot of sense now lol

That company also looks suspiciously like a dotcom in the office parts.
Clearly it wasn't a dotcom considering they are manufacturing... something... did they ever say what?
Minor quibble, but that office and that factory being (apparently) in the same building or even part of the same company never seemed real to me.

In Sam's premonition Molly appears to survive, which is why Peter thinks that by killing her he will save himself. However, during the plane crash at the end, Molly dies before Sam. This could mean that Molly was also meant to die on the bridge but Sam simply never saw it happen. However, it is also possible that she cheated death when Sam saved her from Peter, which caused her to go on Death's list. Furthermore, in Sam's premonition, the bus is one of the first vehicles to fall off the bridge. When the bridge actually collapses, the bus is one of the last vehicles to fall off the bridge, showing how much he changed reality by cheating death.
Olivia's, Isaac's and Candice's deaths don't really make sense. Eye surgery lasers are not powerful enough to cause an eye burn, let alone skin burn, to prevent accidents like this. The worst damage they can do is irritate the eye for a few days. No doctor would leave the room in the middle of surgery, the glass would not break so easily and the water dispenser should not be so close to the outlet. Also, Olivia's eye is burned by the laser but once her eye falls out, a close-up of it reveals it looking undamaged. However, it is probably the other eye which was foreshadowed with her ripping the teddy bear's eye out. Although heavy and high up, the Buddha statue that fell on Isaac's head may have had enough force to crush his skull but not enough to completely flatten his head. Lastly, it is highly unlikely someone could break their spine by falling from such a low height the way Candice did.
Additionally, some of the deaths in the premonition don't make sense. Isaac tumbles down before he hits the windshield but since he's flying through the air, tumbling shouldn't have happened. Olivia also falls into the water and although she survives the fall she is crushed by the car, but the impact alone should have killed her because hitting water from this height would be like hitting concrete (which is usually fatal).
After Flight 180 explodes at the end, its landing gear crashes into a bar, killing Nathan. According to a news report shown on TV that Alex watches in the first movie, the majority of the debris of Flight 180 fell into the Atlantic Ocean after it exploded shortly after takeoff. However, the explosion can be seen hurdling the landing gear towards the city, thus, it would appear that the landing gear was the only piece of debris that fell on land. The fact that it kills Nathan shows the craftiness of Death's designs.
The bridge collapse is inspired by the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse in 1940, which was caused in part by high winds but mainly due to poor construction. Peter's death is based on a the death of Leslie Ince who was impaled by a 22-inch meat skewer in his own home. Additionally, someone HAS died from an acupuncture needle stabbing into the heart after falling off the table.
Reminiscent of the bridge collapse is the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore on March 26th after being struck by the container ship Dali, which lost power shortly before. The ship's crew who survived and did not sustain any serious injuries were able to notify officials with a mayday call that allowed authorities to stop traffic but there were still some cars on the bridge. Two people were rescued from the river. Six construction workers are presumed dead-Three bodies have been recovered. Authorities are still working to establish exactly how the crash occurred.
William Bludworth (the coroner) says he's "seen this before" but seeing as this one actually takes place before the events of the first one then that means there was at least one other disaster before the bridge collapse.
According to writer Eric Heisserer, it was always meant to be a prequel and the idea came from series producer Craig Perry.
Director Steven Quale was the Second Unit director for James Cameron's Titanic and Avatar.
It was shot and released in 3D like the previous movie.
Ashley Tisdale auditioned for the role of Candice (she also auditioned for roles in 3 and 4).
Canadian Olympian Brittany Rogers is the gymnast on the balance beam while Candice is on the uneven bars.
A sixth movie is set to be released in 2025 under the name Final Destination: Bloodlines. It is said to be a reboot that will deviate from the standard formula the series is known for and is centered around first responders.
    Clues to the twist ending:
The expiry date on the gift certificate Isaac steals from his dead co-worker's drawer is 6/30/01; when Sam looks at his plane ticket right before the crash the date is clearly displayed as May 13th 2000; Nathan using the famous line "I see dead people" from The Sixth Sense (which was released in 1999) during the funeral; Flags on the walls of the gymnasium leading up to the year 2000; the old-fashioned office phones in both the company building and the eye doctor's office; the characters' older cellphones (most people had smartphones by 2011); the older computers and the older TV (most had been replaced by flat-screen computers/TVs by 2011); and the Liberty license plate on William Bludworth's van which was used in New York until 2001.
    References/foreshadowing:
In keeping with series tradition, several of the main characters are named after famous horror directors: Peter Friedkin is named after The Exorcist director William Friedkin, Candice Hooper is named after Tobe Hooper who directed both The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & Poltergeist, and Olivia Castle is named after William Castle who directed both The Tingler & The House on Haunted Hill.
At the memorial service, the second name on the plaque is Chris Boylan-a reference to Christine Boylan, wife of the movie's writer Eric Heisserer, and also the inspiration for the laser eye surgery scene (after she had undergone such a treatment which "scared the Hell out of him").
The video they are watching on the bus is describing the corporate retreat company they will be working with-The company's name is "180 Corporate Consulting".
The restaurant that Sam works in is called "Le Cafe Miro 81" - The same cafe seen at the end of the first movie. When viewed upside down, the last three letters of the name look like "180".
Sam and Molly's assigned seat number on the plane is 23-the same one where Clear sits and the pile-up from the second movie happened on Route 23.
The picture that Olivia knocks off her desk was taken at Devil's Flight, the rollercoaster from the third movie. After she knocks it over, the crack in the frame is centered on her right eye, foreshadowing her death. Furthermore, in the premonition, Olivia dies due to a car falling on top of her; in reality, she dies when she falls on top of a car.
The spa is called "Ming Yun" which means "fate" or "destiny" in Chinese.
During the gymnastic scene the cord plug looks like a skull.
The name of the company the eight survivors work for is called Presage Paper-"Presage" means a sign or warning that something bad will happen.
Again, the opening credits reference deaths from previous movies.
When Nathan brings beer to the office you can see a model airplane, truck and race car in Sam's cubicle-references to FD1, 2 and 4 that are actually foreshadowing as this is a prequel.
Next to the bus, Sam sees a truck loaded with logs.
A picture of Roy standing next to the #6 race car, which caused the crash on the racetrack in the fourth movie is seen in the bar.
Sam dies the exact way Alex died in his premonition.
    Cast:
Nicholas D'Agosto (Sam) was in the 1999 movie Election with Reese Witherspoon as well as movies Fired Up! and Prada To Nada, along with appearing on TV series such as Heroes, Masters of Sex, Gotham, Trial & Error, The Office and Grey's Anatomy.
Emma Bell (Molly) has starred in movies such as Frozen (NOT the Disney movie but an adventure/thriller from 2010) and Hatchet II with Tony Todd (William Bludworth) as well as TV series such as The Walking Dead and a Dallas reboot.
Miles Fisher (Peter) has often been likened to Tom Cruise and he parodied the actor in Superhero Movie in 2008. In the early 2020s, Fisher saw a deepfake video by Chris Ume, a Belgian visual effects artist in which Fisher's eyes were replaced with those of Cruise. Fisher and Ume subsequently collaborated on videos of Fisher posing as the actor, which quickly went viral. He is also a musician and released a video for his song New Romance, which features the main actors in this movie in a Final Destination/Saved by the Bell parody in which most are killed in freak accidents.
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Olivia) is most known for her role as Steffy Forrester in The Bold and the Beautiful which she has played on-and-off from 2008 and won three Daytime Emmy Awards for. She appeared in the pilot of CW's Arrow but was replaced by another actress for the remainder of the series as well as the comedy series Anger Management alongside Charlie Sheen and hosted a show on E! called Party On (where she visited some of the best party scenes around the world). She is also a DJ/singer.
Courtney B. Vance (Agent Jim Block) has been in many movies, series and stage productions; including The Hunt for Red October, Space Cowboys, The Preacher's Wife, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, The Mummy reboot and Ben is Back. He is married to Angela Bassett.
P.J. Byrne (Isaac) has been in movies such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Rampage, Bombshell and Babylon as well as series such as The Legend of Korra, Justice League Action, Big Little Lies, The Boys and Never Have I Ever.
Arlen Escarpeta (Nathan) starred as Bobby Brown in Lifetime's Whitney (about Whitney Houston) as well as the movies Into the Storm (also directed by Steven Quale) and a remake of Friday the 13th. He has also been in series such as American Dreams, The Magicians and The Oath.
David Koechner (Dennis) was on The Office where his character also works for a newspaper company.

I also think that Molly was supposed to survive on that bridge because it was deaths design that she was destined to die on the plane to Paris. That's the tragedy. And that it was her fault the sequence start happening again for flight 180 students. But I think if she broke up with Sam and never got on that plane maybe she would've lived. Maybe Alex wouldn't have had the premonition and the plane would've been fine. I'm not sure about Sam though.

Saying "no doctor would leave Olive alone in a room like that" is not true, you're acting like there isnt a single doctor in this world who isnt irresponsible or dumb or something, saying no doctor would do that is like saying "no doctor would perform a surgery on a patient while being under the influence" or "no doctor would intentionally kill his patients" but both of those things have happened before, Im sure there have been a bunch of cases in which a person went to go get lasic and the doctor ended up leaving them alone in the room, in a perfect world no doctor would do that but we dont live in a perfect world, that eye doctor could very well have been an irresponsible guy and left her there. It honestly feels like a lot of the thinges your rant about in this comment is just "The water dispenser shouldnt have been that close to the outlet, the window should have been stronger, this thing should have been like this" like yeah that's how they SHOULD have been but it's not like it's physically impossible or even improbable for them to not be like that. You also just have a bunch of incorrect statements like "Candice's spine shouldn't have snapped from a fall that high" like huh? Isnt that literally the same exact way that Melanie Coleman died? She was a gymnist swinging on a bar when she slipped and her spinal cord snapped, causing her to die, deaths like that can and do happen, also falling from a bridge into water can be survivable it's kinda why professional divers have been able to dive into water from up to 193 feet up in the air, water does hit like concrete but you can still kick through the water to make the impact less damaging, like honestly a lot of what you wrote here is just wrong, like just fully wrong

And if you look back at all of the stuff throughout the movie; the cars, the types of phones, types of computers, etc, you can see it all in relation to the early 00s. I had an acer desktop PC that was small enough to fit in my handbag (purse) with a flat-ish screen LCD monitor. Apple released their first LCD flat screen in 1998, in fact. And yes.. we had flip phones. Motorola released the first one in 1996. By early 2000s their Razr flip phone was one of the most popular phones ever made. My dad bought me the first colour screen phone with internet access available on the market when I was 16 and that was back in 1999..

The amount of flat screens vs round CRTs a bit sus, but not impossible. Flat screens did exist at the time.
Still, I think it was easier to guess this is a prequel when it came out then now. The flip phones are a dead giveaway.
Aside from that, it's wild to go back and watch the first 1/3 or so of the first movie after all the movies that followed. It was playing as a fairly straight drama, long before it got so tongue in cheek.

I’m happy I read the comments because I was like no way I dreamed this reaction 😂 I still can’t believe “Saw” won over “Kill Bill” but fair I guess. I still think Apocalypto directed by Mel Gibson should make the polls one day I can almost bet it beats out anything you out up with it.😊

I think they made the vision on the bridge different from the others. I think Molly also supposed to die in the bridge but unlike the other movies, the one having the vision was not the one to die last. Maybe Molly was supposed to die last and Sam didn't saw it because he died before her. That would also explain why Molly died in the Plane Crash.

Commenting again. Sucks your first vid got blocked. The twist at the end was sooo good.Yo, the reaction in that movie theatre was wild. I had FD3, FD2, FD1, FD5 as my faves in that order. But I think I can move FD5 up a little. Such a great franshise. Wondering if we gonna get a FD6. They can crank them out like Fast and the Furious at this point.😄

The weirdest thing about this one is that there is basically a climactic boss fight at the end before the epilogue. The other ones don’t have that. Closest thing is the goth dude from 3 but that’s not really a fight

In the premonition, Sam and Molly nearly saved Olivia but still end up falling down the bridge and died. Then later on, Sam and Molly also nearly saved her when she's having the lasik surgery but still end up falling and died.

    My second/other favourite FD movie
Got the pretty blonde Molly / Emma Bell (seen in Adam Green movie: Frozen ⛷️) and there's Miles Fisher classic acting turning vengeful villain
Not many favourite kills mainly only Candice's bone breaking bummer 🤸🏻‍♀️ and classic bridge diaster - at Lions Gate Bridge (Vancouver)

We had old flatscreens and non-CRTs in the late 090s/early 2000s. And although the general peeps didn't get cellphones as much stateside cellphones were definitely out then. Like they had cellphones in the Digimon Movie because Japan adopted cellphones faster than the US did. :3
Also I personally thing the Candyman guy saying he saw it before was... well. He's death taunting and playing with them.

This franchise, obviously, has a BUNCH of gruesome, nasty ass death scene. And, to be completely honest with you boys, I’m a bit of a baby when it comes to shit like that/this.
But I can’t help but to watch and enjoy the Final Destination franchise due to how fun the premise and how good (most of) the films build tension/suspense/mystery while leading up to each death. The opening disasters are also fun addition to every film.
Now, having said that, my least favorite death of the franchise (As in, I can’t watch it as it’s too rough/gruesome for me.) is actually a tie between two of the kills in this movie, Candice’s gymnastic death and the pervert, racist POS in the massage parlor.
If I had to pick between to two as to which one is my “#1 Can’t Handle FD Death” (lol) has gotta be Candice’s as I *hate* (In a good way I guess? lol.) everything about it.
Meanwhile, I don’t mind the actual death of the asshole dude, with the fire and everything. But I canNOT deal with the acupuncture part when he falls off the table. Bleh.
Honestly, the more I think about it, this movie also contains my number 3 death that’s _incredibly_ hard for me to watch… the Eye Doctor scene. Similar to the Massage Parlor death, the actual way that she dies doesn’t really bother me at all. (Don’t get it twisted, I’m terrified of heights/falling so I would hate to actually go that way… not that _any_ of the deaths in this franchise are particularly alluring, lol… but it’s pretty easy to watch as a death in a movie .) It’s the suspenseful build up to her death that hella messed up. Her attached to that table so that she couldn’t move at ALL (Which seemed pretty wild to me!), with her eye being held open as the machine wigs the fuck out. Absolutely horrifying.
Sooo… yeah, FD5 is _easily_ one of best in the franchise. If not _the_ best. It hits all of the needed points just as well as the other films (Such as the opening disaster and whatnot.) It has that awesome twist at the end. And it has a plethora of kills that are done so well that I can’t even handle some of them. lol.
Thanks for another great reaction, guys!! It’s been a pleasure as usual! ❤

I am surprised that not a single one of you put together the fact that Candy Man did not know what he was talking about. First (in 5) he said take a life to get a life, that did not work. Then with Alex (in 1) he said 'figure out the design and that failed. Then with film 2 he told them they needed new life...see he was always wrong and he just didn't know anything, and EVERYONE clutched at the straw he offered. Also one of you praised the other for saying the film was a 180, but that is not correct, it was actually a 360 a circle.

Highly recommend the chucky franchise! The tv show is AMAZING! It explains the lore & goes deeper into it, connects to the movies, great lgbt representation ( bigots hate it bc they claim it “ruins chucky” when chucky was always queer coded and the creator is a gay man ) AMAZING & GRUESOME kills i mean for a tv show these kills are GORY

Isaac (the perv) is played by PJ Byrne. Dunno if you guys ever saw Legend of Korra, but he plays Bolin in it (and you can hear it).
I will say this movie has the funniest death in the franchise to me; Candice. For those who don't know, those gymnastic mats are not Yoga mats. They're designed to heavily cushion hundreds of pounds landing on them. Her landing on it and breaking as if it were cement is the one moment in the franchise that I (and my former gymnast mother) actually laughed at how ridiculous the death was. I mean, we often laugh at the deaths because they're amazing, but that's the only one that is too far removed from reality for us.
