We should remember Adi Shankaracharya at least once a day. Because of him,we Indians are following Sanatana Dharma. Remembering him is great tribute to JAGADGURU who protected Sanatana Dharma 🚩.

Yes. He was the first person who united the Northern, Eastern and Western India with Southern India. You might not be knowing this Rakesh ji but among the other Shankaracharyas the one who came closest to Jagadguru in terms of being omniscient and intellect was a saint called Chandrasekara Swamy (Shankarachrya) from Kanchipuram (In Tamilnadu) he attained samadhi in 1992 at the age of 100.

    The story behind this song:
There is a story attached to the composition of this Hymn. It is said that Shri Adi Shankaracharya, accompanied by his disciples, was walking along a street in Varanasi, India one day when he came across an aged scholar reciting the rules of Sanskrit grammar repeatedly on the street. Taking pity on him, Adi Shankara went up to the scholar and advised him not to waste his time on grammar at his age but to turn his mind to God in worship and adoration, which would only save him from this vicious cycle of life and death. The hymn "Bhaja Govindam" is said to have been composed on this occasion

Hinduism is not strictly a sectarian kind of a religion. It is a synthesis of a variety of philosophies and practices with the supreme aim of achieving spiritual bliss. It is unfortunate that people of India who have not embraced other forms of religious faith and residing east of the River Sind , practicing various forms of religious and philosophical beliefs to be designated as HINDUS . It is not one concrete or absolute faith inscribed by a Messiah or a religious preacher. Hinduism is a consecution of ideas and combination of variety of cultural beliefs and faiths. It has such wide spectrum of thoughts and historical and mythological facts corroborated into it. There are pantheon of deities and gods worshipped in different modes throughout the different religious sites in the "Hindu temples"... The most important is the seeking of divine solace and spiritual bliss through the path of absolute merging of the mind with the infinite. The rest are just customs and beliefs for temporary gratification.

It more like most them feel hindi is a lesser language compared to the major southern languages which are much older and authentic(especially tamil) compared to more recently formed hindi. On other hand most south indians have a kind of,.. what do you say.. a spiritual respect kind of feel towards sanskrit which inturn is the most sacred of languages.

@Yogesh Desai great! how about this one:
' Children first know the name of objects; that is their first step towards
learning a language; their inner thoughts and language gradually develop
through the grace of the Goddess of Learning.
As they cleanse powdered grain with a sieve, so have the wise purified lan-
guage by their intellect. That refined tongue gives them many benefits. In the
      composition lies fortune.
The wise find their way to language by means of sacrifice; thus they got the
language which the seers had in their minds. Having got that, they spread it
everywhere. The seven meters utter prayers in that language.
Some see the words, but fail to understand their meanings! As a loving wife
dressed in her gayest, reveals her person to her own lord, so does the
Goddess of Language reveal herself to the chosen few.
Those who had eyes and ears ie. wisdom, attained extraordinary power in
expressing their ideas!' (Rig Veda X.)
i read this one in a book, it would be so great to hear her version with original words, but no way to find the sanskrit lyrics text spelled out with latin letters! :( its about the mistress of the More Eloquent Logos, a thought related in the western philosophy only around the first century, by Philo of Alexandria/Iudea... ive been lookin for one, could you please help?
      thanks in advance !

Even Adi Shankaracharya is saying chant the name of Govinda with love. Srila Prabhupada said chant Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare. Tulsidasji said chant the name of Shri Ram. Narada Muni told Valmiki to chant the name of Shri Ram. Every saint is telling us to chant the name of Shri Hari. It is said "harer naam hare naam harer namaiva kevalam, kalau nasty eva nasty nasty eva gatir anyatha." Which means in Kaliyuga apart from chanting Harinaam nothing else can save you. So please chant the Mahamantra of this age Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare. 🙏

Shankaracharya is a central core thinker of Hindus today. It’s ironic that the university in his name at Kaladi his birthsite serves beef on their menu!!! That is what the communist government of Kerala and its Christian cronies thought would be the apt thing to do in this place.
It’s like saying we’ll put pork on the menu for our foreign workers in Mecca.
I really apologise to have to put comments like this on your fantastic site. Please just ignore our outbursts and continue you fantastic work!!! We all love it and we all love you. I think the Hindus have lots of axes to grind and maybe we feel safe enough to do it here on your site. Please excuse us.
I’ve been listening to Bhagavad Govindam I guess all my life really. And even used to sing parts of it. Can you when you have time take a glance at dakshinamurty stotram please. This is as you know another quite an amazing and transformative short text. And there is also the Gajendra Moksha hymn.
The reason I give these is firstly because of their richness and the contexts are very visual.
Secondly because the second hymn is in the context of salvation, a cry for help from the divine. Because usually Hindu philosophy is much more geared towards awakening and arising than asking for help. But sometimes help is indeed what we need.
I think you have sung chanted at just the correct tune and rhythm to maintain the accuracy of the Sanskrit pronunciation. Years ago I knew this old Sanskrit pandit who spoke sanskrit fluently. His criticism was that pronunciation became inaccurate in order to keep the tune and rhythm. MS Subbalakshmi had got it to perfection. But then generally her songs would have been composed in Sanskrit and set to music by the composer. You might have heard of Muthuswami Dikshitar whose work is all in Sanskrit.

In Kerala many Hindus eat beef. In ancient times too beef was eaten. Don't get hung up on food. Try to be a devotee, detached and get over this samsara - that is the gist of this song. The song does not talk about what language you speak, what you eat, what you wear etc.

@@lordprosperity7550 ancient India nobody ate beef and all. Cows are considered sacred. Hindus in kerela? They are Hindu by birth but they not follow religion like Christians and muslims. If they follow their Hindu religion in orthodox then they won't take beef.

No words to explain the feeling when I was listening to this song!!! However, during the Sloka #10 at timeline 2:47, I think the translation is bit misleading. I believe Adi Sankaracharya was using the analogies of the youth, water and wealth. I think he was questioning "Where is the lust and its play when Youth is gone? Where is the lake when Water is gone? Where are the relatives when Wealth is reduced? And he ended the Sloka with the question that , Where is the snare of Samsaara when the Truth is realized? " Please correct me if am thinking in different lines.

Mam you are 100 percent right that is true translation of bhajha govindam at the same time
Sankara repeatedly stressed when your days on this earth are numbered your knowledge of vedas grammar upanishads don't help but only your devotion to govinda the god creator shall help you cross the ocean of samsara thus the gist of this bhajan by shankara stresses on bhakthi yoga superior to all other yoga's mam
