Some gyms do slabs of the week or boulder of the week, etc. Having a video every month of him climbing/breaking down climbs like that or even youtube shorts on this channel would be cool. He's just a natural at explaining and analyzing out loud, so any gym content (even a chill sesh for him) is engaging.

Hey Magnus, super pumped about this new channel! I’m really into the idea of a less polished, more spontaneous vibe. How about starting a series like ‘Magnus’s Misadventures’ where you dive into activities totally outside your climbing world? Think surfing, skateboarding, or even tackling a cooking challenge. It’d be a blast to see you navigating these unfamiliar territories! Also, ‘Flashback Climbs’ sounds like a gem - revisiting your old climbs and sharing the journey of how you’ve evolved could be both inspiring and insightful. And for something totally uncut, ‘Urban Jungle Climbing’ in unexpected city spots would be wild to watch - raw climbing in the midst of city life. This channel has the potential to show a whole new side of you, and I’m here for it. Excited to see you keeping it real and can’t wait to see what you roll out next. Keep crushing it, and let’s see where this adventure takes us! 🧗🚀🌍

Thanks for your comment about trad climbing. Most of my climbing was in the 70s and early 80s and when my wife or someone downplays the difficulty at the time, I try to explain that there is a big difference between 5.12 trad and 5.12 sport she sees nowadays. Also, I never owned or even knew anyone with anything like Friends. Placing pro on a hard move and a long runout does make a difference.

For someone who started Climbing in Yosemite in 1982, before the advent of sticky rubber & pre•placed bolts, there’s lots going on.
*Errors:* John Gill, Father of American Bouldering, not only introduced gymnastic chalk/carbonate of magnesium to Climbing, but also Dynamic Moves. In fact he named the move & introduced “Dynamic” into the Climbing Lexicon. Though 6’3” /190.5cm & 190 lbs/86kgs, he came from Gymnastics & Competitive Rope Climbing & adopted numerous concepts from both sports into Training for Climbing. Many of Professor Gill’s FA’s waited 20+ years before being repeated.
    Overall a smashing first start

I'm very excited for this channel!! In the first I believe clip the 'spotter' was actually just using a camcorder to film the climb - you can see it in their hand and then later resting on the rock as the people are falling into the bush/brambles. Probably not the best position to film in from a safety point of view but it would've made for a great shot if the climber had topped the route!

These type of videos are underrated.
People forget RUclips was meant to be about more low key and laid back content with people just being themselves.
This standard of highly produced videos is nice, but those are just essentially more TV shows. It's probably why things like streaming are so big. People miss the 'Broadcast yourself' side of internet content.

The one with colin reminded me of how a squirrel locks onto where it's going to land and how it's going to move in order to do that as soon as it either jumps or falls

Always talking about parkour. Knows who Toby is. These are great signs that Magnus will make some parkour content for us!

I will happily watch whatever content gets pumped out. But since it was asked I’d love to see the old style of being in the gym whether it’s for Q an A, getting Marta to try stuff, collabs like ondra, Louis Parkinson, whoever, or whether it’s just you in the gym. (Regardless of difficulty, could just be v3-v5). For me I always enjoyed the videos in a gym setting the most. That’s my personal favorites but again I’d watch most anything Magnus puts out😂

For the gym holds on outdoor rock,
    1. Its interesting how the first was a bright blue, but the rest were colored to match the rock so its less ugly (also, there was like 5 or 6 shown in the video but only 1 was very noticeable)
    2. Ideas why this could be better than keeping it natural:
    a. In a crag without many routes, and the ones there are very hard, having 1 of those converted to be easier to help the avg climber gain the beauty and experience is nice. ethically the "sum of the fun", so 10x more climbers can get 90% of the fun, is still 9x the total fun!
    b. If this route is like 6 pitches of 5.6 and 1 pitch of 5.13, I think making that 1 pitch go at 5.6 makes alot of sense too. (again, especially if there's more 5.13s nearby and no 5.6s nearby)

Rock should be left as rock.
If you’re too weak to climb a route without chipping holds or adding artificial holds, then you have no right being there. I’m too weak for one of my local crags, I’m not going to demand that they chip it to make it easier, I’m just gonna get stronger until I’m strong enough to climb there.

@@5tr4nge75 what if noone was strong enough to climb there, so the 2 outcomes are
      1. add artificial holds so it can be a developed crag (and if people are strong enough in the future, remove those artificial holds)
      2. The crag isn't ever used and therefore becomes an old dirty rock face in the middle of nowhere too unsafe to be climbed ever...
Would you still choose option 2?

    • @bsears693
      @bsears693 8 месяцев назад

To be clear, chilling holds is really bad. It's permanent. BUT adding on artificial holds isn't. Just bolt them on, and if you don't want them, fill the bolt hole and in most cases, you might not even know an artificial hold was there in the first place.

Also, as an exercise, sometimes I think of the 2 options extremes to see the outcomes. Here the 2 extremes are:
      1. Noone is ever strong enough to climb anything outdoors and therefore outdoor climbing isn't a thing
      2. Every route has added holds to allow anyone to climb any route, easy climbing is most accessible ever, but hard rock climbing doesn't exist.
Both outcomes arent very good so this exercise isn't super useful, but id figure id share that concept.
