You did a heck of a job, Zach! I am terrified of heights and climbing has been slowly helping with that for me too, but I still haven't approached the top rope walls in my gym since they sit around 58ft. But seeing you face it head on is giving me a bit of encouragement to just try it!
To yourself and anyone considering trying climbing as a novice, other climbers will be MORE than happy to show you how to climb problems you can't figure out. Like that blue one you said you couldn't have done on your own without Magnus showing you? Ask someone who's climbing other problems of the same difficulty, "hey, can you help me? I want to climb this one, but don't know how." It's a workout, but it feels like running around a playground, but for adults. It's the best way to work out imo.
I have a few tips for you in case you wanna get better at climbing. 1st tip: Pull ups, pull ups, pull ups. A big part of climbing is pulling your body up with your arms (🤯). 2nd tip: Grip of steel. The best way to do this is to just get a grip trainer and use it (I’ll add a link to the one I use if anyone wants) for about 1-2 minutes on each arm. 3rd tip: Core like a giraffes neck. Often when climbing (mainly when dong an overhang problem) to carry and your legs and upper body. 4th tip: Chalk of Olympus. If your chalk is of bad quality, it’ll stick badly to your hands and be ripped off on the first hold. Bad chalk will also barely help with friction and your fingers will slip off as if you didn’t even use chalk. The chalk Magnus sells is (from what I’ve heard) extremely good and probably the best chalk out there. 5th tip: Shoes like spiders feet. At “16:44” you said that Magnus said that good shoes do nothing and it looked like his shoes definitely made a difference. Magnus said that on easier boulders it doesn’t make a difference as there is tons of amazing footing. You are right about the shoes making a difference. Having sticky/grippy shoes helps a LOT. A lot of boulders are impossible without good shoes as the holds/stepping stones aren’t very good for standing on or holding onto without grippy enough shoes. 6th tip: Tongue like flexibility. If you’re not flexible enough some problems can’t be done as you, for example need to set a foot on a hold you’re holding onto with your hand (🤯). If you can’t get your foot on the hold to use as footing so you can move on, it will be a problem. 7th tip: Technique and technicality. You’ll learn most of the technical stuff as you go. The main ones would be (imo) ankle hooking and toe hooking. These are very useful for control and balance. 8th and last tip: Calisthenics. Callisthenics is by far the best workout route for getting good at climbing as you mainly focus on your upper body and core. You should obviously still keep your legs in shape so they don’t become sticks. Last thing. While Magnus calls you a natural, I call you a disgrace. I’m only kidding, I’d say you’re an above average first timer. And as a climber myself, I hope you continue to enjoy climbing and recommend it to others so climbing as a sport can grow. Side note: Didn’t mean to make this a whole a** essay 💀
@@chibinecco1981 Also don't be scared to go because of your weight. Want a strong motivator to lose weight? If you get hooked on climbing and want to find different ways to improve, that has to be up there in the best source of motivation to get in shape.

@samwes1065 Well... yes. But you could also say "ice is ice is ice" but depending on what tray it came out of or if it's shaved or whatnot, you're going to have different preferences. I've been climbing for 3 months after many years of running. My build is similar to zach, but with bigger upper body, still 150lbs. Absolutely no way he's a beginner. I can see him using the techniques I'm still trying to master and use naturally. And he's just (almost) flashing 10c's? Nah. My fingers and forearms lasted 3 easy routes my first day, then one week of pain. I'm new enough to still know how beginners really look on the wall
I have a similar build, with a bit more upper body strength, and a lot of experience in other sports, and just started climbing as well. You might not believe it, but my first day ever I flashed a 5.10c/d (that looked a bit tougher than this) and failed on an 5.11a/b. My second time out I flashed a 5.11a/b (all top rope). I believe he's telling the truth, as I know it's not impossible.
The fact that this guy has the forearm endurance to flash a 10.c on his first day is unbelievable, by which I mean I don’t believe it’s his first time climbing
It’s been almost a year since I started climbing. Thanks to you magnus, I’ve bouldered, top roped, and lead, indoors and out. I hope I can continue to share the love of climbing like you!

Master or not finger and forearm strength will be their limit. I remember my first session my arms felt shot after 3 Boulders which makes this video so much more impressive how great his endurance already is.
Hey Magnus, I wanted to thank you for all of your videos. Ive struggled with chronic pain for the past decade. And it took me years to start moving again. But I build it up slowly with walking 20 mins everyday untill I could do more. And also 5 push ups everyother day and build that up overtime. 3 months ago I finally felt strong enough to start climbing myself! I also don’t believe it. He claims in the beginning he’s never been in a climbing gym, then a minute or two later, says he bouldered once in college. Nicely done. Looks like he's climbed before. exactly. no way dude is a beginner. even the way he asks Mangus if he's ready to "top-rope" - as a newbie you aren't differentiating bouldering and top-roping unless you've been in that world. kinda corny for Zach to mis-represent.

Thanks to this channel I started bouldering 4 months ago, and have been in love with it ever since. I have never felt stronger in my life. It truly is an amazing sport. Recently topped my first 6b+ and currently working on a 6c+ project which I almost completed. Probably get it next session.
The whole time I was wondering if Magnus was getting reverse pranked, and at the end there Zach was so impressive Magnus was legitimately unsure if Zach had climbed before.
Magnus brings in Olympic gymnasts, and this humble guy who does video editing tricks is doing better than any of them. I hope he keeps climbing after making this video.
Being a climber and also a beginner vfx artist, seeing my two fav youtubers doing this surprise collab just blows my mind!!! Loved the short basic vfx trick at the start, and also Zach should defo keep on climbing from now on!!!!
I used to be obsessed with Zach's videos, and recently I've wanted to get into climbing. So when I saw his name I was like huh, that's cool. This is a great video for me too, he asks so many great questions that answer a lot of mine. A great watch for someone like me.
I've been watching Magnus for a couple months and today I just went to the climbing gym for the first time in my life. I feel like I was WAY better at it because of watching these videos. It was really fun
Congratulations on your duet with ZachKing, which is simply incredible. Me and my friends have been following you for three years now, and you've inspired us all! We started climbing thanks to you, we've just created a channel thanks to you. Thanks for the videos and thanks for everything. You really are too good!!!
I've seen people in my days as an athlete that were doing well the first time but as they go through it repeatedly, they become somewhat natural in every movement and technique. Some people are just built different and they adapt very quickly. It's like their body is built for everything and can do anything with a little practice. If they put their mind to it, they suddenly become great at it.
There's no way he hasn't climbed before... just in college once doesn't count. He was gripping advanced holds with ease, like he clearly knew how to hold them ahead of time.
I did my first day of climbing today (motivated by your videos) and couldn't even get past a V2. 😂 10/10 would try again! Keep up the awesome climbing content!
i love zach and you!!! im so happy yall are collabing 😁😁😁😁 p.s. youre a bad influence 😂 my climbing mate hates warming up. i wonder where he got that from 😂
Magnus, I love your climbing videos. They are my favorite. I see the trend on your channel right now: non climbing videos getting more views, but I would love it if you still continued to make climbing videos, even if they’re less frequent (I still enjoy your others too). Thanks brother! Stay safe 🙏
Been binging your vids for a minute Magnus, tremendous stuff. Your dedication is inspiring & jumps right off the screen. Highly motivational. "No time like the present" is what I'm getting from your vids. Another great one, I think it's going to be a banger.
I've just started bouldering. I'm day 2. Seeing Zach do the climb at 15:05 was inspirational. I wouldn't have even thought to do something like that yesterday. Maybe I'll give some harder grades a go today.
I have been watching your videos for years even though I didn't boulder back then. You have inspired me and I finally started climbing a couple months ago and I'm really addicted to it now. Keep up the good work!
I don't know why but these videos have such a weird calmness. I feel relaxed watching this + Magnus is a really humble and down to earth guy teaching another really cool guy how to climb :D
I love watching these videos where Magnus brings someone new into climbing. They're really motivational. I am a little blown away at how soft these grades are though. That 10c looked like an 8 at my local gym, and the fact that he did it on his flash attempt of his first day of climbing in rental shoes solidifies that. I've been climbing for years and a 10c flash is certainly not guaranteed.
yep, definitely 7 or 8 at my gym. 5.10c as I know it is definitely not for beginners. Crimpy, slopery, balancy, back flags, tiny feet, technical moves, tiny holds all the way up sometimes with counter intuitive beta, etc.
Ha it's kind of like Magnus is starting a "Hot Ones" style interview series where he meets random other youtubers and interviews them while teaching them to climb. I'm here for it!
Love how Magnus spotted some talent and turned on real coaching mode Zach did say he bouldered once in college but it looks like it was a lot more than once based on how he was moving on the wall. Onsighting a 5.10c with that much speed and flow is basically impossible without at least half a dozen sessions under your belt
I really do think that because of saying Zach is a natural he became that more. If you wouldn’t have told him that it maybe wouldn’t have happened. Try this with someone who isn’t just unsure and I think it would work as well
Magnus, your passion and love for climbing is infectious! Thx for teaching me, an absolute honor!

Recap by Tammy AI
Thanks to this channel I started bouldering 4 months ago, and have been in love with it ever since. I have never felt stronger in my life. It truly is an amazing sport. Recently topped my first 6b+ and currently working on a 6c+ project which I almost completed. Probably get it next session.
The whole time I was wondering if Magnus was getting reverse pranked, and at the end there Zach was so impressive Magnus was legitimately unsure if Zach had climbed before.
Zach scared of height is a classic example of not begin scared of begin high up but sacred of falling down from high up
Magnus brings in Olympic gymnasts, and this humble guy who does video editing tricks is doing better than any of them.
I hope he keeps climbing after making this video.
Stronghold ❤ Great to see you both there!
As a mediocre climber that has been climbing for couple of years seeing his first session is like me in months, what a natural!, soo awesome!
Glad to see Magnus helping smaller creators in collabs
Pretty funny how Zack was surprised that everyone going up to Magnus instead of him for once lol.
More climbing videos is an auto watch. Thank you Magnus!
This felt like one of your videos where you dress up and pretend you’ve never climbed before, but in reverse
Smurfer got smurfed?
I would have never expected this kind of colab.. Very epic vid!
Not only are you a master of climbing, but also grace. Truly a paragon.
Love the vids Magnus! Thanks for everything!
You already know this one is gonna be a banger! Great collab too, super fun to watch throughout the whole video!
Love Zach helping Magnus with the YT retention tricks, calling out the crazy video at the end.
I really miss videos with just you and Mary’s at the gym in Norway
He’s not lying about that chalk
I love how he can say it is the stickiest, he knows thanks to climbing stuff
I've been watching Magnus for a couple months and today I just went to the climbing gym for the first time in my life. I feel like I was WAY better at it because of watching these videos. It was really fun
The view from setting the camera at the top of the wall was AMAZING. You guys should totally do it again!!!😃
I have never seen a beginner climb that well. I've been climbing for a year and I wouldn't stand a chance against Zach. loved this collab!
There's no way he hasn't climbed before... just in college once doesn't count. He was gripping advanced holds with ease, like he clearly knew how to hold them ahead of time.
MAGNUS YOUR BACK IVE WATCHED AROUND 20 OF YOUR OLD VIDEOS WHILE YOU WHERE GONE. GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK KEEP UP THE WORK❤
I did my first day of climbing today (motivated by your videos) and couldn't even get past a V2. 😂 10/10 would try again! Keep up the awesome climbing content!
The collab we never expected
i love zach and you!!! im so happy yall are collabing 😁😁😁😁
p.s. youre a bad influence 😂 my climbing mate hates warming up. i wonder where he got that from 😂
I love your philosophy of success at 10:25… what you focus on you connect with.
I'm a member at this gym and just now discovered this video lol. Stronghold is an incredible gym!
This was awesome! Can't believe Zach has never climbed before?!
I appreciate every single Magnus collab, his videos are great, and how he mixes his content up by introducing non climbers to the sport.
Zack King, never heard of him..but I know who Magnus is. THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!
Babe wake up, there's Magnus content
You're great person for the sport of rock climbing. Because you take other celebrities and lead other audiences to the sport
What kind of editing magic is this? He's so good!
Zach seems so honest, I love that.
I don't know why but these videos have such a weird calmness. I feel relaxed watching this + Magnus is a really humble and down to earth guy teaching another really cool guy how to climb :D
This was such a cool collab! Zach is an absolute natural and you're a great first climbing partner.
I love watching these videos where Magnus brings someone new into climbing. They're really motivational. I am a little blown away at how soft these grades are though. That 10c looked like an 8 at my local gym, and the fact that he did it on his flash attempt of his first day of climbing in rental shoes solidifies that. I've been climbing for years and a 10c flash is certainly not guaranteed.
eh id say it looks like a 9 at mine but tbf I was able to do a 9 on my first time climbing.
yep, definitely 7 or 8 at my gym. 5.10c as I know it is definitely not for beginners. Crimpy, slopery, balancy, back flags, tiny feet, technical moves, tiny holds all the way up sometimes with counter intuitive beta, etc.
What if this whole video was just a magic trick? 2 legends of RUclips meet at a climbing gym = BEST CONTENT
Så snilt av deg å ta med litt mindre kjente youtubere på kanalen Magnus.😂 Elsker videoene dine og spesielt disse, forsett å gjør oss nordmenn stolte❤
It's just amazing how prepared for this Zach wasn't and even so he rocked that wall
kewl! I watched coz of the title plus new content from Magnus but didn't look at the thumbnail so totally didn't expect the beginner to be Zack!
Plot twist: Zach actually hired an experienced climber to take his place that day, and disguised him in makeup to look like himself.
I've been climbing for two years now, and with my wife we opened our own small climbing gym and I think partly we should blame Magnus for this 😁
You are both so amazing. Magnus, you inspired me to start climbing. So now, for the first time in my life, I'm training and smiling.
This video was great! So good to see Magnus climbing and crushing it again. and Zack is such a natural its crazy!
This was actually great :D ! loved the energy between you two
Ha it's kind of like Magnus is starting a "Hot Ones" style interview series where he meets random other youtubers and interviews them while teaching them to climb. I'm here for it!
I ordered the Magdust 6-pack. I was hesitant because Norway is not in the EU, but Rungne does the tax and import for you.
i've been waiting for a video for soo long, i was worried. Glad you are fine:)
God damn dude. Zack moves like he knows what he's doing
I got some magdust recently. I didn't expect to notice much of a difference, it's almost as big of a difference as no chalk to chalk. Very worth it
Zach saying how bouldering is like a fun version of working out is so me. I hate going to a regular gym but love climbing
Magnus is back!!
Taking a famous person climbing is a pretty good format for an interview show
Love how Magnus spotted some talent and turned on real coaching mode
Zach did say he bouldered once in college but it looks like it was a lot more than once based on how he was moving on the wall. Onsighting a 5.10c with that much speed and flow is basically impossible without at least half a dozen sessions under your belt
I really do think that because of saying Zach is a natural he became that more. If you wouldn’t have told him that it maybe wouldn’t have happened. Try this with someone who isn’t just unsure and I think it would work as well
10:00 This is how we all feel when he says stuff like this lol
Great video magnus, I loved it like always keep up the good work❤
I've been climbing for several years now. This guy if he continues to climb could be a very good climber
Zach is such a natural! And Magnus is the best coach, great video thanks ❤
More climbing please Magnus!! I love watching you solve problems, please don’t edit out your climbs (or parts of your climbs)
At one point I was expecting Zach to take off his shirt and start climbing black routes
