Entropy Zero 2 rocked, and I'm glad it was the mod of the year. It even made me love carrying a very special friend around my first time playing.
Yeah, 100% deserved that award. Tried giving the team some cash on Ko-Fi but they only take donation via paypal unfortunately.
@@some1stoleit hey entropy zero two is standalone, breaking the rules as it doesn’t have the mod tag
Bill Clinton is not a game but still managed to win a Game of the year award somehow
Finished playing entropy 1 and 2 recently. Absolutely loved it.
Entropy Zero 2 is still not in the same universe of the HL universe.
A 58 minute long video from a channel with 310 subscribers.
The amount of effort put in this early on in your youtube journey is insane. Definitely deserves a sub from me, and atleast 100k others.
Quality shit bro
Go hard or go home. Not a bad a philosophy. I really wanted to challenge myself so I thought make a long video like Caddicurrus, even if I don't have his following.
I remember once I downloaded like 2 dozen mods for half life 2 and played through them in like 3 days playing nothing else haha
A good half life 2 mod feels so familiar but fun. Best thing is they're almost always free.
@@some1stoleitand that's the place hunt down the Freeman should be
@@some1stoleit genrys great escape from city 10 is this guys first mod, cut him some slack
No
How you managed to do it brudda? I can't even finish Half Life franchise in a week 😂
Great video!
As of free single player mods on steam, you miss these ones:
Transmissions: Element 120
Estranged: Act I and II
Requiem Of Science
I just discovered Transmission after finishing the video, would've been a great inclusion. Recommend that one.
I played the rest except Requiem of Science, have to check that out.
@@epoch151 Yes, I checked and the name is "Estranged: The Departure" and is not free but I got it free when it was released or before because of playing the demo or alpha/beta version.
Btw, I recommend the steam curators "Source Engine Games", "Source?" and "Source. Gold source. Source 2 Engine groups" to follow existing and future mods.
Is Estranged act II called estranged departure?
@@alienpl107 yes
Also Prospekt
Nice video. Hope you continue to cover more HL stuff and expand your audience.
Fun fact: Entropy Zero and From Earth, as unrelated as it seemed to be, is actually anything but. The devs of the latter previously made Human Error, a mod where you play as Civil Protection (same as EZ franchise). You also get to deploy manhacks (like EZ1), remote-control them, and drive the APC (like EZ:2). In fact, the manhack and APC vehicle codes used in EZ1/2 is directly from Human Error and they're properly credited for.
Thanks. I'll probably do a list like this for Half Life 1, I'd like to do one for Half Life Alyx, but I can barely run that game let alone record it.
Interesting but of trivia you brought up. I'll have to check out this Human Error mod, I do remember downloading a few where you play as combine but I'm not sure if that was one of them.
@@some1stoleit Human Error is good, although ends on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved.
It's so good to finally have someone talk about From Earth, this game has had a special place in my heart ever since I first tried it. I feel like the language system is the most complex of any language based games and really replicates the experience of learning an alien language amazingly. Thanks for talking about it
I second this. Watch my full length video review when it comes out. Let's get the unreal engine 4 remake out by showing how much we want it!!!
It seems weird logistique doesn’t let you use medkits since you see rebels use them in-game..
Then again they do use metrocop gear. Maybe something in the gear allows for the usage of grub in the vials directly?

you forgot a few like Transmissions: Element 120 and the fabled JBMod but overall nice video, anything that puts more spotlight on entropy zero 2 is good content in my book
Thanks! I discovered Transmission after finishing the video, would've been a great inclusion. Definitely recommend.
this video should have more views it was really well done
Thank you! It's my best performing video I've put effort into so hopefully the momentum keeps going and the view go up.
Excellent review man, you put me on to some hidden gems I skipped over! Thx for giving entropy zero 2 the attention it deserves, that mod is honestly a wonderful game in its own right. You got a new sub bro 👍
Thanks for bringing _Resistance Element_ to my attention!
That one has eluded me until now...
Unlike Genry's or Fast Detect, this one's got really good reviews too, cheers
Great to hear. That's exactly my goal for this video.
The language-puzzle in From Earth reminds me of having to learn the counting system and its associated symbols in Riven: The Sequel to Myst, so if you're intrigued by it you might consider giving that game a shot
edit: this video was very enjoyable!
Thanks.
I'll take a look at Riven. Some of those older puzzle games didn't hold your hand at all, sometimes you have to get a piece of paper out and start taking notes! Though you have to learn how to spot between the ones that are just unfair and the ones that give good challenge.
Riven is definitely one you'll want a notebook for. But the challenge is very fair and like real without being cheap. Nothing went unconsidered. I hope you enjoy it!
Love these kind of videos! From Earth is by far one of the most interesting looking mods I've seen, thank you for taking a look at these. Looking forward to watching more videos, subscribed!
Getting mods like From Earth seen is half the goal the of the videos. Gland you enjoyed.
Great video! Highly nostalgic
To be fair, Wilson Chronicle's history goes FAR beyond Black Mesa. It has seen at least two restarts in it's lifespan. The first time I discovered Wilson Chronicles was in 2008. It was originally a Half-Life mod, but after a long hiatus, they restarted as a Half-Life 2 mod, and later again as a Black Mesa mod in the 2010s.
Interesting fact. Mod history can get pretty wild, and also very undocumented.
This video is great, you deserve more subscribers.
From Earth was such an incredible game, I wish it got the attention it deserved... well worth the time it took to learn it’s unique mechanics.
Snow drop escape was probably the Half - Life 2 Beta Leak we all wanted 😭
Hi Ronald! Having played through these mods, I feel that your breakdowns of them are accurate and I really appreciated the points you raised. You have great taste! I'd love to hear more! Subbed! :]
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it all.
Great video! never been a fan of HL2 modding but now i got some stuff to check out 👍
Reviewing every HL2 mod in ModDB will take a century to do
Man I thought you had 10k subs since how good the quality is. you deserve way more
Great review video... thanks for the effort
Never heard about from earth before, amazing video! Keep it up bro
Thanks! Hopefully someone will watch the video and can figure out how From Earth works, I still can't beat it without getting violent.
Great video, really enjoyed the content! If you tighten up your audio editing a bit, I can see your channel taking off in a big way :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! Could you elaborate what you mean about tightening up the audio, do you mean balancing the different sources or something else?
Good stuff cant wait to see what you make next
Thanks! Stay tuned.
I'm honestly shocked with the lack of views and subscribers here, a really well made video. Keep it up.
This video is good quality, I didn’t even realize this guy only has 200ish subscribers he deserves way more!
Thank you, it's very flattering to hear that. Hope to build the subs with more videos this year
Thanks for giving me a list of mods to play. Some of these I haven't played (ie Amalgam) but some I have (Snowdrop Escape, the EZ series, etc)
Great to hear. I love getting some lesser known but good games attention using the channel.
Huge fan of Half-Life 2 mods so this video was a great surprise to show up in my recommended videos. Would love to see another video on some of the other mods present on RTSL.
Thanks. I might do a similar video for Half Life 1, or maybe a deep dive if for a single mod if it has alot of content in it. Were there any new mods in the video that stuck out to you?
@@some1stoleit I've played through the majority of the "good" ones on here multiple times so I enjoyed hearing about the lesser quality mods or the few that I've been eyeing to play like Logistique Act 1. At the same time, I also enjoyed hearing someone else's opinion on some of my favourites like downfall.
@@Hyper_1989 Glad to have provided that experience for you!

Thank you so much, great to hear.
Awesome video. I always try finding downloadable mods on steam
Yeah a lot of good free mods and games on PC, no microtransactions included.
I love it! You got a new sub.
Thanks you!
Insurgency and its sequel Insurgency: Sandstrom has a the same ammo checking mechanic as Logistique also requiring to hold R to check it.
I tried playing insurgency, I ended up getting shot by someone I couldn't see most of the time.
I really like the idea of a realistic tactical shooter but I'm kinda rubbish at them.
Maybe if I had a group to play with I would've stuck with it.

Thanks. More to come next year for sure!
All the music put together for entropy zero is very impressive, not only sounding good but also falling right in line with music made for HL2 and the episodes. Very well done and and awesome video
Thanks! Other mods in the video had their own soundtrack. But Entropy Zero's one really stuck out for me. Was the only one o searched for outside the game
@@some1stoleit Fun fact: Breach and Escape is a remixed version of Apprehension and Evasion and the names are opposites too.
This video has inspired me to download some of these mods. Thanks!
From Earth sounds amazing. Can't believe there aren't more games with that concept, it's so interesting.
The video seems to have directed a few others to play it. I'm really happy the video brought some light to From Earth.
It was nice mod with good concept but too bad just it was too buggy(and I haven't any interest to play it...also, because the team was abandoned their well received HL2 mod - Human Error, after released EP1 and was teased EP2 on EP1's ending - to develop the From Earth mod...made me felt very weird when they released From Earth mod...), feel bad to them because the main dev seems suffered depression because of the mod's status according the latest and the last news post on the official website and then seems no more of updates(possible going to UE4 engine, not sure, since no more update after that last post, and nothing seems going on...), that's just too bad...
Underhell and Black Mesa are actually also mods to the HL2
I find it crazy Cry of Fear was a Half life mod
From earth feels very special
Cool video man! I suggest getting some chill background music that you can cut in and out at certain times for effect as well as some more visual editing, a channel I can suggest that I think does this wonderfully but his subject is different so obviously you can’t copy and paste his model you’ll have to meld it to your model, his name is summoning salt and he reviews the history of speed running in various games. Keep up the great work my man, I subbed ❤
Thank you very much! I have been meaning to check out summoning salt actually, I'll see what from his style I could adapt. I'm a bit curious about what you mean by more visual editing? What specifically could I add?
@@some1stoleit it’s kind of hard to explain honestly, so I would have to imagine that’s in the eye of the beholder, some people have mascots or just ambient clips to break the pacing, but man it’s your channel you do whatever you want!
No worries. Got a new video, should be out by end of the year, I'll try experimenting a bit with the format.
nice video bro keep it up
Thanks, will do. Very encouraged from how this video did.
Amazing video!
i cannot belive you only have 176 subs! you deserve more :)
the only "problems" with your video is that sometime we can barely hear you and the long silent pause with gameplay (maybe some calm/chill/whateveryouwant music in the background would be great?) other than that the video is really really good :)
you gained a sub :)
also will you make a review of popular modDB mods? (ex: Underhell, Nightmare House 2, Too many crates!, Age of Chivalry, Watching paint dry, ect...)
Thanks. I'm working on improving audio. There's more half life content to come. May cover those mods in future.
@@some1stoleit thats great :)

You deserve more subscribers
logistiques beginning intro sounds like it was recorded by pyrocynical, seeing hes voiced before i think its safe to assume it is him.
Thank You Great Man
Thank you!
The whole thing about logistique preventing you from using medkits doesnt make alot of since since the rebels carry them and use them
From Earth is so underrated. I finished and enjoyed it. I'm glad it was mentioned
O Patto Patto!
good stuff homeslice
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video
thank you cuz of this video i discovered new mods for half-life 2 if u find new mods pls set those mods on a list when u make a part 2 of this video
Only 200 subscribers? My man, you at least deserve 10x more if you keep making high-quality content like this!
Good video.
Thanks! Might do the next one on Portal mods. Lots of meaty mods on steam for it.
There was a mod called Bear Party: Adventure but it was removed from Steam. The reason I'm assuming is that the characters looked too much like the care bears and lawyers got involved.
The mod is still on ModDB under the name Bisounorus Party. I don't know how different the mod version is from the Steam version.
(I'm gonna link the mod as a reply for this comment just in case RUclips wants to mark the link as spam. If you're not RonaldNand and you don't see the link, then I'm sure you can guess what happened.)
I can't see any comments held for review. But if you google the name of the mod its not hard to find.
The commentary is amazing and the reviews too, I'm surprised you don't have more subscribers from the quality of this content
The channel started a few months ago. I'm really happy this is the first video to take off, other videos were about more niche games and VR. Things are definitely looking positive for the channel in 2023.
@@some1stoleit Yeah, your channel has a bright future
You should do a follow up video of going through the most popular HL2 mods from moddb that aren't on steam
Good idea. Big undertaking though.
very good video, thanks
Thanks!
From Earth sounds very interesting and unique. I'll have to check it out.
this channel is underrated ngl
Thank you!
Still can't believe this is the only review of From Earth on RUclips. Was inspired to make that two. I'm making my own video essay review of From Earth. Stay tuned and keep up your amazing work. I hope you get big on RUclips, and thanks for inspiring me to create something of my own.
That'll be an interesting watch. Since I assume you'll actually finish playing the mod!
@@some1stoleit i studied ancient latin for 8 years and modern green for 2. I am a language nerd and picked up the game easily. Namely, and this may be gibberish to you, but the eluridian language is analytic with slight synthetic components. In other words, the language only has some declinable nouns (namely reflexive words like asi asu.) and no conjugatable verbs (no verb tenses either which was the biggest sad of all), meaning word placement in sentences matters and subject verb object is the norm, which was a tad disappointing but made the game easy enough to not require a guide.
@@johnnylew9455 Sounds like you'll bring a interesting perspective to the game for sure. I'll sub to your channel so I catch the vid, otherwise post a link in the comment thread so we can all know.
thanks im getting some of these
Really nice video with neat concept, really does deserve more views. Only problem with it is the audio editing quality, which might be scaring some people off, you have too many audio cuts between lines. Normally you could do this in a video but the mic is picking up you gulping and taking breaths and clearing you throat every time which really just messes with everything. Plus even when it doesn't the pauses between each line disrupts the pacing and makes it way less enjoyable to listen to.
Like at 2:05, there isn't any reason to have that pause there and it messes with the flow of the scene, especially since your mic picks up you moving your tongue it makes a weird abrupt cut to the noise. It's just a very artificial cut in the video where you instead could have just kept talking.
Otherwise, everything else is pretty good, and feel free to ask about anything else about the video or for clarification on what I'm trying to say here, would love to help you on that. Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback. I'm getting some new audio equipment and learning how to use some audio editing equipment so next videos should have better audio. Especially to get rid of background noises, I want to get an automated way to get rid of them. I was doing it manually so I wouldn't catch them all.
Audio is the most challenging thing I've had to learn. Check out my Filcher video is you want to see how bad it was at first.
I'll try cutting out the pauses. I thought leaving them in would make better pacing but most feedback is that they make things sound unnatural.
Hey, I really liked your video. I recommend keeping some slight background noise (whether it be game noise from your clips or stock music) while you're commentating. It makes it far less obvious where your narration takes start and stop.
Audio should be better in next video got some upgrades, less pauses too. Personally I have some hearing difficulties so I try to keep the audio clear, but background audio is something a lot of people recommend so I'll experiment with it.
Weel, Amalgam got updated since this video was released, so maybe it is worth another look?
i didnt know a lotta mods here, thank you so much. your reviews helped a lot. underrated video, really.
honestly the mechanism in logistique seems really different from typical half life mod, i like it. just got my attention, i think it has a big potential.
also you didnt review hdtf(jk).
Thanks, glad to have helped. My goal was to get some attention on these mods, especially the very obscure ones like From Earth.
Amalgam got a new amazing update that definitely makes it worth playing now!
Cool, might check it out sometime.
27:03 THIS IS ABOUT TO GO ALL BHAGDAD AND SHIT! * horde incoming sound *
i actually remember playing From Earth, and checking my library apparently i played a bit of it a couple months after it came out, and the entire reason i recognized it was the prompt to fist bump Anthony
also, a mod you missed that i remember enjoying was Transmissions: Element 120
Transmissions slipped past me. Played it after the video came out, very enjoyable mod.
Thanks for the video, on steam you should also play :
- Evacuation
- Requiem of Science
- Transmissions: Element 120
- Swelter (new)
good video but I kept thinking your mouse cursor was an insect
from earth is both weird and difficult but unique half-life 2 mod that will never get finished or get a proper dev team for a remake
it basically feels like alien mirrors edge but adventure rather then action
edit: the way that they made full body in source engine feels like similar or same as zeno clash
Red orchestra 2 has sole of the ammo stuff too
45:00 I always imagined the player as a reprogramed stalker or combine soldier merged with a HEV
Certainly could be, even today I don't have a full understanding of the lore.
13:46 Not sure what's happening there! It almost looks like the map is trying to use the "Fullbright" setting. I don't think the game showed a user interface because you never ended up wearing the HEV Suit. Putting on the suit it is scripted to input the HUD. You can sometimes force it using sv_cheats 1 than cl_drawhud 1 command. This is happens with older broken mods and the HUD not loading.
Bro what do you mean, Genry's Great Escape is the best Half Life 2 mod ever!
😄 If you enjoyed it I'm happy for you!
at 55:30 you mention no other game has really accomplished this sort of mechanic, however i feel a game called "No man's sky" has really replicated it.
I recall something about alien traders in that game. Might have to play it sometime, it's a rare game that actually got good after disastrous launch
@@some1stoleit yeah that was what I was thinking of.
Well... you were right. I didnt recognize a few of the mods showcased here. I might try a few if the new ones
Awesome. Hope you enjoy them!
From Earth seems interesting, here's hoping it gets more attention.
I think you forgot one mod, Transmissions: Element 120
Its a really cool mod set in HL2s universe with beautiful levels comparable to those seen in Fast Detect. But unlike fast detect its actually just fun as the puzzles are good and you get whats basically the AR2s secondary fire but as an unlimited gun.
I played this after finished the video. Good mod, wishes it lasted longer though.
Thank you for reviewing my mod Amalgam! I'm working on an update which will improve many things (hopefully).
Awesome video overall :)
This was great, you should do one for portal/portal 2 mods
Thanks. Good idea I played a few portal 2 mods, some really good and long ones. Would make a good video
I just realized that Minverva's location is literally just The Silent Cartographer and Assault on the Control Room From Halo CE.
Halo could've certainly been an influence. Looks great either way.
After playing both downward and year long alarm, I can say that its not really fair to lump both of them in. Thats simply because year long alarm isn't near as good compared to downward. Year long alarm feels like a pretty primitive and inconsistent mod whereas downward feels almost masterful with its level and encounter design. also play minerva metastasis if youre reading this, best mod ive ever played.
Entropy is something I have been looking for a long time
Finally we can play the other side
And it's not the cookie cutter "bad guys are bad"
Yeah, it's not often we get a straight up villain protagonist in games.
I remember playing the Wilson Chronicles a year-or-so back. If I remember correctly I had to noclip once or twice and one level load trigger didn’t work. During the entire game the HUD was not visible in the slightest because it was stretched off the screen. From what I’ve heard the game has been in development since like 2012 which I find bs. Afterwards I of course wrote a negative review and was ready to move on after giving my criticism. This would all be fine if not for the sole dev getting so angry he wrote 3 separate responses in the comments basically saying that it was my fault and insulting my review. To my knowledge he hasn’t fixed the load trigger bug or any of the others. To this day he responds to reviews blowing off any criticism by saying it’s in beta. Kinda sad ngl, had some good potential.
I was happy to experience Entroy Zero 2, I somehow finished the game on the harder difficulty with frame drop is critical battles. Guess I'm too used on HL2 combat thanks for my infinite hours of playing around with the npcs.
O even got a trophy for keeping a squad of 5 combines alive, I had to KEEP them inside to avoid conflict while I deal with the jet pack rebels myself just so they stay safe.
"From Earth" is deffiniteky something I never heard of but curious to experience it. In fact, some of these mods I never heard of, guess I have a new list to try t some point in the future........ One day..... For what's left of my other Half-Life.
Sorry for the dumb question but how do I go about finding Community-Made HL2 mods on Steam? Thank you for providing links to each of the mods discussed here, I just want to know if there is a way to easily search for them and sort them on Steam?
What I did was search for half life 2/episode 2 then scroll down to the bit that says community mods and click see all. Should be before the reviews. You can also search from directly which is the same as using the links.
so entropy zero 1 and 2 is just max payne 4?
I'll comment, you need more subscribers and more attention this is great
Thank you. I'm really pleased with the view count on this one. Hope to get a few more subs with upcoming videos.
@@some1stoleit as a fellow small RUclipsr, I understand how monumental this kind of video is, so from the bottom of my heart I wanted to say congrats! Way more effort than I put into my videos.
@@mediocrecontent2449 Thank you that really means alot. My first videos were bombing so bad even though I put as much effort as this one. So this was was really encouraging as you said. A lot of lessons I picked up during those first videos.
@@some1stoleit I’ve found that my older videos did better than my newer ones. I broke 1K views like 5 times and broke 10k once on a seven second clip about 4 or 5 years ago. Now 100 views is great for me. I even put more effort into mine now, lol. Of course there’s other reasons why it wouldn’t take off much as the game I’ve been making content for so far is a smaller game, but good luck to you!
@@mediocrecontent2449 I had a quick look at your channel. You present well, could improve your audio and make your visuals more interesting. You seem to cover more niche games, which is fine if that's what your passionate about making. If you don't enjoy making the video it won't turn out good so I would never recommend playing something more popular but you don't like playing.
Have your tried any self promotion on Reddit or communities where the game is played? I think this video wouldn't have done nearly as well if I didn't do a little self promotion on Reddit. I think it got shared on a modding site but can't find the post.
Anyways you've been at making videos for a while so I'm guessing you enjoy making them regardless of views.
Thank you for the kind words and all the best with your channel. Happy to chat more if you want.
Lot of these I've completely forgotten I tried before
Lots of mods like that for me. Deus Ex, Thief, Half Life 1. It's only when I see the mod again the memories come back.
G-String is also a HL2 mod on steam I believe. Expensive though for a mod.
Fun fact: Genry's great escape's demo hasn't released yet.
Should've included Swelter, a better version of Snowdrop with way less puzzles.
wait prospekt * the mod * is standalone?
I feel like you were a bit harsh on Logistique's platforming. I don't disagree that it felt awkward, but I also feel like you made it sound a lot more troubling than it actually is.
I'm suprised G-String wasn't mentioned. Didnt get that far in it, but its pretty good its like Half-Life 2 but Cyberpunk and set in (correct me if I'm wrong please) Korea?
G string, became it's own paid game on Steam. I haven't played it yet. It might be good for a video covering all source games on steam
@@some1stoleit OH! I would love to see that in the future!
What about Prospekt?
good video, though it's too quiet, there's a lot of silent space which makes it awkward to watch
im not sure if this counts here or anything (espically since its not for free and it actually uses Portal 2 engine) but there is a game called "INFRA" which imo i found pretty interesting, pretty much failed to noticed that it even ran on source the first time. the starting part of this game may seem boring but imo it gets better somewhere after the Raft section.
Interesting. I'm going to wishlist that one.
you shoudl take a look at Lambda wars, it's a full fledged RTS made as an HL2 mod, it now has its standalone installation
Been trying to learn RTS for a while might check that one out
