And the Oscar for best picture goes to....."Shakespeare in Love!!!" REALLY??? REALLY???
A classic
Harvey Weinstein was at the height of his industry power and had a stranglehold on the Academy back then. Shakespeare in Love was his film that year. Do the math. 😬
Quite frankly, all it was is that they lobbied better. Whoever sucks up and pays the most wins. It has nothing to do with hiw good the movie was.
Right up there with Jethro Tull winning the Grammy for best metal album against Metallica's Black album.
@@MegaAlan54321 when Metallica lost to Jethro Tull at the Grammys, the album they released at the time was …And Justice For All. The black album didn’t come out until two years later.
I'm not even an american, but sure the last quote "earn this, earn it" was so cleared....respect and salute for all our veterans and fallen heroes...
For me, the most emotional part was when he spoke to his wife.
"Tell me I've lived a good life: tell me I'm a good man."
Same. That part gets me every time..
The symbolism is we have all lived the lives we have because of the sacrifices by all those soldiers and should be reminded often
Thank you! Glad to be part of the video
You are very welcome.
How many people are broken up over Tom Hanks death miss the impact of "tell me I lead a good life, tell me I'm a good man" That moment will tear through any combat veteran just thinking about it.
So many memorable death scenes in this one. The one with the medic still gets me too. It hurts your soul as he is slowly saying he wants to go home and keeps saying momma as he does.
Reactions to that scene have been posted to ruclips.net/video/EcGpNCLi5aQ/видео.html by request.
I saw this movie in a high school history class, everybody in my class gasped when it was revealed that Ryan was the one who survived and not Miller.
Our boys laid it on the line. In the end we all need to earn this
when he Miller says "earn it", he's saying it to all of us. we always need to remember how much our way of life has cost
🇧🇷
Seeing the emotional responses, of people watching this reminded me that before the movie was released, they had a private screening for a bunch of WW2 veterans, some of them had to leave the theater because of flashbacks, they were the witnesses to what happened and we should never forget them
the SADDEST words to hear is a wounded man say
IT DOESN'T HURT ANYMORE.
those who are willing to give up an ounce of freedom for perceived safety , deserves neither.
“Are they just gonna show Tom Hanks dying?!”
You youngsters might not understand, but that was how my generation felt. Not only did we fall for the trick thinking Miller was safe because we’d seen him as an old man, but he was played by TOM HANKS. Hanks was the caliber of actor that just carried plot armor with the name. We were floored.
I’m sure I quite follow you, but if you are saying that the older Private Ryan was played by Tom Hanks, that’s not true. He was played by Harrison Young.
@@SciTrekMan Tom Hanks played Captain Miller. The old man is Private Ryan. Which is the whole point of my post.
The message "Earn this" goes out to ALL OF US, in war, in life, in everything we do. Fight against injustice, unwarranted aggression, bullying, anything wrong; the sacrifices we can make in our lives come nowhere close to equaling what soldiers, sailors and pilots had to endure and experience to win a war, but we can overcome stupid, regressive, greedy rulers by maintaining TRUE honorable and patriotic values for our selves, our neighbors, our Nation.
There were millions of young men who made the exact same sacrifice for all of us.
Never forget.
they had the p 51, today we have the a10 warthog. named bc they thought it was that ugly. but ask ANYONE on the ground, just how BEAUTIFUL she is when she's the angel on your shoulder. she has 1 purpose, protect with a furious vengeance our men on the ground.
to the pilots who drive them, THANK YOU , with every ounce of gratitude for being there.
*BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*
Greater love hath no one, that a man lay down his life for a friend...
I saw this movie on its debut in a theater and there was some buzz at the start, not people talking outloud, but the usual rustling of people eating and whispering, the moment the door opened it was complete silence for the remainder of the movie.
Except some of 'em gagging or crying... I nearly threw up several times during the landing scenes... 😮
I've seen most of these reactions independently, but it was interesting seeing them back to back. You can see who's really emotionally invested in the story, who's just watching a movie, and who thinks they're the center of attention.
"Tell me I'm a good man...tell me I've lived a good life..."
Best line in the whole movie. Gets me every time
I shipped out to Army Basic Training a few months after this movie was released in theaters in 1998. Whenever he had down time during training, (which happened a couple of times), the Drill Sergeants would march us into the Post Theater and we would watch SPR. One of the senior ones was a Vietnam combat veteran and was a short time away from retirement, and he told us that the violence and intensity of the movie come close to real combat, but real combat is much worse. I did not experience combat situations myself during my military career, but I imagine that he was right.
I wish our *Olympic* athlete teams would watch *Saving Private Ryan* on their flight to the *Olympics*

Thank you for featuring me yet again! keep these coming
You are very welcome.
Never cried as much since I watched Grave of the Fireflies.
It's interesting the different emotional reactions between the women and the men and from different countries. This movie was and still is the best and most powerful movie ever made depicting WWII.
Couldn’t have said it better. War is brutal (especially WW2) and it doesn’t shy away from that.
During Ryan’s initial walk into the Normandy cemetery, you can see he has a 101st Airborne miniature patch pin on the left breast of his jacket (or other side for reactors who have their videos flipped). Most won’t pick that up but veterans I’ve seen it with seem to focus on it right away. I wore that Screaming Eagle uniform patch for a year early in my Army career. That sighting took some of the mystery out of it for us, as we knew it wasn’t Tom Hanks since he was in the 2nd Ranger Battalion (also one of my old units, along with the 1st Bn).
What a clever giveaway for the veterans!
"About time your asses get in here. Damn Man, we've been needing air support the whole damn movie"😂😂😂😂
I watched this movie back in 1999 as a 14 year old, on a VHS without even having the remotest idea of what I was going to see.
I can't put words to the emotions I felt watching this movie back then. This was the first war movie i ever saw which had so much blood guts and carnage.
I had nightmares for days and was numb remembering the scene where the German soldier stabs through the heart of an American soldier in the end.
Basically I was too young to watch this movie back then.
War is hell
I really need to stop chopping onions when I watch this movie.
Anybody else find it odd how many people assumed the man at the beginning was Capt. Miller?
The “old man” at the beginning of the film wore a pin with the Screaming Eagle of the 101st Airborne Division. Private Ryan was a member of the 101st. Captain Miller was a Ranger. No surprise for me.
@@RicktheCrofter to people _not_ clued up on US military unit insignia, it probably did surprise them.
Yes! I always find this odd. Mainly because the actor who played the old Private Ryan was such a dead ringer for Matt Damon that for years I thought it WAS Matt Damon in aging special effects makeup. I was so surprised to find out it was a separate actor. Perfect casting by Spielberg.
@Hiwegara Groove I never thought it was Capt Miller but I can understand why many did.
That is why they are called the greatest generation!! Don't forget it. Hope one day we have a generation this great. USA
instead... ya'll got #kidsincages
@@keetahbrough when the bravest of men died, it left cowards like you in charge. People like you screwed up the world.
This movie proves the Academy has no clothes.
We walked thru the Normandy grave sites and on the beaches. To go there is worth the time if you vacation in France. To look upon and reflect what these men sacrificed for our generation.
Spielberg is an ffffffing genius and the actors are amazing.
This was 40 times harder to watch than any one of these reactions.

Saving Private Ryan is the title. How can they think the ending is about Capt. Miller?
It makes sense, he's the main character throughout most of the movie so you think he's going to live to the end
Of course the man at the end was Ryan, remember the name of the film. A classic.
Who? I need constant action and bright colors
Thanks. Now I have a bunch of reactors to binge watch.

Next, the last scene of Schindler’s List.

Remember that “Shakespeare in Love” was produced by Harvey Weinstein…Whereas Spielberg did this
The greatest war movie ever made
Capt. Miller shot through the chest with a .30 caliber round…..”Oh? Is he dying?” in a surprised voice….yeah a round that big through your lungs will do that.
"30 caliber" 🤣 🤣
He was shot by a K98 that uses an 8mm round.

Greatness
Apart from everybody cried at the end i felt disappointed. because all Reactors Cursing on Upham for what he didnt do after they accept him when they have not being in a war zone. Its the Platoons fault for not knowing that he is not Combat Soilder and not Watching him to gave the Ammunition. They all cared about Tom Hanks and not wanting him to die. also they all think is a Marvel or DC Movie taking it so seriously.
Earn this life that was given
yes, guilt and loyalty are powerful energetic ties to the overlords of war and death.
@@keetahbrough you're saying Captain Miller is the overlord of war and death. In real life an overlord of war and death wouldn't give a fuck, just like yourself.
You can tell who didn't serve in the military by their reaction.
The price of freedom
P51 "Tankbusters". Without AT cannons. Pity.
Nevertheless an awesome movie.
One major mistake Spielberg made that I noticed from watching these reactions, the confusion caused by the German Opham let go and the one that walked past him on the stairs looked too similar.
Am I not following? The German Upham let go, and the one on the stairs, were one and the same. Is that what you're referring to?
Another mistake I think Spielberg made, was to have Ryan all bunched up at the knees and crying when the fighting got too rough. When they first found him, he refused to go home so he could stay with his "brothers" and fight. That showed bravery and courage. Then, when he's in the thick of it, he folds like a turtle and cries. Doesn't make sense to have his character of Ryan behave like that. Just my opinion, though. Great movie and I'm forever grateful to all those men who gave the ultimate and for all those that came home. 🙏
I thought the very same thing, as much as I love this movie.
@@TheRapnep
The German soldier Upham let go and the one who passed him on the stairs were one and the same.
If I'm remembering correctly, that is.

I like watching all these young feminists observing the patriarchal men exercising their white privilege for them.
facts bruh
these were the most boring reactions to the ending of this great movie, I seen this in the movie theatre when it first came out and the whole theater erupted in applause it was an incredible experience that very few movies give, I still get chills thinking about it
They want ad revenue
You're right, the Academy Awards were/rigged for years. The Shakespeare people should return the Oscar out of shame and give it to the rightful winner. A special category should have been created for "Best performance without saying any lines" and recipient should have been the actress who played the mother in this film. Most moviegoers were so focused on her, they never noticed the picture of the four brothers together along with a small American flag just to the left of the open door. Also, the four blue stars on the banner in the window of the farm house signified there were four members of that household currently serving in the armed forces. The color would change to a gold star (actually yellow) to show a member of a household had been killed in action while serving on active duty.

HEY! You don't shoot Tom Hanks! Pretty sure thats universal law er something. I mean come on. its Tom Hanks.
And of course Captain Miller's message is for all of us. "Earn this."
Tom Hanks died in at least one movie previous to this. His character in Philadelphia died of AIDS.
YOU DON'T SHOOT TOM HANKS? Your the product of this government I bet you can name all of the Kardashians but not all 3 of Americas enemies at that time (which would probably have been your friends)
Did not one of you notice the 101st Airborne pin on the left side of his jacket? Please tell me you're not normally that observant.

Se qu’il se passe dans ce film, c’est se qui arrive en ce moment même en Ukraine 🤔
Translation: What's happening in this movie is what's happening right now in Ukraine.
You watch a movie like this, and it really irks me that people (with the right to do so) want to remain seated or kneel during the playing of our national anthem, worse yet burn the flag when so many have sacrificed themselves for the sake of others defending what it represents. Not only those who've died, but those who remain with only the memories of the lost.
Pick another way to protest, leave the flag alone, if not for you do it for them.
Can't change selfish people.
It was never about the flag or the anthem because y'all lost your shyt when Eminem kneeled after his performance during halftime at the Superbowl. Kneeling is respectful unlike assaulting Capitol cops with "Back the blue flags".
Y'all disrespect the American flag each time you wear on bikinis, hats or T-shirts. The irony of a bunch of yahoos preaching about respecting the American flag while you proudly toting your confederate flags. STFU and GTFOH!
How could trump dispairidge these men!
SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP TO OPEN THE LANDING RAMPS OF THOSE BOATS RIGHT IN FRONT OF A MACHINE GUN NEST. Should have had at least a shoulder fired grenade launcher over the top before-hand. Too much of that kind of thing happened in WW2, throwing men at machines guns and they just got sacrificed. The Pacific Islands saw sometimes 70% of our men get mowed down by the Japanese as they hit the beaches. These days we send in planes and helicopters first and take out the enemy as much as possible before sending men in to dangerous areas. Seems like in the wars up through Vietnam the top brass just didn't give a shit about the grunt soldiers. Extremely tragic, and utterly despicable by top brass.
Wtf?

The Air Corps and the Navy were both pounding those beaches for hours before the landing craft arrived. What do you think that rifle fired grenades and bazookas would’ve done that 16 inch shells couldn’t? That is even in the grenades in bazookas had the range to even get to the machine gun nests?
@@gawainethefirst Steven Spielberg has a reputation to maintain, so he never would have shown a fully functioning machine gun nest which had never been bombed if in fact the air corps and navy had been "pounding that machine gun nest before the landing boats arrived" as you said.
