@@AntonAdelson the mistake was free soloing! I knew the risks, and I thought it was worth the risk of death! Obviously I wasn’t right, but that’s what I thought!
@@TBIhope Ahh that's where I will respectfully disagree: it's possible to free solo without the risk of death. I say it after 14 years of parkour experience! Have you seen parkour videos on the internet? Would you say they risk death? ❤ I do understand what you went through though. *hug*
The climbing community consists of some of the most quality humans in existence. Everyone I have ever met climbing is so positive and encouraging. I highly recommend checking out your local climbing gym.
Maybe at the local level but the international scene seems to have a lot of extremely toxic/elitist people just judging from all the stories I've heard. There was a famous, well accomplished free soloer who once said the only reason people die freesoloing is they were bad. He predictably died free soloing.
@@pax6833 That might be more of a free-soloer thing, as in comps climbers tend to be pretty supportive of one another's achievements and they tend to get on pretty well climbing together outdoors. I guess these people are free-soloing due to being such terrible people that they can't find climbing partners since noone likes them, whereas everyone else needs to get on with other climbers to have someone to belay them or bring some more pads for bouldering
I'll second that, took my three young kids one at a time, we had three different people each time. They were excellent and nicer than a typical younger person would be.
As a rock climber of 5 years... you nailed it. Wish you would have picked on the speed climbers a bit more though. The synergy of the yoga pants with a climbing harness is real.
That shot of Alex casually eating that pepper is such an amazing meme worthy still from Magnus's video. You love to see it being causally thrown around in videos.
uhhhhh dunno where you’re getting your info but it isn’t even on the charts for most dangerous sport. it is only dangerous if you’re purposefully stupid or free solo’ing. Other than that you’re just looking at normal sports injuries of any at all.
Even free soloing is not in here dangerous. It’s risky. You can control and mitigate most of those risks (know the grade, check the weather forecast, wear a helmet if there maybe falling rocks etc…) Truly dangerous activities are where there are risks over which you have little or no control. Cycling is much more dangerous than rock climbing.
So many times I wanted to smack the like button, but realized that I already had! Great video! As a bouldering guy living in PNW, you absolutely killed me with the spot-on stereotyping 💀

personally you can get some really cheap high quality ones on people reselling cause they didnt fit right, or people that bought high tier shoes to use twice and then got bored. I got sportiva skawama real cheap last month for example
“…to suggest you could out-climb them even if you were a paraplegic” had me dying
The dress code section is the most succinct description and scathing critique in one that I have ever heard. Sooo good and sooo funny.
When the world was at his lowest he returned.
I tried those rock climbing walls (0:31) that are without safety rope. When I got high enough to get tired, I wanted to jump on the mats but the moment I looked down I understood what it's like to be a cat that stuck on the tree. Because as it turns out I have the fear of falling. What an experience it was xD
Yeah some bouldering gyms make really tall and dangerous boulders and don't even instruct new comers into how to handle the fall . Personally I'm not even a big fan of bouldering, I much rather climb with top rope, but boulders are popular and gyms should be a lot more responsible.
@@lavaot5207 The bouldering gym I go to taught me how to fall and I've never gotten hurt
It's really not that hard or that technical
6:01 "big beanie means snowboarder, normal beanie means climber, and tiny beanie means skateboarder"
He just cracked the code
He spent the past 2 years laboring over this video, truly the creator we deserve.
Man i love you stuff, even three years later your unique style and humor never fails to make me laugh, cant wait for that project. Much love
As a person who has been climbing for two years, all of this shit was spot on. Even the beanie one since I’m also a snowboarder but I definitely prefer my climbing beanie over any beanie.
This legend just summarized 3 video worth of info in the first 10 seconds, and just continued where he left on.
Definitely one of the best of the best content creator.
"I can fix him." had me giggling and rewinding for two minutes
I think Casually Explained uploading single-handedly saved my year. Praying he does it next year too.
The quick pace of this beautiful monologue is part of the comedy. And ive learned to try VERY hard not to laugh out loud for fear of missing the next best rapid fire joke. Long time subscriber whose been growing up with Causally Explained ❤
As a rock climber, there could be no better comeback video. Masterpiece.
1 million views in 20 hours? We clearly miss you, Casually Explained ❤
I truly appreciate your comeback! Explanation was casual, humor was witty. Subscriber is pleased.
thank fuck, good to know you're alive and well. was worried I'd never get to see another casually explained video ever again
The first date I ever went on after HS was to a climbing gym, it was terrible. I mean, I had a great time climbing walls for 3 hours but there was literally zero time for the two of us to actually talk or get to know each other in any way other than "oh, looks like they can also climb rocks for 3 hours." There wasn't a second date. (Also the date location wasn't my idea)
Ha, she wasn't into you. Bouldering is highly social, spending probably 75% of the time resting before trying again.
2:40 As an avid climber and an SSBU Ice Climbers main, I had no clue jokes could get this niche and specific lol
He has returned when everyone needed him, welcome back Casually Explained. It's been a dull year without ya'
It's been years since I watched your first videos and came across this. It's a relief to know that not only have you not changed your formula, but it hasn't gotten old. If anything, it's aged like a fine wine. Ye.
He’s right about aid. Recently I’ve had to come to terms with not being paralyzed and knowing I’ve been cheating the whole time.
I think we can all assume he spent the last year either being the overly friendly guy buying IPAs and talking about Whistler, or just watched free solo last month and went to a climbing gym for the last three weeks... Missed you Casually Explained!
Man that 'better opportunity joke' at 5:00 was some truly some great stuff. Missed that humor, hope it's smooth sailing with the project from here 'til your guys' reveal
as someone who goes rock climbing, i am happy to see his first video in ages is about rock climbing.
I’ve been taking a break from bouldering to focus on dancing but this video gave me the motivation to get out there again. Thanks Casual
Holy F***. Dude I hope you are Okay. I gave up on getting new videos from you and kept rewatching your entire channel over and over again. The fact that you are still making new videos is huge for me. Keep up the good work. Have a nice day.
you cannot imagine the sheer joy I felt when I saw that you uploaded. I think about your videos at least once a week. bless you and welcome back
you forgot to mention when a random kid appears and flashes your project
One minute in and I’m already loving it!! Haha I went free soloing and I never fell! Until the last time. I fell 70 feet off a cliff and spent three months in a coma. It took me two years to learn to walk again. Don’t free solo.
Ouch. Do you honestly think it couldve been prevented? Hope you recover 100% 🙏
@@AntonAdelson it definitely could’ve been prevented! Thank you, I really appreciate it!
@@TBIhope What was the mistake then? I also do quite a bit of free solo. I come from parkour background... I definitely don't want to fall!
I do understand what you went through though. *hug*
The climbing community consists of some of the most quality humans in existence. Everyone I have ever met climbing is so positive and encouraging. I highly recommend checking out your local climbing gym.
100%, have yet to have a bad experience with someone at the gym
Meanwhile online climbers are some of the most toxic backseat driving assholes on the planet. It's such a weird divide.
Just after I finished rewatching your entire catalogue 3 times.
I had finally accepted we were over.
Now all feelings are back.
How you managed to avoid doing even one Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson joke is a display of self discipline that you really only find in rock climbers.
He returns, he explains but most importantly he makes fun of everyone equally 💜
As a rock climber of 5 years... you nailed it. Wish you would have picked on the speed climbers a bit more though. The synergy of the yoga pants with a climbing harness is real.
So many animators are coming back. Tabbes, Sam O’Nella, Domics, now Casually Explained too? This is awesome! 🎉
Just started climbing about 5 months ago. Happy to know casually explained is also practicing this beautiful sport.
As someone who has been going climbing / bouldering 3 times a week for the past few years, I can confirm that this video is spot-on.
That shot of Alex casually eating that pepper is such an amazing meme worthy still from Magnus's video. You love to see it being causally thrown around in videos.
Man decided to get into the most dangerous sport in the world, to avoid the danger of mild social anxiety.
Truly, an introvert legend.
Not even close to being the most dangerous sport in the world.
uhhhhh dunno where you’re getting your info but it isn’t even on the charts for most dangerous sport.
it is only dangerous if you’re purposefully stupid or free solo’ing. Other than that you’re just looking at normal sports injuries of any at all.
@@inDefEE I think the comment is talking about Alex Honnald, not casually explained so it is free soloing to avoid social anxiety
@@inDefEE he’s talking about free soloing
Even free soloing is not in here dangerous.
It’s risky.
You can control and mitigate most of those risks (know the grade, check the weather forecast, wear a helmet if there maybe falling rocks etc…)
Truly dangerous activities are where there are risks over which you have little or no control.
Cycling is much more dangerous than rock climbing.
So many times I wanted to smack the like button, but realized that I already had!
Great video! As a bouldering guy living in PNW, you absolutely killed me with the spot-on stereotyping 💀
Casually explained is like the dad that goes out to buy milk when you were little but changed his mind halfway through and came back a year later.
The fact that all the non rock climber RUclipsrs I follow are all talking about climbing now speaks volumes about how much the sport has grown
Can you give exemples? Im really interested lmao anytime climbing gets attention outside from climbers im so hyped
Love that jab at Whistler. Great video! As someone who grew up in a climbing community, this is really accurate.
This just killed me 😂.
Being a climber and listening to this is so true it hurts.. I’m going to cut one of my arms off so I’m not considered an aid climber…
As someone with a fear of heights, who has literally only climbed once and who was too afraid to let go of the wall to let the automatic harness lower me down, but who will tell people "I love indoor rock climbing!", I approve of this message.
Go try again. It took my friend two trips, a lot of encouragement, and finally promising I'll buy him a chicken hat to wear if he doesn't climb higher dammit to send an entire route.
Im new here, and i must say, your humour is amazing. I love how you break things down, in a way that has technical jargon, but, easy to understand. I was wanting to try out rock climbing, this is very informative.
5 months later: Did you ever give it a go?
@spk1121 Money got in the way, haha! Plus liability, thanks for checking in on me!
Any time I wanna feel young I come back and watch these videos cause they havent changed at all and that brings me joy as I slowly die from aging
When the world needed him most, he was a sarcastic a$$, and we love him for it
the “I can fix him” joke really got me. lol
