    I joined the Army in 2003 as a Combat Medic.
    My recruiter told me “you remember the medic in Saving Private Ryan? Your job will be like that! Running around the battlefield saving lives!”
    Then I remembered _this_ scene.
    I told my recruiter “Yeah, that doesn’t really sell it to me!”

    These scenes where these soldiers cry for their mother shows just how powerful that connection is. My father fought in Korea and a friend of his didn't grow up with a mother as she died in childbirth. When he got wounded badly and thought he was going to die, he called for his mother too. He survived, but when he felt his mortality, it was his mother he called out for.

    In the Gulf War we all had pre-written letters to our families in our pocket. It was actually something the Vietnam guys taught use in the 1980's when they were training us. We passed that on in our training when training the young soldiers that were headed to Afghanistan with us. I wonder if it's still happening as I retired out of the military years ago.

    I had the pleasure of knowing men that served in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. All of them agreed that this movie was without a doubt as realistic as they come. One of the men I knew was a Pvt. in the Corps assigned to the West Virginia at Pearl Harbor. He was also involved in the action at Guadalcanal, Tarawa, and Guam at the end of the war. He stayed in and served all during Korea. My Uncle was a mortarman with the 4th division and went ashore on Utah Beach on June 6th.
    As I joined the Navy in 1978, I had instructors and supervisors that had served in Vietnam. Navy, Marine, and Army. My mentor had been in the Army and served with the Greenie Beanies there. MACVSOG.

      Those are MG rounds, you can tell by looking at the entrance wounds and how they have a defined circular shape. Coupled with an exit wound the size of an acorn, the kinetic energy from a high velocity 7.92/7.62 round would do that easily.

    SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP TO OPEN THE LANDING RAMPS OF THOSE BOATS RIGHT IN FRONT OF A MACHINE GUN NEST. Too much of that kind of thing happened in WW2, throwing men at machines guns and they just got sacrificed. The Pacific Islands saw sometimes 70% of our men get mowed down by the Japanese as they hit the beaches. These days we send in planes and helicopters first and take out the enemy as much as possible before sending men in to dangerous areas. Seems like in the wars up through Vietnam the top brass just didn't give a shit about the grunt soldiers. Extremely tragic, and utterly despicable by top brass.

      @@HaveYouSeenThisChannel hope you don't mind but I copied your reply and pasted it into Centane/Kamilla's discord... along with a link to your vid.
      I hope you're getting some thanks from the actual reactors... and not just their rabid fans like me..... I think you're doing them all a great service personally.
      kinda stole my idea btw but I was being lazy..... probably would've wound up in my basket full of million dollar ideas I'll never do....
      wish you all the best, sincerely..... oh hold off on any Shawshank comps ok? that's next up for Kamilla.. she did Misery today (not enough reactions to that tho)

      We're fine with sharing links; we need all the publicity we can get. Yes, some reactors thank us. The fewer the subscribers the reactor has, the more likely the reactor appreciates the mention. No Shawshank projects are currently on the list. One to-do item is showing how changing the end of Misery makes for a much better movie, but that project is low priority.

    The amount of people watching this scene and not shedding any tears is despicable. This scene is as close as any of us will get to the real thing in terms of having a fallen soldier die on our hands. Respect it by allowing yourself to feel it. Otherwise don't watch the movie, you know what you're getting yourselves into by watching. Respect it

      Just because you're not shedding tears doesn't mean they're disrespecting it. People process things in different ways. Not everyone is gonna be bawling their eyes out. Lay off them.

    • @jamesshilale2967
      @jamesshilale2967 Год назад +1

      @Christopher Garcia Sure I agree in terms of processing. But if you're high/drunk/talking through the scene you're disrespecting it. Spielberg didn't shoot this scene for shitz and gigs, he wanted the audience to experience it. To not experience it in its natural state is a crime against humanity. Experience it. Feel it. OR DON'T WATCH IT. PRETTY SIMPLE LOL

    • @jamesshilale2967
      @jamesshilale2967 Год назад +1

      @@timothyisidro4215Either experience it sober in its natural state or DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE. Spielberg didn't direct this for you idiots to just talk over the tough scenes. Any NORMAL, SOBER human being would shed a tear during that incredibly difficult scene. To not shed a tear would basically mean one is mentally high/drunk/drugged up. It is the EPITOME OF HUMAN SUFFERIING. You either cry or not. There is no other explanation. This scene DIFFERENTIATES who is human and who is drugged up/distracted.

    It was so pointless to push this position in this way when Jackson could have killed the gunner, then moved two fire teams in on the flanks of the nest

      uh.. no lol. you can keep your death cult. there's nothing noble or honourable about war.. and the warlords ya'll are loyal to, fund, and install via vote. The movies(Hollywood) make ya'll feel good about the human sacrifice, and the industry war serves. It's evil asf. Stop asking Mothers to sacrifice all her children to the cult of State. Mothers, stop giving your children away; take responsibility for their education, their upbringing. They'll respect you more when they're grown.

    This is one of the mistakes in the movie. As a medic Wade should not have been involved in the assault on the machine gun, much less armed. He should have been the one they held back.

    • @Georgejmh
      @Georgejmh 2 года назад +3

      100% correct. You do NOT take your ONLY medic into a dangerous place; he has to stay behind. What I do not understand, is that they had a sniper with them. All they had to do, was put a few men in a position to provide harassing fire at the MG nest, then their sniper could already be in a covered position, to pick off the MG crew, easily. NO PLANNING!
