Pete is so comfortable with being uncomfortable that he doesn't realize how painful crack climbing is for normal human beings 😅 also it's mind blowing how well rounded he is, might not be the absolute best at anything but definitely up there in almost every style.
Pete is a freak, love to see his versatility get recognition. I was just talking about this the other day: who is the best climber in terms of hard sends in a variety of styles (slap, vert, steep, crack)? I can't think of anyone who has sent 5.14+ (9a) in each style. Tommy Caldwell, Carlo Traversi, and obviously Adam Ondra come to mind.
@@CJski Dave McLeod probably is really up there as a very strong jack of trades, 8C boulder, 9A sport, E 11 trad, freaking 8C free solo (what the hell), if i remember he repeated the some of the hardest Ice Climbing as well, the dude can climbing in a super fitness style overhang as well as being really really techy, and he still slap like 8b+ boulders at age 44. He's as well rounded as it gets
@@CJski That's right ! Though trad climbing and crack climbing are really intertwined, and trad route often have some crack moves here and there so i can easily imagine him being good at it as well haha
Watching Matilda climb her boulder, I didn't internalize how huge those moves are until I saw Emil have to literally jump and cut loose on like 4 moves in a row. Her crimp lockoff strength is unreal. And Pete is truly such a well-rounded climber. But Emil's boulder style is my favorite >:)
THATS where I know you from, reel rock! You looked so familiar all the time but I just didn't get it 😂 now I'm not surprised, the level of your boulder here is a similar kind of crazy 😂 amazing to watch, I'd love another collab!
Anyone who can honestly describe their favorite style of climbing as “squirming” is terrifying. Pete is an absolute beast. That said, Matilda’s boulder looked the hardest for my own style. Microscopic holds with garbage feet; I can hear my pulleys popping just watching it!
She referred to it as "minimalist" which is a huge understatement. I don't think you go any more spartan without just climbing the bolt holes and plywood edges. Watching her practically scramble it, I kept expecting a fall and a few changes right up until she topped.
I'm not very strong, and I especially don't have a lot of upper body strength, so I already struggle with overhang. I rely a lot on my dance training, on being able to balance almost indefinitely as long as I have a stable toe on the hold, so I think I'd be more able to try a boulder like Pete's than like the other 2 (although all of these are massively above my level, I just do this for fun)
It’s insane how easy each climber makes their signature climb look. It reminds me of the concept of having a random perfectly average person competing in the Olympics just for comparison. Mad respect for setting and trying such difficult boulders!
It’s amazing to see what a well rounded climber Pete is. He’s not only one of the best crack and trad climbers in the world, he also shines on climbs like Matilda’s and Emils which aren’t usually his style. Stunning to see such a talented athlete
I think Pete's boulder had multiple positions and moves that the other two likely never experienced before. His style is so different from typical bouldering. It's like his route was in a completely foreign language.
Fab video for several reasons. 1) shows the amazing variety that exists in climbing; 2) shows how what's easy for some can be impossible for others (watching Emil fall off Mathilda's flash and vice-versa was great) and 3) how specialized most elite climbers become (except Pete, who is elite at everything apparently). I wish the IFSC would set more like this and reduce the endless parkour that competition climbing has become.
Pete has this unhealthy trait of just doing something when he puts his mind to it. Pain can't stop him. You really see it by how nackered he is after that yellow boulder. He gives it everything like its a free solo attenpt. Amazing to see, also how he can do that time after time without any serious injuries.
The slight difference is that Pete is the best crack climber the world has yet seen. He's not just a brilliant crack climber, he's an entirely different level to anyone else.
I love to see how different styles can be in climbing. Each of them would have probably given their boulder the same grade but trying a different style feels just so much harder. There is endless variety in climbing and that makes me excited!

But seeing Pete and Matilda struggle immensely on your problem (who are super strong and great climbers in their own right) brings me back to my normal V7 reality. 😂 Same when everyone else tried each other's problem. Everyone made theirs look so easy till the others tried it.
Great to watch all the different styles based on one another's specialties. Pete's half-crimp hangboard training has been coming in clutch!!! Cool to see the donut move for the first time...imagine that move in a Comp boulder
Fantastic video. Such an interesting master class of differing strengths and how comfortable each climber on their own. Pete ... wow what a balanced climber, and seeing how hard he tries.. more please ... inspirational especially so being how supportive everyone is. What I love about climbing

I feel like i naturally gravitate towards matilda’s style. I really like the way that that kind of climbing feels. Precise, fine tuned, controlled. It fits my perfectionistic side. But i also have learned to enjoy the full commitment style that you set Emil. Its so fun to have to pull hard, squeeze hard, commit, and just power through beyond what you think you can do. You really feel strong when you climb like that. Its very physical. Then Pete. I dont know what exactly to think about his. It is very traditional. Climbing the natural weaknesses in rock does often require visionary creativity and adaptiveness. The donut jam looked so cool. And ive definately encountered it in my trad climbing. The rest of the moves were just as obscure and unique. I think that its all climbing, its all beautiful, and it was amazing to see all of you succeed in your strengths and really show off, but also struggle and fight to adapt to a style that is less familiar. Just rewatching this as I've started bouldering myself, only to realize you filmed this in my local climbing gym! What a small world :D
Damn, I thought Pete would do the worst on his non-preferred styles, but he is actually quite well rounded! If anything, Emil and Matilda need to step up their game on their non-preferred styles. Very unexpected result!
Totally agree, Pete is actually really strong at all disciplines I've seen him at. Bare in mind that we'd been going pretty hard for around 5 days in a row with filming and climbing, so for him to just crush like that really surprised me! Insane fitness
Pete: 'Nice you just came up with a new move! What you gonna name it??'
Emil: 'HUMAN CENTIPETE!'
It's so interesting how effortless each of you is in your style, but then struggle with each other's.
3 beautiful people, 3 beautiful climbing styles! Very nice.
To set a route you can flash, but is tough for you to flash, is amazingly precise in and of itself!
"Human centipede" lol i love it. Love pete. You guys are cool too. Love this video so much.
Loved seeing you lose your mind going into (and during) the crack segment 😂
congrats on 100k man very deserved :)
I LOVE this video and the idea behind it. Want to see more of these!!! I'd love to see the grades for each of these (just to get a more objective sense of the difficulty level).
Every coach: dont put your feet too high if it isn't necessary!
Pete: imma ignore that
